"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023

606

It’s all fun and games until Republicans use this as an excuse to further enforce their fascist agendas. Just glad this happened in Utah and not Illinois or California. Blue states will likely bear the brunt of the repercussions if there are any.

88

Just for the chance that this snowballs and we get more good guys with guns making moves like this, I'm buying a bag of popcorn kernels and cheap "champagne" (because I can't afford anything else).

lemmy.world

This is just my perspective, and I never wish harm or suffering on another living being, but if what/who you are and advocate for causes these things and you're too stupid or bribed to see it and continue being you... Then, for the greater good, good riddance

94
lemmy.world

Don't get me wrong, he got what he advocated for, I'm certainly not crying or really feeling anything about his death but huh, I guess dude FAFO'ed. I just don't find the "good guy with a gun" comment appropriate here that's all even if a small sliver of me goes "yeah, kinda, yeah" because more than likely that guy is very much not a good guy, probably very mentally ill.

Just my thoughts.

From the bits I saw of the alleged shooter getting arrested, to me it looks like the guy was planning on getting caught. Balding old white men who can shoot like that don't strike me as the type who run away.

EDIT: Waiting for confirmation on whether the actual suspect is caught or not.

Last I saw the shooter is still free, the person originally arrested is not involved and has been released.

26

per AP:

Person taken into custody after Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah is not believed to be shooting suspect, AP source says

11
MouldyCatreply
feddit.uk

A statement released by the university said a “single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.” A university spokeswoman later told the New York Times that police had determined the person detained earlier was not the shooter, and that no suspect was currently in custody.

Looks like the guy initially arrested turned out to not be involved (maybe just another guy with a high powered rifle? Don't know, must make things hard in the US). Or have they since arrested someone else?

8

Probably one of those "open carry" dipshits, hanging around to show off his gun, and when someone gets shot, he's the first guy they focus on, giving the real shooter a head start on his escape. Nice job being a witless accomplice.

3
lemmy.world

I completely understand, and I actually wish that I could share your perspective. Unfortunately for my "empathy for all" perspective, I couldn't help but smile when I read that he got shot. Because my mind directly went to the "oh, this is gonna alleviate so much suffering" POV

14

“oh, this is gonna alleviate so much suffering”

That's not how these things usually go. Quite the opposite.

-5

I haven't read about, and am not interested in the shooter.

My opinion is only that the world is better off without Charlie Kirk, nothing else at this point.

3
lemmy.world

what/who you are and advocate for causes these things

"If someone tries to assassinate you, it's because you deserve it", in other words.

Seems like a pretty dangerous stance to take.

-3

We hanged people at Nuremberg for doing exactly what Kirk made his whole career doing. That's the context that every discussion of Kirk's death should begin with.

I don't know. This is only going to cause MAGA to ramp up their fascism, and give them a better excuse to enact further violence on us, the citizens.

wHo CoUlD hAvE sEeN tHiS cOmInG?!?!

-8
sh.itjust.works

The ramp up was always going to happen anyway. Everyone knows that appeasement doesn't work on Nazis.

47

I can even see an argument in which he was killed by his own as a sacrificial lamb as there is no bottom in the depths of their depravity.

4

They didn't need this. They were going to do it regardless. They might use this as an excuse, sure, but it wont' be the reason.

Fascist do not "need" a reason to remove rights from people.

26

They need exactly zero excuse other than brown people existing to ramp up their fascism and enact violence on Americans.

7

Any politician that completely supports Trump is fair game at this point. Things will not return to normal by talking. If you dont wanna live in a dictatorship wake the fuck up. If you live in the US (i luckily dont) then learn how to use a gun, because its gonna get much much worse than the way it is right now.

35

Yes, as long as people are willing to resort to murder in support of their ideology.

-4

I just have to ask, is it because another human being was shot or were you one of the people celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden?

6
lemmy.ca

They're not really using humour. Americans are actually this fucked up. Have mercy.

-40

I've now heard these things in reference to Americans from non-americans:

  1. Why aren't you doing something about the rising fascist republicans?

And now:

  1. Americans are fucked up for doing something against a prominent fascist government supporter

I'm not sure which you want anymore.

