anybody else remember their first YouTube/internet video?

I think its Carton [Somthings] vs Richmond Tigers.
Think they are both in the same state.
AFL can be impressive. (I think 150 meter pitch. At least a 50*(translate below) meter line from the Scoring Zone to the Goal Posts.
I meuseured 25 meters*, and tried to kick a goal. It limped into the scoring zone. The fact that tellented people can run for 100+ meters and STILL kick the ball 50 meters is physically impressive.
But seeing 20 people PER TEAM running around for a ball just looses my interest.
150m = 492 ft
50m = 164 ft
25m = 82 ft
Any Americans out there sober enough to correct c/drunk thoughts, you're probably right
(I told myself 'I will be home by 10pm. 10:30 the latest. It's now 11:15. Oops)
I work at a school.
Visit the science room.
New anatomy textbooks.
I'm 26 (27 very soon) and I'm still giggling like a 12-15 year old and looking at the reproductive system section.
I've seen the trilogy at least 2 or 3 times, all back to back marathons (which is hard, but doable). But old mates INSISTED a 6pm to 5am run. All the times, I've been a zombie by the time we got to movie 3.
Local cinema did a marathon. 10am to 11pm. I still needed to wash my face a few times near the end, but my god, I was invested.
I knew the happy ending, but I was super invested in the climb between the Shelob bite and Mt Doom, that moment of silence before "For Frodo".
Was like I was reading the books for the first time again...
Bar is playing clips of golf, rugby, tennis and cricket. Imagine the same professionals, but having to compete with the mose unprofessional shoes available. (Cricket can wear steel capped crocs like 'I did a thing' and 'Stuff made here' on YouTube. Both great channels if you like the DIY science/engineering genre.)
Imagine meeting someone else with a pixel phone, talking about how cool it is, then you bring up how you have a custom OS to block google and tracking from your device.
If they are interested, you can offer to just plug your phone into there's, press 3 buttons, and presto, their device is free
(Well, you have to imagine it. I didnt meet a pixel user here at the bar, but I did free another device for me to upgrade to.)
And of course, even if they decide to free their device, they have to loose all the data on it, so you will need to have a few spare USB-C to USB-A drives on your keychain for them to borrow. Then it might take a while to back up data, 30 minutes to flash GrapheneOS, then EVEN MORE time to teach them how to install apps and such, so it will take a while...
But it is technically possible...
I watched House of Dynamite over the weekend, but found no reviews/discussion about the movie and it's ending. So I'm opening the discussion here.
The whole movie builds up to the bomb hitting the country, but didn't show what happens next, or what was the next actions done by POTUS.
I know that there is possibly no right answer to what happens next (I can't think of another more satisfying way to end the movie) but it was still annoying. Building up all that tension to just cut to title.
I still loved the movie. Saw about half trailer in front of One Battle After Another, saw Kathryn Bigelow name, and kinda zoned out, excited by another movie by her. Didn't watch any more trailers before going in.
First off, I didn't think 'wearing hats' can be so intense.
As a kid, I saw ads about Survivor on TV. Parents always made comments about how its fake TV slop.
So as an adult* I never watched Survivor before, and skipped the survivor episodes on Game Changer. (Se4Ep9-10)
These 4 episodes just said "Battle Royals", so I gave them a chance. Wow, these are fun.
*Is it still 'an adult' when I'm old enough to go to a bar/pub, but I'm drinking+eating alone, while watching DropOut at the bar?
i opened reddit again today because silksong is finally out. went to see how the subreddit is going. (sadly, the silksong communities here are rather sane. r/silksong is still about 40-50% insane, but more sane posts are coming in)
front page is r/nextfuckinglevel. guy chopping wood uses a tire to keep the log upright to chop the wood easier.
i remember making a reddit acount because r/fiftyfifty and r/watchpeopledie. now its just advertiser friendly r/mildlyinteresting at best making the front page.
Curious if anyone has tried to stitch all the episodes, (cutting out opening and closing credits) into one ~15 hour long video. Might be impractical to watch that way but still an interesting idea.
It appears to be a serious video too. Lost brain cells watching it, so I don't reccomend
Cant wait for the day I can delete Discord and never look back.
1hr+ for a general update* (following the guide. Pre-kernel)
On a more serious note, gentoo is fun... On competent hardware. This is a 4 core Celeron N2940 with 4gb of RAM.
*emerge --ask --verbose --update --deep --changed-use @world is too long to type...
On the one hand, my father lost his dad when he was 12, so he is not perfect. I want to assume he is atleast trying his best. But this past year, "his best" was "OK with punching his children" and as far as I know, hasnt seen his grand children. (My sister has a kid. Living happy with her partner. Since sister and partner is not married, my dad doesnt acknowlege them.)
Im OK with skipping the birthday text to father, but mother (who i still talk to) insist i send the text.
Im following the handbook, and I'm up to configuring the kernel. (In a vm. Skipping the optional installing firmware/microcode for now)
Trying for an OpenRC system, but it looks like all the steps need systemd.
All the videos I watched seems to skip this step and just go to Kernel configuration and compilation, but I dont want to a) mix old videos and up-to-date handbook, and b) blindly copy commands. I understood mostly everything untill now. Just this kernel step where I got lost the first time I tried to install gentoo.
Younger brother asking how to get earn minecoins. You cant. Have to buy them. That dissapointment in his voice. The heart break i feel as the older brother.
Cant imagine on christmas, parenta go all in on the new system and popular game, then to realise that thier child cant have the max amount of fun* without paying extra.
On a more serious note, how does updating apps on gentoo work? I understand that everything is built on your system, but then if the app is updated, do you need to re-compile every time?
Before I moved here, this was easily a trick question. All made up answers. (And im ashamed to know the answer)
