What’s everyone top 5 games of all time
I am just curious about people’s taste here, since this community looks sane compared to other “loony-toons” gaming subs or forums online.
You don’t need to explain yourself just name them.
Thanks

Chrono Trigger
Outer Wilds
Subnautica
Deus Ex
Ocarina of Time
Mass Effect 2
Civilization IV
Fallout 3
Super Mario World
Monster Hunter Rise
Off the top of my head? Alan Wake 2, Max Payne 2, Silent Hill2, Mario Kart 64, and Assassin’s Creed Unity.
Some of them are nostalgia, some of them come from a genuine love and appreciation for the game
I love loads of games, old and new - I feel really bad that Uncharted, MGS, Alan Wake, Control, Death Stranding, and a load of other brilliant games aren't on that list, but I feel like those 5 are the ones that were most epoch-defining for me for the kind of games I love.
Resident Evil 4
Bayonetta
Bloodborne
Breathe Of The Wild
Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri
Half-life 2
Full Throttle
Day of the Tentacle
Broforce
Assassin's Creed 2
In no particular order, here's some games I absolutely adore, some of which absolutely have deep flaws.
Undertale
Gotcha Force
Dragon's Dogma
Kenshi
F-Zero GX
I feel like I'm deeply undercutting some loves, especially story driven games (such as the popular in this thread disco elysium) because I simply haven't poured dozens of hours of them individually and they don't spring to mind as easily. Devil May Cry 5, World War Z, Death Road to Canada, Mass Effect (yes, one), there are so many greats, and I want to enjoy them all. But when I think facorites, I end up thinking of games that let me go fast and explore a cool world
Minecraft
Half-Life 2 & Portal 2
Hollow Knight
Undertale & Deltarune (cant separate them)
Disco Elysium
Other good games: rimworld, silksong, stellaris, ori 1+2, little nightmares 2, tetris, factorio, openTTD, cubyz(potential minecraft 2?), plants vs zombies, slime rancher, postal 2, world of goo 1+2, KSP
The order would probably change each time I need to think of this:
Other ones up there:
I literally spent the entire night thinking about this lol. Don’t judge me but here we go. In no particular order:
Tales of Symphonia - boy does the discrimination critique feel more relevant than ever now lol
Dragon's Dogma
Final Fantasy 14
Guild Wars
TLoZ: Majora's Mask
In no particular order.
I'd say Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, Tales of Vesperia, Spyro, and the mainline FF's would be some honorable mentions.
Chrono trigger Ocarina of time Portal 2 Final fantasy 6 Kingdom hearts
Honorable mentions:
resident evil 4
Metroid prime
metal gear solid
god of war (ps2)
Pokemon crystal
Starcraft & Brood Wars
Riven
Dyson Sphere Program
The Outer Wilds
Stationeers
test test
Organized chronologically and with the system that I played them on listed:
honorable mentions:
Romancing SaGa: minstrels song
Super Mario World
Civilization ii
Lords of Magic
Left 4 Dead
Chrono trigger FF7 Red dead 2 Rocket league GTA 5
Lucky for me, I already had to make a top 25 when topsters lists went around earlier this year.
I can hardly believe it, but trimming this down to 5 now seems to be just as hard as building it up to 25 back then... uh, you pick 5?
Starcraft
Half Life
System Shock 2
FTL: Faster Than Light
Pavlov VR
Dwarf fortress
Valhiem
Factorio
Starsector
Half life 1+2
I don't have the mental capacity right now to put together a list, but one that I haven't seen listed that would definitely be in my top 5 would be Star Control 2.
The game has a lot of "really good...for its time" to it but it's still one of my favorites.
In the order I played them,
Metroid Prime, WoW, Subnautica, Satisfactory, Hollow Knight
Making this list was hard I went by games I'm mostly likely complete for the millionth time
I guess I'd point to some of the most formative games for me.
It's funny that most of those are Japanese games, but I still think of Source and all of Valve's work as being so key to me. I worked a lot with machinima tools, which were far more available in moddable games than anything Japanese.
Outer Wilds
UNBEATABLE
Portal 2
Rhythm Doctor
Peaks of Yore
Bloodborne
Portal 2
Age of Empires 2
Overcooked 2
Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen
There’s a lot of people with good taste in this thread. Will edit when I think of mine

