Not to speak for them, but my understanding is they abhor all calls to violence..... And paradoxically, supporting Palestinian freedom is maybe a call to violence?
I don't want to make claims that don't exist, but that's how I could explain them blocking statements like this.
Wasn't Admiral Patrick one of the devs that got caught upvoting all the Zionist propoganda posts like a year and a half ago? I wished I saved that thread. None of the most egregious Zionists accounts are on the ban list even though they are very abrasive and political extremists. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest was just a cover for that.
Using the word Zionist or the Epstein Class hides your comment :/ and I swear every account that's critical of Israel is on that list.
I feel like one of the things he said was that he blacklisted people who "regularly post things normal people don't want to see" (or something along those lines). I assumed that was a blanket statement to cover Violet and anyone else whose posts have made him feel uncomfortable.
I don't get it. Is this some personal vendetta the dev has? Have they really been in this many internet arguments? Where did this list come about and why?
It's pretty long and includes some insightful details about implementation (making the blocklist's usage at the discretion of the instance admin though not transparent of its contents and defaulting it to enabled) but this quote boils down the underlying sentiment pretty well:
“These are all rough edges of the threadiverse which I am attempting to round off so we might actually be able to retain some level headed people instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel by being a dumping ground for people rejected by civil society."
When you examine the list, by and large, it's pretty reasonable. Lots of false news, state propaganda, spammers, etc. But also the entire lemmy.blahaj.zone instance (where many of lemmy's trans denizens call home). We're included in what the lead developer describes as "bottom of the barrel" "people rejected by civil society."
Though I do fear the backlash. You've got a bunch of malicious spammers, hate-mongers and blackhat state actors who now have an open window to cause a lot of harm (harassment & general sowing of discontent) with the convenient smoke screen of upset trans folks who it can be blamed on.
You're assuming his apologia is not disingenuous. The notes he added in the commit messages and the extent to which he blocked users who were indirectly implicated in his accusations don't line up with his explanations.
There's also the fact that much of it is caught under a very broad net of "promoting violence" without any examples provided of what constitutes such a thing. He used that exact explanation to justify banning blahaj.zone, where he said that some users did so and the admins did not act on it, which prompted him to blacklist the entire instance and the admins specifically.
This isn't even getting into the intentional inaccuracies about the nature of his "Toxic Mode", or his entire rant on db0 which is not only dishonest and weirdly personal, but also straight up lying about what happened and why. There's zero way to say that exposing his blacklist is "going Karen" like he did, and it's a straight lie to say that nobody had a problem with his blacklisting until db0 complained when the situation is that db0 made the existence of the blocklist known.
The philosophy of federation is that such whims should be openly handled on the federation level, not in a secret blacklist of a front end that was openly available to all.
All of this shit falls flat when the dev themself admits they hid the feature to disable deep in the app and even called it "toxic mode". Is saying "perchance" toxic? Because that's one of their blocked phrases. Fuck no, it's not. This is just shit the personally dislike and put it in under the guise of making the fediverse more normie friendly.
As if silently hiding content with phrases like "perchance" and causing a massive drama makes the fediverse more normie friendly.
also, I have to call him not just a dumbass but a malicious dumbass.
"Someone leaked the list. Why am I on it??"
A: The list was never hidden just not advertised (lest people game it). I also could have encrypted it, but I merely compressed it for efficiency. If you're on the list, then one of the 10 reasons above applies.
the file in question was placed obscurely. updated without directly calling out what it was. and published without notifying users.
seems a lot of effort went into obfuscating the true purpose of the file.
while on the subject of obfuscation. he claimed he "compressed it for efficiency".
he compressed it, then base64 encoded it. why? why compress it to only expand the size of the file by encoding it??
@[email protected] is a dumbass and a shitty dev if he thinks any of the bullshit he said was worth the time it took to say it.
Really? I'm malicious spammer, hate-monger or blackhat state actor? News to me, but good to know.
Though I do fear the backlash. You’ve got a bunch of malicious spammers, hate-mongers and blackhat state actors who now have an open window to cause a lot of harm (harassment & general sowing of discontent) with the convenient smoke screen of upset trans folks who it can be blamed on.
