@[email protected] ![email protected] I'm Brazilian and oftentimes the "All" feed across the entire Lemmy ecosystem feels, in fact, like a smoothie mashup between European-specific political issues and USian-specific political issues, so, when it comes to the phenomenon that the European Fedizens feel on Lemmy, not only we feel the same, but we, Fedizens from the Global South, we feel it twice!
@[email protected] Well, I'm not really into sports (I'm far detached from the stereotypical Brazilian who likes to watch Corinthians x Palmeiras/Flamengo x Fluminense/etc at Fridays while they're gathering with their friends in a bar while drinking cachaça, I'm more of a nerdy and friendless person), but indeed, soccer/football is definitely part of a cultural aspect shared among European countries (especially Germany, Portugal and Spain, as far as I know) and Brazil (as well as other South American countries, such as Argentina).
c’est parce que lemmy.world (et la plupart des instances) est anglophone, donc a un biais américain/britannique

Ashamed American here and I assume your comment was in French, and those are the only two things I have even the vaguest clue how to pronounce in French (but I had to look up the spelling!)
Funny enough, as you suggested, I popped your text into a translator after typing out the above and using my limited second language knowledge, and it turns out, I managed to get the general gist of it without the help of a translator!
Right. For example my browser did a perfectly cromulent job of translating what you just wrote into a language I can read …… unless you weren’t talking about a plot to take over the world
I hear more news from the US than my own country. Granted, my own country's politics are people respectfully discussing policy matters while US politics is like a circus and a pro wrestling league combined, with unimaginably high stakes.
we only have dirty corrupt diddlers on each level of hierarchy. The prime minister is a "gyaan raat bhar, kaam jhaant bhar" kinda guy. The media is sold. The opposition lacks strength. Politicians get way too much power for doing Literally nothing.
I believe India is in "USA but 50 years ago if smart phones were present" kind of situation
Andhbhakts are already at it. Whataboutism at its finest when you look at their "arguments" and "points". Seriously, I wonder why so many people are so deluded?
Is the Cult of Personality really so strong with BJP? Seems like it.
I think in north india, we seem to bind our identity with a politician or a party and start justifying everything they do. Plus the lack of awareness in the masses is never a good thing.
Given practically any forward looking or quality of life topic: here it’s dominated by politics, illegal program cuts, incompetent leaders selected only for personal loyalty, breaking it for the sake of breaking it. Can’t we discuss things like adults?
Even as an American and as a supporter of the freedom of these federated model, I have to wonder if there should be a mandated taxonomy. I don’t want to restrict anyone’s freedom of expression, but I want there to be some basic organization such that I can be an informed consumer
If anyone is allowed too much power, like billionaires, or any anti-democratic institution likefor-profit corporations get too big, you do not have a democracy-federated or not. It's like trying to judge the flavor of a sandwich after dipping it in human shit-it mightve been a good or bad sandwich before, but no sandwich is good like this.

People write as though Americans need to stop interacting with the platform, when the solution is really to increase European engagement, which falls on them to do.
I've blocked quite a few very popular communities because I don't understand their language. I'm guessing they're still popular? Europe as a whole, seems to be quite popular (or it was, I've blocked them).
You can also filter out keywords like Trump, Elon, GOP, etc. Generally this excludes shit from their little tribal conflict but retains post that could be of interest.
It's not even that I really want sports as much as that I get nothing but tech, politics, Star Trek, and memes on here unless I search for it and even then it's not a lot.
used to get sports yeah, not anymore. the starwarstrek stuff too is also blocked for me. that was over the top. I do really appreciate that we have the ability to hide things we don't ever want to see. that gesture alone makes Reddit useless
Some twat of a mod removed a news article, a very popular post which I linked, because "it's internal US news". It was literally from the national broadcasting company of Finland, talking about our national Moomin characters. But no.

Like I said, it's so nice of you to step forward and admit what that you're a coward who's perpetuating the things he knows to be false.

But you won't be against displacement of Ukrainian kids, because you like to suck Putler cock
Yeah, I block them as they come up, not because I have a problem with them, but because I can't speak German, and there's zero chance I'm learning German at 37.
