Ooh I got one, did u know u can scroll through Netflix for 15min and never decide on what to watch?

19

This works across streaming platforms! Peacock is a reliable one, nothing there is really worth watching, but what if you wanted to watch The Office again?

11

This is what sets the betrotting enthusiasts apart from the pros. I can only do 2-3 minutes before I switch apps and try YouTube or lemmy.

7

15 minutes?! Those are rookie numbers. If your really interested in the hobby subscribe to Foxtel again (as well as Netflix) and you'll be in the big league.

If you keep running that'd be a hobby in itself.

The enjoying part comes after the running tho.

So the hobby is not-running.

Does that make not-collecting stamps a hobby and does the atheist community know?

I came here to say that I enjoy the process of running. :(

I love to gate keep! But it's not going well.

Drawing.

Also spending days rearranging files into more sophisticated structures, finally noticing that it's becoming horribly convoluted enough to be unmaintainable, and tearing the structure down again.

Reading, creative and technical writing, tabletop gaming, miniature / fine art painting, photography, listening to and writing music (dungeon synth, extreme metal, folk, electronica), hiking, cinema

Can I just copy your answer? I'll change the writing one to coding. And hiking to dog walking.

any resources you'd recommend for getting into 3d printing?

1

It's always good to join [email protected] but the best resource is Youtube. There are a lot of different creators that talk about different parts of the process. From which machine to choose, to calibrating it for the first time.

The "getting into" part of 3d printing is buying the machine the rest of the time is you trouble shooting wtf is going wrong lol so there isn't one specific place.

3

Watch voidstarlab, get excited, buy a bambulab printer, watch slant3d, learn some cad software, profit.

I study biochem/microbiology. Recently there's been a new(?) discovery about photoresperation actually being benificial to the plant. Photo respiration is when photosynthesis accidentally happens to an oxygen which creates toxic molecules and was always thought of as wasteful. Billions of dollars have been spent to 'solve' this problem when, unsurprisingly, billions of years of evolution have solved it already.

IMO it's why plants don't do as well as we expect with high CO² concentrations (iirc)... the paper is behind a pay wall though, so I haven't read the whole thing yet but the mechanism has unfortunately been called the Bloom Cycle and is set to confuse countless undergrads in the future.

reading literature, history, and academic stuff. I have been reading several books about the creation of the MFA programs in the USA, for example. i also like studying languages and have studied 7. i also dig fountain pens and fancy pencils and stationary, makes writing and note taking a very enjoyable experience.

Mountain biking/cycling. I also do advocacy and education and trail building for this and have CPR/first aid wilderness certs I have to re-up every couple of years. hiking and camping too.

I also am into gaming, cooking, and DIY projects but that is touch and go depending on the season or other stuff going on. i mostly only game when it's winter or I'm injured/sick. I also love training my pets. My dog and I have done several training programs and my cat is basically a well-trained dog.

usually people think at least one of my hobbies is some social faux pas when they find out about it.

Well, shit, there's 2 of us. I believe we're now contractually obligated to form mutually exclusive model railroading communities here. ;)

1

Sign me up. It's been a few years, but I still have a few modules of my N scale teenage budget build in the basement. Now I actually have the budget for model railroading, but I no longer have the time. My favorite stretch of rail is the Spessartrampe in Germany. It's one of the older stretches in Germany and until recently, they were still using a helper engine to push freight up the grade because it exceeded the maximum load on the couplers. Such an interesting operation!

2

Is Gear Acquisition Syndrome a hobby? Lol

Origami and making clothes. I'm decent at the former, not self confident enough at the latter.

5

Cooking, baking, home canning! Gardening when it's the season! Knitting when I remember!

5

I have a comic that I work on when I have the time and energy for. If not some random doodles or drawing maps and sometime NPCs amongst my prep for my dnd game. Some times I play videogames too but I find it hard to really sink into it the way I did when I was a kid.

5

Many many.

Music, motorsports, computers, gaming old and new, climbing, rc cars, CRTs, fixing up music gear, reel to reels, records, CDs, mild programming, board games, reading

I wish i wasnt interested in everything!!

Boardgaming!

I own a modest company collection, run weekly boardgame nights, and demo boardgames at conventions for a large publisher. It helped me meet a lot of fantastic people. Boardgamers are some of the coolest nerds out there.

I like playing board games.

The problem is I don't enjoy sitting through 25 minute explainations of the rules of board games

1

Cooking. Being gigantic means ya boi eats. So why not enjoy what I eat? I never understood the protein shake drinkers.

4
lemmy.zip

Some people don't mind bland food or eating the same thing all the time. As someone trying to lose weight, I envy them.

