Obv., brigading is completely wrong and evil and I would never support or countenance such a thing, and Epstein probably did it a lot, but over on that link there's a question about non American sodas.
Just putting it out there.
People will read it or not.
People will react or not.
We all have agency.
What is something you can't do with 100M dollars but can do with 18 dollars?
I misread the title of the post from yesterday, thought it was eighteen dollars, not one billion dollars. Got me wondering.
What are your cheap, but not miserable, recipes?
Times are hard, the cost of living is rising, and so, like many people, I'm trying to cook cheaper meals for the family. I recently did the Piri-piri chicken wing, wedges and corn traybake from BBC Food.
Wings are cheap, potatoes are cheap, and corn isn't crazy expensive. The limes were probably the most extravagent ingredient. Total price, probably £2-£3 per person.
It was great, and the family all enjoyed it. To the point where it would go on the regular rotation even if we had suitcases full of cash stashed around the place!
What are your best economical recipes that aren't just beans, chickpeas, and rice? Meals you actively looks forward to, rather than just a budget way of getting calories inside you?
On my list for the coming week:
- Carbonara
- Sausage and mash with onion gravy
- Chicken Quesadillas
- Mac and Cheese with salad
- Spicy black bean tacos
- Stir-fried tofu
- Slow cooker leek and potato soup
I can supply recipes for any of these.

A Himhe bar!
[I'm very excited about this joke because it was actually a daughter joke. And so the student has become the master!]
Anyone else live somewhere that has had people joining in a WiFi naming joke?
My WiFi is ‘Secret Rebel Base’.
My neighbours have added ‘Jabba the Hub’, ‘Obi Lan Kenobi’, and ‘Red WiFi-ve Standing By’. This makes me happy.
Anyone else live in a neighbourhood that embraces this kind of WiFi silliness?

Oh, Edmund, can it be true that I hold here in my mortal hand a nugget of purest green?
What music do you like to fall asleep to?
Er, the title pretty much explains. My wife listens to podcasts and falls asleep to them but I can't not listen to a human voice so I listen to (ideally instrumental) music.
Anyone else? If so, what do you put on to drift away to?
Best edition for a TTRPG
Many years ago I ran a couple of TTRPG mashups of Warhammer 40k and Dune. The emperor was much the same as 40k, the Sardaukar were marines, the Bene Gesserit were a plot manifested by Tzeentch, the Butlerian Jihad explained the lack of computers, etc., etc. It was - if I do say so myself - pretty awesome.
Now my kids are getting into role-playing and not interested in fantasy so I'm thinking about reviving my old mashup for them.
In the old days I used the 1st ed. Rogue Trader rules which seemed like the beginnings of an awesome TTRPG before Games Workshop committed fully to selling lead, then plastic, figures for skirmish wargames.
Is there a newer version of Warhammer 40k that is still TTRPG focussed, or should I dust off my old, loose-leaf copy of 1st ed. and work from that?

I've been a bit quiet lately, that's not going to change for a bit!
That's my kitchen being demolished.
Normal service will resume, if they can put it back together again!
