I think it's been 3 consecutive years now that ive been waiting on a deep sale for some titles, but they have yet to reach lower than 10 bucks (max I'm willing to pay).
Some of them aren't particularly old releases so I dont mind waiting more:
That doesn't hurt BG3, and Larian has been adding free content to BG3 over time, so really the longer you wait the better it'll be. Still, it's definitely worth the price. It's a pretty long game, and good for the entire duration. Its also pretty replayable.
The fact that Tropico 5 was NOT the free game from epic today along with several other different ones not on the list previously should tell you that this list was fake
Depends on what you're looking for. I'd confidently recommend against buying it if you're looking for an action game. There's at least 10 better, cheaper candidates on Steam.
I remember Stranglehold being mind-blowing for its time. I'm pretty sure I had a physical copy that is long gone, but 5 bucks is not much to see how it has held up.
Also strongly considering breaking my early access rule to check out Jump Space. The main thing holding me back is trying to get a few friends to pick it up as I don't want the crew to just be me and a bot.
I highly recommend Jump Space if you can recruit your buddies! It's pretty similar in terms of gameplay feel to Deep Rock Galactic - team play is pretty rewarding, goofing off won't penalize you too hard. Worth every penny so far
I seem to already have all the deep discounts I‘d be interested in… I currently only buy 80%+ discounts (if anything) since experience has taught me that anything lower than this will get there again very soon, so I’m not missing out by skipping now. I have like 200 untouched games anyway so I‘d probably just be throwing more on the pile… Gifts for friends are in the cart tho
I'm getting a 4-pack of Tabletop Simulator. Not sure if that counts, since I already did that once—I have new people to try to rope into playing boardgames digitally with me, lol.
Maybe, sorta. But there are a zillion games it can't play, it's expensive AF ($42€/yr for premium), and it's not nearly as immersive since it's not actually a simulator.
It's a cool site if you just want to pop into a casual game, but not so great if I want to play something even medium heavy like Clank!
Edit: That looks aggressive... The game is called "Clank!"
You don't need premium membership to play premium-only games; you only need 1 person at the table to have a subscription and then everyone else can enjoy the game for free. There are usually tables open looking for players, and if there is no open table to join, free participants can even put out a request for a subscriber to make a new table for strangers to join.
You can get 1 month of premium membership at a time for every 100 gift points that you acquire (which gradually expire if left unused). You can gain 5 gift points for winning for your first time at any game, so you can even rig it with someone else to just win at Battleship, Chess, etc. You can also acquire more gift points by contributing to tutorials, wiki entries per game (rules, strategies, etc.), or I think even filing bug reports or improvement ideas per game that get approved by the developers.
TTS and Tabletopia are 100% manual so you must already know the rules really well per game, whereas BGA holds your hand through all legal moves, so my circle of friends and I have even used it to learn new games blind (even though they also often have a tutorial). It also has a note system so you can type notes for yourself to remember things between rounds, if you choose to play in the optional turn-based mode (make your move whenever you're next able to, versus real-time in which all players must be online simultaneously).
Loads of games in TTS are fully scripted. As both a BGA and TTS fan, I still lean towards TTS. It’s more fun and supports way more types of play and with the Community Workshop, there’s so many fun custom games on there too.
There's also a digital adaptation of Clank, though I haven't tried it myself. I know the same developers made Root Digital for Leder Games and that adaptation is well-received.
I know this isn't all _that _ helpful but for me what worked was finally forcing myself to start playing a couple of the games in my backlog. It made me realize that I can really enjoy a lot of the games I already own which decreased my desire to buy more games.
I bought it for Switch years ago after being peer pressured from the massive amount of glazing and regretted it. It's a good game, I just don't like roguelikes. The constant "I hate roguelikes but this was the best game I've played in years!" comments pushed me to do it.
I am actually among the "don't like roguelikes but this was an amazing game" crowd. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I can't say exactly what it is, but something about how they nailed the roguelike formula is perfect. Always new dialogue to unlock, new things to buy, resources to farm, prophecies to fulfill, there was just so much perfectly aligned for me. Probably helps that I also love Greek mythology.
Hades is definitely right down my alley, even though I'd never played anything quite like it before. It's one of the games that reignited my enjoyment for gaming, a hobby that I mostly set aside for about 20 years. It's one of the very few games I can fire up when I have a bit of spare time and even though I've played through the levels a hundred times, it's still so much fun.
I've tried to get into Hades 2 and so far it hasn't captured that same level of enjoyment. I think I prefer the relative simplicity of the original and the fact that it takes much less time to start feeling powerful in the original. Much more rewarding. Of course, my opinion on that might change.
I put it down after about 20 hours, then came back after a few months and 100% it. Honestly that I gotta escape 10 times slog was demoralizing but worth it and very gratifying
If anybody is into vr, a lot of vr stuff is on sale right now... And keep in mind, when the steam frame comes out next year, you'll probably want some games to play.
Honestly like not-Anal said, it usually doesn't make a ton of sense. However, I've found that not all sales are created equal, and sometimes some sales are much better priced, even compared to later sales. You really have to pay attention, though.