I know, I think it's funny. But someone has to call out the guy who's agreeing with Admiral Patrick and always seems to have a space/star trek themed name. Either an excellent shit poster that I get to set up, or it's one of their buddies/alts.
It seems they want to silence any kind of hate speech, so I guess some hateful leftists or aggressive trans people (as few as there may be) felt discriminated.
Hate speech is speech encouraging/justifying violence based on inherent characteristics, such as race, gender, sexuality, etc, not just speech you hated lmao.
They posted an explanation in the tesseract community, but it boils down to they want the fediverse to succeed and replace reddit, but there is a contingent of toxic users that they feel is hindering that goal so they precompiled a list for new instance admins.
It's fully optional and can easily be disabled in the UI
The author offers a lengthy explanation in their own words as to precisely why this was done. TLDR: people are free to stop using it, but he's making these changes because he wants to offer this service on behalf of those who don't enjoy all the toxicity here.
Lmfao. I didn't make it more than a few paragraphs because it's written with the maturity of a 10 year old in a chocolate sausage museum.
You can really tell they're up for an honest and open conversation with the community, really trying to improve the Fediverse, with their locking of all comments.
He's clearly the toxic one and is projecting his issues onto hundreds of others.
people are not "free to stop using it" if the instance admin is using it.
honestly I don't even give a fuck about me being on "the list" anymore. I'm more upset that he decided for hundreds if not thousands of users without consulting them or taking into consideration of their opinions.
he took the choice away from them, and that's kind of the problem with tech anymore.
@[email protected] is a scammy piece of shit that got caught and is attempting to do damage control now.
don't his users and his users users deserve transparency?
I mean, to be fair, here is that entire paragraph for context:
As will be explained further, there are 10 rules that are enforced, the biggest one being a very basic “don’t be a violent extremist”. That’s probably 30% of the list. Another 50% are just alts of Dwazou (persistent, long-term ban evader), and the remaining 20% just garden-variety spammers and toxic people who scare the normies away.
Based on this, it is much more likely that you are an alt of Dwazou. (Or maybe I am? 🤪 Statistically, between the three of us, you me and the author, ONE of us must be!!)
Eh, I guess my opinion is somewhat colored by seeing some of the things they decided to block. Like "perchance" stood out. None of that specific information was in this post.
Yeah it's not for me either, but I also believe that people have a right to not have other's speech or behavior forced upon them, which is kind of exactly what ActivityPub was created to facilitate and what separates it from corporate platforms.
THAT list is able to be disabled, though people are mad about its discoverability and transparency.
The OTHER list, the smaller instance-level one, reportedly cannot be disabled, seemingly the only recourse for those instances on it are to use his fork of the code.
This is from db0's reporting, I have not attempted to confirm personally, but I would be happy to be corrected if need be.
At this point they should just have a whitelist, that's a hell of a list! There's some users I recognise from my instance who are chill so I can't imagine how they ended up on this list.
I'm not on the list, and have been thinking if they want to curate their instance/app whatever it was that's their right.
But "Jessi?e Welle?s" is on the list? I get he's political, but if you don't like what he's saying I think I'd rather associate with the people on the list because if they're being put next to Jessie they're probably good people.
I'm not an alt of dwazou, or a spammer so guess that just leaves violent extremist.
To the fascist nazi scumbag, “violent extremist” means anyone that opposes genocide, anyone that has espoused consequences for murder, torture, and oppression, or anyone that has ever made fun of Charlie “Goebbels” Kirk.
Honestly, incels have a greater need than normies for a space on the internet where they can be as toxic as they like. On account of nobody willing to listen to them irl... 🤣
And Twitch (where "sadge" derives from, according to my Google-fu), and Tiktok, and Instagram, and don't forget Lemmy, and... but the thing is, when you've been banned from ALL of those, where else do you go next, other than a free instance with an open sign-up policy? 🤪
In all seriousness: how did they think it was a good idea to create a blacklist when a sizable chunk of the Fediverse is so against external interference in general? Did they not see this coming?
the question mark only means the first emoji is optional. If you explicitly add it the RegExp unfortunately doesn't match it anymore and you will forever be a rightist or whatever
I'm still trying to understand what the hell Tessaract is..
I've only moved over Lemmy in the last two weeks.
Before I was banned on Reddit there was also something everyone was angry about different reddit apps.
