How many of you use cash?
Generally just curious how often people on here in the UK tend to use it. Personally I use it 95% of the time due to privacy concerns, easier budgeting & wanting to maintain its use. Most people my age (early to mid 20s) seem to find the concept alien & I've noticed younger cashiers are absolutely garbage at calculating change mentally.
Everything is relative
"Norwegian hospitals are free though. I was just surprised the first time I learned Norwegians pay at all to visit the doctor because I assumed we had the same system."
The French cuboid on top of a hill.
MOT (inspection) due soon needs some welding, hopefully wont be too ruinous. Some travellers im on good terms with have offered to do it so fingers crossed.
Norway in Denmark
"“It’s wonderful to be Norwegian in Denmark” is the slogan of a travel agency, that as the slogan suggests arrange vacations for Norwegians to Denmark. The TV commercials have become so infamous in Norway that it has spurred several versions of the slogan like “It’s wonderful to be Norwegian in Norway” and so on. Here is one of the adds with English subtitles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GwfACf-vk4
At least three times a month I get notes from Norwegians pointing out how naughty the slogan sounds when you look at the countries as people, and when I got three this week I decided that it was time to put it in a comic. :XD:"

Party Crasher
"Oh how often I have been asked by Estonians, “Where is Estonia? We’re a Nordic country too!”
Problem is, the other Nordics doesn’t think so. :XD:
I asked around what the stereotypes for the Baltic countries were, and the overall answer was, “Very depressed people who wear grey and live in grey houses”
Estonia have a good relationship with Finland, which is why he doesn’t hide, but he doesn’t consider her a Nordic either which is why he doesn’t let her in. The Finland’ish hat is because Estonians are seen as being very much like Finns by the other Baltics."

METAL
"Originally it was just about music and Sweden was dressed up for pop, but it then turned into a comic about the famous Scandinavian metal scene.
Norway, Sweden and Finland are known for metal, while Denmark is better known for rock.
Iceland is of course dressed up as Björk. :XD:
Oh, and Finland has that weird reddish skin-colour because a lot of the Finnish metal and rock bands I’ve seen are painted in some way."

Zombie Zoo
"Children are considered pretty sturdy up here in the North.
During the whole giraffe debate my Faroese housemate was like "I don't see why people are so offended by children seeing an anatomy lesson. On the Faroe Islands school children are shown how to kill a sheep""

Wish you were here
"Don’t ask me why Sweden and Denmark are on vacation together. They’re probably visiting some convention or something. Most likely the worst vacation ever for both of them. :XD:

The implication of that
"Still not over the American woman who was super surprised to see so many men walking around with strollers and generally looking after their children alone during her travels through the Nordic countries."

Funny Movie
If someone ever asks you if you would like to see a Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic, Finnish or Russian comedy then...well, I won’t say “Run for your life!!” but I will say “Be careful”.
Movies in the north loves to deal with serious issues like death, drugs, alcohol and other fun stuff, and even most of our comedies will leave you with a feeling that the world is a horrible place.
You think I’m exaggerating? Fine, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when you sit in the dark, crying.
A nice example is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE4ZBcK01HU It’s considered one of the funniest scenes in the movie. He doesn’t like that the cow is looking at him. And punching woman is funny too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2WrE7SKmK4

Dracula
Dracula. The vampire comes from Transylvania in Romania, Van Helsing comes from the Netherlands, and the story takes place in England. :D

Monster
When I went to England I noticed that people would apologize or even freak out if they as much as touched my little finger. At first I thought that maybe I was putting people off, but later it was explained to me that English people are just incredibly nervous about touching people they don't know very well.
I've been to conventions in quite a few countries by now, and England is the only country where most people asked for a handshake rather than a hug. :XD:

My own input: this is very true as a Brit there's a big taboo around touching anyone unless you're very close.
Can cats.
If a cat could open cans, how many cans would a cat open?

Manners are important.
I actually don't know if this is the case all over China or just some parts, but I've seen it mentioned in a lot of places.
Sports are not for sissies
So yeah. Turkey's national sport. Look it up.
Potato shaped like a potato
Last weekend I was invited to the Raptus festival in Norway and every night they served traditional Norwegian food for us.
The first and third night I was so excited about the food. It all tasted great and I was having a blast. The cured meat was a dream, the potatoes were unusually delicious, the fish was like nothing else and they had the best butter I've ever tasted.
But on the second night they served us raspeballer and I was so confused and upset. The potato balls tasted like soggy cardboard and the meat was so salty it hurt my gums, and I usually eat food so spicy Indians tell me to take it down a notch. And I wasn't alone. The other guests had to excuse themselves too, except the one American who loved it.
So sorry Norway, I like your food overall but I'll never be a fan of raspeballer.

Swedes are the stereotypical geeks of the North.
"Perkele" is one of the most common swearwords in Finland. In this case, the only word Finland can (or will) say, and he only say it on very special occasions. I’d sleep with one eye open tonight Sweden...
And it’s probably best you don’t ask what Denmark and Norway are up to. If Sweden isn’t with them and is willing to talk to Finland, it can’t be good. :XD:
For 3 he plays.
"A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays."
In Italy and Greece they have 7.
In Arabic and Turkish parts of the world cats have 6.