For example, if a dev is active or WILL be active (this is where the guesswork/gambling comes in), the price of the game could go UP. I see it all the time with early access games or games that get popular. Or even with real goods, like cars or other collectables where they become more popular and either resale goes up or the manufacturer realizes they can sell it for more, or outright increases the value of the product.
Another example is when devs play fuck-fuck games with sales, trying to draw in more attention, and it works. This happens often with undiscovered games, which, in the VR space, does happen pretty often. A good place to pay attention to is the Humble Bundles, but I know this isn't exactly relevant to the steam sales, themselves.
And also just like in real life, and similar with devs playing fuck-fuck games with sales and not all sales being created equal, sometimes certain dates are meaningful to the game or the devs. Like if the dev has a case of brainrot and on June 7th they offer a particularly good sale, or the VR sale happens once a year, or Black Friday or something.
Additionally, shopping for games can actually be a bit time consuming, so even if the prices don't go down further, finding games ahead of time can actually be rewarding. Buying your first VR headset or a headset with new features and having no games and having to shop can be a real bummer. Imagine buying a brand new car and having no gas/power until later in the year, and then also having to get it one gallon/liter/watthour at a time. With VR games, some of them do just crash in price. But usually, almost all VR games find their equilibrium in price eventually, since the community is generally all enthusiasts who want to see the community and technology grow healthy, myself included.
And that very last point sort of applies to the previous ones, and also applies across VR in general (minus a handful of devs and won't last if the platform gets popular since it attracts money-ghouls).
Yup, I’m super tempted to start stocking up on cheap VR games in anticipation for the Frame, but I need to see the final price and be 100% sure I’m going for it before I commit to games that I can’t otherwise play.
Highly depends on your vr experience and what type of games you've played.
Horror on VR is on a completely different level.
But some games that I put in a good pile are:
Arken age, Fujii, Zero Caliber, Contractors, Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Vermillion, Kayak VR mirage, Until You Fall, After The Fall, Half-Life Alyx, Down the Rabbit Hole, Vanishing Realms, Anthro Heat, and Google Earth VR.
It's hard to find well rounded games that are also fleshed out. You generally get one or the other. H3 (hotdogs horseshoes and hand grenades) is one example, where the guns are top tier (and oh god the mods are so extensive) and the dev is STILL releasing updates weekly, even though the game came out in like 2016 or something, which is basically the first rush of VR. H3 basically has no story or continuity, and is very much a sandbox game. The dev adds in this and that and maybe a new gamemode or map or feature, but that game is really what you make of it. And I've dropped a few hours in, heh.
Arken Age, on the other hand, is kind of the opposite. That's a somewhat linear explorer adventure game with a story (it's also a much newer game... with more Meta money), and while it has SOME depth, it's very much NOT a sandbox game. It's closer to a Zelda game with guns and swords. Not my personal favorite, but still fun.
The Kayak one is cool, but feels like a big dev trying to make a money grab, until you realize it's a very small indie studio of only a few people trying to pay bills and just charge too much for dlc because they're probably too young or overvalue their work.. i personally like their dlc, even if they're really overpriced. Like very overpriced. I think they're charging like $20 for each map that should be 10$ for all of the existing maps. And the progression feels live-service paced (slow). But it really is nice to just sit down in VR and kayak around in a beautiful, and sometimes exciting world.
I could talk about this for a long, long time. I'll try to wrap it up.
Half life alyx is great, but VR has conventions that are developing and coming into popularity over time. An example of what I mean is this:
On a modern pistol, you have several controls. You have the gun itself, the magazine, the magazine release, you have the slide, the slide release, and the trigger. Which buttons do you map to what? The trigger and magazine release are pretty easy, but what about grabbing the slide vs grabbing the pistol itself? What about adding on a sight? What about a scope? What if you want to zero in or adjust the scope? Can you two-hand hold the pistol? Can you partial out the magazine to check how many rounds are in it? Can you add in individual rounds to a partial magazine? Are magazines unique or can you just drop a mag and release and not waste rounds? How far in do you have to load a magazine before it pulls itself the rest of the way in? Can you manually cock a hammer?
Now, what if you have a double barrel, side by side shotgun? Or fire modes?
You get the point. It's a lot different in VR. If you play enough games, you definitely see the trends come and go.
Back to half life alyx, that game is really good, but it's a game from 2019, and technology and conventions can move FAST. Some stuff catches on, other stuff gets forgotten, innovation usually keeps pushing.
I think a large part of VR right now is watching and being part of this insanely young medium figure itself out in ALL of the ways. What a time to be alive.
Oh! Another thing I've noticed, is that older VR games, especially ones funded by meta/oculus, liked to show trailers of players superimposed over in-game footage. It's fucking awful and cringe, but I do understand where they're coming from, trying to show off a very new technology to the masses that HEY, THIS IS VR AND YOU HAVE ACTUAL PRESENCE. Or currently, where trailers try to show off the game by recording players ACT out stuff in game by flailing or physically reacting to stuff in game. Like shielding your face from an explosion or flailing your arms when flying through the air. Unfortunately, it looks just pre-rendered motion and once the potential buyer figures that out, it's like realizing you're being lied to and instantly erodes trust. But at the same time, you have to advertise to NEW vr players, who honestly DO react like that a lot of the time. Even I sometimes still flinch or fight aggressively in games that have you use swords. Like Until You Fall.