I've never understood any of this.. I just want to talk to people, read silly shit and annoy everyone.
It's basically just a front end. Like a stylesheet. It should do nothing but display the existing data in certain ways.
At least that's what they're supposed to be. This person decided to force their own views on everyone who uses it without disclosing that it's doing that.
Thank you for the link, I was seeing this wave of tesseract posts and I kept thinking "wtf why so many ppl are interacting with OCR stuff.. I get Lemmy is nerdy but wth??"
Bro reddit banned me too. I just decided I'm done this time, not gonna bother creating a new account this time. They can sit there and circlejerk , I'm finally on a good lemmy app and there are no ads.
Have you checked the Dubvee ban logs? You might have been banned there years ago with even knowing it. Without even having known that instance existed.
If that will make you feel any better. Happened to me. Through some weird automated ban sync process. Now I’ve learned the Dubvee admin is the tesseract dev who did all this, I didn’t even bother checking if I’m on the list. I’m feeling pretty hipster about all this.
Tesseract was a frontend for lemmy. Think of lemmy posts as emails, and the front end as your email client like outlook/gmail/etc. Normally you would expect your email client to show you your emails. But tesseract basically implemented a shadow ban list on users, communities, and phrases. And all of this was invisible to the server admins who hosted the tesseract frontend for their users. If you were banned by tesseract then people using that front ends just wouldn't see your post's, but you wouldn't show as banned in the tesseract UI. In the email example this is the equivalent of your gmail seeing you said "fuck ice" a year ago and now it'll let you send emails but not actually deliver them for people to read. But it wasn't just "fuck ice" it was a whole bunch of things like criticizing moderators, left and right wing ideas. And GirlsFrontline (anime style game) was banned but not porn. Just weird. And it did all of this by loading the ban list as obfuscated code at runtime so just zero transparency all around.
If someone wanted to make a less extreme lemmy then they could be open about their front end goals and not try to hide it like a punk ass bitch
I still wonder what it is I said/posted that did it. Was it the Luigi pictures? The guillotine images? Or my relentless disdain for all things Microslop?
Why not force them to kill and eat eachother slowly over the course of a year or two? Every time around lunch, just toss a stick in the pit and let them sort it out.
We would supply food ourselves, of course, but that's socialism. They should feel at home in a competitive environment.
I never watched more than a few episodes of Frasier, but I remember a commercial for an episode of it - one I unsuccessfully tried to find online just now. I shall paraphrase:
Niles(?): "What perfume is that?"
Unknown woman: "It's 'Obsession.'"
Niles: "No, it's not, I was just curious, really."
I still haven't seen the movie, but I've seen a synopsis of the movie.
I am so disappointed.
But I'm hopeful.
Because what I really want to see is part two of this movie where a random group of like a hundred people get one and they know it will grant one wish and what wishes they make and what the consequences of a hundred random people across the world having a single wish granted all at the same time or within like the same few weeks.
Mothers grieving over their dead children who wished to be able to fly, but never thought about landing.
Competition from 10 or 15 people who wish to be the richest person in the world one after the other and having their wish granted only to be killed a day later by the next person who wishes to be the richest person in the world and having all of their riches transferred to that person.
People wishing for magic and being haunted by demons.
People wishing that their lost loved ones would come back to life and having the undead rise.
There is so much potential in this concept if I just hope somebody has the balls to actually reach out and go for it because it would be such a good movie.
I still haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve seen a synopsis of the movie.
So, I feel like they leaned a bit hard on jump-scares to deliver the horror element. But the Wishing Willow is really just a vehicle for the plot, it's not important to the plot. The story is about male loneliness and youthful impatience and not being able to see past your own unhappiness to recognize the importance of other people.
And it's also about Inde Navarrette hitting it out of the fucking park with her acting.
Don't get hung up on the magical realism of the MacGuffin that kicks off the movie's 2nd Act. If you enjoy a good popcorn horror/thriller and don't mind liberal use of gross-out material, it's a stellar film.
I think most of the people on the blocklist are not people I want to talk to. But you can fuck off if you're going to put that shit in a public client. Let people manage what they want to see by themselves.
The instances, according to his rambling post, were blocked because of admin stances on violence. I'm sure you've seen violent posts on Lemmy calling for people to be Luigid or whatever.