22

You got to admit if you didn't want to get shot, visiting a US school was a bad idea.

407

Trump ordered flags at half mast until Sunday. So this piece of shit got what he quite literally asked for and it’s a national tragedy, but innocent children killed in schools on a weekly basis get “nothing we can do about it, thoughts an prayers 🤷‍♂️.” Fucking clownshow.

219

He was sitting at what he calls the "prove me wrong" table, answering questions about gun violence.

I think someone managed it.

Oh, so this is the school shooting that Conservatives suddenly give two shits about?

193

My water heater started leaking over the weekend. It was only seven years old, but I suppose since the warranty was six years, I shouldn't complain? Anyway, I installed my new water heater today, so I can shower again. This one has a 12-year warranty, it might out live me.

I just took a shower, I feel great. I'll be going for a walk around sunset. It's been a good day.

184

There's so many layers of irony to this event. You can't make this shit up.

A man, who made a career downplaying gun violence and advocating against empathy for its victims, was shot while giving a talk about his favorite topic under a tent that said "Prove me wrong", on a college campus in a state that just lifted its ban on weapons on college campuses. His own quotes can be endlessly used to shut down any outrage at his ironic demise.

Charlie Kirk's final moments were spent being definitively and completely proven wrong.

If this wasn't going to used as an excuse to ban Trans people from owning firearms and for further violence against the opposition, it would be hilarious.

177

Former President Barack Obama stressed that "this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy."

With all due respect sir, if our democracy were functioning for all of the people instead of just for the rich, people wouldn’t feel the need to vote with the ammo box.

150

He deserves the same empathy and compassion he gave to other victims of gun violence.

136

Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter says.

The extent of Kirk’s injuries were not immediately clear.

trump asked for prayers. They’re going full Christian nationalist with their responses.

Kristi Noem: The secretary of Department of Homeland Security said, “Byron and I are lifting up Charlie, Erika, and their family in our prayers right now.”

Pete Hegseth: “An incredible Christian, American, and human being. May the healing hand of Jesus Christ be upon him,” the secretary of the Department of Defense said in a post on X.

Mike Johnson: The House Speaker asked to pray “for our good friend, Charlie Kirk,” in a post on social media.

Dan Bongino: The deputy FBI director said, “I don’t have the words. God help Charlie and his family.”

Nazis are so goddamn weird.

Audience member: “Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?”

Kirk: “Too many.”

The same audience member went on say the number is five, and proceeded to ask if Kirk knows how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years.

Kirk: “Counting or not counting gang violence?”

Seconds later, the sound of a pop is heard and the crowd screams as Kirk gets shot and recoils in his seat.

Remember: The vast majority of mass attacks in the US have no connection to transgender people. From January 2013 to the present, of the more than 5,700 mass shootings in America (defined as four or more victims shot and killed), five shooters were confirmed as transgender, said Mark Bryant, founding executive director of the Gun Violence Archive.

Interesting reflection of Lemmy demographics that I haven't seen much "But he has a wife and kids, we shouldn't be celebrating his death uwu" rhetoric. Apparently even the most staunch centrists here acknowledge the harm Toiler Paper USA has done to the US populace.

There's some insane laundering of his legacy going on now over on Reddit and through American news outlets though, as if he didn't call Paul Pelosi's attacker a "patriot" or dismiss school shootings as a necessary evil of the 2nd amendment. MSNBC even fired a political analyst over calling him "divisive."

I'm not one of those people who blame every ill of the world on the "neoliberal cucks" or whatever, but damn if they don't have a point regarding the corporate capture of the United States news media currently.

109

Republican Senate Leader John Thune of South Dakota: “There is no place in our country for political violence. Period, full stop.”

Says the asshole who's party advocate for political violence every fucking day.

94

He didn't believe in empathy, so I'm going to honour him by not having empathy for him. He was in a position of authority and power and advocated for gun violence over the lives of kids, saying the deaths in school shootings are "worth it". I can only sympathise for his poor children though. Jesus!!