The complexity, probably. I am decent in French, rudimentary Spanish. I think I'd go about getting a better handle on those before German. And then, if I choose to step away from the romantic languages, it's probably for Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. So I shouldn't say zero, zero isn't real, but it's close to zero.
So it's not some anti-german thing. Ich habe einen Bruder, I've got a little German, my girlfriend in high school took it, but I just don't see it in my future. In fact, besides working and taking care of my family until I die, I don't see much else.
It's a weird ass language. When you start, it feels easy because rules are rigid. Then you try to build longer sentences PROPERLY and you feel that it is cumbersome. Finally you try to talk to native speakers, and you see that native speakers also think it is cumbersome and they omit 50% of rules in dailyspeak. Then, your brain turns into a mush which cannot decide if past is ok here or do I do perfekt to not look like a posh journalist. Do I use genitive like a properboi or dativ like a correct streetboi? Oh wait, they call it Cola (female) in Germany but Cola (male) in Austria? Wait what? it's not country specific but much more local than that and you can be wrong while in a car?
Was just permabanned from Ask Lemmy for explaining Russian and Chinese bots (bots are slaves). FYI did you know it's totally okay for Russia and China to have slaves and engage in expansionism and election interference? Slaves are TOTALLY COOL and fine if they are Russian or Chinese, even if that means Russia or China expands into new territories and enslaves new people👍 Disliking slavery and war makes me a US propaganda shill somehow, even though the US is also explicitly pro-slavery (13th amendment) and pro-warfare and is operated by a Russian asset so all US propaganda these days IS Russian propaganda
I do what I can in a deeply red state where putting a democratic anything in your yard or on your car gets you attacked. When the lines are drawn I will probably be in the nearest blue zone which I guarantee will draw troops. Its the plan to occupy the cities and terrorize the populace to violence. Then they are just defending themselves against 'evil' terrorist. Its what they did when George Floyd was killed. They incited the violence and used it as an excuse to injure and kill protesters.
Sure, but the obsessive focus on econimic growth is directly responsible for their birthrate plummeting to a disasterous level. And well, they may still have a democracy and some CEO's may see jailtime there, but I have personally heard a few too many stories about the rich and powerful over there getting away with shit. Plus the country is pretty much owned and run by Samsung.
Sorry, I don't go to feddit.org due to their censorship of Israel-critical posts. Due to moral reasons I cannot accept (though I understand) this despite being a legal requirement.
If I just have a quick look at !Europe and its recent top post, first thing I see is this and in the comments a banned user, who says recognizing Palestine as a state would be like giving the Hamas a win. So I don't see much censorship of Israel-critical posts there. E: I'm afraid blocking this only leads to damaging discussions by not even joining them at the first place, because now there just are fewer people who actually want to discuss something instead of just wanting to troll.
Thanks didn’t know this, I’m blocking them too. But to be honest, also here in .world there are many people repeating zionist propaganda with no shame.
There's a beautiful sweet spot between the Americans going to bed and the Germans waking up where Its not US politics but I can still understand whats being said.
I never downvote Canada/Europe posts and I'm always happy to see the German memes materialize to take over the front page at like 3:00pm even though I don't understand 95% of the content on ich_iel. I do kinda wish there was a larger international community on Lemmy.world.
Well sure. But that’s also because everyone else learned how to use English to communicate. So it FEELS like we’re all American. It’s a common thing in online spaces.
Maar als we allemaal terug zouden gaan naar onze eigen taal, voelt het hier een stuk minder Amerikaans.
I’ve literally had lengthy English conversations with other Dutch people online where we only figured out we were both Dutch twenty comments later :D
Increase your population, elect the worst leaders, ditch universal healthcare and other social supports, and your country can contest the US in potential topics for the All feed!
Well, that was more of a rhetorical question. This new European narrative is buzzing and I get it. But I think that any move forward should involve everyone who wants to co-create new rules and then play by them. Replacing America first with Europe first is just dumb.
