And tonight, we feast. Is the spell finally lifting?

A Reddit comment by user “Damichia480” in the “Conservative” subreddit reads:

It too late he straight up broke every campaign promise.

“No new wars” Bombed iran and is about to fund Urkaine like Biden did

“Mass deportation” not enough and is keeping the illegal immigrants working as slaves and H1B

“I will release the Epstien files” “The flies on my desk” - Pam Bondi. Recanted everything he said and say there no flies and Republicans BLOCKED the release

Patel was hired to take care of the deep state but he is no different from them

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

RIP MAGA we been terribly lied to and betrayed by the people that shouldve served us but they devolved into being part of the establishment.

That's because the person wants the horrible things to happen and is just mad that Trump isn't following through on the horrible stuff they care about.

Obama actually deported more than trump, and Trump won't be able to catch his numbers. Trump is just doing it in an abominable fashion.

14

I think that's because Obama was turning people away at border crossings which count as deportations

That's what I have read was the reason his numbers were so high

Not that I agree with it either way but there's a big difference between that and the suffering being inflicted by Trump's policies

22

Every once in a while, MAGA is so close to getting it. But they never seem to be able to connect the dots.

25

Yeah they're really cross that he isn't releasing them and cross that he called them names for caring about it, but they show no awareness whatsoever of why he is not releasing them, and they seem completely unable to put two and two together. They keep getting 2+2=0.7.

8
lemmy.world

Oh. Oh damn. Holy shit that felt so good to read. That made my day and then some.

5
lemmy.world

Calling them weak seems to have upset some of them:

Weak? Hardly. Let me remind you we had to put up with 4 years of Biden. We campaigned. Some of us supportd you in 2016, 2020 and 2024. We stood in long lines at your rallies. Sometimes hours before. Sacrificed out time to vote for you. We lost families and friends for our political views over our support for you. We have been name called. Ridiculed. Banned. Censored. We been through it all. We still get up in the morning. Go to work. Take care of our families our businesses or farms. You have no right to call us weak if we have questions or issues about a case involving sexual trafficking and abuse. Many of us know of people who have been raped or abused. That's what's concerning. And to down play it and laugh it off as just a hoax and calling us weak is down right insulting to us and victims.

12

"devolved into part of the establishment"

No dude, they were like this the whole time, but very good at the grift.

61
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Were they really that good, though? I'm not particularly intelligent and it has been obvious for years, and mindbogglingly obvious for the last ten.

14

Yeah good point. Moderately okay at the grift. Though they did manage to grift their intended audience.

5

It worked so yeah. It's like bad music, people like it so how bad truly is it(really bad but still liked)

5
lemmy.world

Mass deportation isn't enough? If there was any doubt they want to get rid of all non whites this is it.

And anyone against giving Ukraine weapons doesn't know fuck all about history. Everyone thought they could sit out the Nazis until they were invaded.

49
LadyMeowreply
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Yeah that stuck out too, and the part about illegal immigrants working as slaves. Like, yes, that isn’t good. But the solution is to….? Deport them? What?

"You promised to be horrible to the people I wanted you to be horrible to, and it's turned out that you're not horrible in the way I wanted you to be."

44
lemmy.world

Or more like "you promised to be horrible to the people I wanted you to be horrible to. Why are you being horrible to me?!!?"

25
lemmy.world

It's wild that this person thinks there isn't enough mass deportation happening. Just goes to show that even as his face gets eaten he's still a shitty human being.

39

Attempting to hold up contradictions will do that to you. Can't deport migrant labor without destroying the base of cheap farm labor. The people hiring them are often Trump supporters themselves, and they'll lose money with crops rotting in the fields if MAGA got everything they wanted. At the other end of the spectrum, the tech billionaires love hiring H1-B visa holders to keep tech salaries down, and they're the ones buying $1M/plate dinners with Trump.

2
lemmy.world

The thing is, absolutely no one could have foreseen such a horrible outcome.

34

Absolutely no one. Literally no one was talking about it, not one person. It’s wild, how could we have possibly known!!??

16

Silicon Valley, Wall Street, J Street, and Israel are getting exactly what they asked for.