Oh, I also forgot to add Into the Radius. Those two games (1&2) are deeply flawed, but really fun stalker-type games. Best in class 100%. They're both somehow still being developed. The mod scene in the first game is much better, but the second one is coming along nicely, and recently just had an update that added in gun PARTS. Like uppers, lowers, trigger assemblies, barrels. Real h3 mods type stuff. But all in a world of horror and supernatural anomalies and death and shooting guns. I'm holding off playing more for the devs to finish the games, which may take a year or two. They're fun now, but they keep adding in big patches that change the game a lot and it messes with the challenge continuity for me.
Ugh. I need to cut off my spiel.
Uh, tldr: buy hl:alyx and anthro heat, and don't sleep on Google Earth vr because it's free. Oh, arizona sunshine is a finished product and worth actually playing through. Sorry for my adhd.
My plan to work on my backlog this fall has utterly failed. Instead I've not been playing any games at all for the past month and a half, instead just working on a mod for STALKER Anomaly. Consequently I know in my heart of hearts that the right thing to do is not spend any money this sale. However, I am still looking at:
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was fun. It did evoke feelings of nostalgia for me, since Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was one of my favorite games back in the late 90s (tied with Resident Evil) and still one of my favorites of all time. I'm personally not a huge fan of the art style and it does lack a bit of polish here and there, but overall good especially at 75% off. Hope you enjoy it.
None of my wishlist games were under 10€ so I skipped all of the deals there. Instead I bought (or put to the cart as I wanna sleep over my decisions) lots of DLCs to Total War Warhammers, Powerwash Simulator and other games I already own and like to play.
One new game I want to purchase is the Case of the Golden Idol which looks really interesting
Good idea, the Total War Warhammer 3 DLC are appealing (when you just want to own all those factions), but base price is just too steep for individual expansions
Doom 2016 was my game for last year and into early this year. For what it's worth, I enjoyed it quite a bit once I got into it. I tried to start it a few times and that didn't work out, but then suddenly last winter, it all just clicked.
I had also tried Doom Eternal, and that's not my thing. Doom 2016 lets you play at your own pace, your own style, and make your own choices on how to play ... mostly. Doom Eternal you basically have to play it the way THEY want you to play and use the weapons THEY want you to use and if you don't then you're in for an unfun struggle. Doom 2016 isn't really like that, in my opinion and experience.
One of the yt gamers I watch made a comment about how by the end of Doom the final boss isn't the mastermind, it's you. The demons are trying to survive the doomslayer as you rip and tear
Might be time to grab Psychonauts 2 at -85% (C$12). The first game was great. Not too much else I've been tracking is at a price I'd go for at the moment, though I haven't looked past my wishlist for now.
Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is usually around $20 and seems worth it at that price and it is at $10 which seems like a genuinely great deal for a city builder/transit game.
Workers & Resources is such a cool idea for a game, but man it's intense. You don't just paint roads, you have to buy the machinery and materials, and pave them manually. As just one example
Probably talking about the 1, 2 & 3 remastered set that just came out as I just grabbed it too. Original trilogy.
You can switch between the original and remastered graphics instantly, at any time, by pressing start. You can also use tank controls if you're a masochist
Detroit is a great game if you like cinematic, story-driven experience. It's like a Choose-Your-Own Adventure book, in video-game form. Kind of like an interactive movie.
Hi-Fi Rush has been at $17.99 for about a week now, didn't know that the winter sale was live so I thought DekuDeals was lying to me and jumped on that purchase.
I grabbed a bunch of adventures over at GOG: Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard, The Last Door, Black Mirror, Quern, and newly rereleased JRPG classic Breath of Fire IV.
Okay, no spoilers, but I personally really liked Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard a fair bit. It was the first point and click adventures I've played, unless I'm mistaken, and it's amazing IMO.
No spoiler to a certain scene but my favorite line in the game comes from one of the many game overs and it's just the English voice actor for Finn kinda doing an angry adlibbing right before it happens. Absolute gem of dialogue.
As far as I can remember, yeah. They skipped me because I was mainly a console and flash game kid in a time when point and click adventure games were becoming less popular as a genre.
Edit:
Just realized the one Spy Fox and Pajama Man Sam games I played were point and click adventure games. So I'm wrong about BTEOG being the first ever. My memory failed me.
Vein. Bought a full copy today, been playing their free demo version. Still in development, but potentially a great game for people who enjoy crafting survival. You explore and scavenge for components you need to build supplies to survive. Everything can be broken down with the right tools. It's not a fast-pace bloody hack and slash game, but more focused on building, occasionally dealing with zombies that want to eat your brains.
Have not tried it, but there are supposed to be multiplayer options. Not sure how well it works, sounds like there are plans to fix bugs (whatever they may be) in the near future.
