What games are you actually enjoying right now?
I saw a video on spawnwave that talked today about what games people are enjoying in 2026 right now. And the different reactions of different social media/sites.
I personally am loving Wild Blue Skie s. Its just starfox. Thats what I want to play!
BALL x PIT is a whole lot of fun. I didn't think it would be but it keeps getting better and better.
I also liked FTL back in the day so I picked up Void War . Its like warhammer + FTL and its fantastic.
EDIT: You all are great! Keep them coming! So many games (video games and otherwise) in this list!

Currently I'm addicted to Dressmaker. It's chill, creative and without pressure that it's perfect to decompress and relax after work.
Original Metroid 2 on GB. It's short, but I'm having a lot of fun doing a few metroids each morning.
Playing a bunch of remastered Witcher 3
What the Golf has been making me laugh a lot.
My buddy talked me into no mans sky and I gotta say, its really fun.
Its got bugs for sure, and some stuff that is irritating like having to hold E for every action or the stupid notification that happens every time you warp to a system or station that requires you to hold tab to skip but there are mods that help.
I love being able to build a ship and a base on different planets, own my own space fleet, destroy pirates, be a pirate, etc. Its far from perfect but I'm into it now. Its fun as hell.
I'm struggling my way through Dark Souls right now, just got to Blighttown. Souls-like games weren't ever my jam previously but I just got into them recently after beating Mortal Shell 2 and figured I'd play my way through the Fromsoft catalogue in order.
I'm also playing Lies of P and that game is fantastic. Before that it was a lot of Hades and Pathogenic, which I still go back to for breaks from dieing in Dark Souls lol
I'm playing the Witcher 3 for the remaster, and getting mollywopped over and over on Death March. I'm also watching my girlfriend become a gamer playing Skyrim.
My wife has over 1200+ hours in skyrim. Your girlfriend is going to enjoy I think haha. GL!
Ace Combat 8. Although my computer requires that it be set to potato mode.
Freelancer. Old but always enjoyable.
Battletech. HBS put out an absolute banger.
Transport Fever 3 just came out. I just sunk 12 hours and plan to sink even more. They perfected the tycoon genre.
Not Hearts of Iron 4
EDIT: Age of History 3
American Truck Simulator with the new road car DLC is making me relive all those trailers of Need For Speed: The Run back in the day.
I've got a deck of cards in my coffee table that I like to play solitaire on. I keep tweaking the house rules to make it more fun.
Actually I'm not sure I'd call it "fun" so much as "relaxing." But I do enjoy myself.
It counts!
Haha thanks, I did double check this wasn't just about video games first. :9
I was hoping to get some physical games here too.
Project zomboid
I’m really enjoying the creativity of Sandustry, available in steam and GOG. Turning sand into gold and excavating with different tools has been fun.
Grim Dawn. A new DLC came out, which is pretty neat.
playing fallout 4 again. i already loved it when it had came out, but it is honestly even better than i remember. too many people focus on what the game isn't and completely miss the masterpiece that it is
I picked up Metaphor re: fantazio on the steam sale and it's been pretty fun so far. It's scratching that turn based Japanese itch.
I'm playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I played through the first one and loved it, and I'm loving the second one. A lot of love got put into this and I love medieval history, and the game is long. And hard. But in the way you have to slowly hone your skills and really learn the mechanics. But I kind of enjoy how it's for a slower pace, and I'm really getting my money's worth with this series.
I just finished GTA IV on the PS3. For a game that's satirical of America's love of guns and violence, it makes some very poignant statements of war and the bitterness one gets from having to live through it. I still have The Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost & Damned to play through so I'm looking forward to the themes the story has there.
I started playing Ember Knights with some friends after seeing it on the Steam sale on a whim
It was a hit! I spent more time this weekend with this group of friends than I have in quite a while just running through the game.
At $7 and $14 with DLC that seems to double the content, it's very much worth it for a game that's basically couch coop "Hades at home".
It also supports Remote Play Together fwiw, but we've had mediocre luck using it
Never finished Outer Wilds so decided to pick it uo again, start over, and get through it. Such a great game.
