[Vote] Should we defederate from maga.place?

A bit over a month ago, a user posted in [email protected] to propose defederating from maga.place. That post was followed by a discussion in [email protected] a week ago, which seems to have gained some traction. In response, we're going to hold a vote on the matter. Voting will be open for one week, through Friday, November 7.

But: this is going against my belief to not create self-reinforcing echo chambers. I truly believe it's better to meet them and challenge their (rather stupid) opinions, but MAGA has just gone too far for me to even bother trying.

Normally I'm not in favour of defederation, but I stepped over to have a look and it's just propaganda and shit. Nothing thoughtful or inviting real discussion.

I haven’t seen the content, but even having a complete troll instance isn’t part of why I’m on here. If I want to see the shenanigans happening over there, I’ll just use another account.

Yes, I would normally be against this due to creating an echo chamber - but as others have stated there are literal not so secret police terrorising citizens.

I haven't experienced any issues from their users, nor have I seen any evidence of their users causing problems. IMO, defederation should only happen if working w/ their admins to deal with their users who cause problems doesn't work, not because we disagree with content on their instance.

Yes. I don't see a problem with defederating when it it is to get away from zombies looking to spread their infection of stupidity.

I’ve seen really good “no” positions and I think they have some great reasoning even though they’re against the MAGA gang. Thank you to those who are thinking logically and of others. My vote is more emotional due to I just can’t weigh out the options anymore and I’m just done with it all. To others point, I have just blocked them and did reasoning before that… it shouldn’t be this hard to be decent to one another. I hope they find happiness without hate.