4
lemmy.today

Healthy food doesn't have to bland. One of my favorite things is a spicy red cabbage slaw with lime juice and apple cider vinegar. I'm currently eating carrots with ranch made from Greek yogurt. Denying yourself flavor is not a strategy for long term success.

4

I am well aware, but not caring what my food tasted like would make things much easier.

3

This is me. I like using my morning protein shake as a kind of coffee creamer. Then I don't eat til dinner. Then I eat burritos, which I like. It's a pretty easy way to stay lean

1
  1. I read a lot, mostly fantasy, science fiction, and mysteries, plus some non-fiction.
  2. I play and run non-computer roleplaying games. I started in 1976 and have been at it ever since.
  3. I have recently taken up playing the recorder, mostly tenor. My wife and a friend play with me.
4

Gaming, programming, nail painting, 3d printing, and any random bs crafting idea that crosses my field of vision.

4

Im not sure I have them anymore. Downtime is to precious so what would be my hobbies at this point are relaxing and enjoying simple things. I mean I don't feel video games or watching media would be hobbies but if you ever saw my responses to what are you playing or watching you will see I don't exactly consume it a lot in a week. which maybe doing it less would make it more of a hobby in that case. I dunno. I do very much try my best to figure out what I can do among my options that interest me the most.

4

Same. Plenty of free hobbies exist though. Hiking, learning a language, identifying plants (check your local weather service if you can contribute your findings), geocaching, streetcomplete, attending a communal board game night or gardening group. Libraries hold all kind of events for all walks of life.

Some sort of political engagement can also be fun and additionally help find friends. There's cryptoparty to teach about privacy. Some environmental groups host day trips with volunteers to clear or repopulate strips of land. You can ask your library if you can offer a workshop of some skill you possess.

There is honestly so much free stuff that I didn't know about yet a couple of years ago.

Also stoked to do all three at once. In a three way, of course.

I make gaming terrain out of cardboard and other household junk! ...not very successfully. But every attempt is better than the last.

3
  1. Cooking

  2. Reconditioning old audio equipment

  3. Tabletop Role Playing Games. Rolled my first character back in 1978.

  4. Running... Kind of... I just completed Couch to 5K and am working on 10k now. I'm just doing it to help my health and not really trying to be a serious runner.

  • Gardening/plants in general
  • Bunnies (yes, caring for my buns is a hobby)
  • Board games and Magic the gathering
  • Video games, although it’s mostly just wow
3

In terms of hobbies I would say photography, videography, generally messing around with computers and other electronics.
I also enjoy casually cycling and driving, as well as traveling to see new places in general. Usually I combine that with the photography and videography.

3

Modern boardgames and cardgames.

(For a good time with friends, here are the keywords: Inis, Netrunner, Innovation, Port Royal, Targi, and Jaipur.)

2

Riichi mahjong. Starting playing online about six years ago, started going out to play in-person two years ago. Recently took 3rd in a small online tournament, but I've yet to put up good IRL tourney results...

2

Megagames!

They're a cross between role playing games and board games, for many players (30-50 or higher, my max is 250). Watch this video if you want to know more: https://youtu.be/hN71v9H_gg8

This is my jam. I'll be exhausted but there's so much going on, it's insane. They're 1 day events, and having a beer with the other players afterwards is where loads more stories come out. I've done serious crisis simulation, whimsical fantasy games, historical games, war games, and all kinds of games in between. If this appeals to you, there's a calendar of upcoming games here https://www.megagameassembly.com/megagame-calendar

Bouldering & Snooker, mostly. Trying all different types of beverages! Weight training is a hobby I guess. Gaming.

Latest hobby is photography, I had a camera for Christmas after not having a camera with interchangeable lenses in decades. I like that it gets me out the house as like nature/landscape/train photography.

Long standing hobbies are mechanical keyboards and coffee, espresso and pour over.

Keyboards I have really slowed down my purchases to just two or three new keyboards each year.

Coffee I have not purchased anything other than beans in a long time, but I still want to upgrade my espresso machine (marax) at some point.

2

Video games. Very, very challenging video games that don't require co-op... I'm currently mostly maining rhythm games, but had several years where I hyperfixated on roguelikes as well

1

I like to say I'm a musician and a game developer, but it's been so long since I've seriously participated in either that I don't think I deserve to describe myself as such right now.

I enjoy languages, which I do actively study unprofessionally.

Aside from my actual day job, I spend most of my time playing whichever single game I'm hyperfocusing on at the moment, although I would rather be doing one of the aforementioned hobbies.