Similar to my stance on individuals, I think that stuff crosses a line and needs to be removed from the fediverse, but again it's not the place of a front-end developer to enforce that, especially not by muting the entire instance.
I think if he's right about instance admins, there's an argument to use the existing mechanism (defederation) which won't make me very popular, but hopefully clarifies where I stand.
I recognized a few names on there as brain dead trolls or politically extreme zealots. I'm sure some are fine and maybe just got on the devs nerves for something petty or isolated, but either way you're right, let people manage their shit. Tired of people thinking they can nanny everyone else or tell others what to do or think or feel.
Edit:just to add, I also know one person on the list outside of Lemmy comments and they are a great person. They probably had one angry comment and the Dev took exception to that.
Sometimes you are just going to piss people off no matter what. Shit lemmy grew as the 2024 election in the U.S. grew. If users from the U.S. weren't bitching about politics or calling others names... Then we probably deserve the current state
The first person I looked up had an extremely inflammatory slogan as their cover picture. The sentiment was anti-israel, so I expect most people here, including myself, at least broadly (possibly wholeheartedly) agree with his general stance, but I think such slogans are wrong and unhelpful so... yeah.
You can check it out from your own instance by going to https://t.lemmy.world/ (that might be an older version though? at one point Tesseract development was frozen but then it later resumed).
Your instance sidebar also mentions several other alternative UIs:
Just think of what would piss a pedohitler hooligan and be it publicly. Try to state it often so they can notice you eventually. It's considered a bonus if you make it to the regex user list because it means they want you silenced even if you try to bounce instance.
Political violence is a nessicary to protect the vulnerable and pretending all violence is the same is chosing the side that already controls what is considered "violence".
Disappointment when I realized I wasnt on the list, but that's my own fault for not posting enough. Atleast I got Reddit banned on my 15 year old account for promoting violence.
Also got a bunch of FB bans back when I used it. One time for calling someone a pigeon.
Unless I'm stupid and can't read it does appear I am infact on the list. Honestly I'm not even surprised given my bloodthirsty, but c'mon I have some good fucken shit post comments sometimes let folks decide if my particular breed of bloodlusted madness is acceptable or not ya fucken weak ass pussies.
Didn't their drummer get into some controversy with his opinion on tips that the merch booth was getting? But yeah, that's the only negative news I heard about them lol
The dev included an optional toggle to enable "toxic mode" which basically gives you posts and comments from all users and instances. A lot of folks on the "toxic" instances are choosing to interpret this as an attack.
The irony is that throwing tantrums is how they ended up on the "toxic" list in the first place.
Reputedly, THIS list is able to be disabled, trivially easily too. This is the second, hidden, much larger one containing usernames.
It is the OTHER list - the first, smaller, instance-level one - that seems to not be able to be disabled.
So Kirk is not lying.
Neither were made very clear to people though, that's accurate. If db0 hadn't been forced into digging deep to find out why the interface was broken, this might have gone under the radar for many more months.
If the author of the code, who was distributing it for free, wants to pick and choose who gets to run said code, then one is welcome to a refund of $0.00, I guess.
...y'know, I feel like, hypothetically, if I made a list of 'bad people' and used it to control access to software made available to the general public, that would put me in a fair bit of hot water. If it doesn't count as targeted harassment, it still creates a literal set of targeting data that anyone else can pick up and harass.
But one way or another, i don't think it's very constructive for me to to continue to exist within the vicinity of someone who hates me. even vicariously through their code. just kinda stings is all...
It made me wonder if he didn't get the list from the largest instance he's a user on? I'm telling you, they do some curating of the content over there. It happened to me and that's why I'm SJW.
It's not who gets to run it, but who they get to interact with that's the bad part, without even telling them makes it worse.
Using software made by people who hate you and are willing to put that hate into their code is a bad idea for sure. If their software seeks to isolate you from communities and people that believe you have a right to exist, what's left?
I think it's less about genuinely caring at this point and more about it being a home-grown meme. Plus it's perfectly designed to be popular around here because it directly involves individuals and you don't have to lean on Star Trek, Linux, or even beans for it to get attention. Those three things are good, but people like variety.
It's a humerous situation. Not many actually care just some giggles can be harvested from some asshat's fear. IE: No one really cared about boaty mcboat face.

