Voyager but the lack of the language field is not great. Posting with Voyager gets you less reach

I’m brand new to Lemmy and grabbed voyager to get started, can you elaborate? I’d be grateful as i’m still a noob.

The app still doesn’t support the localisation needed to get optimal discovery on Lemmy. Lemmy has a language field for each post which Voyager leaves blank. Lots of users have a setting “only show me posts in English” which then filters out posts where the language is set to It’s been a “feature request” that’s been open for years.

You mean see through the profile lies by seeing people's actual usernames, not screen names, while also seeing if an account is less then a month old.

Summit and Interstellar are my two favorite's right now.

I second Summit.

I still have Sync because I transitioned with it from Reddit, but Summit is now my daily driver.

Boost (Android)

It was the best app for Reddit before. Now it's the best app for Lemmy.

41
lemmy.world

Mlem is awesome except I can’t make new posts as it freezes on me and can only comment… I think it’s the version of iOS I’m on.

2

Voyager. Don't remember why I stuck to this one, but the others I tried lacked some features I wanted.

20
lemmy.world

I like it because it is pretty much the Lemmy successor to Apollo for Reddit.

I'm using Jerboa, even though I saw what Blorp is like, and I'm preparing g to switch (just used to Jerboa UI)

Blorp dev here. We’d love to have you! Let me know if there is anything preventing you from switching that I can improve.

I can reply to someone, I can even tap the "quote" formatting button, but I can't select text to copy/paste! Very irritating, but maybe I'm just not doing it right...

1
lemmy.zip

This is fixed, but I haven’t released the update yet. The fix will go out in version 1.10.2. I’ll try and get that out in a week or so.

That's great news! No rush and don't overwork yourself, though. We can be patient...

2

Honestly knowing I have active users makes me feel less burnout. Since I don’t track user engagement, sometimes I wonder if people are still enjoying Blorp. A review, comment, or star on GitHub goes a long way.

  1. Touch zone on the back arrow of the media viewer is too small and I have to get out my electron microscope every time I want to go back to list view
  2. Media viewer doesn’t support touch functions like double tap to zoom
  3. i want to mark as read on scroll in the c/all view (or really any community list view
  4. When writing comments, there are some inconsistencies in capitalization of the first word (see the I in #3 that wasn’t capitalized)
  5. Just noticed a bug when creating list items. Create an item, hit the carriage return to create a new item. Tap delete. The list number is removed but the cursor is in a sub item of the previous list item. Tap delete again. The first list element is deleted and your text is moved out of the list

These are rather nitpicky items. I use Blorp every day and like it more than Voyager, Arctic and Mlem

1
lemmy.zip

I don’t mind nitpicky, but I appreciate labeling this as nice to have rather than a must. I’ll see what I can do, thanks!

1

Sorry, swipe down to exit is the gesture that doesn’t work in the media viewer. Double tap does zoom properly

1

I use Jerboa. It's closest to the app I used for Reddit (Joey) after a few tweaks.

Flat list of posts, small thumbnails on the side. Clean interface. Default sort is all top day.

lemmy.toldi.eu may not have a web frontend.

I get a 404 also, when trying to view the link in a browser.

Try using Voyager or other Lemmy client.

The link is to a post from the main and only dev of Eternity, saying they are stepping away from the upkeep of Eternity, posted in February 2025.

2

I'm on Voyager, but Android is sometimes a bit weird in that regard. However, not really surprising news. I have been an Eternity fan from the first second, but I noticed very soon development is very, very slow. At one point I switched to Voyager when the bugs got too many.

1
lemmy.world

Boost. Only problem I have is videos often only play in thumbnail and load infinitely when clicked on. Not that important for me though.

With Jerboa and Voyager there were a lot of small problems that just made the experience worse.

12
lemmy.dbzer0.com

I’d never looked at mine before now, apparently I’ve been banned from a couple communities for being an “anti-ai troll”, presumably for downvoting something at some point.

5

Theoretically you shouldn't be banned for things that happen outside a community unless it's very severely.

1

Blorp has a really nice UI both on Android and on web and it works with piefed too

3

Thunder. Cross-platform and it has a very nice uncluttered UI. Works with piefed too.

11

Jerboa. I find the UI very nice. Right around amount of info and density (i hate excessive padding), fully customizable colors, not 1 glitch

11

The only issue I ever experienced on Jerboa was gifs just not playing until you clicked on them and you never knew if something was supposed to be a gif or not.

5

Connect, but a recent update to the UI is quite annoying. Some text is quite small but not all the time, they added a giant banner at the top. It was fine before.

Nah not that I have ever noticed, I hmdont really change the settings though either.

I use Boost. Not open-source, but the ads are non-intrusive to me and it just feels like home.

8
piefed.social

Does blorp support showing crossposts the way that PieFed handles it? (Displaying comments from each community on the post).

2
lemmy.zip

Blorp dev here. It doesn’t. I totally understand that many Lemmy communities can feel too quiet, but I never fully understood the consolidating comments thing. I believe Lemmy and PieFed both associate posts based on url, not post body, title, etc. Only the url has to match.

Now imagine you had a conservative community and a liberal community, and they both shared the same news article. However, one community was expressing support for the article while the other was expressing disapproval. Then in the comments, people were saying “I agree with this take”. How would you know if they were agreeing with the conservative or liberal community’s perspective of the article?

3
Natanaelreply
infosec.pub

If communities could mutually express they want a combined view or could be useful, and you could mark comments with which community they're in (but each whole reply chain would need to be in the same community)

2

Multi communities are coming to Lemmy V1 and already exist in PieFed as feeds. But I don’t think communities opt into those.