Americans habe a right to have their own things as well. Not everything they do needs to be global. If someone from there wants to ask other Americans or just other US residents a question and they prefix it with "Americans of Lemmy" or "US residents in Lemmy", I think that's fine.
And similarly, if an European person has a thought they know os connected to them living in Europe, it makes sense that they direct their questions to Europeans.
What I hate is when people talk like "what do you think about", but actually means for the question to be a answered by US residents only, or talk on an international forum as if there was a leftist party in US congress or senate. If you want to ask a US-centric or Japan-centric or Eurocentric question, then by all means, go for it, in my opinion – as long as the question is clearly marked as such.
I'm not European but I am Canadian and I don't know if Americans realise how annoying it is that any general community like "politics" or "news" is specifically American as per the rules. I was really hoping we'd leave the US defaultism behind on Reddit
It is so annoying and it's my biggest complaint about Lemmy. Every dang thread, the comment section is usually filled with US politics discussion even if it's a completely unrelated topic.
If Europeans really wanted more content on .world, they would stop taking month long beach vacations and spend more of their 10 hours workdays shit posting from the company toilet
Maybe if 'Muricans kept their shit to themselves. Alas, we must hear their news and politics, and/or be affected by it somehow, even if we steppen't in their country
Si Jerboa tuviera Sprachenfiltros, je culomuerto faria uso of it, für vero. De cierto, io teria menos memes, pero also menos YouAss Notícias & Politiks
Maybe the problem is that in Europe our news are mostly in local languages. So, if I post something I would need to translate. Or one would need to share something from France24 (English), BBC, Euronews (English), etc. But, the content is not as comprehensive as the national newspapers...
Just item #731 on the long list of things that we in the US do objectively worse than the rest of the world, but not badly enough to get into the news or make people want to do anything about it.
Plus, you know, ignorance. If we polled the American public with the question "The US electrical plug design is the best in the world" I think the results would make us all have the same reaction as everything else coming out of the US: Not surprised, but still shocked and disappointed to have the ugly truth confirmed.
You are confusing seeing other instances with "ALL". I just don't want to see what I am not subscribed to. Curation of all this crap just makes it so much better. And focused for that matter.
OK you wont find things then. A lot of communities I like are not going to show up in ALL. I seek them out and sub to them. Why be so lazy, it only takes a few minutes? Or simply search for your interests.
I mean if what you are looking for is where people are the loudest and places that are the busiest then by all means stay looking at all.
Lemmy doesn't have that many users and it also can have multiple subs that are the same category. So discovering those and choosing one, or both is up to you. Remember: there is no algorithm here, curation is up to you.
So precisely:
use the reddit to Lemmy sub finder if you are coming from reddit
search for things you are interested in using the community search - flyfishing for example.
click "browse communities" and you will get a list of all of them, glance through them and check the box to sub
Not that hard.
Also, use Scaled as sort occasionally. It will let smaller subs rise to the top of you list.
I default to Subscribed/New, but many of the subs I was in on Reddit don't have active communities here, so I only see a handful of new posts a day. A couple of times a week I switch to All/Hot or All/Active as a way to find new communities, or just see what's going on outside of my tiny bubble.
I get it. For what it is worth, I find contributing to the subs I care about does help spur conversation. Some people even seem grateful to have the ice broken and get people engaged. Small communities stay that way if you don't nudge them along.
Also, every now and then I just browse all the communities (not the content or comments) just communities to see if there is anything I should add to my subscriptions.
But I get that the easiest way is just click "all" and go.
Its funny cause no one in the US complained about all the brexit stuff a few years ago and we just read about neighboring politics. Shits a mess here rn and its in the news. Calm down people. You'll have your mess too.
My condolences. The middle east is a friggin inferno this time of year. Visited a middle eastern country a few years ago and I did not know heat until I spent two weeks in the month of July down there.
Was so fucking relieved when nighttime came and the temperatures lowered to 38C. :'D
I legit don't know how you guys deal with that heat. I'm in awe.