I don't live in America but I heard 3 kids are currently in critical condition after a school/mass shooting. It's weird how this got way more media coverage

90

Its in moments like these that I really appreciate non corporate social media. Everywhere outside the fediverse all I see is people freaking out, acting like this is the first shooting to ever happen in the united states. Even supposed leftists are just like "I don't agree with the man but no one deserves to get killed over their beliefs".

They seem to have forgotten that people get killed over way dumber shit all the time. Personally I care about all the other shootings a lot more than this one. Especially the school shooting in Colorado that happened the same afternoon, which is being mostly ignored.

There are even lots of comments that condemn anyone making light of his death, or even just making comments about his politics. This dissent they condemn is almost nowhere to be found though, because algorithms bury it all straight to the bottom. The only opinion allowed to be seen is "I'm horrified look at me".

Coming back to a place where a real discussion can be had makes me realize just how important this project really is. We need more spaces that we truly own.

Trump blames harsh language for Kirk's death

Trump posted a video that appeared to be filmed in the Oval Office Wednesday evening on Truth Social, blaming Kirk's death on harsh political rhetoric.

He said "violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree."

He added: "For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now."

U.S. terror experts have warned of rising threats from so-called stochastic terrorism, in which sometimes unstable individuals are inspired to violence by hate speech and scenarios they see online and hear echoed by public figures.

Whaaaaattt??? I am so totally shocked to hear this accusation coming from Trump.

After the FBI has already apparently arrested and released 2 suspects... That's another great thing about firing every FBI agent that was qualified to do their job in retaliation for Jan 6th. You never quite know what's incompetence vs conspiracy these days.

85

University officials said the shot appeared to come from a nearby campus building roughly 200 yards (180 m) from the event area; local media identified the location as the Losee Center rooftop.

Helluva shot then

76

An autopsy may finally determine the true size of his face. Praying for the integrity of his facial features postmortem, for science.

72

Somehow I think the reaction to this will be totally different than it was when a gunman killed Melissa Hortman and wounded John Hoffman.

71

They detained this man in connection to the crime, however he has since been released. Which is incredibly peculiar considering he and I were watching the sopranos together at the time of the incident. I can’t remember who my sopranos buddy was at the time.

68

Thanks to the "good guy with a gun" who protected the world from this guy.

68

I'll admit, I jumped up and down like a schoolgirl when I heard. I'll gladly celebrate the death of fascists.

Change my mind 😂

62

I find the demands from the far right to have empathy for Kirk so distasteful... I see them dive into their favourite victim role so quickly and all the woe is us and the "See, the left is dangerous" stupid rhetoric.

Kirk himself said that empathy was destroying the world, why do we need to feel empathy for that asshole now?! Like always the right only cares when it affects them...

I'm soooo tired about the nonsense from the far right.

This attack is only going to galvanize the far right, so I sure hope that the shooter turns out to be right wing. If he's left wing, I fear for the lives of many of us. The nazis are trigger happy.

60

A moment of silence on the floor of the US House of Representatives over Charlie Kirk’s killing has turned into a shouting match between Republicans and Democrats.

The commotion began when Republican representative Lauren Boebert rose after the moment of prayer to ask that the House also say a prayer for Kirk, according to multiple lawmakers who were on the floor during the incident, Axios reports.

Democrats then shouted “what about the kids in Colorado”, referring to a school shooting in Colorado that also occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Boebert responded that she was about to reference that tragedy before she was interrupted, the report continues.

Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna, who worked as Kirk’s director of Hispanic engagement at Turning Point USA, then stood up and yelled at Democrats: “You caused this!”

That prompted a raucous Democratic response, with Democratic representative Jahana Hayes, a leader on the gun violence prevention task force, shouting: “Pass some gun laws!”

Footage of the commotion from C-Span can be seen here on Instagram.

Looks like the person they detained was released. The shooter got away and is still at large.

53

So wait, we don't lower the flag for school shootings but we'll lower it for this ... person?

53
  1. They immediately detained people who confronted Charlie at the event (as they were more democratic), but obviously were not the shooter.

  2. The FBI says there is a massive manhunt for the shooter and are asking for any help they can get.

  3. The Right IMMEDIATELY blamed democrats and the "radical left" are calling for our murders and a civil war, without any scrap of evidence to prove their claims.