Deus Ex HR
Fallout NV
Fallout 4
Deus Ex
(6. Deus Ex MD)
Mass Effect 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Starcraft: Brood War, Witcher 3, Natural Selection 2
Slightly different take, these are games that for one reason or another were pivotal moments in my life.
Final Fantasy / Final Fantasy II (IV) - NES & SNES
The OG X-Com - PC
Asherons Call - PC
Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim - PC
Guild Wars 2 - PC
Chronological order:

Elden Ring
Baldurs Gate 3
VtolVr
Borderlands 2 (based on when I played it years ago, it was peak as a middle schooler)
Beamng (once I got a wheel, it got bumped up)
Prob not super accurate, just the first 5 that come to mind.
Binding of Isaac
Minecraft
Civilization (series as a whole)
Grandia II (my FF7)
Super Mario Sunshine
Soma
Deus Ex
Hotline Miami
Fallout New Vegas
Outer Wilds
Edit: Since you guys liked it so much, lemme add 5 more. Its cheating but they really deserve the attention
Disco Elysium
Stanley Parable
The Talos Principle
Return of the Obra Dinn
Spec Ops: The Line
Dwarf Fortress
Elden Ring
Quake
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid 3
The Outer Wilds (obviously)
The Talos Principle
Dark Souls
Factorio
Dwarf Fortress (This last one is tough and I don't know if this is the right choice. The other four are correct.)
An honorable mention to Death Stranding. It isn't in my top games, but I think it deserves to be more influential. It takes the boring part of most games, which is traversal, and builds the entire game around it. It'd be higher if it didn't become so trivial by the end, but also designing your network that makes it trivial is part of the fun. More open world games should take more lessons from it and it'd solve some of the biggest issues of open world game: traversal just being a waste of time and boring.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Minecraft
Stardew Valley
Metal Gear Solid
Glad to see a lot of Chrono Trigger! Playing through that now and it is impressive for such an old title.
In no particular order:
Lemmings.
Wolfenstein.
Doom.

Unreal Tournament.
Quake
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars

Honorable mention: Baldur 3, Dwarf Fortress, Mario 3, Deus Ex, Day of the Tentacle