Eternity. I didn't like Voyager, too many bells and whistles.

Eternity is pretty simple, no user avatars, allows faster reading of actual content.

I like reading other peoples perspectives her, and Eternity does not seem to be recieving regular bug-fixes. So many Voyager Enjoyers that I may give it another try.

6
thelemmy.club

A fellow Eternity user!!

I wonder if there is a third.

Eternity isn't totally dead but it also was never truly alive (in a dev sense), but I love the dev(s), they help me waste many hours.

I still love it despite it never implementing a lot of basics. Especially the UI, and how ez it is to share links (post or main link from the post) or save pics to a folder.

4

It's the only lemmy app I have installed on my phone but tbh I usually only come here from firefox on a proper computer.

3
lemmy.world

Are you me? This is exactly what I needed too because I was on Sync for years now and had no idea development stopped. Started to notice a lot of small issues here and there with it and finally saw there's been no updates on almost 2 years.

I tried Voyager and I liked the gestures for votes and being able to customize things pretty well. Also trying out Boost right now and I like how familiar it is to me since I used it on Reddit, but now I'm missing the gestures.

The developer of sync releases a big update once in awhile with complete silence in between. it's always been like that

4

While I don't need constant updates, the app is only a little over 2 years old now, has been 1y9m since the last update, and has in-app purchases of up to $100 to support it. Going silent is fine but "always been like that" when this is gap of time for updates is unprecedented? I may come back if I hear it's been updated, but it's having problems as a result of updates to the instances I frequent.

1

Look into summit. I've tried jerboa and voyager. Wasn't a fan. They're clunky. Summit is no sync, but it's as close as I've found.

2

As a former Sync user of nearly 10 years, I've moved to Summit now. It's the closest to Sync of all the apps I tried.

5

Just discovered summit recently as well. So far it's alright. I miss the slickness of sync though. The polish remains unrivaled.

2

Boost for the longest time; but since I've been using Piefed, I mostly just use mobile Vivaldi/Firefox instead of an app (Boost still works with it; I just got used to using it over apps).

5

Yes, most of the Lemmy apps work with PieFed too. To varying degrees.

2

I was on Connect but then I moved to this piefed instance and switched to Summit

4

I was using connect, but it had this fun habit of burning through all of my ram and crashing every active app on my phone. I'm now using summit and it seems decent so far.

4
lemmy.world

Sync, what am I missing? I used bacon reader on Reddit and haven't had too many issues with sync. But I also don't look past the first result when I search a store.

4

The developer seems MIA, again. It's been a while since the last update.

10
fedia.io

My browser.

It seems like every time someone mentions Lemmy apps, someone says that one app is better for one thing but another app is better for something else. Plus, if the unpaid, overworked dev pulls a disappearing act, what used to be a great app becomes outdated garbage. Screw that.

4

Yeah I main firefox for piefed, but I also keep jerboa with a lemmy.world account handy to check out what posts look like on another platform.

2

Jumping between Boost and Summit.

Speaking of this, are there any PieFed users who have tried uploading images as a post through an app? Have you noticed that doing so counts toward your 50 MB upload quota, while uploading images on desktop does not count toward the quota?

4

Having tried almost all apps for Lemmy, Summit is the best. Not only is it feature rich, it also let's me view some content from instances that don't load for me on other clients. And this apparently only happens on Lemmy.zip.

4

Used Jerboa until it stopped working, and have been on Connect since. But recently, Connect is also breaking a lot of random things in their updates without adding much of value that I can see.

Any good PieFed apps that are similar to RIF? I've been thinking of moving there but I don't know if there are any good apps.

3
slrpnk.net

Jerboa still works tho? But it will never support piefed, so I'm also on the lookout for another RIF-like app. Maybe we should pop over to tildes and try to convince talklittle to make one.

8

Can you just pop on into Tildes now? The reason I am here and not there was because, at least 2 years ago, it was invite only and couldn't get an invite.

IDK wtf is up with Jerboa, but it hasn't been loading posts beyond 1 page for months.

2

I have tildes, I'll see if I have invites to give. But, uh, I like it a lot less than the thready fedi.

2

I used sync for Lemmy and Reddit, but switched to eternity like 6 months ago.

Very similar layout options & oled black night mode.

Doesn't work: Spoilers Gifs & Gboard gif search

Everything else is fine.

3

I used to use (paid) Boost but it has more bugs than an entomology lab and I'm just fucking sick of it.

Recently switched to Voyager, and it's not as feature rich, but the features are much more stable.

3

Boost. Used to use it for Reddit, then they disabled the APIs or whatever.

Anyway, it's excellent. Highly recommend.

3

I use the Website, on my computer. I don't use Lemmy (and use no other social at all) on the phone.

3

I've gotten comfortable with Jerboa, but also I don't get to see GIFs and stuff people post, and I'm not sure if that's a limitation of the app? I really should try some of the others though.

3

Mlem dev here. We aren't associated with the Lemmy developers :) We set up ![email protected] shortly after the Reddit API Exodus, and chose to host our community on .ml because it advertised itself as a FOSS-centered instance. We've considered moving to a self-hosted instance but haven't got around to it yet.

1

eternity.

it's a bit broken in some places, but it still works just fine for my shitposting.

2

I prefer Thunder But sometimes images and other content just straight up fail to load, and then I end up using Voyager again.

1

I tried Thunder, and Connect, and Summit and Voyager and Boost. Nothing matched the experience I preferred with Sync, but it's clearly abandoned by the developer and has many compatibility issues and bugs. So I signed up with a PieFed instance and downloaded Blorp. It doesn't have quite as many features yet, but it's the closest to what I want...