  4. The shooter was a ghost, some videos show a black figure on a roof 142 yards from the tent, well blended in and in all black. There is also video of the shooter running off the roof immediately after the shooting and got lost in the chaos. It's been over 18 hours and no suspect has been caught.

  5. Just before this event, Charlie voiced concerns over other right wing conservatives not aligning with his ideals and voicing concern over Israel. He was wearing body amour at this event and the shooter knew it. Extra security was brought in for this event.

The most logical explanations for this shooting would be:

  1. Another right wing radical taking out a voice they feel is hurting their cause for the movement and to cause chaos in the political spectrum.

  2. A political assassination carried out by Donald Trump and his team to start a war with democrats and start a real war within on anyone that doesn't agree with them. AKA False Flag.

It's just too clean a getaway and too good of a shot for any other explanation considering the angle of the shot, the elevation change, the crowd, and the heightened security.

51

There's a lot of conservatives seemingly gearing up for war saying shit like "The left doesn't understand what they've unleashed."

Conservatives get to kill who they want and the moment someone kills one of them they want to murder the left.

(At least that's what the bot-like conservative social media looks like.)

Turning Point USA CEO and co-founder Charlie Kirk said of gun deaths on April 5, 2023, "I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."

Play stupid games, win stupid prices...

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

Oh, were they? That's super convenient. Almost thoughtful of the shooter to leave that kind of evidence behind but evade capture.

A lot of people seem to be writing on gun cartridges these days. Kind of a new trend I guess?

Very confused how we ended up here, but started here:

42

“Democratic societies will always have political disagreements, but we must never allow America to become a country that confronts those disagreements with violence,” she said on social media.

Well its not a democracy anymore you little fuckwits, so the time for polite discourse is over im afraid. You gotta reap what you sow.

41

I ate 2 burritos last night, so coincidentally I also dropped a huge piece of shit today.

40

Wow I almost feel sorry for the guy. Words shouldn't ever be met with violence. But if you act like a complete cunt for years don't be surprised when you get fucked.

34

It really says something about what a POS you are when you get shot dead and everyone's reaction is to point and laugh.

34

Given his attitudes towards guns and empathy, I see no need to be nice -or even civil - about his death. He preached scorn and cruelty, so we should honor that by returning it (legally) with interest.

34

Sucks for his wife and kid(s) but otherwise nothing of value was lost. He made his silver spewing hate and oppression.

33

Hey, be respectful. This man really put his neck out for his beliefs. He offered himself as tribute to the 2nd amendment, and we should admire his conviction. The proper way to celebrate would be to honour his wishes and show zero empathy. It's the least we can do for him.

It's a rare man that has the courage to rationalize senseless violence in defense of unrestricted access to deadly weapons, and it is even rarer to literally make that the hill you die on. He showed us all by example how you truly live your creed.

33

Some people I know are taking a dangerous amount of glee in this. Not dangerous in a "Oh he wasn't that bad of a guy how dare you be happy about it" kind of way, but in a "You know people can see what you're writing, right?" kind of way. The sort of stuff that would get you banned from sites or fired from your jobs.

By all means, be happy about it if you want to be, I know there are some specific minority groups out there that are cheering the house down at Kirk's death, but be smart about it. Then again I probably don't need to tell anyone on Lemmy this since privacy and anonymity are pretty key elements of the community.

"So we need a bigger distraction. Like Horst Wessel meets Reichstag fire." I wonder if someday we'll find out Trump ordered it.

Or maybe it's just chickens coming home to roost.

Or most likely of all, far-right faction fighting.

29

“Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America in the last 10 years?” a person asks. “Counting or not counting gang violence?” Kirk responds right before he is shot.

Shooter fired from a building 200 yards away and managed to give him the most stunningly ironic last words. It honestly seems contrived.

And apparently he’d been in contact with the trump administration, through frequent calls and texts with Vance, all through trump’s campaign and presidency. Wonder how they’ll deal with a seemingly immensely important person leaving so suddenly.

29

Stealing this from mastodon:

No one can say he didn't believe in what he (hate) preached, I guess.

I don't think this is good! But at least he did.

