Fewer Bots, More Ads: The Pentagon’s Evolving Online Influence Campaigns

In August 2022, Stanford Internet Observatory and Graphika published “Unheard Voice,” a report analyzing pro-Western influence operations linked to the Pentagon, which involved well over 100 accounts that Twitter and Meta had taken down for violating their rules against manipulation and coordinated inauthentic behavior. I was a co-author on the report.

Credit Bureaus Are Leaving More Mistakes on Frustrated Consumers’ Reports Under Trump’s CFPB

In February 2025, Russell Vought, a White House official who oversaw sweeping cuts across federal agencies, took control of the CFPB as acting director. He quickly ordered a stop to nearly all agency work. Under his leadership, the CFPB has attempted to fire most of its staff, frozen investigations and dropped enforcement actions, including against TransUnion. One of the CFPB’s new lawyers leading the pullback on enforcement represented Experian for years before joining the administration.

The credit bureaus “want to do as little as possible,” said Chi Chi Wu, director of consumer reporting at the National Consumer Law Center, which is a plaintiff in a lawsuit that has so far blocked some of the administration’s dismantling efforts.

“The thing that is making them do any kind of effort is a lawsuit or a regulator, and now we don’t have the regulator,” Wu said.

She Was a Key Voice of the 1990s Labor Movement in Nike’s Indonesia Factories. Today She Relies on Donations From Abroad.

Cicih Sukaesih helped bring the world’s attention to the lives of the young women in poor countries who made sneakers in the 1990s, first by organizing a strike and later by marching onto Nike’s bucolic corporate campus in Oregon to demand a meeting with co-founder Phil Knight.

Felted paintbrush cases

I've been using sushi rollers to transport my brushes since art school, finally decided to make my own brush-roll-up.

Wet felting is the process of using soap, hot water and mechanical agitation to coax wool fibres to knit together. I dyed some burlap and cheesecloth to work into the fibres as well, 'cause I love texture.

Here's a pic of the inside — all criticism for brush care can go to my twelve year old niece.

I made him.

I'm good at a lot of things. Sewing isn't one of them.

This started when I got a pattern to use up the box of felt from my failed wet felting experiments. Since I already mastered The Dryer Ball, my hubris led me to believe I was ready for multi-cellular organisms.

And I was. He's my handsome fox man.

The Narwhal’s press freedom case against the RCMP, explained

In November 2021, photojournalist Amber Bracken was on assignment for The Narwhal, reporting from northwestern British Columbia. She was documenting tensions over the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline through Wet’suwet’en territory.

Amber was handcuffed, held in a cell for three nights and had her camera gear and photographs seized — all for doing her job.

We believe this was a clear violation of her Charter rights — and The Narwhal’s. So we sued the RCMP to take a stand for press freedom. Now, our trial is underway.

'We Got Us' March Demands 'ICE OUT' and Action From New Mexico State Legislation

“What we’re building together is about more than one march or one Legislative Session,” said YUCCA Campaign Organizer Jonathon Juárez to Unicorn Riot. “The We Got Us Mass Mobilization was the culmination of weeks of organizing and an intensive four-day bootcamp, giving newly trained organizers the chance to put their skills into practice and bringing together a diverse coalition of young people, community members, and organizations to take action together.”

Israeli fire kills 11, including journalists and children, Gaza medics say

Israeli fire killed 11 Palestinians including two boys and three journalists in separate incidents in Gaza on Wednesday, local medics said, in the latest violence to undermine a three-month-old ceasefire in the war-shattered enclave.

Palestinian health officials said an Israeli airstrike killed three Palestinian journalists travelling in a car on assignment to film a displaced persons camp in central Gaza.

7 Weird Old Punctuation Marks We Should Bring Back

THE DOG’S BOLLOCKS

When your sentence says, “I’m about to say something,” and then you say that thing, we have a way of separating the two halves of the sentence: a colon. We also have an alternative way of separating the two—a dash. In previous times, people would sometimes combine the two :— they’d use a colon and a dash together.

China: Population sinks for fourth year in a row

The continued downturn comes despite numerous measures introduced by the Chinese government to encourage child-rearing a decade on from the end of its notorious, long-time one-child policy.

But incentives including better financial support for parents — the government announced cash subsidies of 3,600 yuan ($500) per child to families in July 2025 and tax breaks for kindergartens, daycares and matchmaking services — have failed to have the desired effect.

Nor has a 13% tax increase on condoms and other contraceptives, with the fertility rate estimated to have flatlined at 1 child per woman in her lifetime, far below the 2.1 rate that would maintain the size of China's population.

Crochet, Knitting, Nalbinding and Weaving: About Ravelry.com

I'm not a shill and this isn't an advertisement.

I was put off by the fact that you have to make an account on Ravelry to see anything, which is why it took me so long to start using it.

But it really is the best archive of patterns and advice for literally everyone. It's community-driven with I don't even know how many folks sharing patterns for free, with whole active forums to ask any question, and ways to organize favorites.

I know I sound like a shill. I just fucking love ravelry.

Trump's Greenland tariffs prompt calls for unprecedented EU counter-measures

All the countries, already subject to tariffs of 10% and 15%, have sent small numbers of military personnel to Greenland.

Cyprus, holder of the rotating six-month EU presidency, summoned ambassadors to an emergency meeting in Brussels on Sunday, which EU diplomats said was due to start at 5 p.m. (1600 GMT).