Picked up Eastern Exorcist. Got it for free for Android from epic but no gamepad support. So now I buy the Steam version for gamepad support. Solid game
I haven't bought anything yet, but I've been compiling a short list of mostly DRPG games like the old Might and Magics that I've been playing, specifically ones that'll work on the Deck nicely. It's a genre I loved when I was younger that's been rather missing from my modern collection.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
and/or
Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls
Legends of Amberland II
Operencia: The Stolen Sun
Songs of Conquest (not a DRPG, but a great-looking spiritual successor to Heroes of Might and Magic 3.)
And then on GoG, I might pick up a few real old ones, like Lands of Lore and/or Wizards & Warriors, but I don't think those will be good for steam deck even through Heroic.
I was really positively surprised by it! Picked it up two years ago and thought I’d spend a couple of hours in it. I’ve spent almost 200 hours in Appalachia by now - one of my favourite comfort games!
I like it a lot. It's not my favorite of the games, but I think it's a great game whether played in a public lobby or not. I do usually prefer a private lobby, but not always.
I got Fallout 4's DLC - primarily so I can play Fallout London. I also picked up X4: Foundations, and Fallout 76 as well. All were pretty heavily discounted.
Is Fallout London easy to mod on Steam? I read that it requires some extra step, compared to GOG? And since I have the Deck only, do you know if it is easy to install it on the Deck?
Also curious about this. I didn't want to do a whole new play through with a gog one but don't really want the hassle of setting up the London mod with my steam version. Been holding off until I get more time to mess with it but the longer I go the more likely I just suck it up and start over on gog.
Been picking up hot wheels games for my son recently. The monster truck game just came up for 70% off, putting it right in the zone I'm willing to pay.
Date Everything has the appeal of many known voice actors being involved in this silly story. It's great fun to puzzle out all the voice lines - especially if youre fan of some of the actors.
Is Seance of Blake Manor the first Blue Prince-like? I'm very hyped about it too but I'm still waiting for more than -25% off. Let me know how you like it, Blue Prince was my GOTY so another game to scratch that itch is enticing.
That's a great question. I'm not sure. I played Blue Prince and really liked it, but my family went and found Seance because they thought it was like Roottrees and Immortality.
Maybe Wolfenstein 1 or Bloodstained, my list is super long and there's like tons of game i wanna play. Bang for buck wise i'd go for Wolfenstein 1 & 2 probably.
I am an fpv rc plane and quad dude and love flying games with fun arcade like physics that make flying more exciting but still retail the the ability to pilot with advanced controls like a pro. Most flying games the controls are either too dumbed down to be fun or too slow place and realistic and the combat feels like you are flying a 747.
Sooo that being said I'm gonna get one of the X4 bundles. I loved Everspace 1 & 2 and saw that X4 was bundled with it cause they were similar games. So at $5 I figure I'll give it a try.
If you are like me and enjoy this tiny niche of flying games, I recommend Everspace 2, it's is a great game kinda rpg-esk and it's only $10 the controls are kinda dumbed down but it's a blast to play, (Everspace 1 is more of a rogue like game then rpg, also very cool but it's not on sale though)
If you are an experienced fpv drone pilot Firehawk FPV is such a badass concept and game and only $15 right now.
If anyone has any other of these type games they would recommend, id love to hear them.
X4 is great! But it's not really a flying game. You start off flying in a space ship yes, but by mid-game you it turns into a grand strategy game. You'll probably spend more time on the map screen and hire an AI pilot to do the flying for you. Still a great game though!
Grabbed Slay the Spire and Green Hell. Both all-time low.
Thinking of picking up Catherine Classic + the NOexistenceN of you AND me. Don't know if I have time to play those two with Persona 5 Royal and RDR2 in my backlog.
Not sure if it's part of Winter Sale, but I'll get Mandragora Whisper of the Witch Tree (I'll get it on Switch though where it's also on sale). A work colleague heartily recommended it to me and it looks like a cool game; 2d platformer with hard "soulslike" combat, but doesn't look like it's going too hard on the "soulslike". Supposedly very good exploration.
I played Mandragora this summer. Liked it quite a bit. It's not going to change your whole world but it's a solid Soulslike Metroidvania. Compared to other entries in the genre it's extremely light on platforming (which for me was a plus), so keep that in mind if you play these kind of games for the precision platforming. The platforming is there as part of the level design and traversal, but don't expect to be challenged with long sequences of difficult platforming if that's what you're after.
Otherwise it's a lot of fun, the PoE-inspired skill tree is great and lets you do some fun multiclassing by moving over to adjacent skill trees to find combos and synergies. Some of the spellcasting classes can be pretty broken though, so keep that in mind if you don't want to make the game a cakewalk. Chaos magic in particular was pretty busted, at least when I played.
Exploration is good, it's exactly what you'd expect from a Metroidvania: new stuff opens up in old areas when you unlock new traversal abilities. Also the game is very pretty to look at.
Same here man. I just bought paladin for D4 and am having fun, but having a hard time getting them to bite for even the base game. I've told them about other 2P games I own only to find they blow me off and play them in their own duo pairs. We've been friends a long time, but I have younger kids so the stars have to align for us all to be able to play together.
We are now playing Bellright over the holiday break but it's a little slower than I'd like. Some others are playing LoL which is okay but still a bit too rage inducing at times for me.
