Fun Fish Rules Until Moral Improves
Many people know of the Portuguese man o' war. But did you know that it is not a jellyfish? Its not even one single animal (debatable)! Its a siphonophore and it is a colony of tiny specialized zooids that form the whole thing. Theres even one siphonophore species that can grow longer than a blue whale.
Man o' wars reproduce both sexuall and asexually. Not at different times, but to form one whole man o' war. They spread eggs and sperm in the water and when they meet one larvae will be birthed and from that larvae, it will bud asexually to create more zooids to complete itself.
Also they can be found in groups as large as 1,000! Sounds scary.

Yay, funny little slender boi time. The electric eel is actually more closely related to catfish than eels. There are even electric catfish. Electric eels can also output 800v. Does anybody else eant to try licking one like a battery? It has three special organs for creating these electric charges that take up 80% of its body.
They are also obligate air breathers! They must surface to breathe roughly every 10 minutes. They mainly live in poorly oxygenated waters, so this makes sense.
Thats all for these cuties see you with another fish fact soon~
Bobbit Rule
This little iridescent worm boi is believed to be named after the case where Mrs. Bobbitt chopped off her husbands penis. The reasoning for this is that the bobbit worm is an ambush predator with very sharp pincers that have the ability to cut a fish in half if they get too close. Usually found in coral reefs in the Atlantic. They can even grow up to 3meters long. It is not stroctly a carnivor though, as it will eat algae and decomposing matter that floats into its trap.

Cephalopod 2: electric boogaloo. By great demand I bring another cephalopod. This time, octopus! One of my favorite creatures, period. These little ones are incredibly intelligent; I actually stopped eating them because of this, even though takoyaki is delicious. Theres a famous octopus, Otto, who has been known to shoot water at lights to turn them off, juggle hermit crabs, and rearrange his tank to his liking.
I firmly believe theyre only held back by two things: one is being very solitary, with most species living in their own den their whole lives. However, they can be social and communicate with others by changing colors on their skin. There was even a documentary I watched where someone swam to the same octopus every day, and even though Im sure it was dramatized and cherry picked, there seemed to be real trust built between them. The other is their incredibly short life spans with most living only 1-1.5 years. Partly this is because when females give birth, they will neglect themselves, protecting the eggs until they hatch and perishing soon after.

Hello fish friends! Today is the vampire squid a real cutie! Named after its distinct color and appearance, it is the only living cephalopod that is a scavenger. It also has the largest eyes proportional to its body in the animal kingdom. It lives 2-3000feet deep so unfortunately seeing these beauties in person isnt easy. They also cant change colors like other cephalopods or shoot out ink, because both would be pointless in the darkness of that depth. Instead, when threatened, they shoot out a bioluminescent mucus. As cool as this is, I dont want to be sneezed on by a squid.

Manta ray! Rays are majestic, and manta rays are one of the most well known. But did you know that they have a mutalistic relationship with remora? Those fish you see hanging onto it in the pic are them. Remora clean the manta ray in exchange for protection, transport (they have a sucking disk at the top of their heads to attach, and this can leave scars!) and they get to feed on the scraps the mnta ray leaves behind.

New friday, new fish. Goldfish! Piggybacking off my last post where I had some advice, I want to talk about goldfish and how mistreated they are.
Again, these fish need space! Please give it to them. The minimum I've seen recommended for even small "fancy goldfish," is 25 gallons. With 10 more gallons for each goldfish you add. Goldfish can live for 15+ years, yet so many people think theyre ahort lived fish and that probably has a lot to do with people putting them in tiny tanks!
Speaking of misinformation about goldfish, another one that upsets me is the all too common "memory of a goldfish" line. Goldfish can remember things for months, can learn to navigate puzzles/mazes, and can not only recognize and remember other goldfish but their owners too!
Goldfish are lovely pets please treat them with the respect and love they deserve!

Its beta fish day! These fish are very pretty, but did you know that it is the males that have all of this plumage? The females look much less pretty (still cute though!)
But today I wanted to talk about owning and care for these fish. The fish like the one in the picture are selectively bred for the bright colors and flowing fina and its actually a hinderence and health detriment to these fish. Think of the dogs that are bred with health issues.
Theyre also very territorial, so you should only keep one male at a time, and if you want females in the same tank, make aure to have multiple as a male can stress one female to death with its mating. Also, please, do not put it in a tiny fishbowl. Beta actually need a good amount of room, like 10+ gallons!

Coelacanth! I like this picture because it makes it look goofy. Coelacanths were thoguht to be extinct because the youngest fossil we had of one was 66 million years old, but in 1938 off the coast of South Africa, one was caught and identified.
