What's a good earworm song to inflict on someone?

My wife keeps singing music from Into the Woods. It's a fine musical, and I'm a fan of it, but she's getting the songs such in my head.

I need ammunition to fight back with.

What's a good song to play that I can't get stuck in her head?

Sorry to go nuclear on your wife. Make it through the chorus of this song (mmm bop) one time and it's just about guaranteed earworm. In the words of Mr. Miyagi "If do right, no can defend."

I'm probably screwed just by thinking of the song to recommend it to you. 😁

You have so many relationships in this life

Only one or two will last

You go through all the pain and strife

Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast

You could've simply type "Jitterbug!" to plant this into our collective brains.

Pompeii by Bastille. Not so much the song but the day-day-oh, day-oh chant that runs under it.

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye. It took me years to get rid of it. I am in danger simply talking about it here.

Speaking of Day-oh though, the Banana Boat Song made famous by Harry Belafonte and also its appearance in Beetlejuice is a mid tier earworm. It all depends on how evil you're feeling.

Edit: 10 imaginary points if you spot what I had to fix.

It's 'Eheu!' and it means some variation of 'Oh no' or 'Alas' or even 'Oh shit!' in Latin.

…goddammit

If you thought the Gotye version was catchy, the ska-punk cover of Somebody by Half Past Two is even more so. Listen to it at your own peril.

I could be brown, I could be blue, I could be violet sky, I could be purple, I could be hurtful, I could be anything you like

Dragostea din te (might not be spelling that right but it's iconic enough that it should pop right up when searched).

Also blue by Eiffel 65, the party rock anthem or crazy frog. No lyrics but still catchy is something like Sandstorm.

Eeeeeeevil Betty?

No, I just find the movie Kung Pow: Enter the Fist to be pretty amusing.

Had to ask! There's a dude on Bluesky with your exact icon that I kinda dig.

If you can find a loop of the first few seconds before the lyrics of VengaBoys We LikeTo Party, that's diabolical IMO.

Otherwise, that song is, IMO, such a good earworm.

4

The worst earworms are when you dont really know the words. If you dont have kids I recommend Danny Go.

Danny Go is so weird because it sets off all of my kids slop sensors but it's actually pretty decent. Gets the kids moving, it's generally fine content wise, doesn't overdo the cuts between shots or have too much going on on screen to destroy the kids' attention span, but my gosh its stylized like so many slop channels I have to double-take every time

5

Yeah it rubbed me that way at first for sure. Ive come around, though. From what i understand they started it for their son, who recently passed.

The "hyper" videos drive me nuts but hey, can't really fault them for finding a way to make money off the same thing twice I suppose.

4

that has genuine qualities to it. Banana phone is demon spawn made of pure crap.

2

Superfreak by Rick James. In fact, I use it to knock out other songs trying to establish a beachhead in my brain.

3

Caramba - Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot
Be aware this is not a regular earworm, this is a nuclear option. I don't know when I first heard this but every so often it climbs back from the deep, deep hole in my memories I have thrown it down and assaults me at 3am.

4

Pretty much anything by Elton John, especially Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

It'll drive you mad

Copacabana. I've had it for about 8 years. Drives my husband crazy that i can't stop singing it.

This is the song that doesn’t end, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was, and they’ll continue singing it forever just because…

The ending of Lamb Chop's Play-Along. That has cursed me for 30+ years.

I still get Suck My Dog's Dick stuck in my head regularly, mostly when my boss is micromanaging lmao.

Absolute lyrical genius.

This was a brutal ear worm for me for a few weeks

That's very nice of you, that you don't want it to stick.

Not sure they're good ones though, but having a daughter who loves singing, the recent ones are a few ones from kpop demon hunters and popular from Wicked. But really any song will stick if you just keep singing it incessantly...

Someone mentioned pogo, so I'll add that my wife and myself had this one stuck for ages, even if it's not your typical kind of song. https://youtu.be/a4NCnH7RPZY

2

Just start humming the Mr. Sandman jingle (bum bum bum) and your work is done

2

The best are no word tunes

The limbo song for example. Hum/whistle that shit for 10-20 minutes at work and watch by the end of the day at least half your coworkers are humming it.