The only reason I was able to play RVTY is because I had it through Family games.
Adulting is hard. I don't even have kids, and even my childless friends have scheduling issues.
It's universal, we're all busy, especially at this time of the year (until we get mandatory days off at least). So much family stuff to do, even if you don't have kids, seeing parents, siblings, cousins, whatever.... It's a whole thing.
I don't think our games overlap very much, so I wouldn't make a good gaming buddy for you. I hope you get to have fun with friends in good games soon.
Y’all got any recs for “AI sandboxes” in the vein of Rimworld and Stellaris? Stellaris is just borked now, and I’ve modded/played the hell out of Rimworld.
Someone already told you this, but I want to elaborate
Dwarf Fortress was essentially what Rimworld was cloned from. I've been downvoted into oblivion by rimworld fans for such heresy, but it's true.
For the longest time DF has been free, disgustingly ugly, and getting updates for like 20 years (think you can still download freeware version, but there's a steam version now you can pay for. I bought it because it's been a gem for YEARS and devs more than deserve my $20 or whatever it was).
Rimworld took the DF game, made it sci fi, and made it not absolute dogshit to look at.
You could always mod DF with icon packs that made it look a lot better but it was still pretty ugly.
The steam version of DF looks much, much better but it's not quite as pretty as Rimworld still, I think.
Either way, if you got any time out of Rimworld and want something similar, Dwarf Fortress is your best choice. They're both great and are IMO the best in class of whatever genre you'd call it.
Nah, I’m a hardcore Rimworld fan who’s been with it since the forum Alphas, and that’s completely true, heh. IIRC was explicitly inspired by DF, literally part of the description in the early days.
That being said, I’ve never played DF. I’m more into sci fi and tech than Tolkien-esque fantasy, hence I’ve passed on stuff like Necesse and… what’s that massive city builder? That, and many I’ve forgotten the names of.
Maybe I will give DF a look though. Maybe it has automation/tech mods that would make it more appealing, like Minecraft and Rimworld?
I'm also way more into sci fi than fantasy. But IMO, DF is a much, much better game. I've never looked for a mod that does what you're looking for but I wouldn't be surprised if it exists, at least for the texture packs. I think it would be pretty challenging to make a mod that redid all the generated flare (like when your dwarves carve stuff up and there's RNG of the scene they carve) but not impossible. I never cared about any of that crap so I never read it anyways, but lots of people love it.
As in which version to buy? There's an unreal engine remaster called Reload which is a full remake of the PS2 game and then a PSP port. The former has improved gameplay and the latter is like a VN with the dungeon crawling as the unvarnished original. PSP port does have exclusive content in terms of a female MC alternative story but I'd say that was for real enthusiasts
Amen to that. I’m more of a rum guy during Christmas but the rest of the year I stick to whiskey. I didn’t drink much this year so I’m still stocked up, but the next time I do buy a bottle I might get Lagavulin again.
Please don't give money to people who explicitly use it to perscuit, harass and restrict the rights of a minority group. There are so many other games, give your business to anyone else.
I only played it for about 10 hours myself. The castle is awesome but I lost interest once I unlocked the broom. It took all the wonder out of the game. If I were to compare it to Witcher 3, at least on your horse you would find all these nooks and crannies to discover and investigate between point A and B. In HL you can zip around like nothing once flying is unlocked and there are more side markers than a full Assasins Creed map out of the gate. I dunno, it just killed it for me for some reason at that point.
I think it's been 3 consecutive years now that ive been waiting on a deep sale for some titles, but they have yet to reach lower than 10 bucks (max I'm willing to pay).
Some of them aren't particularly old releases so I dont mind waiting more:
I might get those:
I assume I still got a few years until Baldur’s Gate 3 dips below $20.
Yeah! I’m wanting that game.
I have about $15 in steam credit, so I’m thinking of just pulling the trigger even though I have other games I’m actively playing.
i wanna get it as soon as I'm done with divinity 2!
but i need to get a total of 4 copies for the partner and the youngins, and gosh.
i do wanna support them though!
I decided to pull the trigger on bg3 maybe today or next week.
Depends on if I have time to play today.
You prob played them already, but the Divinity: Original Sin games are on deep discount
Yup - I certainly recommend those any chance I get.
I have Rogue Trader in flight and still have Pillars Of Eternity 2 and Tyranny in my backlog to hopefully tide me over.
Also if you wanna go real oldschool, Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity go for like 70¢ occasionally. :D
If you wait too long, larian's new game will be out
Why would that matter? It will be unrelated to BG3.
Hey, sometimes people are drawn to new games rather than tried and true games.
If they're waiting due to price, they're probably not interesting in buying the new game because it's new.
That doesn't hurt BG3, and Larian has been adding free content to BG3 over time, so really the longer you wait the better it'll be. Still, it's definitely worth the price. It's a pretty long game, and good for the entire duration. Its also pretty replayable.
I feel the need to clarify that I was half sarcastic teasing
I think they said the content updates are done, in the last content update?
UFO50 is good value even when it isn't on sale imo. So much content crammed into it!
Rdr2 is free on epic on new years day.
That's an interesting story there senator, you gotta a source to back that up?
