Andrew Tate is ’too smart to read’ and says books are for ‘slow brains’

Self-professed misogynist influencer Andrew Tate believes reading is for people with “slow brains,” according to a recent resurfaced clip of him on X. In the video, Tate is seen bragging that his brain is too advanced for reading and that he’d rather be in constant chaos.

“I’m too smart to read. I know you’re sitting there going ‘smart people read’... no. I need action. I need constant chaos in my life to feel content. I need to be driving a supercar and f—ing fighting, f—ing a bunch of hoes and champagne… going crazy.”

Functionally illiterate moron, sex trafficker and rapist insists he's "Too smart to read."

What does it say about the society that he is so much better off than me?

4
mander.xyz

21% of the U.S. is illiterate, with 54% topping out at a 6th grade reading level. Meaning 75% of the U.S. reads at a middle school level, at best... So this clown trying to convince people he's in the 25% of folks able to read above a 6th grade level is legitimately hilarious!

43
gruereply

And this grifting fuck knows that, because that 75% is exactly who he is trying to tap into by appealing to their ignorance.

24

Keep in mind that these people vote for reality show actors - we are screwed.

21% of the US adults or are children included in that? I'd love to see where you're getting these stats too.

9
mander.xyz

That's just for adults, for children the data ranks the States against one another rather than giving an average illiteracy percentage like with adults. Here's a top tier link on the topic: https://www.thinkimpact.com/literacy-statistics

Original source: https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/do-adults-have-the-skills-they-need-to-thrive-in-a-changing-world_b263dc5d-en/full-report.html

Another review of the source material for good measure: https://www.crossrivertherapy.com/research/literacy-statistics

25

It's all just blue. Terrible color choice to demonstrate any sort of regional differences. It looks like the USA is covered in denim.

3
lemmy.world

54% topping out at a 6th grade reading level.

I've seen this stat floated a thousand times, from the same single source.

I've yet to have anyone lay out what 8th grade reading level statement 54% of the population can't understand.

Prose literacy: Can you read a newspaper article and understand the main points?

Document literacy: Can you fill out a job application or interpret a map?

Quantitative literacy: Can you balance a checkbook or understand a chart with multiple data points?

Someone reading at a 6th-grade level can handle most day-to-day reading tasks. They can read their prescription bottles, follow basic instructions, and understand straightforward news articles.

What they struggle with is synthesizing complex information from multiple sources, drawing inferences from technical documents, or navigating websites with multiple layers of information.

28

It’s worth noting that the editorial standards set for most news outlets are at the 6th grade reading level.

Any higher and news outlets start to severely limit their potential audience.

10

Checking out readability formulas, like the Flesch‑Kincaid grade level formula, should help to clear things up a bit. But in general, a 6th grade reading level is where concrete language, moderate sentence length, and single step reasoning all align. Adding abstract vocab, multiple embedded clauses, or deep cultural references push text above a 6th grade level.

MIddle school level is a very generous on the current generation in grade school. MATH is equally as bad english, 9-10th grade level at best as a hs graduate. alot of the problems with english and math in k-12 it is never enforced to learn, they expect you to know those skills at those level some how when you reach particular grade.

1
karashtareply
piefed.social

I don't use algebra, calculus etc. in my daily life, but I sure speak and read English every single day regardless of what I am doing.

Not sure why you'd expect everyone to know high level math when we don't use it.

1
karashtareply

I was listing types of math I was forced to learn that I never really use

-1

It's quite handy... When you have a need for it. Which I do not in my daily life.

I'm not an anti-math Luddite or something. I just don't often have a need to solve for an unknown term in a math problem in my life in the day to day.

Just because my life doesn't require it every day doesn't mean I wouldn't know when to use it.

29

I disagree. These people are notoriously thin-skinned. Mocking works even better than silence.

If he were 5 years old I'd just smile and nod, but an adult making these claims deserves nothing less than open ridicule.

12
lemmy.world

I think mocking might work for some people, but there certainly seem to be a ton of people running around with absolutely no shame. These people can't be fought with mockery because they'll just use it to boost their userbase. This is how we've ended up in this weird cult of personality environment.

IDK the best way to distinguish between the mockable and the unmockable, but it'd be nice to have a method.

11

Andrew Tate once sent a picture of his car to Greta Thunberg bragging about how much pollution it spits out. She replied with a simple "small dick energy", that had him immediately firing back with a video. A video containing a local pizzeria delivery box that the local authorities used to track him down and arrest him for sex trafficking.

Andrew Tate is mockable and it gets results.

11

Everything I know about him is against my will. Years ago on reddit and now on lemmy someone always posts about him for some reason.

Agreed. I will never understand how these people got famous. I do understand that they are manipulative and all that, but still... For manipulative people to be successful, one needs to be manipulated. I think this says more about the manipulated (and society overall) than it does about these manipulative, stupid, pieces of shit.

We will always have unscrupulous pieces of shit. The fact that society is choosing to make these people famous, and "powerful", is dystopian. Absolutely pathetic.

15

You can report on the damage a trash person does without writing “trash person says…”. At some point, “X says Y” became a news trope and its godawefull.

Why are we paying attention to this clown, again?

49

Because he keeps being enough of an embarrassing idiot in public to write roast articles about that can attract people's attention, I guess

3
lemmy.world

All of his examples of his "intelligence" have nothing to do with brain power:

Driving a supercar.

Fighting (and losing badly).

Fucking hoes and champagne (think he might be fucking his drinks?.. grammar is for idiots apparently).