Same. Gotta step up my game. Fuck tesseract. I've seen what they want and I don't want it to include me
Wish me luck.
Context?
I don't want to bother with finding out.
You got regexed.
I am jealous :(
This just made my day! Thank you!
It's a sign you don't post enough. This includes myself.
I haven't posted much, and yet...
Free Palestine!!!
Does tesseract dev support Israel?
Not to speak for them, but my understanding is they abhor all calls to violence..... And paradoxically, supporting Palestinian freedom is maybe a call to violence?
I don't want to make claims that don't exist, but that's how I could explain them blocking statements like this.
And to be clear, yes, free Palestine!
In all fairness, genocidal states are rarely overthrown peacefully

the list for anyone wondering
Just know that everyone on that list is a violent extremist including me
What the fuck did violet do to make the list?
I feel like one of the things he said was that he blacklisted people who "regularly post things normal people don't want to see" (or something along those lines). I assumed that was a blanket statement to cover Violet and anyone else whose posts have made him feel uncomfortable.
What an absolute snowflake.
How do I apply for the list
Goddamn I'm not just banned as a user, I'm banned as a specific userRegex. That makes me 2x more extremist than the average banned user.
Get on my level you losers.
I'm also under userRegex. What does that designation mean exactly?
It means that any user with that username on any instance will be blocked. No matter if you're on lemmy.world, piefed.zip or asldkfjalsdifjlasdf.mobi.
Ah, thanks. That's what I thought, but as this is my only Lemmy account it seemed like overkill
Am an average joe, and i also got banned via regex.
So you are not thaat extremist, just an average joe level extremist
Tesseract users losing access to your comments is a realitaetsverlustverlust 🤪
I don't get it. Is this some personal vendetta the dev has? Have they really been in this many internet arguments? Where did this list come about and why?

Really? I'm malicious spammer, hate-monger or blackhat state actor? News to me, but good to know.
Don't worry I'm on that list too. I'm just a grumpy reddit refugee. Apparently I'm an extreme violent leftist terrorist, so
¯\(ツ)/¯
I know, I think it's funny. But someone has to call out the guy who's agreeing with Admiral Patrick and always seems to have a space/star trek themed name. Either an excellent shit poster that I get to set up, or it's one of their buddies/alts.
Yeah that comment was about you specifically. Sorry you had to find out that way
Seems like it's hubris / arrogance - a poorly considered attempt to create some kind of ideal social experience.
They thought they could covertly silence leftists and trans people. Par for the course with bigoted fascists.
Been reading up on it a bit, yeah, seems to be the case indeed. Shame it went that way for them.
They posted an explanation in the tesseract community, but it boils down to they want the fediverse to succeed and replace reddit, but there is a contingent of toxic users that they feel is hindering that goal so they precompiled a list for new instance admins.
It's fully optional and can easily be disabled in the UI
It is not fully optional. It was obfuscated and unremovable. That's why the backlash has been so severe.
Not to mention, why should a user interface make that decision? That's up to individual server admins and their userbase.
Fully agree on the weirdness that this would somehow be the concern of a frontend. Nah brh. Very strange.
The author offers a lengthy explanation in their own words as to precisely why this was done. TLDR: people are free to stop using it, but he's making these changes because he wants to offer this service on behalf of those who don't enjoy all the toxicity here.

Tesseract bans them anyway.

I think you missed the point.
I won't bother wasting my time explaining it, I'll just block you.
because I have the choice to do that
Lol. TIL I'm a violent extremist. Me. Boring, professional, suit wearing, family of four having, generic white guy.
The world this guy lives in must be truly weird.
That is like the quintessential serial killer description by his neighbors.

Your TLDR reeeeeeealllllly buries the lede.
Fair, I guess that was more my own take-away from it than summary! :-P
Eh, I guess my opinion is somewhat colored by seeing some of the things they decided to block. Like "perchance" stood out. None of that specific information was in this post.

Honestly, with this block list, what's actually left in terms of content? That list would surely account for half this platform's traffic or more.
Yeah it's not for me either, but I also believe that people have a right to not have other's speech or behavior forced upon them, which is kind of exactly what ActivityPub was created to facilitate and what separates it from corporate platforms.