28

Advocated for guns on campus and 2A and died for his cause, so props for that.

So what you doing this weekend?

28

So, can we call reaping what you sew getting "Charlie Kirked" now? Watching the media and Trump already canonizing this guy as a martyr is sickening. Seriously. "Oh... he got young people into politics... he was a cultural icon... what a tragedy..." Like, never mind that this piece of trash was just another bigoted mouthpiece for the establishment literally poisoning America. I don't have any sympathy at all for him or the rest of his ilk. Fuck 'em all but six.

Always glad to see a soldier of the ruling class get their comeuppance.

27

“gun deaths and school shootings are incredibly unfortunate but a necessary thing to help ensure our gun freedoms “ - Charlie Kirk

Glad that he is dead, time to party 😄 He got what he wanted, so no need to feel sorry for him.

26

I'm surprised anyone took Charlie Kirk seriously enough to bother killing him. Curious to see what the motive will end up being.

26

I just want to point out some things since everyone is assuming it was a leftist shooter:

  1. No one knows who the shooter actually is.
  2. Most leftist reactions I've seen to Kirk have been to laugh at his stupidity, not get murderously angry at him.
  3. No political message has appeared yet, like the one Luigi put on the bullets he used. Which if you're a leftist shooter, come on you gotta at least do that homage.
  4. The shooter killed him with one shot from a distance and got out without being caught.
  5. I've never met a leftist who knows how to shoot a gun, nevermind one with that level of skill. If it was a leftist, I'm surprised they couldn't catch them by now by simply arresting the one leftist who knows how to shoot at long distance.
24

My prediction is that another right-wing loon shit him, but even if they find the guy they'll still blame the left the same way they did with the trump shooter.

24

Busy today and I agree with most of the comments. Zero sympathy for a neo-Nazi who supported the violent MAGAts and wished violence on people who disagreed with him.

23

Can't help but find the smug PROVE ME WRONG banner wrapping around the canopy extremely funny.

23

I get the strong feeling that this shooting was done by a professional.

  • 1 single shot from over two hundred yards away
  • shooter escapes like a ghost, and it doesn't seem like the police have found any evidence he was even there.
  • a separate person seemingly providing a distraction so the shooter can get away and the police just let him go.

Makes me wonder a few things

  • was this a false flag? (seems most likely) - especially when you consider the context of trump wanting to send military into US cities and the Republicans voting against releasing the epstein docs on the same day. This shooting was an absolutely fantastic distraction and could easily be used by trump to promote his usage of military against US cities.
  • was this sponsored by someone
  • was this another country?
  • if the shooter escaped so easily, how likely is it that he does this again somewhere else?
23

Nurse friend of mine saw the closeup. She said

"It was a gusher. Given we have 5 pints of blood in our vascular system, he probably lost at least 1-2 before they got to him. Anymore video of what occurred next? At least enough for a bad brain injury"

23

I am so fucking geeked at this shit. My mom listens to this fucking roach, can't wait to see her reaction

I just can't decide.

19

Not the obituary I hope to read every morning but definitely in the top 50.

19

I'm super not stoked on this event, I know that makes me a big softy or whatever but I'm not gonna be the one celebrating blood and death and mayhem regardless of who it is.....BUT Charlie Kirk is was one of the leading big mouths pushing political discourse to this point. He's been helping fill the tinderbox and somebody just dropped a lit match into his lap.

I just hope to God they don't try to spin this into a store-brand Reichstag Fire moment since they can't get any big reaction from the Nat'l Guard presence.

18

So yesterday was the 9/11 anniversary. There was also a school shooting on the same day this piece of human garbage was rightfully shot in the jugular. I read and scour the news every day and use Google News as an aggregator. So does my wife. You had to scroll down about 10-15 stories to even get to the school shooting, and I swear... I didn't see much coverage about 9/11 at all. Not like they usually do every year. But here we are with Charlie Kirk's stupid fucking face plastered everywhere as if he is someone to be admired. 9/11 and the aftermath of the war on terror DESTROYED this country. As far as I am concerned, the terrorists fucking won. All progress made up to that point began to faulter and collapse as the divisions between people beating the drums of war in that time and those that didn't want to necessarily go to war or a multifront full scale war grew further and further. That was the straw that broke the camel's back leading us to now, where a bigoted, misogynistic, homophobic, piece of shit like Charlie Kirk even makes the fucking headlines. What a fucking time to be alive.