I live in western Anatolia and enjoy the Mediterranean climate. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Arabs and Russians. In the eastern part of Turkiye's Mediterranean region, people sometimes take aim at the sun and shoot because of the heat.
Can't blame them!
I've never been to turkey, but have visited some of the Greek Islands very close to turkey and I love the nature there. Generally, I have a weakness for subtropical climates. The pale, brittle mountains and the herbs growing on them and scenting the air. It's awesome. Still hot as hell, but very pretty. The place in the middle east I visited was 99% desert and murderous heat. I think one of the days we had 50C+ heat. It was like breathing in oven heat. 8'D
Agreed. When I tried Lemmy, it didn't have filters, so that was an immediate no for me. I just don't get the appeal of being fed a list, and not being able to filter out the noise.
I think there's a place for a community called 'epiceriedumemes', a play on words denoting both variety of content (like an epicerie) and spicyness (epicer).
Then again, it also really invites more bakery memes, so idk.
Interesting meme. tbf, I don't even know what a true world instance/feed would even look like. Is it possible??? Would we just have a single instance where you can choose a language option (wrapper/client type of deal) and it would layer in such a way that would translate flawlessly betwixt user post / reader / commentator??? Sounds interesting 🤔
you want my several decades old stories about accidentally buying stickers with shaggy's dick on them? it wasn't in statesia but it might as well have been, let's be honest
That's what I'm saying months now, especially with US politics and Trump, but I'm only getting downvoted!
People upvote Politics and downvotes everything else.
what? are you laying blame? or just bummed that no other nations news has a critical mass on lemmy to push stories from other nations on the all page? did you expect that to happen? or are you alleging that there is active suppression of other countries news?
What language are we communicating in? What language is the default for this platform? What language is used for the TOS? What language do the developers use? The Fediverse is a global project, but it's also mostly English based.
I dunno, whats your instance configured like? Mine defaults to German.
What language is used for the TOS?
I dunno either, whats your instance configured like? The TOS of my platform is written in German.
What language do the developers use?
A mix of Rust, TypeScript, and PLpgSQL; and also French as Dessalines is a frenchman, but for global communication I guess the team uses English (which is still an official language in the EU)
The Fediverse is a global project, but it’s also mostly English based.
Just because you overwhelmingly see English content doesn't mean that its mostly like that.
ALSO ALSO
the Fediverse is more than lemmy, you know that right?
Literally the whole point of this post is that most of Lemmy is revolves around Americans, and I'm saying that this makes sense because Lemmy and the Feddiverse at large are based around English as the primary language. Since the US has by the largest amounts of native English speakers, it makes sense that American related content dominates. This is common sense, idk what you're trying to go for here. That the Feddiverse has other languages? Okay, I never said that Lemmy or the Fediverse is exclusively English, I'm saying it's the most dominant language.
Yup, though I lowkey prefer it because EU posts tend to attract more Hitlerite takes and comments. There's just something about other Europeans that make them have an elevated level of nationalism
Lol, I just translate them and laugh along with em.
I'm American, sorry.
Now do it in German 😆

Okay but how do you feel about kabaddi?
Ouch.
be the change you want to see in the .world
People don’t post or comment and wonder why there is no content relevant to themselves
It’s a mystery /s
We do, it is just that Americans flood even country-specific subs to make it about them.
We know your country sucks, you don't have to remind us every time we open the internet.
It's like that one time, when Trump… *Family Guy cutaway gag*
That you say "your country" immediately reveals your own bias to assume that everything you see is American.
You probably think everyone posting is male as well.
Even I think both of these things despite being a canadian woman.

It’s also nice when they come into our country-specific subs to tell us how things are in the US, as we get so little news about the US.

"worldnews": American local news
It ain't even local news. What we have now, is anybody's guess.
Even as an American and as a supporter of the freedom of these federated model, I have to wonder if there should be a mandated taxonomy. I don’t want to restrict anyone’s freedom of expression, but I want there to be some basic organization such that I can be an informed consumer

I've done the same with anything sports. if it's sports related, it's blocked and the one who posted it blocked as well. I want nothing to do with it.
starting to also consider anything us related too.