Vampire Crawlers
I'm currently playing "It Takes Two" with my wife. Super fun co-op game!
It has been two years since I did a perfection run on Stardew Valley so why not do it again - this time heavily modded with the most downloaded extended mod pack that I customized even further.
I've also tried to play Where Winds Meet but Stardew has my attention nine days out of ten.
Playing The Witcher 3 for the first time. I bought the original when it first came out and just never played it. But they went to all the trouble to be super exceptional people and release the remaster for free so now I have to play it.
What the fuck was 10 years ago me thinking? This game is so fucking good.
Control: Resonant
I think I'm 25-30h in and I don't want to put it down. Idk how long it is, but all the Remedy Universe games are such a treat, I don't want it to be over. I'm enjoying the melee-focused combat more than the first game's TPS combat, I think.
I also just started this! I got 100% completion on Control - I loved the lore and little details, finding myself reading every note and watching every video.
Resonant seems to be following the same vibe for me.
I loved the lore in Control! I didnt even the mind the gameplay, i was just looking forward for more lore!
XCOM 2
I'm playing Majora's Mask using 2 Ship 2 Harkinian. It's quite nice.
Been enjoying Going Medieval for single player, it's the perfect little castle builder fantasy, though building an actual castle takes a very long time when you're still learning the game. But! That incentivises starting out small, feels like you get to see actual historical development rather than just arriving at the big final castle.
Multiplayer it's Big Walk, what an absolute delight! Loving that the intro is so gentle, but there's clearly a lot of depth.
Slay the Spire 2. No matter how hard I try to escape, all roads lead back to the spire.
Hollow Knight, but I am taking a break since I just cannot seem to beat the Traitor Lord boss. Every boss before that I managed in a couple tries but this one really beats me. Even got the top nail upgrade now, still hard. I'll get him eventually...
I believe you have to have shadow dash to fight him. You can dash through every attack he does because he takes long enough between them.
Have tried it, just need to work on my rhythm, I think. Does take a long time like that.
This one is quite hard iirc, i too struggle with it for some times. Mantis and their erratic movement always catch me offguard. The same as Nosk.
I totally admit that I "cheesed" Nosk a bit. Probably already a strategy written down online somewhere but I managed to figure out myself that if you stand right next/under the platform he cannot hit you well with this bubble attack and often just walks over you without damaging you, which when you can easily hit him.
When he goes into the ceiling for his drop attack stay at the entrance door where he cannot hit you, dashing away as soon as he does his skreech before falling on you.
i keep getting SO CLOSE to beating hornet and she kicks my ass every time.
Is that before or after Traitor Lord? I already fought her like 3 times!
Before. If you fought her where she throws the spikeballs that's the last time
Ah yes, did that already. Phew!
Nivalis Nights... the visuals and storytelling + tycoon combination is really cool.
I've heard the performance is dog shit though. Have they patched it?
I think I spent probably 20+ hours playing Control Resonant this weekend. Crazy good game.
Finally getting around to playing Baldur's Gate… the original. I haven't played 3 yet, for some reason I decided I want to play the games in order lol
I just 100%ed vampire crawlers, and jumped over to cobalt core. Crawlers resonated more with me than the original survivors game, the mechanics are really neat and the game is not afraid to let your power levels grow beyond ridiculous levels.
I was reminded that I have a copy of Control (2019) that I hadn't touched, so a couple of weeks ago I started playing it. I was really enjoying it for a few hours, but it started to feel a bit repetitive and I haven't been able to get back to it for a few days.
It starts slow but gets more fun as you get more abilities. By the time you get them all and you feel like a god, flying around the room, and using telekinesis to throw debris at enemies, it gets pretty fun. The setting is great too imo
looking forward to the ball x pit dlc soon
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Game Dev Tycoon, Football Tactics.
I've picked up Nine Sols again. I like parry games and this is sort of like Hollow Knight meets Sekiro. I couldn't get into Hollow Knight but almost instantly got into Nine Sols, for whatever reason.