16

This was a dumb thing. Kirk was odious, sure, but of all the people to shoot…They didn’t even take a major player off the board, and the repercussions, the retribution, will not be worth it.

16

Whoever the identity of the assassin is, they are clearly a good marksman. According to reports, they made that shot about 600 feet away from the rooftop of a nearby building. While Kirk was stationary most of the time, they landed a clean kill to the jugular with just one bullet and then made a quick getaway. That's Lee Harvey Oswald levels of accuracy. While I wouldn't estimate that the assassin was a hired professional. They likely have seasoned experience with firearms or possibly military or police training.

14

Seeing reports of the shot being from 200 yards so this was either a professional hit or a very practiced home grown crazy.

13

remember when sitting republican congressmen turned the attempted assassination of Nancy Pelosi into a joke? like actually making jokes about it? they're so good at condemning political violence

13

This is tragic, but not for the obvious reasons. Despite him being a hateful man who added nothing of value to this world, his death will do the same. ITT there are a lot of people who Kirk has negatively impacted. While I don’t blame anybody for how they feel, no one should be cheering or dancing about somebody’s death. But here we are.

What concerns me most is that his death will not make things better for anybody. If anything, I worry that it’ll make things much worse. Those people who followed Kirk will now feel more emboldened in their ideology, and view Kirk as a martyr. Trump and his ilk will probably lash out with more bullshit EOs or enforcement of their illegal policing of innocent people.

Celebrate while you can, as we certainly live in interesting times.

12

I expected a megathread when Israel bombed Qatar, not when some white-wing guy got shot.

Someone on reddit found the t shirt, definitely the same kind. It has a flag and eagle with "land of the free, home of the brave".

It also is listed in numerous places as a "disabled veterans national foundation" shirt.

Under the circumstances, could be relevant.

Update: seems to be a gift for donating to that organization. https://www.dvnf.org/freegift15/

Of course the usual caveats - don't assume this person actually donated to them, or even is the actual shooter. But yeah, this all may be a clue why they're so slow to tell us what they know about the shooter, given that it increasingly looks like it doesn't support the narrative they led with.

If no vegetable, odds of him wiping his ass again are low.

Tinfoil hat time: Based on the close up of the shooting, it looks like he got shot right in the corrotid artery, which has a very high mortality rating. Then Trump posts "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" Trump wrote on his social media platform. If he hasn't officially been declared dead, why is Trump saying that Charlie Kirk is dead. I'm calling it, Trump had Kirk assassinated, and this will be trump's reischtag fire. Buckle up.

Be wary of fedposting, my dears. Instead, make an offering to the Dark Lord to hasten his journey to the ninth circle of hell.

Anyone has these nsfl videos? Yes, it's a morbid request, but of all shooting videos out there, at least this is of someone who genuinely deserved it

From: https://sofrep.com/news/conservative-commentator-charlie-kirk-shot-at-utah-valley-university-event/

From the audio, I would speculate that a suppressed weapon was used to shoot Kirk from his left at a fairly low trajectory. It does not appear that a hollow-point round was used, as this would have likely caused more damage at the entrance site, which was the left side of Kirk’s neck.

SOF personnel I have spoken with regarding the shooting estimate the shot may have been taken from roughly 200 meters away.

Charlie Kirk fatally shot at campus event; 'person of interest' released: Live updates

Patel said the FBI has released a person of interest in the shooting death of Kirk, less than two hours after he announced publicly that the bureau had that person in custody.

"The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement," Patel said in a post on X at 7:59 p.m. ET. "Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency."

So where did that 200 yards estimate come from?

6

The shooting occurred on the day before 9-11. I wonder if the timing had any significance in the shooter's mind.

6

This stands as a very good chance of not ending well for all of us. There will be more deaths now I fear.