It's a mess.
>US News — Midwest.social
>look inside
>it's Russians
Oh they actually specified "US"? Usually they just ramble on about the generic West.
I wish I was in Europe. Where I could pretend that news about our downfall was for a time at a distance and would never affect me.
Oh don't worry it will affect us alright, it's just that we don't have any say in whatever happens there.
Like any of us do? I'm just waiting for lines to be drawn where I know where I can stand.
You are a citizen of the state. You might not be able to do it alone, but it's your mess to fix, when all other means fail (voting, institutions etc).
You're counting on your masters to organize you, and for the needs to be violence alone.
No I'm not. I don't know exactly how you gathered that from my statement but you are way off.
Not so different after all 🇪🇺💞🇱🇷!
End stage capitalism comes for all nations given enough time.
Name one? The romans were not capitalists.
South Korea.
Still a democracy. They actually put CEO's in jail there.

Hey thats not always true! Someyimes it's someone else's!
There's a beautiful sweet spot between the Americans going to bed and the Germans waking up where Its not US politics but I can still understand whats being said.
I would love to see less America doom and gloom on lemmy. Why should we be the center of everything? More European- and Canada-centric posts, please.
I never downvote Canada/Europe posts and I'm always happy to see the German memes materialize to take over the front page at like 3:00pm even though I don't understand 95% of the content on ich_iel. I do kinda wish there was a larger international community on Lemmy.world.
Be there change you want to see, I believe in you. x
Well I suppose I'll take that silver lining then, given how our continents going for the most part
Are there no other places than Europe or America?
Nope. Only America and Europe have internet, silly.
There are. There are also Africa, Asia, Australia and Antarctic.
Why the hell do all these continents start with an a and ends with an a?!
Europe needs to be renamed Auropa
Europe is just West Asia peninsula.
Seriously, why are they considered different continents? Let's just be Eurasia. Or Aisurope.
Spanish speakers for you covered, Europa.
Well, that was more of a rhetorical question. This new European narrative is buzzing and I get it. But I think that any move forward should involve everyone who wants to co-create new rules and then play by them. Replacing America first with Europe first is just dumb.
Greetings from a European living in Japan
That is of course true, but...
And this one is.
Isn't LW Dutch?
And if we're just talking about All, mine seems to be predominantly porn and Germans
Which is frankly, a pretty European combo
I'm not European but I am Canadian and I don't know if Americans realise how annoying it is that any general community like "politics" or "news" is specifically American as per the rules. I was really hoping we'd leave the US defaultism behind on Reddit
It is so annoying and it's my biggest complaint about Lemmy. Every dang thread, the comment section is usually filled with US politics discussion even if it's a completely unrelated topic.
I wonder if people complained about the German defaultism in 1911 or 1936.
There were complaints that any serious academic work had to be in German during the late 1800s
Tell that to all the non US specific named communities created on LW, that are actually US specific according to rules.
Politics, news... All those communities are actually US specific, while having a nonUS name and being hosted on Europe. It irritates me.
Let's not bring the Netherlands into this. I can get the gist from English or German, but Dutch is right out. Weirdos.
Ah nee we liggen eruit jongens :(
I get the same feeling watching the Warner-Discovery owned Polish TV station "TVN".
Trump something something Washington
Bro who cares this is Europe?
Last phone booth removed in New York (a few years ago)
???
Yeah, with a few exceptions, if you are in Europe you can likely look at our news media and be like "Ha, well, at least I am not there"
ICE wants to know your location
Whats wrong with high speed inter city express trains?
I don't get what you mean with the trains. Just a europe reference?
the ICE is a type of trains instead of the american Immigration and Customs Enforcement Gestapo, which the OP was referring to.
Ah thanks. That was a good one in retrospect, so apologies for the ignorance, lol.
I wasn't even trying to figure out the initialism. It wouldn't have been a difficult one. My brain was stuck on "is this a misreply?"
Meh, viva chile!