Honorable mention to old school WoW. It was the people I played with who made it great.
Half-Life 2
Minecraft
Mario 64
OG WoW
Final Fantasy VI (FF3 in NA, 1994, SNES)
Would be two lists for me. One for "best", as in they were great, gave me joy or strong emotional responses, but their replay value is not great:
"Best" as in can't get enough of it and would take to a remote island:
Terraria
Lost Kingdoms 2
Rengoku 2
Dark Souls 2
Underrail
I just realized I like sequel games and Underrail 2 is in the works and I know I'm getting it.
Team Fortress 2
Portal 2
Deus ex
Prey
Tony Hawk pro skater 2
Heroes of Might and Magic III
World of Warcraft vanilla (2005)
Europa Universalis IV
Path of Exile
Path of Exile 2
Ocarina of Time
Chrono Trigger
Smash Bros. Melee
Crash Bandicoot 2
Pokemon Red/Blue
EverQuest (PC)
Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)
GoldenEye 007 (N64)
Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Honorable mentions:
I couldn't do 5, so I did 7. The top 3 are solid, I think, in terms of games I thought about a lot while I wasn't playing them and couldn't wait to get back to. They constitute the best time I've had in games.
Then the next three were formative experiences, I think, but I haven't played them since they came out. They probably don't hold up, but that's okay because they were landmarks in the past.
And then Overcooked is exactly the kind of structured chaos I love in a multiplayer experience. I would never play it solo, but I have a lot of great memories playing it with friends. It was fun with my chaos friends that are just trying to make it through the level as best they can while things are on fire, but it also had enough meat that my process friends and I could optimize and figure out runs to "crack" the levels and get maximum orders through. Delightful.
Seems i am one of the ImSim-Minority here :-D
(stopped gaming for 10 years)
(Not in a specific order):
Super Metroid
Zelda Twilight Princess
Fallout New Vegas
Doom Eternal
Metroid Prime
Alien IsolationSonic SpinballFinal fantasy tactics
Bloodborne
System shock 2
Silent hill 2 (the original)
Metal gear solid 3 subsistance
I'm missing a metroidvania in there, which is my favorite genre, but i have played so many it is hard to pick 5.
Morrowind
project zomboid
Startcraft 2
stormgate (during the beta only)
factorio
Theres also a game called drift wars which is an rts made by literally 1 guy but we'll see where that goes.
The exact 1-5 order will vary based on mood, but here are my general top 5:
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Journey
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Spiritfarer
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Dark Souls
Super Smash Brothers: Melee
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Guitar Hero 3
Fallout: New Vegas
No particular order, also I'm grouping some of them together because no one can stop me:
Half Life series (yes, even Blue Shift)
Monster Hunter series (but mostly World)
Abiotic Factor
Prey 2017 and the Dishonored series
Fallout 1, 2, New Vegas, and kiiinda 4 (with some mods installed)
Honorable mentions: Songs of Conquest, Path of Exile 2, Neo Scavenger, Team Fortress 2, Dark Souls 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
Half life 2
Portal 2
Super Metroid
Witcher 3
Mario Kart 64
Uhh, that's hard... I guess I would say, in no particular order:
In no particular order
Chrono Trigger
Splatoon
Ocarina of Time
StarCraft Brood War
Dragon Age: Origins
Honorable mentions: Mario 3, mass effect (1 and/or 2), tales of graces, Diablo II, tetris
Battle for wesnoth
Divinity
Divinity 2
Witcher 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Super Mario RPG
Disco Elysium
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Sly Cooper and the Thevius Racoonus
Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
SMRPG is just an all around great game - second runner up being Chrono Trigger. 30ish hours for a full run, minimal filler.
Disco Elysium is just such an amazing game that I restarted it the second I beat it. I played. I cried. I tell everyone to play it.
MGSV isn't my favorite MGS story (that goes to 3) but the gameplay loop was satisfying and I just enjoyed playing it.
Sly just has a lot of nostalgia for me and it was overall my favorite game in the PS2 trilogy.
ALTTP is a similar combo of a great game with a lot of personal meaning to me. It's just one of those games I can mindlessly play but for some reason I've never got into randomizers for it.
osu!
Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005
Chrono Trigger
Trackmania2 (if i had to pick an env it'd be Valley, but all environments are cool)
Team Fortress 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - pick one
Rimworld
Dwarf Fortress
Space Station 13
The Witcher 3
None of these are in any particular order besides Terraria, which is easily #1. Aside from Portal 2, these are games I can play more or less endlessly. Replayability is very important to me.
In no specific order:
Mass effect 2
Skyrim
Civilization 5
Portal 2
The witcher 3
Satisfactory
Factorio
Subnautica
Slay the Spire
Mechabellum
Coincidentally I started playing my top three for the first time starting this year. Its been great finally playing these titles everyone else has been enjoying for years.
Pyre
Void Stranger
Warframe
Rimworld
F-Zero GX
Counter Strike 1.6
Dark Souls
Civilization 5
Slay the Spire
World of Warcraft before the first Addon
Off the top of my head really quickly. Ask me tomorrow and it might be five entirely different games.
Dune (boardgame reprint). Battle Star Galactica (boardgame with some of the expansions). Game of Thrones (boardgame). Civilization 5 (PC). Age of Empires 2 (PC, any version, DE is good).
I love the mind fucks in the boardgames; there are a lot of good PC games.
In no particular order
Shared 1st place: What Remains of Edith Finch & Kentucky Route Zero
3rd: Scarlet Hollow
4th: Life is Strange
5th: Baldur's Gate 3
Demons' Souls (PS3)
Tie Fighter
Outer Wilds
Master of Orion 2
Shenzhen I/O
I lost the ability to have top 5 games lists anymore. But I can list 5 games that meant everything to me, in the sense that they are kind of my favorite games of all time. But that does not mean they are the best games.
My experience goes back to the 80s, so choosing 5 would be mostly the impactful ones. These games mean a lot to me. I have deep connection to them through my youth, besides Overwatch, the only modern game in this list. I also played ton of fighting games with my local friends, and there are special games to me too (such as Dead or Alive 2, Garou: Mark of the Wolve), but that does not mean they are the best games of all time.
Skyrim.