5

My guess is the shooter is a disgruntled right-wing vet and that is why they haven't caught him yet, they know who he is, and they don't want to catch him and reveal the truth. If they reveal who he is, we can research his past. So, they're going to let him go.

5

Wouldn't surprise me if this gives trump the martial law excuse he has been gunning for.. Wonder if he was an unknowing participant / sacrificial lamb for a false flag to get this done and had no idea that they would throw him under the bus

I'm getting Reichtag Fire vibes

5

Welp. Probably getting martyred. Wish he died in a stupider way, like a heart attack, but you win some, you lose some.

4

I have to admit for a moment when I saw people commenting he was probably dead, I was glad. But after watching that video, I honestly feel like a piece of shit. Even if this somehow leads to something good. Which it probably won't. Blowing someone's throat out with a gun is just so viscerally awful.

4

Well done to the shooter, you are a hero.

Downvote me all you want, this fucker had it coming.

3

I don't want to be too, erm, graphic but was it a quick death? I mean, did he know he was shot?

3

I don't think that he deserved death. I do think there is irony in his political stance and how he did die. I do also think that the world will be a better place without him.

3

I just found out about the death of Charlie Kirk. The only reason I found out is because I read the Atlantic weekly on Mondays. I live in Finland, where nobody knows and nobody would care if they did. Finland is great.

2

I was kinda hoping to never see the word "Megathread" again. Does it really need to be said?

As for the news, well it seemed like this guy was kinda willing this happen. I mean I put out there I don't care for a word, this guy seemed to put out there that gun violence was OK. Oh well.

2

Someone interacted so what the heck. I have been watching broadcast tv and its not bad except for the commercials. Half of them are like what the am new radio station have. BUY GOLD!!!! Another though is hawking this book about charlie kirk. barf.

1

starting to think this was planned pretext, so he could be their martyr like Ernst vom Rath was to Kristallnacht. Also distracting from Epstein files blocked again, Russia invading NATO country and Israel bombing Qatar. It was too professionally done and this is too convenient for them all....

-1

Did he deserve to die? I don't think it's fair to say that. He was a bad person and had a lot of bad influence over way too many people.

But even if he was reprehensible, killing him will not do anyone any good. It will just be used for further radicalization. Not that they need any excuse.

-1

Yeesh, I'm sorry but the only thing this accomplishes is turning him into some kind of a martyr.

To be clear, fuck this guy, he's absolutely vile and a terrible person, but there will always be a million others waiting and ready to take his place and get rich spouting this hateful ignorant bullshit. No matter what happens to him, this doesn't solve anything. We cannot start normalizing assassination attempts.

-1

Sad. Regardless of ideologies or beliefs, that is a wife and children without their father. Sending prayers tonight.

-9

So you people are saying it was OK to kill this guy but Luigi killing that CEO or whatever he was, was OK. Something is wrong here and it's kind of scary.

-10

The most interesting thing about people like him getting killed is that the it exposes just how morally bankrupt this country is at its core. There's no morals, no values, no principles, no accountability, no self awareness, and no consistency among the populace. Social media has really fried everybody's brain.

-11

I’m sorry for his death. I disagreed with most of his points, I’m not event from the USA, but I hate seeing people celebrating the assassination of someone. What a fucked up world.

-11

Wtf is killing him gonna prove? It’ll just make a martyr of him to the right and prove to them the left is insane.

The way that shirt moves looked like it was pretty serious.

-19

To those who want to be flippant, this is not the time. The response will be terrible and become a setback that'll last generations.

-20

I just wanna say, even if this guy turns out to be antifa or whatever, fuck him. He stole the headlines from Trump-Epstein and made a ridiculous oligarch bootlicker like Charlie Kirk seem sympathetic. He didn't do this to defend Trump's victims, he did it to get attention. If he dies before getting captured, piss on his grave.

Hopefully though he's some right winger who thought Kirk was too far left. Unlikely, but if it does happen then watch how fast this drops from the headlines.

Edit: I'm now increasingly convinced this is not a leftist. Ignore this post and thread.

-23

Whenever the left presents itself as good faith opposition with a different opinion I'll remember this thread.

-37

Calling Charlie Kirk a Nazi while celebrating his death. The irony. This whole thread should be locked.