Going crazy...?

Dude is a true genius, and all the hits to the head have only made him more powerful.

I need action. I need constant chaos in my life to feel content.

This is the sound of deep, deep, profound, deep insecurity chasing a man down a never-ending alleyway peppered with neon signs that say "Unattractive to Women?", "Easily Bullied By Other Men?", "GAY???"

I hope he does serious prison time for his crimes, because it will be extra enjoyable knowing that it's literally the worst place he could ever find himself. No escaping one's own mind in that place.

Oh if he goes to prison he's going to get it. The guards will be taking bets on how long he lasts.

8

He has money and political connections, he will get let off easy, and if a prison sentence at all will get VIP treatment, not the least in Eastern Europe.

3

Yeah, that quoted statement definitly sounds like a massive cope for a profound feeling of emptiness and/or inedequacy.

4
lemmy.world

Dear Andrew. You need to fill your head with stuff cause you're unable to sit in the silence of your own mind since it's shouting what an utter failure you are at being a decent person. You've hurt so many people, and deep down you know that ain't right. It's called cognitive dissonance. I want to hope you can become a whole person someday, but frankly you don't deserve that. Honestly I can't see you as anything other than a drain on society.

Loved your response. Simple, logical, thoughtful and beautiful.

"I'm to smart to use my brain" says guy who is on the run from eastern european authorities.

25

Make friends with your IT guy, devise a plan to block the correct web domains for the 2 hours ahead of any company meeting to let that problem sort itself out.

15
lemmy.dbzer0.com

People bragging about how super smart they are usually lower the population average significantly.

14

These people are just shameless manipulators of the stupid, which is the only form of intelligence our society really respects right now.

Ie, elon musk is a genius, why? Not for doing anything real, but for hyping the value of his stocks beyond any semblance of reason. The president, all the rw influencers, business dickheads, the quality they have that is valued is playing the population, no one cares if it's true, they care if they get enough people to believe it and therefore make money off of it.

Meanwhile people that actually invent stuff, that actually figure stuff out, aren't even celebrated, they are a cog in a machine under one of these confidence men, their contributions attributed to the Musks of the world. Nikola Tesla would not be respected if he was around today, just used and abused by these manipulators that would take all the credit.

That would be the same Andrew Tate who made his money getting punched and kicked in the head, right?

I'm sure his brain is doing just fine.

14

no, this is the Andrew Tate who made his money doing human trafficking and crypto scams. He might have made some startup capital from getting brain damage but his money came from being a piece of shit.

19

How many times has Andrew Tate been kicked in the head during his career? More than he can count to, I'm guessing.

12

He’s a media producer, and he ain’t producing books. Of course he’s going to tell his audience books don’t matter.

Stop making stupid people famous.

9

Projection as usual with this putz. Books remind him of how slowly his brain works, so he assumes that is everyone's experience with them.

9

"I'm too smart to read. I need all this dumb, mindless shit to keep my smort brain active."

What

8

I am dyslexic and read slow, even still I can gain information faster from text better than other media like videos.

6

Hey fucknut, the Russian Infantry is looking for volunteers for frontline duty. Don't worry, the European NATO members will provide plenty of tungsten for the action you seek.

6

I downvoted, not against you OP, but against letting this shit stain monopolize people "slow brains".

5

Tangentially, I love it when stupid people mention how much of their brain they use. They mean they use 100% of their brains as a powerhouse when, in reality, that implies a seizure. It makes me chuckle every time.

5

Pretty sure he needs opposite of "fucking fighting" after his last loss.

Also does he know textbooks exist?

Tell that to the snowflakes here that are oh-so-upset this was even posted.

The only difference between Maga morons and of some liberal snowflakes here is what they find triggering.

I mean one side has literal Nazis, is building detention facilities while sending a poorly militia into cities to arrest and attempt to disappear people without any charges, the other side just wants a half-assed European social democracy (because you know the Democratic party is currently captured and unwilling to make any meaningful change that isn't incremental and trivial to reverse)

4

To Andrew Tate I recommend a lobotomy to increase his intelligence

5

We really have to let this turn decompose in prison. Why do we keep smelling this? Ahh right, that's the only reason for this shit to exist...

I don't see a correlation between reading book and misinformation.

The reality is, these people often aware of what is going on, and they actively choose to adapt extreme views, because they know what their fans base want to hear. Making them rich.

Their view of the world is simple, the goal justify the means.

1

I believe these clowns actually believe their own bullshit. Whole heartedly. There is no mask off moment. They are fully deluded.

1
Nexytereply

ADHD doesnt make you say something that stupid.

26

ADHD does track with thriving in chaos. I know that my own attention span sometimes doesn't stick long enough to read a book.

I tend to consider it a detriment to myself, because it's at odds with what I wish I could do. I know that others have come to better terms with it. To Tate, however, anything and everything about him has to be another indicator of his supremacy. The logic goes like this:

1: I'm unable to keep my attention on books.
2: Everything that I am is great.
Ergo: My inability to stick with books is a good thing.
Inverse: Reading books is a bad thing.
Ergo: Books are stupid and I'm just too smart.

The error lies in the second premise being universal. Whether he might have some great things or none at all is irrelevant here, but I'm sure we all agree that not everything is great. If you turned that premise into a particular "Some things that I am are great" (again, veracity is irrelevant to my point), the syllogism would no longer work and the conclusion would be invalid.

So all in all, he might have ADHD, but that doesn't make him less of an arrogant waste of space.