I was the opposite. Loved Hollow Knight but couldn't get into Nine Sols. I tried for about 5 hours before deciding it wasn't for me.
Recently been getting into MIO, which has been great.
Also cute furry cyber ninjas.
This one is on my radar. I loved Sekiro and I’m currently enjoying the crap out of Sifu
I remember seeing Sifu a lot a while back. I should put that on my wishlist.
Sekiro was my first ever soulslike game, so I gave up halfway through. I should also go back and finish it now that I've got more experience.
Sifu has that parry gameplay. It feels great and looks badass.
I've recently returned to Genshin Impact. My kids played it for years before I decided to give it a chance, because c'mon, Chinese anime gacha game, what could possibly be there for me. Turns out, it has an excellent (and, to my limited knowledge, quite unique) combat system with elemental reactions and diverse enemies to whom you need to adjust your team. It's fully possible to play for free and you can get a big boost for 10€ per month, so not exactly bank breaking. The only real downsides to the game are the long dialogues in the story quests, which keep getting even longer as the story progresses; and at times questionable quality of the writing.
Honkai Star Rail has taken over my life, so I get where you're coming from.
What makes it so addictive for me was stumbling upon the fact that under the surface layer of the game/plot Hoyo is making very deep meta commentary about philosophical stances. And I'm not talking about those kinds of cheap plot enhancing surface concepts that games like to toss in to make it seem deep. I mean that the entire thing is built around the exploration of these concepts. It's philosophical inquiry first, game second. It's a ludicrous attempt that shouldn't make any money at all, but the bulk of what they are saying is hidden and the flashy game stuff is promoted so it works.
Because it's couched in allegory and the playerbase is like 15, nobody believes me, lol. But there are videos from a guy who's obviously a phd in philosophy who breaks down each chapter and explains it.
Thankfully I am too much of a miser to be a gambling addict.
I return to it like every 6 months just to follow the story, but it gets really repetitive after I finish the story and quit playing it soon after.
Dune: Awakening, doing singleplayer because I have nobody to play online servers eoth and enjoying it a lot
I bought Monster Hunter Rise as it's currently 90% off on Steam, really enjoying my time with it so far.
I recently got the itch to play Europa Universalis IV again (version 1.30.6 because I don't own the later expansions), so I'm on my second try to build the glorious Dutch trading empire.
Have you played EU V yet? It's been a few months since I've picked it up, but I was hooked for a little while.
They somehow made the game simultaneously more complicated and more accessible. Also more fun imo.
I was also enjoying Victoria 3 quite a bit. I have to be in the right mood though, and just haven't been feeling Paradox Grand Strategy games recently.
No, I've got a lot of games on my backlog, so I wasn't really planning on playing IV either, but then it just happened :P
Also, I guess it's a good idea to wait for them to be a few expansions deep, so the game is more finished.
Pillars of Eternity with the new turn based combat! I've been waiting for it for a long time!
I played crow country and i loved it! Right now i dread to install more games because i had a lot of things to do.
i've been playing Broken Age and I'm really enjoying it. just started the second act.
Also started ghostrunner 2 But that first boss is unforgiving.
Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom (the OG not the remaster)
Love just cruising through the game with speedrunning strategies and modding it.
Ace Combat 8 and Mortal Shell 2
Mortal Shell 2 was a surprise hit for me. I couldn't put it down and wanted more after I beat it so now I'm on a souls game binge haha.
I'm planning to play more FromSoft games. Only one that got me into it was Elden Ring.
Z.o.t.a.
Eta
Z.a.t.o
Going through LocoMoto. A small Sweedish game. Came out in 2025, and thr studio was promptly closed.
Cute game. You, a legitimate anthropomorphised animal, drive a train around, kinda like Zelda Spirit Tracks. Do quests, cart people around in your train, solve mysteries... really chill music as well.
I was down with the flu for a week, so I a) started Broken Sword...for REAL this time. b) charged up my 3DS for the first time in years and am just playing a lot of CrossworDS Plus or whatever.