Sorry for hijacking your comment... VIVA LA TIERRA QUE TIENE UN PINCHE AGUILA ARRIBA DE UN NOPAL PELEANDO CON UNA SERPIENTE ALAVERGA
Mexico is fake, did you know nobody has been able to prove the existence of mexico?
they just invented it to sell more tacos.
Obligatory "Que rechingue su puta madre el maldito Trompas!"
Updoot for alaverga!
Hello Europoors, from a fellow poor American.
Isn't LW hosted in Europe?
It is.
That doesn't stop Americans signing up with the instance and then dominating all discussion there.
Is EU not one of the distant states of USA?
Not Europe but I can relate.
There is something so ironic about this post xD what about the other continents? I have been told they have people with internet access too xD
Well, there are a lot of penguin posts here.
These are my current muted words, got more on my mastodon account
It's always funny to see Europeans complain about US hegemony
If Europeans really wanted more content on .world, they would stop taking month long beach vacations and spend more of their 10 hours workdays shit posting from the company toilet
10 hours?. it's 8.
Spoken like a non-American
pourqoi?
Because the rest of the world is tired of both of them.
Edit: Changed you to them in case you're form Haiti.
nono, it's you, I'm from Switzerland.
Just out of curiosity: Where are you from?
Mexico
Oh boy, wait until they find out about the World Series of anything.
I think they talk about the USA even more over on ML tbh, but with a difference in connotations.
IDK, I never browse All, basically. Funny meme, tho.
I look at all and wonder why Europeans can't stop talking about the US.
Maybe if 'Muricans kept their shit to themselves. Alas, we must hear their news and politics, and/or be affected by it somehow, even if we steppen't in their country
come again?
Ok, since you ask so nicel-wait a minute… ya ain't gon' fool me. I stepn't there, and even if I had, I mightn't again
The loud ones seldom know wtf is going on here.
I know most do, though.
The loudest ones probably don't care, or are annoyed by y'all, and just want you to shut up and leav'em alone already
Si Jerboa tuviera Sprachenfiltros, je culomuerto faria uso of it, für vero. De cierto, io teria menos memes, pero also menos YouAss Notícias & Politiks
I have no idea what language is this but I can read it.
Yeah, I'm guilty. Am American. Migrated to Lemmy when RIF was killed by reddit.
Maybe the problem is that in Europe our news are mostly in local languages. So, if I post something I would need to translate. Or one would need to share something from France24 (English), BBC, Euronews (English), etc. But, the content is not as comprehensive as the national newspapers...
Browse "all"? You crazy fool.
How else am I going to find entirely new topics on which to expose my ignorance?
NSF the Euros ::: spoiler spoiler :::
I'd argue these are more unsafe for Americans than Europeans, y'all are the ones having to use the death traps.
Skill issue.
People use All?
I do! I need to be more diligent about seeking out new communities and subscribing to them, but I’m an ALL sort kind of person at heart, I guess.
as a person on a smaller instance, yes i like actually seeing things
You are confusing seeing other instances with "ALL". I just don't want to see what I am not subscribed to. Curation of all this crap just makes it so much better. And focused for that matter.
what're you on about? how precisely would i find communities on other instances without browsing ALL? i'm not gonna manually search for things..
Certainly mixes things up compared to Local.
I just go to my subscriptions. Then sort by scaled.
Apparently only USA speaks English and we should all be speaking German or something to show we're not American?
Wolfenstein timeline incoming.
Nobody was complaining about the English language
Ok
Its funny cause no one in the US complained about all the brexit stuff a few years ago and we just read about neighboring politics. Shits a mess here rn and its in the news. Calm down people. You'll have your mess too.
Europeans are extremely fragile. I love my euro homies, but they are super butthurt about US world dominance.
lmao owned
Git gud
we aren't butthurt, we just dislike you
At least you’re honest about being worthless pieces of shit. But there are decent Europeans out there; you’re just not one of them.
I'm in the Middle East, but I feel the same way.
Hey now - I'm at least not there right now.
Source - just had espresso for €1
Nah, Piefed filters are great.