I don't see what the problem is.

29

It's worse that that, they didn't devolve into being part of the establishment, they hoodwinked you and played you for fools the whole time.

27

Damichia480, the problem called itself the solution and you're dumb enough to believe it. Fuck you.

25

While true, it's far past time for the hopelessly stupid to realize that fact and stop pretending they aren't.

2

Too bad it's probably too late. Also, they're so dumb that all the fascists need to do is redirect the idiot's anger at another minority that can't fight back. With the new executive order, it looks like we're demonizing the homeless now. Stupid timeline...

2

Too little too late. They're no forgiveness, no reunification. They were happy to kill us until it started impacting them, they can fuck off and die slow.

4

They'll learn nothing and be no better tomorrow sadly. Only bigots, braindead and billionaires are maga.

3

My main thought about all of this is that they denounce dear leader orange small hands and then try to hide among the masses again. Zero accountability for J6, zero for backing a rapist conman. Life as normal. At least when they worn the stupid red hats, it was easy to spot them and avoid them like the plague.

4
lemmy.world

I’m getting too hopeful about all this. That this will be Trump’s watergate.

I know there’s a good chance everyone stops caring but I really hope this sinks him.

24

Right there with you. "It's the hope that kills you" versus "Jesus please just let the world make sense for EVEN. ONE. DAY."

12

Trump has too firm a grip now, imo, for a Watergate to work.

Something has to cause the GOP to die to get out of this.

Honestly it's an unreasonable expectation to expect all voters to be excellent judges of character, or even understanding enough about practicalities to identify the better of two bad options. Even if these people had access to better information, would they process it correctly? I can be somewhat understanding of folks who were tricked by these lies given the context that they live in.

How do we live in a world where the best hope for positive change is the legacy of the leader of a pedophile sex-trafficking operation?

7

When youve got MAGA supporters asking for a sex offender (Matt Gaetz) to investigate a sex offender's ties to a sex offender... It really makes you wonder what they support. After all they were perfectly fine NOT charging Gaetz with paying to transport minors to other states for sex. They decided, well he resigned from a position so that's good enough, we'll find a new one as soon as we can.

4
lemmy.ca

they devolved into being part of the establishment.

I like how they think voting for people who most benefit from the system and who the system is made for and modelled after was never the mistake. Those people just weren't strong enpugh, somehow, to be corrupted by that system.

21

The system has never worked better or harder than for Donald.

4

Hands down the dumbest people I've ever personally witnessed in my life or ever read about in the annals of history.

I had no clue before the last decade that people without actual, physical brain damage could be this stupid.

20

Just realized that half the people you know are dumb as bricks, and half the country is even dumber than that.

Will they stay cracked or will they just go back to their knees. That's the real question.

17

Stay cracked. It may take years to work out, though.

No, cults do not have permanent control over peoples minds. People do leave. When there's big events like this that expose problems in the group, lots of people towards the edges will take off. Those who remain are the really devoted ones. It may take decades or even centuries to truly disappear (there's still a few Shakers out there), but MAGA doesn't have to shrink that much before it's no longer a meaningful political force.

6

Considering their attention span, that's only a real problem if taco can't come up with a good smoke screen

4

All he had to do was slow walk a sham investigation he must be seriously dementia riddled if he thinks this is preferable.

WSJ article dropping soon, and Trump just said he won’t appoint a special prosecutor. He will tweet something stupid again soon he can’t help himself.

2

Arguably, you may have already lost that bet, or close to it. Depends on how you measure the results. Trump's approval rating this week is 41%, which is 1.6 points down from last week. 5% of 41% is about 2 points.

This is one of those issues where people won't come back when they leave.

2

My relatives cannot admit the cracks exist because Mormons support this horseshit and they can’t stray from the church. It’s so goddamn depressing to see otherwise educated adults just parroting idiotic fox sound bites

3

Right, hundreds of goons daily attacking pretty much any Latino they see, including U.S. citizens and people 'trying to do it the right way' and building a concentration camp in the swamp- but that's not enough for these bigoted assholes.