Tonight I started Pokemon Heartgold, but I can't lie, didn't play them back in the day and don't understand the appeal. I'm going to try though.
If you didn't play Pokemon as a kid, you shouldn't waste your time. They're games for babies. You're only going to like it as an adult if you've got nostalgia.
There are way better monster collecting/training games that aren't made for kids in kindergarten if that's what you're looking for. The Shin Megami Tensei series has some amazing monster design.
I think probably the most novel thing gold/silver did back I the day was a real-time clock and day of the week tracker. This meant you had to log in at certain times to hunt certain pokemon, or attend certain events. This isn't as impressive today, but at the time was a whole new level of immersion fans had never seen before, in any handheld game really.
It was also incredible that they had the new jhoto region, but also the entire gen 1 kanto region (set a few years in the future). I remember that was just mind blowing that this was even possible.
But if you're not feeling it, don't force yourself through it. The Pokemon games aren't for everybody.
Yeah, I try one every few years because tastes change. I will say my time last night was a bit more engaging than in the past. So we'll see.
But... Why?
I am enjoying Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. Ended up restarting the campaign when I went bankrupt in game. Turns out keeping 75% of all the mechs I salvaged was a poor choice. This time I've kept my mech inventory focused, and it is paying off.
American Truck Simulator!
It's exactly what it sounds like. You drive a truck. You make deliveries. Beautiful scenery, relaxing drives, plus some challenge when it comes time to back up to the loading dock. It's really chill and it's awesome.
(There's also Euro Truck Simulator 2 which is literally the exact same game but in Europe, if that's more your thing.)
-- Frost
You might like Spin Tires, Mud Runner and Snow Runner. Drive logging trucks through the wilderness and stuff.
I still enjoy snow runner. Wish I had a friend to play it with, the co-op play was really fun.
I played through BrokenLore: LOW recently. I thought it would be another one of those crappy horror games made in an hour, but this one was actually alright. I even went ahead and platinum'ed the achievements.
I've also enjoyed making chemicals in Alembic. Making a big canister of fluorine gas and dropping pure cesium into it is fun.
I also played through the demo of Misohagi Crossing recently. The dev is a Japanese person branching into the Western market, so I gave it a look.
I signed up for the Undershroom Playtest. I found the idea of being chased by those jaw figurines dentists have to be hilarious.
I've also dabbled in playing some AI games and H games recently. Most of the AI games are simply crap, though I did play a demo of one that showed promise.
Ballest. It's track mania but with a marble. Time trial courses. Small-ish community so world records are kinda possible to achieve. And it's like 3 bucks or something and being updated.
I'm currently quiet busy with other stuff and don't play too much. I mostly play older games, a few years old or even retro. Recently played Civilization 4, because that's one of the favorites in the series, so I wanted to see how it compares to the other games in series. I also started playing racing simulation on PC. Automobilista 2 is probably the best game for single players, as I'm not interested in playing online (yet). The twist for myself is, that I started playing with gyro controls, which gives it a whole new life to racing games. Maybe I buy a wheel soon! This sales event in Steam made my Pile of Shame even bigger; it's out of control.
And then there are the emulated retro games I'm going back to and try Mods and Romhacks out in RetroArch for various systems. Currently doing patches for 16 bit 90's console games such as Super Nintendo and Mega Drive / Genesis. Edit: Ah I forgot. A few days ago installed Quiver Launcher, that handles downloads and install of decompiled or recompiled games for PC. Playing F-Zero native on PC is something else.
Did something went wrong here or is this intentional? I find it hilarious to link the last letter only. :D No need to change, just asking, it's quiet funny. BTW Spawnwave is my favorite Gaming related news channel for many years now. :-) (Besides Mr. Sujano for Retro news.)
I totally put this up last night thought I would get 10 people commenting. Yeah so far 10x that. Crazy.
It was an oops haha. Fixed.
Another spanwave enjoy-er, nice. I would be cool if he knew about the fediverse.
Ohh another person to follow, thanks!