Agreed. When I tried Lemmy, it didn't have filters, so that was an immediate no for me. I just don't get the appeal of being fed a list, and not being able to filter out the noise.
there's two things I hate. People who are intolerant to other federated instances, and piefed users.
don't worry, every piefed user will let you know they use piefed. they're the "arch users" of federated social media.
Oh by the way did I tell you I'm vegan.
wow dude
It's from Austin powers. It's like one of the most quoted lines from Austin powers.
Let's be the change :-)
Rarely I see a French post so I have a look but it's usually random news. French memes are so boring, half of them are about bakery and stuff.
I think there's a place for a community called 'epiceriedumemes', a play on words denoting both variety of content (like an epicerie) and spicyness (epicer).
Then again, it also really invites more bakery memes, so idk.
(Please forgive my lack of accented characters)
The french memes on ![email protected] are more about stuff and less about bakery, but they're not that active lately.
Honestly, i won't have it any other way and im not from the us
SPRICH
Hey, some of us just want to have the biggest instance so we don't have to rely on people subscribing to things. (Australia, I have 2 accounts)
My bad ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Interesting meme. tbf, I don't even know what a true world instance/feed would even look like. Is it possible??? Would we just have a single instance where you can choose a language option (wrapper/client type of deal) and it would layer in such a way that would translate flawlessly betwixt user post / reader / commentator??? Sounds interesting 🤔
Or you just force everyone to get down and dirty and grind anki until they learn every language
If we do this, our kids will have to solve Spanish captchas before asking their french AI girlfriends to create mandarin memes.
Well it's not like there's much else.
Lemmy is dominated by exactly three topics and nothing else.
AI, Linux and ... Hrm ... I donk know; communism, porn or doom for third place?
Linux, Star Trek and Communism.
is the USA on Saturn now?
you want my several decades old stories about accidentally buying stickers with shaggy's dick on them? it wasn't in statesia but it might as well have been, let's be honest
That's what I'm saying months now, especially with US politics and Trump, but I'm only getting downvoted! People upvote Politics and downvotes everything else.
There is an "All" feed? I just subscribe to funny stuff.
Hallo
what? are you laying blame? or just bummed that no other nations news has a critical mass on lemmy to push stories from other nations on the all page? did you expect that to happen? or are you alleging that there is active suppression of other countries news?
>Uses an English based platform
>Is shocked most users are from the biggest English speaking country
English based Platform? Uuuuh, buddy the fediverse is a global project and hosted in several different countries.
What language are we communicating in? What language is the default for this platform? What language is used for the TOS? What language do the developers use? The Fediverse is a global project, but it's also mostly English based.
I dunno, whats your instance configured like? Mine defaults to German.
I dunno either, whats your instance configured like? The TOS of my platform is written in German.
A mix of Rust, TypeScript, and PLpgSQL; and also French as Dessalines is a frenchman, but for global communication I guess the team uses English (which is still an official language in the EU)
No wrong, as it only applies to your corner of the fediverse.
Also no, you were actually generalising with your questions about the TOS and default language. So don't even try to move the goalpost.
Yeah okay, take it easy debate bro. Either make your point or go away. Debating for the sake of it is a waste of time
bro, its not a debate you are simply just wrong and mistaken.
Lemmyverse ain't a english based platform and as its a small fraction of the Fediverse not even that is english centric.
Yup, though I lowkey prefer it because EU posts tend to attract more Hitlerite takes and comments. There's just something about other Europeans that make them have an elevated level of nationalism
Unlike the US
You think you're better than each other. We know we're better than all of you.
Is what I would have said ten years ago
Who's 'we'? Who is the all-superior? I MUST KNOW!!!!!!
USA is the world.
Thankfully not, but it is an unfortunately large part of the world
xD
Counterpoint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4ix5FImmuA
Counter-counterpoint:
YouTube is an American social media and online video sharing platform owned by Google.
Google is also American.
A sizeable portion of it, at the very least.
a whopping 4% by population and 1.8% by area. so, not really
Lul
The most important part though.
Only to spawn fascists.
Maybe we should build a big wall around the entirety of the US, because we don't want you anywhere else in the world.