Hey, thanks. I had heard about the list but didn't know where to find it. Turns out I'm on it, too. Badge of honor.
Same. I even got a whole ass regex.
Yeah, I didn't know I had it in me! Death to Zionism. Such violence.
s/ism/ists/g
oops, made a violence
I'm on a list. This is a big day for me.
First read as violet extremist and thought the blacklist was about armpit lickers.
Adding to my vernacular.👅
I'm not on the list, and have been thinking if they want to curate their instance/app whatever it was that's their right.
But "Jessi?e Welle?s" is on the list? I get he's political, but if you don't like what he's saying I think I'd rather associate with the people on the list because if they're being put next to Jessie they're probably good people.
hey you wanna eat some random shit
Maaaan guess I need to post more
Proof it,or shut up. /s
Not a single SDF user? I guess we're a peaceful bunch
Nah I got a regex on the list and I used to post as an SDF user (same name).
no 40 checking in!
Tesseract dev: "I made a list of people who willfully misconstrue things to create drama and play the victim".
people on that list: "OHH WOW SO I'M A VIOLENT EXTREMIST NOW???"
Are you trying to create drama and play the victim while complaining about other people supposedly creating drama and playing the victim?
They have a cure for that, it's called fucking off.
im no victim i'm the winner here lol
Winners are well-regarded for doing everything you're doing.
nice
Cunt
TIL the wholesome yuri community are violent extremists.
you learned that? where?
did you read the devs reply?, He definitely wasn't saying this was for annoying people who misconstrue things
IIRC they said that who is on the list is either extremist or toxic
yeah not putting up with assholes is toxic, didn't you know
Some even proudly so, from the looks of things:-P.
they're allowed lol
smug levels off the charts. gross.
Honestly, incels have a greater need than normies for a space on the internet where they can be as toxic as they like. On account of nobody willing to listen to them irl... 🤣
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society
They already have Twitter and Reddit!
And Twitch (where "sadge" derives from, according to my Google-fu), and Tiktok, and Instagram, and don't forget Lemmy, and... but the thing is, when you've been banned from ALL of those, where else do you go next, other than a free instance with an open sign-up policy? 🤪
love how literally everyone on lemmy is clowning on tesseract and that mofo
Got tesserekt lmao
Its one of those moments which just makes you really happy to be here
Same!
Let's start a new list called the "would have been on the first list if they knew about me" list
Good idea, I'm in!
Perchance I can join the list 🥺?👉👈
In all seriousness: how did they think it was a good idea to create a blacklist when a sizable chunk of the Fediverse is so against external interference in general? Did they not see this coming?
They did. Why else would they hide it?
the question mark only means the first emoji is optional. If you explicitly add it the RegExp unfortunately doesn't match it anymore and you will forever be a rightist or whatever
In all fairness many lemmy mods are assclowns and ban for no reason similarly.
Yup, using the Lemmy modding tools so it shows up on the modlog.
This was done in secret and for other instances without their consent.
Someone else explain it by using an analogy:
https://lemmy.world/comment/24940962
Thank you for the link, I was seeing this wave of tesseract posts and I kept thinking "wtf why so many ppl are interacting with OCR stuff.. I get Lemmy is nerdy but wth??"
"Think of it like email" is enough to explain 90% of the fediverse.
Bro reddit banned me too. I just decided I'm done this time, not gonna bother creating a new account this time. They can sit there and circlejerk , I'm finally on a good lemmy app and there are no ads.
Yep 100% agree.
I'm not on the list. But I'm banned from Reddit, so I got that going for me, which is nice.
I left reddit before they started extreme ban hammer , and i didn't make the tesseract list. Wtf am i even doing with my life?
Have you checked the Dubvee ban logs? You might have been banned there years ago with even knowing it. Without even having known that instance existed. If that will make you feel any better. Happened to me. Through some weird automated ban sync process. Now I’ve learned the Dubvee admin is the tesseract dev who did all this, I didn’t even bother checking if I’m on the list. I’m feeling pretty hipster about all this.
Not only are you on the list, you have an instance-agnostic regex. Congratulations, you are likely a good person.
Oh, that's why they'd exclude modabuse communities
Meanwhile I have no idea what everyone is talking about. "Tesseract" huh? Guess I go outside too much...