5

They where told it would be done in a few days, a massive purge. For the average rasist maga fan, it would never be enough.

4

I'll believe it when I see it. Last I checked, 25% of Americans (not Trump supporters, all Americans) professed that they will follow Trump literally no matter what he says or does. That was years ago. This cult is propaganda-driven, so that number is probably higher now.

18

I’m deep in the trenches, this is the biggest crack since Jan6th. All Teflon Don has to do is shut up, do a sham investigation. Blame the dems, greta, literally doesn’t matter they’ll believe anything but he just can’t help himself from self sabotaging it’s glorious.

16

And yet J6 became a rallying cry and purity test. I've seen too much to be too hopeful that this will amount to more than that. Shed a few from the margins, galvanize those who stick with it (most of the supporters). I hope I'm wrong.

9

Yes he pulled it back but there was a brief moment like this in the fog of war before they got a narrative out where people were scrambling. But here he’s even hilariously failing to set a narrative given multiple chances, and it is a much bigger deal to most maga than something like democracy (when ‘dems cheated anyway’). Even after J6 they weren’t saying they’d felt betrayed and burning hats.

It’s over for him, at least among the qanon / techbro crowd. Unless he folds and releases something soon.

7

Source is they made it the fuck up.

77.3 million voted for Trump in 2024 out of a population of about 342 million. Not even 23% of all Americans voted for Trump in 2024.

19

Well they want someone who will follow through on the mass deportations even harder, because apparently masked ICE thugs, legalized vigilantism, bigger than most militaries anti-immigration budget, and concentration camps are "not enough".

5

There was no devolving, just the usual lies the simpletons lapped up.

14

In a sense, I'm reminded of another line from 1984 - if there is hope, it lies in the proles.

If these people actually wake up and realize what went wrong, do you think they can generate enough oomph to unseat a bunch of Republicans in the midterms?

11

if we all live long enough to see the midterms. also, the man already did a coup once, you think any of this is resolved without violence?

our last chance to get out of this with peaceful reform passed when he got elected

7

Everyone is just casually overlooking the flies on Pam Bondi's desk. Why is nobody asking who shit on her desk?

This MAGA Poster is a DEEP STATE LIBRUL OPERATIVE just like the DEMONRATS who FORCED the Republicans to BLOCK the Jeffrey Epstein Files and Fired the Judges INVOLVED In his Jailing! Jeffrey Epstein's BEST FRIEND Donald Trump is going to PROVE US RIGHT! I DO MY OWN RESEARCH!

10
lemmy.blahaj.zone

they think trump’s deportations are "not enough". they realize trump isn’t their guy, but they’ll fall into the cult of the next, worse fascist who promises them their white ethnostate

6

It's kinda hard imagining someone worse than Trump, but I guess it's going to be someone who does it out of belief and not for the grift.

2

I love that rather than believe they were lied to, they turn to the "establishment" corrupting their boy, instead of their boy corrupting the establishment. It's almost too funny if you weren't one of the most powerful nations.

6

lemmy.dbzer0.com

4

Yeah, all governments are complicit in the game, no matter the colours. My point was exactly that, these fools thought that "these" were the guys to fix things...

1

The narrative on r/conservative has been broken for days now. Normally by now they are back to talking points. Have they finally broken?

6
programming.dev

Is this just because many prominent right-wing influencers/propagandists/social media platforms are also not with Trump on this Epstein stuff? I.e. they're still just being manipulated? I also wonder if this is the result of monied interest turning on Trump (i.e. Musk and others being hurt by tariff shenanigans and all the other crazy stuff).

5
auraithxreply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Q-Anon was started to explain Trumps Epstein connections.

They’ve spent years saying how he was going to break up the pedo cabal and now he’s turned around and said it’s an Obama hoax they're understandably losing their minds.

6

whats crazy is that I distinctly remember when the Epstein shit dropped, Q went silent on it and it took a little bit of time and momentum on the case before they finally talked about it. That was something that I remember talking about with people during that time, and after a certain point many ppl assumed Q was on it the whole time or even had a part in uncovering it.

1

Do you sincerely think free will shit the bed overnight and overtook their central cortex? They follow the talking heads.