Disco Elysium Outer Wilds Deus Ex Return of the Obra Dinn Heavens Vault
Honorable Mentions (no particular order): GTA: San Andreas, Star Ocean: The 2nd Story, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Chrono Cross, Street Fighter 6, Project Zomboid, Cyberpunk 2077, Cairn (very recent).
Factorio
Civilization 5
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Baldur's Gate 3
Forza Horizon 4
HM: Slay the Spire, Portal 2
Super Mario World (SNES)
Outer Wilds
League of Legends
The Last of Us
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Yoshis Island Silent Hill Shadow of the colossus Majoras Mask Outer Wilds
There are a lot of games I played a lot of times but maybe because I had no others and had a ton of time. Nowadays I would only replay Yoshis Island and Shadow of the colossus. I dont know if would replay SH but I played it a ton when young and it cemented my love for survival horror games. I only went through Majoras Mask once or twice, I was more of a Playstation kid than a Nintendo one. I recently played Outer Wilds and it was an awesome unexpected experience.
In no particular order
Incredibly difficult to limit it to five, ask me tomorrow and I'll probably come up with 5 others. Anyway
Xenogears
Wip3out 3
Cyberpunk 2077
EVE Online
Quake 3 Arena
Elden Ring
Sekiro
Dark Souls III
Oblivion
Hitman: World of Assassination
• Kingdom Come Deliverance I and II
• Red Dead Redemption 2
• Horizon Zero Dawn
• Ghost of Tsushima
• Crimson Desert
Well, it's always tough for me to pick something "best" for me. At least there's top 5, but it still feels too limiting to my weird braincells. So here's current top 5, thinking it could be different by tomorrow's taste.
Half life Alyx
Civilization 4
Mario Kart Double Dash
Mass Effect 1-2-3
Endless Space 2
Honnorable mention to Hollow Knight and Ori will of the wisps.
Tough to pick only 5… I'll try:
Doesn't feel right leaving Viewtiful Joe, Catherine, Hellsinker, and Under Night out, but I believe this top 5 accurately represents my taste: action games interspersed with fighting games and shmups, and an odd puzzle/rhythm game every now and then.
Blue Prince
Shadow of the Colossus
Kirby Super Star
Brave Fencer Musashi
Morrowind
botw
a short hike
elden ring
skate
silksong
honorable mentions:
animal well
inscryption
Ys VII: The Lacrimosa of Dana Fallout New Vegas MechWarrior 3 Rollercoaster Tycoon Battlezone II: Combat Commander
That's tough. Lot of choices. Are we filtering by "most impactful" or "most likely to replay" or something else? I'll go games that made a big impression on me. There's some boss towards older games.
Cyber punk 2077
Planescape tournament (original)
Witcher 3
Dyson sphere project
Half life Alyx
Now caveat my number 2 I never want to pay again, it was a time and a place (maybe same for Witcher) but one of my best gaming experiences. Other notables quake 2, unreal tournament, civ 4, factorio
Games I have enjoyed the most:
Games I currently feel the most fondness for:
Noita Ultrakill Doom eternal Animal well Helldivers 2
And just barely Primordialis No mans sky
Bioshock
Descent 2
Radix
Heretic
No man's sky
Bonus: Trog, wacky wheels, worms
It's a very difficult question to answer. Best of all time what? RPG's? Sandboxes? MMO's? They're not comparable at all. For example, I have SO MANY fucking hours in Rimworld, but I would never say it's a 'better' game than Disco Elysium, where my hours played are very limited indeed (it's not a game you play for weeks on end, of even replay very often). They're both good games, but I would still say Disco Elysium is a 'better' game, even though I would never pick it in a "you're only allowed to play 5 games for the rest of your life, which do you choose?'-situation.
So let's see, I guess any 5 of these would do (Mass Effect + 4 of these anyway)?
Mass Effect
Disco Elysium
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Path of Exile *
Deus Ex
Rimworld *
Terraria *