Tesseract knows you.
sweet, I'm on the list
I take this as a good sign
So what does this mean? I'm shadowbanned for some Lemmy users because I'm too leftist?
Yes. Anyone and anything on the blocklist will be shadowbanned for anyone using the Tesseract frontend.
Being a loser. Git gud bro. (Jk I'm also not on the list and I'm not aware of being banned on reddit but I left before the extreme ban hammer too)
Hell yea fam. I checked the other day and my banned account is still a mod on numerous subs I modded. Nice to know my homies left me there.
same. not on the list and got temporary banned today lol
Cause you a real 1
Seriously, I wanted to open a PR to add myself to the list, but the fucker took the repo offline because he couldn't handle the backlash. Wussy.
My internet poisoned brain trying to figure out what permutation of pussy starts with w
Woman’s pussy
What was the criteria for getting on the list?
Being trans, being leftist, opposing genocide, demanding consequences for crimes against humanity.
You know, “violent extremist” stuff.
how come I didn't get notified that I was on the list tho
I still wonder what it is I said/posted that did it. Was it the Luigi pictures? The guillotine images? Or my relentless disdain for all things Microslop?
why not ask him?
@[email protected] what dumbshit things did we say that hurt your fragile ego?
oh never mind, I'm on the block list too.
If anyone gets ahold of him ask how I earned such high praise.
If you’re on .world and you haven’t been hassled over Luigi comments, I’d say your comments have been relatively tame.
What do you mean? I think all CEOs should be Luigi-ed.
Don't forget eaten afterwards!
Why not force them to kill and eat eachother slowly over the course of a year or two? Every time around lunch, just toss a stick in the pit and let them sort it out.
We would supply food ourselves, of course, but that's socialism. They should feel at home in a competitive environment.
Why i'm not in the list? So unfair. 😔
Everyone knows what this means but nobody knows what it's from.
"I was to your left"
Is that a movie or something?
Obsession.
I hope you have enjoyed this flawed reenactment.
I think the movie is obsession
Thank you
I know what it's from and I can't stop thinking about it.
You’re looking for Bruce Almighty.
But as a thriller slash horror movie, not as a comedy.
Adding to this: the lighting work was fantastic. Lots of darkness and silhouettes really added to the creepiness.
I think most of the people on the blocklist are not people I want to talk to. But you can fuck off if you're going to put that shit in a public client. Let people manage what they want to see by themselves.
They put in blahaj in its entirety and that instance is a good 90% the people I ever want to talk to.
The sentiment was anti-israel, so I expect most people here, including myself, at least broadly (possibly wholeheartedly) agree with his general stance, but I think such slogans are wrong and unhelpful so... yeah.
I have no idea what tesseract is and at this point, I'm too afraid to ask.
It's a front end layout that makes for fancy visual customization of lemmy.
You can check it out from your own instance by going to https://t.lemmy.world/ (that might be an older version though? at one point Tesseract development was frozen but then it later resumed).
Your instance sidebar also mentions several other alternative UIs:
Yeah, how do I get on that list? Seems like the hot list right now.
Is there like, a website, or a form? Do I need to fail an IQ test? You know, like cops can't score greater than 80 on an IQ test.
The shibboleth is as follows:
Post this exactly at midnight, three days in a row, at the appointed place.
You can't just say perchance
And get it wet
Just think of what would piss a pedohitler hooligan and be it publicly. Try to state it often so they can notice you eventually. It's considered a bonus if you make it to the regex user list because it means they want you silenced even if you try to bounce instance.
Good luck!
You just need to be fucking awesome. I'm on it, by the way.
call @[email protected] a fascist pig and he'll add you to the list evidently.
Funny thing is, an awful lot of actually dangerous extremists won’t be on that list, because they don’t post the shit they’re doing on the Internet.
I would like to submit my application.
Fuck the establishment, down with tesseract and its shitty dev, roll some heads for peace.
xxx swooper
Welp, you've definitely made my list <3
Let’s get this list party started!
Me too please.
Political violence is a nessicary to protect the vulnerable and pretending all violence is the same is chosing the side that already controls what is considered "violence".
Did you even say
thank youperchance?Oh no, application rejected! Haha
Congrats!
