Solved or not, what games have great detailed mysteries/conspiracy theories that you can completely miss?

Not games with a convoluted mysterious story, per se, but if it's something that re-contextualizes the story somehow, that's the kind of thing I'm interested in.

Inspired by my digging into the FF:06:5B mystery in my current playthrough of Cyberpunk. There are all sorts of weird codes and ciphers, bizarre rituals you have to do at certain places and times, and vague clues in weird places. One clue was even in an update to The Witcher 3, apparently. Based on my reading, the community found a sort of conclusion to this one, but it really doesn't clearly explain things (though it fairly strongly hints at Night City 2077 being a simulation, and us not really playing V, but rather whoever is breaching the system at the title screen).

Just a strange thought my freakish brain churned up based on the conspicuous absence of symbiote pouches on the Hak'tyl in 7x10 "Birthright"...

Somewhere out there, especially after the tau'ri started integrating the galaxy more (and distributing tretonin), there is a human man with a jaffa partner who probably asked if he could put his snake in their pouch.

...Sorry for inflicting this psychic damage on you all. Hallowed are the Ori.

I got more mystery bundle leftover Steam keys for y'all.

I had a few left over from the last giveaway, and I threw a small mystery bundle in while I was picking up some Warhammer 40k games. Rogue Trader and Mechanicus are so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

To enter, link me your favorite mind-bending or existentially horrifying short story and name the game you want. First come, first serve. I try to keep the list updated as games are claimed

Anything from flash fiction to a novella, just give my brain something weird to chew on.

Rogue Trader is my first Warhammer 40k game and it has enthralled me. What other great games in the 'verse have I been missing out on?

Through a little research, I believe RT is the only RPG currently, which is unfortunate because I think it's a great way to soak up the setting.

I have my eye on Mechanicus, because it looks very XCOM influenced. I like the smaller-scale squad-based tactics much more than the army-scale grand strategy/RTS style.

Any other suggestions? I know because of what the original game is, the RTS ones are probably going to be the majority of the PC titles, but there seems to be some representation in just about any genre. I even saw an Ork dogfighting (planes) game.

My wife called Fonzie "Fonzo", and now I can't help but imagine Muppet Happy Days.

Obviously that means Gonzo plays Fonzie, breaks the jukebox worse when he hits it, then says something about "picking up chicks" and leaves with Camilla.

Kermit is probably Richie, Scooter is Potsie, and Fozzie is Ralph.

I haven't thought out the rest of the casting, but Ted McGinley should definitely come in as the token human to end out the bit.

I started playing WH40k Rogue Trader and I'm digging it, but I know virtually nothing of Warhammer. Any super basic world info I should know going in?

I know a little about Orks and their weird group psychic thing where painting their ships red to go fast really makes them faster, and their tech only works because they think it should. But then I guess Orks aren't even in this game.

I get that it's a violent, black-vs-grey universe. I think it's the originator of the term grimdark? The emperor is some immortal Mr House asshole who's worshipped as a god, which powers some of their tech and protects them from chaos via his psyker shit? And he's kind of a fascist, but it's that or bloody chaos?

Rogue traders seem like somewhere between a privateer and a baron, plundering tithes in their castle-ships and acting as an arm of the Imperium in backwater space?

There are more wizards than I expected. Not sure if these mechanicus dudes are pulling "Temples of Syrinx" thing, or they know how the tech works but not why so they worship it? Or if it's actually machine spirits?

Anything super foundational that I'm missing?

I inherited my dad's Quest 3S recently. What are some of your favorite single player or 1v1 games for it?

So far I've just been checking out free games to get a feel for the system, but it looks like I have a 3 month pass for Horizon+ ready to activate, so I can try some other stuff once I have an idea what to start with.

I've been having some fun with Ironstrike and War of Wizards so far. I like the concept of the virtual CCG in Cards & Tankards, though it does seem like it's going to try and bleed money like most "free" card battlers.

[Steam Keys Giveaway] Please turn my poor financial decision into your holiday fun!

I bought another Fanatical mystery pack when I was there getting Wildermyth. >_>

This was actually not a terrible pack for $4 and change, though it was all cheap indie titles.

For anyone curious about the pulls, I kept The Crackpet Show (splashes of Happy Tree Friends and Enter the Gungeon) and Tallowmere (a low-budget, goofy but somehow intriguing roguelike side-scroller).

The other ones don't seem like my thing, but look like they are pretty good for the right kind of fan.

Still left as of 1/3/26:

  • Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition
  • The Oil Blue: Steam Legacy Edition

(Sorry no links this time, I'm lazy.)
