Luanti 5.17.0 released!

it takes some getting used to on how the fuel/cooking system in AoM works

For smelting I almost can accept it, though it still feels a bit odd how ungenerous the fuel is compared to hand-mining stone and unlimited durability (normal) tools. Making charcoal is worse, the firepit has no in/out label like others so I can only assume I hit some hidden inventory input cap and wasted a bunch of wood. Either that, or making charcoal that way is only a side-effect?

I'm always running out of coal/torches, even got to the point of making lanterns but I don't think they cover much more area. The worn lantern is neat, but doesn't last that long for what it does.

Also it's weird to have at least 3 different ways to cook things and then still making soup just by crafting it.

It's a bit of tonal whiplash trying those one-after-the-other (especially funny that Repixture has hunger but seemingly no sprinting, AoM is the opposite).

I like a lot of ways AoM does things, though I don't really like the fuel/cooking system (charcoal esp.) nor how they handle block movement (pistons esp., though disappointing that ropes/chains/block-welder don't work via the gate system AFAICT, and can only place 1 chain with node placer).

I stopped eating junk food several years ago. I just learned pizza tacos exist. Somebody tell me they aren't as good as they look, please.

I've done similar things with pan-roasted vegetables (some mix* of zucchini, onion, carrot, celery, red bell or jalapeno, mushroom (roughly that order for most-to-least used) lid is used on-and-off). I'll throw pepperoni bits in at the end to brown a bit.

If I'm lazy I'll just add sauce after plated, sometimes cheese in the pan (not long enough to cause a mess), or throw it all in a tortilla and cook it again in an old electric grill (easier to dip it in sauce instead, too).

A few times I've pre-soaked pasta noodles in a 28oz bowl, microwaved them, drain then brown the noodles a bit in the pan with everything else and transfer it back to the noodle bowl and layer in the other pizza ingredients (w/further microwaving, plate-as-lid).

* usually 2-3 things, though I've done just zucchini+sauce before

Yeah, I think for me it (many of Luanti's games) reiterates MC's aspects more than I'd like. (aside from the completely non-MC games, which can be hit-or-miss IMO)

This probably could be fixed, though it's a somewhat-specific laundry list of things (one is less inventory management due to clutter) so I imagine it's unlikely someone else will. I lack motivation, especially lacking a starting point. Although Luanti does seem like it's probably easier to create mods/games for (assuming I haven't missed something with MC, unless you could count data packs but I was gone before that made it to JE).

this year

And one post earlier (2025-12-20) that the image likely could be about:

NVIDIA 590 driver drops Pascal and lower support

Install nvidia-580xx-dkms from the AUR

Impact: Updating the NVIDIA packages [without manually changing to AUR packages] on systems with Pascal, Maxwell, or older cards will fail to load the driver, which may result in a broken graphical environment.

It's absolutely true. And that my outdated Arch system is likely still more fresh than Debian.

That said yeah I would like something that can update itself whenever without breaking*, certainly if it expects me to update frequently. And manual interventions (ideally used for things that actually have a choice/fix, not just what ends up being a pasted command or two) should be a warn-step/update-blocker (depending on situation).

Though what the image is probably about (2025-12-20, nVidia 10-series turned legacy, legacy driver put onto AUR) is a bad situation in its own right particularly later when the AUR issues started happening. And it is really an update-or-don't (or get an AMD card somehow) issue.

Other distros likely do solve the issue of updating, though from what I can see aren't as good with packaging (dependency handling, lacking optional dependencies) and package availability. Which can be worked around somewhat too, but still needs more trial/input.

Annoyances are also multiplied for me by having non-fiber internet (also shared).

* TBC I also mean the act of updating itself (outdated keys etc), not just the outcome

Nintendo.

Not just crushing fan games, but also issues with the Smash bros community, pricing and availability, eshops shutting down (+needing to buy those games again on new consoles or it's not even available at start), stick drift, fan content policy, also Youtube strikes/claims (both newer for specific reasons and an entire era for let's plays in general). 20 years of content removed from Gmod.

And no this isn't about Japanese law, they choose to be this way.