Edit: I looked this up myself. It's fake
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/940241
The fact that Tropico 5 was NOT the free game from epic today along with several other different ones not on the list previously should tell you that this list was fake
No Man's Sky is fun and worth it
auomata is so so so worth it
Depends on what you're looking for. I'd confidently recommend against buying it if you're looking for an action game. There's at least 10 better, cheaper candidates on Steam.
At first I read “Wired West” and got hopeful for a new person experiencing Dust for the first time.
Definitely get Card Shark if you have a gamepad. I bought it a couple days ago, and I'm in love with it.
I actually live close to where that game stars off, so it's a must play haha
I spent way too long thinking "my body is a machine..." was the title of a game lol. Incredible meme.
here is your reminder to take a peek over on GOG aswell. personally found steam's offerings pretty lacking this year. GOG's; less so.
Or just make sure you check isthereanydeal.
Slay the spire ringed is the lowest its ever been
One of my favorite games
I seem to already have all the deep discounts I‘d be interested in… I currently only buy 80%+ discounts (if anything) since experience has taught me that anything lower than this will get there again very soon, so I’m not missing out by skipping now. I have like 200 untouched games anyway so I‘d probably just be throwing more on the pile… Gifts for friends are in the cart tho
So far just dlc for games I already own. Maybe I'll get Slime Rancher.
I love Slime Rancher! Highly recommend.
Nothing, absolutely nothing. My backlog is huge with games that have hours to play.
This appears to be written in English, but I can't make sense of it.
We must feed the backlog, always.
Number go up.
makes completion rates go down though, and adds an awful lot of zeroes (hours played)
net negative on the numbers, chief
We're entertainment dragons.
We sleep upon the amassed collection of potential future fun in every unplayed game.
Once you try the game, you may realize that you don't even like it.
Rookie move.
According to isthereanydeal, these sales aren't nearly as good as they were last seasonal sale in June
Whelp, either GameBillet, GreenManGaming, GOG or pirqcy
Gamebillet has been killing it lately
I'm getting a 4-pack of Tabletop Simulator. Not sure if that counts, since I already did that once—I have new people to try to rope into playing boardgames digitally with me, lol.
Board Game Arena is so good already, though!
Loads of games in TTS are fully scripted. As both a BGA and TTS fan, I still lean towards TTS. It’s more fun and supports way more types of play and with the Community Workshop, there’s so many fun custom games on there too.
Thanks, TIL! Here I was thinking it was all manual!
There's also a digital adaptation of Clank, though I haven't tried it myself. I know the same developers made Root Digital for Leder Games and that adaptation is well-received.
I have a lot of games I haven't played yet in my library, so I will patiently wait for another sale
Where can I learn this skill?
Understood. Buying all the Star Wars games.
This is the way.
Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor have a really attractive bundle for both, actually. Pretty fun games if you like the soulsbourne formula.
I know this isn't all _that _ helpful but for me what worked was finally forcing myself to start playing a couple of the games in my backlog. It made me realize that I can really enjoy a lot of the games I already own which decreased my desire to buy more games.
Yeah, when I get the urge to buy, I go through my library and pretend it's a "store", and "shop" for something I haven't played.
Small psychological trick that...seems to mostly work. :)
The one that looks tempting which I might actually get around to playing some day if I buy it is Hades.
Hades 1 & 2 are so good!
Played Hades 1, it's super good when it clicked, if not it will feels like any other roguelike.
I refunded Hades, I found it dull. To each their own.
I bought it for Switch years ago after being peer pressured from the massive amount of glazing and regretted it. It's a good game, I just don't like roguelikes. The constant "I hate roguelikes but this was the best game I've played in years!" comments pushed me to do it.
I loved the game but the actual gameplay was probably my least favorite part if that makes sense.
It does, I kind of agree. The visual style, artwork and characters are all fantastic, but the gameplay is super repetitive
I'm also just not very good at fighting games lol
There is just something about Hades that clicked for me as well. I literally never played rougelikes, but Hades just hit different.
I played it right before Hades 2 came out, and bought Hades 2. I have now completed all steam achievements on both games. So I really understand the
Was that way for me too
I just wasn't lucky enough!
Dooooo iiiiiiit, Hades is so fucking gooooood
I put it down after about 20 hours, then came back after a few months and 100% it. Honestly that I gotta escape 10 times slog was demoralizing but worth it and very gratifying
If anybody is into vr, a lot of vr stuff is on sale right now... And keep in mind, when the steam frame comes out next year, you'll probably want some games to play.
Well, be patient and buy it next year with frame
You and your good advice.
Edit: woah I misread your username
Why would you buy a game now that you have no hardware to play on?
Maybe I‘m wrong, but there will probably be one or two more sales until you hold that shiny new hardware in your hands.
Valid question.
I have an Index and will probably upgrade to a Frame when it's released.
Yup, I’m super tempted to start stocking up on cheap VR games in anticipation for the Frame, but I need to see the final price and be 100% sure I’m going for it before I commit to games that I can’t otherwise play.
Anything in particular?
Bravo for writing so much you had me believing Anthro Heat wasn’t exactly what the title sounds like.
