Play games with your neighbor to sink even lower! Canada rules!

When are people going to learn that exports aren't even good. The export market just gets a lot of play in politics because of concentrated interests. Exporters lobby. Politicans present arguments to justify what they are doing for exporters. That becomes political rhetoric. Generations later people actually believe it.

Countries with high exports don't have a great quality of life. Exports don't improve the quality of life people living there. It increases work and lowers real wages as often as not. It just makes exporter's rich. Did British people actually benefit from the opium wars? Do Chinese workers have physical prosperity matching their level of productivity?

Exporters have convinced countries that money is more valuable than goods. Countries print money.

This is why the tariffs don't actually hurt Canada but are just a self-own for the US. It hurts Canadian exporters. But who cares. Now Canadians get to enjoy those products. If a few jobs are lost momentarily, they are replaced by jobs serving the domestic market.

The paradox of tolerance

Hilter was initially intolerant to those who were intolerant of the rich. National Socialism was universally unpopular for an entire generation. But it flipped and gained massive universal appeal in the shadow of a bloody communist initiated civil war.

You can't preach tolerance while being intolerant of people who happen to have more money than you, just like you can't claim to be tolerant while being intolerant of those with more melanin than you. It's all relative. No one has zero money and very few have zero melanin. But anyone who has more than me is a bad guy is not a very tolerant position.

Anyone reading this is in the 10 percentile globally. It's like light blacks being racist to dark blacks (which is a real thing).

Do you think trump croaked?

Calling it. He did not. Source: People actually invested in knowing this would know. That includes traders on PolyMarket. All political markets are pretty flat since people started talking about this.

It is possible given your evidence that something medical has happened, but that doesn't automatically mean death.

Never again

It's true. That box has the utility of the highest utility cable in it. Which means it's a lot. Worth taking up space under a bed you aren't using. Anti-horder culture goes too far. It's more complicated than dogmatically throwing away everything or keeping everything. Don't throw away things with real utility. Civilization is built on accumulated utility in durable goods.

Texas Prevents People From Owning More Than 6 Dildos. Now Lawmakers Want to Ban Sex Toys at Walmart.

Neo-puritanism needs to die. I'm getting excited because I think humanity is just generally getting fed up with control. We're done with this shit.

At least none of these people should be violent. They can have their views. But law is always violent. So it has no business being an extension of anyone's sexual views. If you violently impose your sexual perspective on others you are as good as a rapist in my book.

Exercise doesn't lose weight. Weight is 99% controlled by diet. Exercise will make you not feel like shit so you don't use food as a dopamine hit. Which is why moderate exercise is better for weight loss. If your workout is making you feel like shit, that might be good for fitness and performance, but it still won't lose weight faster, and now you are eating more to support recovery.

So there are two pathways exercise can impact weight.

Exercise -> psychology -> diet -> weight
Exercise -> calorie consumption -> weight

The first one just happens to be more impact because the second one does almost nothing at all. Any useful pathway has to hit diet because that's 99% of weight (at least of the factors you have control over).

Cloudflare took down our website after trying to force us to pay $120000 within 24h

Right. And if you depend on them for your logic with cloudflare functions you will never be able to migrate to another CDN.

Never let a vender do anything for you beyond standardized features. That's why a "selling point" if we go with this guy we can do this... never makes sense. Because if option B can't do it also you wouldn't want to do "this", and you should probably implement it in a more old-school way.

TikTok surrenders to Israeli censorship

And Donald Trump saying "We destroyed your business so we should get half of it" is a very scary precedent. You know that's what the Israeli settlements do. The will burn the olive groves of neighboring land owners and then say, your land is worthless, sell it to us for a quarter of it's original value. You are now in ruin you will need the cash. They will often do it in the night, but I saw video evidence once of an altercation where they were openly burning a farmer's field in the day time right in front of him. But there was an IDF soldier ready to shoot the farmer if he tried to defend his fields physically. An entire family's future going up in smoke because someone else wants a deal on buying land not by producing anything of value themselves but by destroying things.

In a lot of ways TikTok is an American company. To operate here it has to be structured and registered in the US. It just has foreign investment. If they can do it to TikTok (single out a company) they can do it to American companies. They just have to find some secondary reason to dislike you. Is Lemmy next if we say Free Palestine on here? All so that Israel can have their Labensraum.

The shortest distance

Reply in thread

Wow. I can't believe my perspective of the world is that distorted. It makes me want to only look at it in 3D. If we've all mainly looked at Mercator projections our whole lives our sense of where everything is relative to everything else and what direction is completely off.

People complain about the proportional sizing of Mercator but the sense of direction it gives us is completely broken. I think the average person knows it's off and people think there is an error factor to consider that a really straight like might be a little squiggly. But nope. This made me realize the Mercator gives pretty much zero accurate sense of direction if real distance is involved.
