Do you treat the yard as a room of your house?

I've noticed some people treat their lawn like a carpet. If there is 1 leaf, that's clutter that needs to be picked up. If a tire touches their grass, it's like you got oil on their rug. They've usually manicured their lawn into 1 species monoculture grass with zero weeds and zero bugs. Which because of this lack of diversity, it is now incredibly fragile.

For many people, their yard is like a room of the house. And they expect people to treat it with a living room level of respect. They've put a lot of effort into creating this fragile monoculture grass, and they're protective of it.

Maybe you can tell from the way the question is phrased, but I view the outdoors as different than indoors. If someone misses my driveway and leaves a mark in the grass, I don't care because I know the grass will grow back eventually. If leaves fall on my yard, I don't pick them up. These problems tend to solve themselves. At least that's my view. But I've noticed a lot of people see it the other way.

Is there really a difference between an LCD & OLED screen on the Switch?

The Switch 1 has both (LCD & OLED) variants, as the original one came out with an LCD screen by default while the OLED one came out in 2021 (and the ToTK special edition of that console released when the game came out). For me, I prefer the OLED panel since the colors look sharper & vibrant. Also, it makes no sense as to why the Switch 2 reverted back to an LCD screen when they literally could've made that OLED by default.

For those who has learnt English as second language (or native speakers, what are some interesting phrases that stuck with you?

I speak English as second language. Whenever I hear new stuff, I save it to my Anki. Here's my Cool Phrases deck if anyone's interested.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/qqaxf29fk8w7035sbn3h0/Cool-Phrases-20260715174206.apkg?rlkey=aoikq8wupm6n4fud4vgur38tr&st=0slo8hox&dl=0

I want to expand this deck. Do you know a phrase that stuck in your mind? Any input is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Have you ever felt social cringe so bad that you kind of want to die? Why is that?

Like what biological function thinks it's helpful to want to die? It's a visceral reaction so it has to be a kind of biological intuition.

I've got it so bad off of something that is seemingly not worth this reaction. But I can't shake it anyway. But if this sense is biological, then it can cascade beyond reason like an allergic reaction.

I went to a board game night with some folks who are mostly acquaintances. I show up and a group is already starting to figure out a game and it looked like the easiest group to join. This game is bad. I was chill. My teammate was chill. The people we were playing with were chill. But this game was so bad I can't shake the fact that despite everyone having made the best of it, this was not a good social interaction. And I just feel bad. More bad than I should feel. It's just painful.

The game was Jurassic Park Danger! And maybe I just need to tell someone. I'm not going to do anything. I don't need a wellness check. But I can't shake this feeling like death would be ok and maybe for the best.

What is it about bad social interactions that make us feel like death is preferable?

When does upgrading you PC become a "new" PC?

I was wondering when people consider themselves to have a new PC. Technically I've had the same PC for close to 20 years now, but every part's been upgraded several times over.

I figure everyone's got a different mind about it. For me, I'd have to say when all of the big three—CPU, GPU, mobo—have completed a phase, my brain thinks of the previous setup as "the old PC".

What actionable steps can you take to build community?

Obviously this is a broad and controversial topic (especially since I'm asking about both on and offline) but as individualism and isolationism seems to be increasing in the western world, I'm wondering what can be done and what others have done to counteract this trend.

Edit: Obviously, there's broad things like participating in hobby groups or being nice to neighbours, but I'm especially interested in discussion of specifics, such as ways to set up these groups, organisational structures, or ways to expand connections from a hobby group beyond just the hobby.

US Expats(or hopeful expats), what countries do you consider your good home away from home?

To explain first, I would like to say that I'm not asking about temps, local flavor, ease of transfer or the like.

My wife and I are stuck in the US while caring for her father. When the inevitable happens, however, we would like to be prepared to head out ASAP. We've done a lot of searching but I thought I'd ask here in case someone's done some legwork for the same goals as us. I traveled a bunch as a kid in the military but that was a very long time ago and I wouldn't trust my notions of the countries in question to have remained the same.

Basically, a lot of our goals will be achieved just by not being in the US any longer but we'd hate to end up in a spot that's working hard to emulate the current social and political climate here. Just as an example, we don't consider a large portion of Europe to be feasible for us due to the widespread tracking, online verification, etc. These aren't huge points by themselves but does lead one to believe that it's similar enough in it's trajectory to warrant concern.

I can answer any questions you might have that may be able to help guide suggestions but I'll leave it at this for now so I don't throw too many wrenches in the conversation.

Thanks for your time!