Lmao, no, it's exactly what it sounds like. And it's actually GOOD too.
Tails of Iron (-92%)
The Banner Saga (-85%)
Bloodstained: Ritual of Night (-75%)
Virgo Versus The Zodiac (-75%)
Road 96 (-75%)
HYPER DEMON (-75%)
INMOST (-70%)
Trepang2 (-66% - if it was any lower I would just snap it)
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was fun.
Never played Doom 2016 but I've heard it's very good.
Inscryption is fantastic. Enjoy it!

Too poor to be in this community
Hey, there are always the free games given away by Epic and others...
I feel that. I’ve missed the last couple sales and will probably sit this one out too.
They aren't as good as they used to be
Might be time to grab Psychonauts 2 at -85% (C$12). The first game was great. Not too much else I've been tracking is at a price I'd go for at the moment, though I haven't looked past my wishlist for now.
It's not as good at the first one, but still good.
Darksiders bundle and Halo Master Chief Collection.
Sifu. Not that old but cheap enough
Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is usually around $20 and seems worth it at that price and it is at $10 which seems like a genuinely great deal for a city builder/transit game.
https://isthereanydeal.com/game/workers-and-resources-soviet-republic/info/
Riftbreaker at $11 is tempting too
https://isthereanydeal.com/game/the-riftbreaker/info/
Workers & Resources is such a cool idea for a game, but man it's intense. You don't just paint roads, you have to buy the machinery and materials, and pave them manually. As just one example
To each their own, I bought the game because of that kind of thing!

Wait a great place, thank you!
2 days ago snatched Tomb Rider trilogy for under 6 euro.
Today got Slay the Spire, Witcher 3 and Detroit: Become Human for under 10.
The original trilogy, or the reboot trilogy?
Probably talking about the 1, 2 & 3 remastered set that just came out as I just grabbed it too. Original trilogy.
You can switch between the original and remastered graphics instantly, at any time, by pressing start. You can also use tank controls if you're a masochist
Reboot. But Was thinking to get remastered too
I bought two:
ACE COMBAT™7: SKIES UNKNOWN - $4.79 (Flying makes me hard)
Detroit: Become Human - $3.99 (always looking for something to experience with my barely-gamer s/o)
How is Detroit? I'm a barely gamer SO trying to find a co-op game that I enjoy
Just bought it yesterday, will update when we get into it!
Detroit is a great game if you like cinematic, story-driven experience. It's like a Choose-Your-Own Adventure book, in video-game form. Kind of like an interactive movie.
I am morally obligated to recommend Project Wingman (although it's more expensive at a whole $12.49 right now)
I played it on Xbox, but I assume the PC version is just as good. Plus you can mod it so that
waifuWSO Prez shares the cockpit in every planeDamn you!!!! making me pull out my wallet again! (thanks)
Oh wow, that's a great deal for DBH. I bought it for a bit more a few sales ago. Still haven't played it yet, of course...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VDRtx_axsI
Hi-Fi Rush has been at $17.99 for about a week now, didn't know that the winter sale was live so I thought DekuDeals was lying to me and jumped on that purchase.
I bought a bunch of discounted CRPGs on Steam and GOG last month, I don't want to buy anything this time. Let's see if I can resist...
Like, your first ever point and click adventure?
As far as I can remember, yeah. They skipped me because I was mainly a console and flash game kid in a time when point and click adventure games were becoming less popular as a genre.
Edit:
Just realized the one Spy Fox and Pajama Man Sam games I played were point and click adventure games. So I'm wrong about BTEOG being the first ever. My memory failed me.
Right in time for their revival, then.
Palworld. Even though it never goes below 20€
Picked up lords of the fallen and it's been scratching that souls-like itch I've had since I finished elden ring.
It's like a first person Project Zomboid. Lots of potential
Just added the demo to my library, thanks for the recs
Can you play with friends?
Have not tried it, but there are supposed to be multiplayer options. Not sure how well it works, sounds like there are plans to fix bugs (whatever they may be) in the near future.
I've seen the YouTube channel Hat Films do a three player co-op in it.
Picked up Eastern Exorcist. Got it for free for Android from epic but no gamepad support. So now I buy the Steam version for gamepad support. Solid game
Got it for free too on Epic and was super surprised by it. Solid game indeed.
I haven't bought anything yet, but I've been compiling a short list of mostly DRPG games like the old Might and Magics that I've been playing, specifically ones that'll work on the Deck nicely. It's a genre I loved when I was younger that's been rather missing from my modern collection.
and/or
And then on GoG, I might pick up a few real old ones, like Lands of Lore and/or Wizards & Warriors, but I don't think those will be good for steam deck even through Heroic.
Songs of conquest is fantastic, definitely recommend.
I keep coming back to play it and they have been releasing solid new content, such as new factions
Pick up Lands of Lore. Let me be your enabler.
Ooh, Wildermyth looks pretty tempting too...
I was looking at Fallout 76 since its 90% off but what's the concensus on it? Plan is to play with the wife.
I have Fallout 4 but not the mods, plus 200Gb of free space is kind of rich, so I would better know how well it runs and if it is really worth it.
I'm not sure tbh, when I do mod it, I'll post here.
