Ja rozumiem, że centralny ośrodek informatyki nie chce mieć miliarda zgłoszeń typu "panie zresetowali mi telefon w naprawie na gwarancji i teraz nie mam jak się zalogować i pitu wysłać", no ale czy tędy droga? Mój punkt weryfikacyjny Profilu Zaufanego nawet nie wiedział co zrobić kiedy przyszedłem z dokładnie takim problemem.

Btw to jest oficjalny "fix" od COI, bo pisałem do ich supportu i powyższy zrzut ekranu pochodzi bezpośrednio z odpowiedzi na moje zgłoszenie.

W przeciwieństwie do artykułu podkast jest sporo mniej teoretyczny i raczej mówi o kulturze i co tam się dzieje w powiązanych branżach medialnych, o dominacji kultury anglosaskiej.

Dość pokrętny ale ciekawe z perspektywy osoby zastanawiającej się nad wszechobecnością USA nawet tam, gdzie dzieli nas parę tysięcy kilometrów.

I'm like any other European raised on the Internet:

• my English accent is more American (guys is it hard to switch to a British one?)
• learned English from American cartoons, games and websites
• I know who the current and previous mayor of New York is for some reason
• I know the American flavor of the month "thing"
• Evening news from the national broadcaster regularly covers US news, or social media posts from prominent figures in the US (doesn't do this for any other country with such regularity)
• I know the Oscars are happening from media yet completely missed Cesars

People here focus on tech a lot but I think it can't be understated how much of a cultural grasp the US has on Europe. Being born into it already being in full swing I didn't really question it. This Wikipedia article states most of the top 50 movies are decidedly American.

I started watching more sports channels to escape the news about US. I yearn for the day where I realize I've been living under the proverbial rock and thanks to which I avoided learning about the latest US flavor of the week news. I also read European Corresponded (funded by EU) to get more out of sight news from member states, but US still spills through.

I started unsubscribing or blocking communities which have too much US news. Even those that paint it in a negative light. I just don't want it to be there.

I started using the "favorite channels" feature on my TV to narrow the channel list to a curated European or my country focused channels. Stuff like niche channels from the national broadcaster (documentaries, science, history, culture) that cover my country mostly. There's some private channels that broadcast old movies and music from my country in there too. France24, Deutsche Welle, BBC (they love to cover US...). Especially the niche state channels make you think - "damn, my own culture - it's kinda cool!". I also started watching arte.tv more, there's even an app for my old Samsung Tizen OS TV. It's so refreshing to learn something local.

I also read the first chapter of "Special Relations: The Americanization of Britain?" by Howard Malchow and it seems promising. It marks the start of the Americanization with the launch of the first satellite (AT&T) which made broadcasting American content easier. I also should read a book about the "change of guard" as the global superpower between the UK and the USA, as I don't really know the details of how that panned out.

I probably sound like a .ml user. Anyway, I don't know where I was going with this thread. Just dumped my thoughts. I guess it's ironic that I'm writing this as an European, an Indian could write something very similar. Guess it's just our turn to get culturally "colonized"

Recently got my fp5 from warranty repair, it went well and just wanted to drop a quick report on how it looks. The problem with the phone was that the bottom microphone stopped working.

1. It was really difficult for me to finally find the page where you can submit a warranty repair request. After meandering through useless support pages I ended up on the page shown below, which is where you submit a repair request (the green "easy repairs" button:

2. Then you click the "diagnose issue" button

3. You are then redirected to https://fairphone.b2x.com/ where the website guides you through the warranty repair request process. It asks you for the usual stuff like IMEI but also requests you to open the Android diagnostics menu thing to check audio (my issue was about audio, so with other issues it may be different), which I also followed.

4. You then get an UPS shipping label. This part was also confusing because after you submit the repair request you get a few e-mails. One of those e-mails is a return label for when the repair is done or something? There's no label to print in that e-mail. I don't really remember super well what I did but either you open one of those e-mails that you get and go to the Cordon Electronics website and generate a label there, or you just get the label in one of the e-mails, it just may be in one of a few UPS e-mails that you get.

I didn't pay anything for the shipping (to France from Poland and back).

1. I removed the SD and sim card, factory reset my phone (this isn't absolutely necessary, just for privacy), packed the phone into the original packaging that I still had. My phone had the bootloader unlocked so on boot it flashes the scary message about "something something bootloader unlocked if you touch this phone you die immediately".

You also need to print 2 pages and include them in the package. The e-mails that you get after submitting the request also ask you to include printed proof of purchase (invoice that I just had on my e-mail acct) and a printed out page that contains info about your repair request (Cordon Electronics sends it to your e-mail, you just print it).

Slapped the UPS label I received to my e-mail on the package and threw it into a local package locker. It was shipped to France.

1. I shipped it out on December 15h, it reached them on the 19th, and they shipped it back on the 23rd. Because of the holidays the phone reached me on January 5th, but in normal circumstances you can assume that normally it'd also take 4 days.

2. I got the phone back with the battery removed so I had to pop it back in. I checked if the mic worked and it did. I also got a printed repair summary back, saying what they replaced. In my case it was the motherboard ribbon cable. It also said they preventatively updated the software (?) - I thought I had the latest available but they might've just installed it anyway.

I wonder if the repair wasn't just removing the ribbon cable, turning it 180 degrees and popping it back in, as I can see in the pictures it has a direction lmao. I was messing with the internals before and might've damaged the ribbon cable myself. It's interesting that the ribbon cable isn't available as a spare part in the Fairphone store. If it broke past the warranty, I'd probably have to look for some dodgy replacement.

Seeing as the community rules also permit asking for community recs... I have a dumbphone that I've owned for a while and I'm impressed by all the edge cases its software actually handles. I'd like to describe my findings somewhere, but I couldn't find a fitting community. There's no dumbphone or digital minimalism community, no?

There's Compact Phones but they're more about small smartphones. I don't think they'd appreciate my post about a small phone that's also trash when compared to a smartphone

Here are some European wool sock models. In some cases the "made in" country is not specified, but at the very least the company should (I didn't delve super deep to check the ownership structure, feel free to call me out) be European.

The list should contain models with 70%+ wool. Most have synthetics mixed in because without it socks rip very fast, it's not for cost saving.

A similar device that's currently released is Nokia XR21, but the only pro is that it's manufactured in Hungary

Don't bother with HMD's candybar dumbphones if you wanna escape Android, mine calls 999 (ambulance) if I put it in the backpack and it did it two times on its own (HMD 110 4G 2024), flip phones shouldn't have this problem though.
