I'm terrible at drawing, so I in fact cannot.

But I'll take this as an opportunity to experiment.

This looks like it might be the bottom of the mountain in the old game SkiFree

SkiFree

Damn. If someone told me then, that in the future you download and boot a whole OS (DOS) in the browser to run a few-KB game...

16

Wasnt really planning to draw tonight, but you know what, sure, Ill try something, Ive been needing something to distract me from my anxiety problems today anyway.

Thanks for the inspiration!

A group of Fn keys, lazing in the water.

not these days, I did once, but nowadays I have a lizard because they're a bit more interactive for a scaly animal.

10

I dunno if I’ve ever seen the super S without a pointy tip top and bottom before today

Has a look like you just caught it in the middle of making mischief!

How does it know whether the edges should be crisp (stars) or wiggly (everything else)?

3

Different tools in the program, the coloured marker always shakes around like the stars here (with the crisp diamond shape being an option for it), while the black wiggly lines all behave differently depending on the tool and how you draw the line.

Here's something I drew last week.

I never got around to really properly starting a game project I was making 9 years ago (gee, time flies) called The Great Adventure. In it you'd explore a tropical island! In the quit screen there was a message "the turtles bid you goodbye!"

Now the game was just a text-based thing written in Turbo Pascal for DOS, but this illustration here is what I had in mind.

50

Wow, I haven't thought about Turbo Pascal or Borland in such a long time! Thanks for triggering some happy memories. I bid the turtle goodbye back!

Not a new picture, in fact, a very old doodle, but i like threads like this because fuck AI

Ignore the fact that my fish look like peens, im very aware

41

Someone once told me “if you want to be good at art, try drawing things upside down”.

Here is an upside down apple that I flipped 180…

I dont really know how to draw beautiful pictures, or pianos for that matter

37

A piano outdoors is a beautiful thing & I like this image for it's simplicity - it makes you stop a moment :)

There was a subreddit that I really miss called something like "whatsthiscookiecutter", where people would post a cookie cutter they couldn't figure out. People would create all sorts of weird, random, and funny drawings.

I'd love to, but I was just a lurker. I have the artistic talent of a potato :(

10

All the more reason to moderate it and find weird cookie cutters and have other people draw.

9

Something I did some time ago, but a bright image for dank winter days :)

This comment section has so much amazing drawings, man.

21

I got a much better response than anticipated. I love it! Ive been trying to make an effort to contribute to Lemmy instead of just lurking. I also started making some small contributions to Lemmy and Lemmy.world.

I love it here, thanks for your participation everyone!

Oh thats unfortunate, I think you should use one of the shit nuggets as a crayon for your masterpiece.

Jokes aside, I hope your day turns around and you find some beauty in it

5

the beauty i am finding is that the person who turned it off (by her own admission so she could see how quickly i jumped to the conclusion that it was her that turned it off. except we were all right there moving boxes so like, i am not sure she was thinking things through) she is someone else's problem for the next foreseeable future. goodbye! don't let the ass kicking machine kick you in the ass on your ass out!

What's everyone using to draw? I shouldn't be suprised that Lemmy users are overwhelming choosing digital art. Personally, I used the Sketchbook app with a pressure sensitive stylus.

10

I use Krita, and a Wacom Intuos tablet. (Currently on Windows. ...I have confirmed both 100% work on Linux tho.)

7

Pencil, watercolour, then a random mix of biro, gel pen, fountain pen for details

People aren't looking for skill here, this isn't an art community. Don't let your lack of skills stop you from trying. Even a stick figure is good enough.

8

I love how expressive this is, and how it juxtaposes the authors main thesis against an elegant visual counterpoint.

9

You just drew something & I love it, creating something doesn't have to meet mainstream standards, the act of creation is at the heart of art :)

3
lemmy.world

I honestly can't. They tell me drawing, like playing an instrument, just takes patience and time. I can play multiple instruments, but my drawing skills have been the same since I was about 8.

I once drew a picture of Judge Dredd, that came out half-decent when I was 12. However it was mostly traced and took me hours.

8

I'm the same as you, haven't really improved at drawing since I was a little kid. But this is Lemmy, not Reddit. People here aren't looking for perfection, your drawing skills are more than enough for this thread.

It's of course fine to not want to draw something, but don't hold back just because you think your skills aren't good enough.

9

Thats the beauty of art though, its just a thing humans do, you dont have to be "good at it".

The commodification of art has made us forget what being human means

3

Arg....im so lame. I love Lemmy and want to respond with a doodle, but im lousy at this. Any advice would be appreciated....

8

Just scrawl something. Anything. Doesn't really matter and that is the point. It is just about stating that you can do something, by yourself. Do a tetris like shape. Write something and add some unnecessary curves or angles to each letter. Don't care about the what. Care about the trying.

12

Sorry for all the deleted post spam.. Mobile app was freaking out. Anyways here's one from Sketchbook app on my phone with stylus:)