The Witcher
Baldur's Gate
Dishonored
Divinity Original Sin
No Man's Sky *
Slay the Spire *
Fallout New Vegas
And an honorable mention because I played it for over a decade in the past:
Ragnarok Online
Honestly, I've tried so many MMO's in the years since then trying to capture that feeling.. You all know what I'm talking about. THAT FEELING. Never found it again.
(The games with the * are the ones that I have the most hours in, not because they're the "best" games, but because they have the most replayability and no stories that can end. In a "pick 5 games for the rest of your life" situation those would be the ones I'd choose, I think. Or maybe I would trade one in for Mass Effect, because I can't have N7 Days otherwise. ;))
Ghost n Goblins (C64)
Super pipelines II (C64)
Giana sisters (C64)
Spy hunter (C64)
Diablo II (PC)
Elite Dangerous Conan Exiles S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Life Force Heroes of Might and Magic III
Silksong
Dead Cells or Hades.... Can't decide
Final Fantasy 10 (I'm expecting Expedition 33 to replace this as top RPG when I get round to making time to play it)
StarCraft 2
Control
Chess
We Love Katamari
Magic the Gathering (specifically Jumpstart)
Qwirkle Cubes
Hot Shots Golf Fore!
rock band 3
skyrim
hypnospace outlaw
telltales the walking dead season 1
madden 10
Honourable mentions to Super Mario Brothers 3, Infamous 2, Skyrim, Twilight Princess, BoTW, Call of Dutys 4-Black Ops 2, Battlefield 2,3,4 & V, and Bad Company 1 & 2, Sifu, Sekiro
Oh god there's so many, it's hard to pick from them all.
Honourable mentions: Super Mario Bros 3, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Shovel Knight, Nier Automata, Persona 4
You're all wrong, only correct answer is:
With Smash Melee and Hades II only just missing out.
That’s a tough one!
In no particular order;
Halo CE/2/3/Reach
KotOR
Diablo 2
StarCraft
Gran Turismo
Tetris - The "Citizen Kane of games" that everyone has been waiting for came out before we were taking games seriously. The recorded narrative that makes you feel is literally you getting apprehension, anger, grief, elation, and pure flow state oneness while you yourself play the game, and sort blocks into lines. This game is a slap in the face of anyone that thinks we need the trappings of film to be art.
Portal - Just such a novel game and mechanic, a clever and fun tone, everything fit together properly. Some days I'd change this out for Quake as the mirror of this.
Shadow of the Colossus - What a fucking game.
Dwarf Fortress -My "everything" game. I just want it to keep growing.
And I don't know about the fifth. I'll have to get back to you. Maybe Quake, maybe a GTA, maybe Minecraft. I just don't know.
/edit: Final Fantasy 6 - I'm not saying narrative is bad in my earlier explanation. I'm just saying it's not inherently the medium's strength. But this is great. And the community's mods ("romhacks") are just chef's kiss.
Disco Elysium Rimworld Cyberpunk 2077 Expedition 33 Dragon Age Origins
Obviously just videogames I've already played.
The Witcher 3, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Life is Strange, Zelda: BotW, GTA V
Donkey Kong Country, Legend of Zelda Link to the past, Oblivion, Witcher 3, Resident Evil 2
Oregon Trail, Solitaire, Blackjack, Duke Nukem 3D, and Quake 2 plus Castle Wolfenstein
Minecraft - It's Minecraft
Factorio - Best factory game on the market and one of the best-designed pieces of software of all time
Celeste - Most artistic game on this list and the skill ceiling basically doesn't exist
Team Fortress 2 - Still a contender for the best class-based shooter of all time, I love making loadouts and screwing around. Best shooter community I've experienced.
Not really sure what to put for my 5th. Some sort of puzzle game? A coop friend game? idk.
Space Station 14
Celeste
Portal 2
Splatoon Raiders
Breath of the Wild
Empire Deluxe
Diablo 1/2
Test Drive unlimited 2
GTA Online
Noita
Dark Souls