I picked up Ikaruga. I can feel the input delay, but it's still fun.
Been picking up hot wheels games for my son recently. The monster truck game just came up for 70% off, putting it right in the zone I'm willing to pay.
Horizon 5 has one heck of a Hot Wheels expansion, if y’all don’t already have it.
The Hot Wheels Unlimited games are great!
So fucked that the company that developed Hi-Fi Rush was disbanded. Great game.
Half way through my second Hi-Fi Rush playthrough. Game is fantastic.
I got Survivor recently and it's really good so far.
I had fun with Hellblade 2. Doesn't overstay its welcome. Not sure how I felt about the ending but it was memorable
Welcome to Kowloon and The Swapper are both ones I've had on my list and both are about $2. Why not?
Besides that, I'm going to try and play some more Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 during the holidays, as I'm still in the early stages of both.
Date Everything has the appeal of many known voice actors being involved in this silly story. It's great fun to puzzle out all the voice lines - especially if youre fan of some of the actors.
Alright, this must actually be a thing because that's what my kid said about Date Everything, too. The kid is way into voice acting.
Well, there are worse special interests. This way you'll just get a theater kid - which has its own perks at times
Boy you called that shot. That's exactly what I've got.
It takes one to know one ;) now you'll get to find out which flavor of theater kid you'll get - cosplay, writing, improv or a mixed bag
Got them the cosplay they wanted for Xmas. That’s their big gift.
And in this moment, I realized my kid fits some theater kid cosplay archetype that I didn’t know existed.
I bought operation Tango. Insanely fun co op game! Enjoyed it very much. Just wished it had a longer story
Yes I played with my husband and we loved it, but havent come back to it since finishing the story. Seems to have limited replayability.
The story dosen't have too much replayability, I agree.
Ghost of Tsushima for me
Late to this thread.
Grabbed Slay the Spire and Green Hell. Both all-time low.
Thinking of picking up Catherine Classic + the NOexistenceN of you AND me. Don't know if I have time to play those two with Persona 5 Royal and RDR2 in my backlog.
Slay the Spire for less than 3€ is amazing
Yeah I can easily sink 100 hours into this
Not sure if it's part of Winter Sale, but I'll get Mandragora Whisper of the Witch Tree (I'll get it on Switch though where it's also on sale).
Cool sounds good!
I'm thinking about grabbing...
Star birds
Last caretaker
And rv there yet
I'm also eyeballing planet Crafter, and a couple others on my wish list that dropped below $10.
I've also wanted to pick up ultra kill for a while but I never see it on sale for under $20 (Canadian schmeckles)....
Some that I'm still waiting to see come down in price to something more reasonable....
Horizon: forbidden West
Split fiction
Borderlands 4.
Even on discount, these are well over $40.
My friends and I played through RV There Yet just last month. Hilariously awesome game but very hard to solo. Definitely recommend with friends.
My friends rarely play what I play. It sucks.
You too, thanks!
Oh god. The amounts of hours I've sunk into planet crafter is midly embarrassing. Well worth a punt.
I'm pretty deep into satisfactory most of the time. Over 1800 hours.... That isn't a typo.
I figure that it's close enough that it might just fill in the gaps between satisfactory content updates. :p
Have you tried Oxygen not included?
Not yet
Planet crafter is amazing. Don’t wait, grab it and play!
I've picked: Outer Wilds, The Alters (yeah wasn't that patient on this) and Shadow Gambit
I fucking love The Alters, it's so beautiful, but also stressful, lol
It's a gem. I'm just about 2h in but i already love it :)
The Pathfinder games are on sale.
I might grab wasteland 2 and 3
Y’all got any recs for “AI sandboxes” in the vein of Rimworld and Stellaris? Stellaris is just borked now, and I’ve modded/played the hell out of Rimworld.
Zomboid?
Dwarf fortress :)
I had been saving up for Deltarune, avoiding spoilers for years (didn't have time to even play the demo)
Going to play V rising with the homies
I'll be patient and keep waiting for EDF 6 currently 56% off and that is still too much of $79 full price. If it goes down to 75 % off I'll buy it.
Is there any advice for Persona 3? It's super confusing
Thanks!
Detroit: Become Human and Harry Potter for under $10. Pretty nice sales.
For the first time I decided to spend my money on a Lagavulin 16 and Port Charlotte 10.
Oh nice. I love Islay single malts. I’ve never tried Port Charlotte 10 but Lagavulin 16 is excellent.
Yes. Probably not the best place to post such a reply, found many games lackluster this year... But a peaty dram always wins!
Amen to that. I’m more of a rum guy during Christmas but the rest of the year I stick to whiskey. I didn’t drink much this year so I’m still stocked up, but the next time I do buy a bottle I might get Lagavulin again.
The Harry Potter game probably
Please don't, Fuck JKR and all the cunts who support her. even those who are happily consuming crap
Please don't give money to people who explicitly use it to perscuit, harass and restrict the rights of a minority group. There are so many other games, give your business to anyone else.
You just missed it for free on Epic last week. I do agree with the other commenters though, fuck JKR.
Didn't miss it, just would rather pay money to get it on steam than free on epic.