Disappointment when I realized I wasnt on the list, but that's my own fault for not posting enough. Atleast I got Reddit banned on my 15 year old account for promoting violence.
Also got a bunch of FB bans back when I used it. One time for calling someone a pigeon.
facebook mods looking at ur comment:
A pigeon? How dare you! That's almost as bad as calling someone an absolute walnut!
Yea that ban is a badge of honor it's so stupid. I wish I could recall why I called them that 😂
"Your post makes me want to get violent towards you. I'm therefore banning you for promoting violence"
That checks out, alot of the people Id argue with would be the "look what you made me do" type 😂
Love how people turned fact of being banned in an achievement. For some reason this doesn't happen for communities.
I'm proudly banned from ml.
How does one go about checking that?
Although you can generally just check the modlog from your own instance which is linked in most footers, you can also check the source: https://lemmy.ml/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=12387134
Only ban I see in your history is from [email protected] from a couple years ago.
Very cool. Thank you!
Well, this is an exception, I guess.
Love the username btw 🍌
Yes it does, unfortunately.
Hahahahaha. People post their site bans from grad all the time.
Unless I'm stupid and can't read it does appear I am infact on the list. Honestly I'm not even surprised given my bloodthirsty, but c'mon I have some good fucken shit post comments sometimes let folks decide if my particular breed of bloodlusted madness is acceptable or not ya fucken weak ass pussies.
nice dude 🦀🦀🦀
As Jericho used to say 'You just made the list'. It's better than a Reddit award.
I’m not on the list and I wouldn’t have cared (usually I prefer not to be on any list) but these posts are making me feel left out.
Are my left leaning comments too vanilla?
Years of criticism for posting TikTok screencaps and for what? Not on the list!
Uh oh.
That's..my name on the regex list...
What do I do now?!
High-five
Mine too not even sure why but glad to part of the club
call out @[email protected] and ask him why.
wait...he's blocked you so you can't ask him that way.
maybe go to the tesseract repo and open an issue? at least until he takes it back down again.
I just now saw this movie (Obsession). Alone. God it was chilling.
please,
perchance! yuri!
It is Perchance, not perchance. Regex not ignore capitalization.
Also Yuri in community list not keyword list.
noooo 😭
Sorry can't open paywall! Perchance perchance perchance!
Maybe it's like Candyman, if you say it five times they appear.
I can’t relate.
It took me way too long to figure out that this isnt about the band TesseracT and I was very confused, but now relieved.
it's also not about the ML video software either.
Didn't their drummer get into some controversy with his opinion on tips that the merch booth was getting? But yeah, that's the only negative news I heard about them lol
I made the list whoopie!!!!
I'm kinda out of the loop, I don't understand what's going on with Tesseract, could anyone explain it to me please :)
Nevermind ! I now understand, thanks to the comments !
The dev included an optional toggle to enable "toxic mode" which basically gives you posts and comments from all users and instances. A lot of folks on the "toxic" instances are choosing to interpret this as an attack.
The irony is that throwing tantrums is how they ended up on the "toxic" list in the first place.
Not optional, and not made clear to anybody. Hence the backlash. You're lying.
If db0 hadn't been forced into digging deep to find out why the interface was broken, this might have gone under the radar for many more months.
k
this is clearly an alt account for @[email protected] who frequents startrek.website
Yes I already confirmed that. Your behavior is completely unrelated to the reason someone might want to block you, I am just a grumpy gus!
Can you add me once more?
Yuri Moe Blahaj Death to Perchance. Hope that's enough.
Wow. I had no idea this was going on. Well...
But one way or another, i don't think it's very constructive for me to to continue to exist within the vicinity of someone who hates me. even vicariously through their code. just kinda stings is all...
this scope of possible damage hadn't occurred to me until now...
Me IRL :(
yeah im not on it TwT
Ooh tesseract, so I get to tell Murph I'm sorry? Push out some books to give a coordinate?
Why the hell do so many give a shit what one dev does? Use something else to access Lemmy!
IE: No one really cared about boaty mcboat face.
same
Yes, this is definitely "me". Don't hate me bc I'm pretty! Just pity my inability to sepll. 🤪
Edit:
me:
(for those not in the know, this graphic is reminiscent of the title for this OP)
I am not in the list
Same :(