1

To all the liberals reading these diatribes from disillusioned MAGAs, the enemy of my enemy is still my enemy. Even if they feel betrayed by their glorious leader, the things he has done are still within the playbook that those people voted for.

They will never "come around" to seeing what is wrong. They just feel put out cause their sugar daddy didn't give them the car they wanted (the Epstein files). He will inevitably do something horrendous that will get them clapping along to the fascist tune again.

5
Lumisalreply
lemmy.world

The original quote, "the enemy of my enemy if my friend" isn't about befriending your enemy, it's about using them to fight the bigger enemy.

The goal shouldn't be to get them to become progressive (right now) but to push on how they were wrong, and that Trump is a lie so that they can turn on Trump.

Most of these people are terrible people. But if they're infighting it's better for humanity than if they continue lock in step.

7

That's exactly my point though. They cannot be manipulated by anyone but Trump. They want to believe in him, therefore they will accept any excuse or bullshit he shovels out in their direction. Mark my words, they will be back on his side in no time. Nothing is more powerful than self-delusion.

Edit: further to my point, we need to stop trying to do anything with these people. We need to appeal to those who will not voted, who don't engage because they're sick and tired of politics as usual. People who are getting killed by our economy and don't like Trump, but they also don't like Democrats. We need more progressives and we need to get rid of the democratic party. Because their playbook was, is, and continually will be to try to appeal to conservative voters. New York City is a prime example of why. The Democratic party will pull out all the stops to try and prevent a progressive from taking an office. But they can't be bothered to stop a conservative. Just look at the pathetic showing they gave in opposition to that Ugly Ass Bill. They took selfies and posed with baseball bats and looked shocked and horrified as nearly every Republican voted it into law. But they didn't do a single real thing to try to stop it. Their attitude is, "well we'll get em in the mid-terms"... Meanwhile millions of Americans are going to lose health coverage and billionaires are going to line their pockets with that Medicaid money.

So you'd rather lose elections on principle than try and convince them to vote your way? Doesn't sound like a smart play to me.

1
lemmy.world

They👏👏will👏👏never👏👏be👏👏convinced.

These people don't share values with you. They think immigrants steal jobs and commit all the crimes. They are extremely happy that the brown people are being herded into camps. They think that abortion clinics are killing babies on the government dime because the atheists want to eliminate Christianity. They are the ones pushing abortion bans across the country. These are not sane people. No matter how logical and fact based your argument, they will cling to their twisted views.

The way to win elections is to stop trying to appeal to these people and start investing time and money into the "socialist" policies that left wing voters are almost constantly asking for.

Both Hilary and Kamala tried to appeal to the right wing and it cost them and us. It's time to leave the right wingers in the dark where they are happy and focus on bringing the left wing back up out of the shadows because the fucking cold war is 30 years done and over. We no longer have to be scared of the words socialism and communism because there is no longer an iron curtain and the Russians are even more capitalist than we are at this point.

4

This. Exactly this.

The problem with being a rational person is that you have rational responses to ideas and problems and expect irrational people to also have those same rational responses, but all they can have are irrational responses. There is no convincing them. There is no appealing to their better angels.

3

I'm not saying appeal to them. I'm saying stop antagonizing them so you can feel morally superior.

It's easier to pass the legislation you want without telling the opposition they are morons if they don't support it.

1

And i thought the day would never come.

No matter what Trump does, his supporters find a way to justify it. Let's see this one.

I feel it in my organs. The revolution is ongoing.

4

Should get the cleaning staff to look into the flies on your desk.

4

You get maga energy and votes on your side (to, say, stop all this bullshit) by showing you are actually against the establishment billionaire dick-sucking class.

No purity, no sides. Just stopping it.

3

Bruh it’s r/conservative they do nothing but witch hunts and vet every profile before they let them post.

A bunch of public maga influencers are having similar breakdowns, as well as all the Trump supporters I know IRL.

16

There's a pretty good chance it is, BUT they almost always fall in line later anyway. Just like the religion most of them follow requires, they will do any mental gymnastics needed to rationalize why he is their messiah.