I've been enjoying Wasteland 2 on my Xbox, and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor on my phone.
final fantasy 1 and dog witch
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. I am going really slowly and playing one chapter of each story at a time before switching to the next one. I like the map exploration aspect a lot.
I'm always playing at least one game. On days where I work and I don't have as much time as I'd like (I work very little anyway so I still have plenty) I'm playing GTA V Enhanced and Link's Awakening DX HD. On days I'm off I'm playing GTA V Enhanced and No Man's Sky. I love all of these games dearly. I unintentionally am playing 3 of my favourite games of all time rn lol.
I played ballxpit for a bit, I'm playing Deadly Days Roadtrip right now, it's a survivor with a backpack leveling mechanic
I just finished Pragmata (had to speedrun the last few levels to fit in Control: Resonant, which I feel bad about - but I'd had C:R preordeted for ages and love anything from Remedy... Anyway, I digress.)
Pragmata I thought was good, and Capcom deserve some credit. An actual new IP, a genuinely fun and different game mechanic, visually looks good - and is bright and striking rather than regulation brown - and was just good fun to play. My only criticism would be that the dialogue/plotting felt like it was kinda rushed - like they skipped a couple of chapters and you go from "just met" to "devoted partners" in one scene and missed the plot/character development needed to get from A to B. I feel bad saying it though, because it's a decent and topical plot and has some genuinely affecting moments.
Credit where due; I hope it does OK because God knows it's hard enough to find games doing anything new these days.
Been playing the hell out of Hogwarts Legacy. WAY better then I ever imagined it would be and I’m not even a Harry Potter fan. In fact, I never saw a single movie.
Haha that's crazy dude. Professor Fig dies at the end and Rookwood is a traitor. Now go play something else.
I already knew how it ends. But…
I sincerely hope that one day, you come to terms withwhatever it was that made you this way, because it has to suck to want to be an asshole.
Super fun, but ethically you should pirate this one.
Why?
Rowling went crazy
Ah okay, I never cared what the political talk is, as long as it does not affect the media I'm watching (or playing). She didn't even work on the game Hogwarts Legacy, and the game is not even about Harry Potter himself.
The people here don’t care about meaningful and nuanced thought. If you don’t bandwagon with the hive, they’ll rip you to shreds.
Part of the problem.
She still gets money for it. And then uses that money to fund anti-trans TERF stuff. Depending on your ideals there may be some cognitive dissonance there is all.
Assuming you are right, she is not the only one who gets money. The developers were a full team creating the game, the publisher is not her. You can ignore the entire world and focus only on her, or you are fair and focus on everyone involved.
You are a privileged, selfish wanker utterly devoid of consideration.
I encourage you to read the Wikipedia article I linked. She is highly politically active and was a pivotal influence on directly harming trans rights. She is also highly litigative and will sue anybody that is against her.
Here's one quote from the article:
She also doesn't believe asexual people exist, she believes that women are defined by their biological birth sex, she backed legislation to make it more difficult to change genders, she deliberately misgenders people, and she created her own sexual assault crisis shelter specifically to exclude trans women from it.
I think it was particularly interesting that the actors for Ron, Hermione, and Harry, all opposed Rowling's opinions.
Supporting the brand is supporting her, full stop. Supporting her is supporting anti-trans politics. You can choose to ignore that, that's entirely up to you; but it is a choice nonetheless.
Got it free on PSN.
And PSN gives JKR a royalty... Still, hard to pirate on
PShardware you don't really own.So…. I didn’t pay for it. And I own my PS5. And frankly, I don’t really care that royalties are made. It’s a good game and the developers deserve their cut.
I had Hogwarts Legacy on my radar for a long time, but didn't want play it until I watched the films. So one day I sat down and watched all 10 main films (I think its 10 parts, right?) and they are way more amazing that I thought to be! To a degree that I am a little bit small fan of Harry Potter now. :-) Great films I highly recommend watching it, it was a mistake not watching the films back then.
As for the game, I then purchased it and tried out. It's a nice game and I need to go back to it. Stopped playing because I had so much to play and put it back for a while (then forgot about it).