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Honorable mention for the entire Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Xeno- RPG franchises.
Witcher 3 Elden Ring Age of Empires 2: Conquerers Mass Effect 2 NFL QB Club
Honorable mention to Asheron’s Call. Not because it was a great game but because it was my first MMO and had all those addictive qualities that make people dump 1k+ hours into it and pay a subscription.
a generous top five:
Baldur's gate 3
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge
Team Fortress 2, when it came out
Mass Effect 2
Tactical Breach Wizards
Mark of the Ninja
honorable mentions:
Under a Killing Moon
Deus Ex
Diablo (the first one, and single player)
VtM Bloodlines
Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Perfect Dark
Baldurs Gate 3
Factorio
God of War (2018)
Red Dead Redemption 2

Honorable Mentions: Battlefield 1942, MOH:AA, Rome Total War, Tetris, Gran Turismo 4, Guitar Hero: Metallica

Slay the Spire
Honorable mentions: Ravenswatch, UFO 50, Baldur's Gate 3, Hades, Minecraft, Bastion, Rock Band, Fire Emblem: the Blazing Blade, Spider-Man 2 (PS5), LoZ: Majora's Mask, Bubble Bobble
this type of question is too hard.. i wish people would at least limit these questions to a specific platform.
Ugh.. in no particular order
I guess, maybe. trying to compress 40+ years of games down to a top five is to goddamn hard.
Half Life 2 (+ deathmatch, episodes, and Alyx all viewed as one piece), Sonic and knuckles (plus 2 & 3), Mario 3, dead by daylight.
I am a very prolific gamer, and this is tough to say because on the one hand, I do highly rank gameplay focused and short but sweet titles. But at the same time, it would feel very odd ranking something as top 5 that hasn't personally moved me in some way, which is usually due to the plot and characters, or a game that's like 2 hours long. Games are usually ranked by me on terms of what it is trying to do, and I value uniqueness, not homogeneity. That being said, just to answer the question, I'm thinking something like this:
Planescape - Torment
Metroid Prime
Persona 5 Royal
Sekiro -Shadows Die Twice
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Super Mario World Final Fantasy 7 Minecraft GTA San Andreas Katamari Damacy
Honorable mentions: Resident Evil 7, Doom Eternal, Duke Nukem 3D, Left 4 Dead 2, Helbreath, Super Mario World, Sniper Elite 4.
(It’s impossible to limit to 5, so here’s 5 more)
Wing Commander
Baldur's Gate 2
Mass Effect 3 with Citadel DLC
Knights of the Old Republic
X-COM
Half Life, Doom, Quake, Warcraft, Age Of Empires.
Honorable Mentions: Diablo 2, Destiny, Skyrim, Gran Turismo 4, Red Dead 2, Tetris, & Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Not in order:
Sim City 4
Mario Kart 64
Smb3
Little Big Planet
Fallout 4
Duke Nukem 3D should be on this list, but I'm unwilling to bump any of the others off.
Edit: how'd I forget Tetris (NES)?! Put that on the top five and bump Fallout 4 to an honorable mention.
Runescape, halo 3, minecraft, call of duty 4, red alert 2
Borderlands
Hollow Knight
Outer Wilds
Path of Exile
Factorio
Death Stranding 1 & 2
Derail Valley
Train Sim World
No Mans Sky
I might be getting old, but games that live in that happy place between chill and adventure really speak to me these days.
Edit: My line breaks disappeared. Did this suddenly become Reddit?
Man, looking at my own history is a total trip. It’s basically just an entire life dedicated to MOBAs and RTS games... Guild Wars, HotS, Dota 2, League, StarCraft II. That’s pretty much the whole vibe. And honestly? If there isn't some insane level of micro-management or a high skill ceiling involved, I'm barely even touching it.
No particular order:
Vampires: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu)
Ultima Online
Disco Elysium
Gizmos and Gadgets
Ultima, SWG, and Gizmos and Gadgets were more about the memories of playing them with friends/family.
SWG still has some unique mechanics that I still view as the high tide of major publishers willing to take risks on complexity. Game was probably too ambitious for its own good.
Vampires had a high level of jank even years after release, but boy did they nail the ambiance/music/open approach to quests for the time. Shame about the sequel.
Pokémon Blue
Max Payne 2
Subnautica
Stardew Valley
Dark Souls
Mario Galaxy
Celeste
Smash Ultimate
Minecraft
Geometry Dash
never been much into those heavily story driven games lol
Not sure I have “favorites” but measuring by impact on me:
RuneScape
Final Fantasy 7 (original)
Rust
Oblivion
Stardew Valley
Doom 1/2 Dark Souls Super Mario World Half Life 2 and all episodes Sonic 3 + Sonic and Knuckles
Doom 2016 and Animal Well honorable mentions
Sekiro.
I'd have to think a lot to come up with the rest...
Maybe Super Mario World is on there.
Nightreign
Elden ring
Demons souls
Silent hill 2
Baldurs gate 3
Police Quest 1
Gabriel Knight: The Sins of the Fathers
Animal Crossing (GC)
Super Mario RPG
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
Okay look, I know a lot of people don't like AC: Odyssey. But it was the first AC game I played and the whole thing just clicked for me. It's a pure sit back and wander experience for me.
Super Metroid
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight
Control
Dead Cells
Left 4 Dead 2
Warframe
Team Fortress 2
Rocket League
Witcher 3
Age of Empires 2 (Age of Kings & Conquerers), NFS MW-2005, GTA Series (Liberty City, Vice City), Crysis 3, & Assassins Creed 2 Ezio-Trilogy.
Top 5 is cutting too short. There are so many timeless games that didn't make the list.
Planescape Torment
Fallout 2
MGS 2 and 3
Dark Souls
BG3 Planescape: Torment & Disco Elysium (gotta group em) Dark Souls 2 The Witcher 2 The Long Dark

Final Fantasy (NES) - this game got me into party-based, turn-based role-playing games and that turned into a lifelong love of Dungeons and Dragons.
