Ban cars from populated areas

Negative equity just means you owe more on something than it's worth. So whether you have negative equity on a car loan is a "it depends". On a new car, probably yes because of the big deprecation hit as soon as the car is driven off the lot, but on a car where the loan is almost paid off probably not.

Intel to release new CPUs on old socket in early 2027 says Gigabyte - memory crisis making DDR4 desirable again

These are only "new" chips in a marketing sense.

From a tech standpoint, they're more or less the same chips that Intel was making for LGA1700 3-4 years ago refreshed with a new name and model number. They may have slight tweaks to the clocks and the core configs, but other than that there's really nothing new about them. It's the same silicon that Intel launched back in 2022.

The only reason Intel is doing this is because LGA1700 supports DDR4 and that's kept the demand for it alive with how expensive DDR5 is now.

Film Students Are Having Trouble Sitting Through Movies, Professors Say

My favorite is when they they say something like "it starts getting good in season 3". Like I'm going to watch tens of hours of a show that kind of sucks just to see if it actually starts getting good or not?

Of course, the reality is that they aren't really watching the show like I would - as in, they aren't sitting down and giving it their undivided attention. The show is on, but they're also on their phones the entire time, or it's on in the background and they are doing something else, or whatever. Probably one of the reasons why the show feels like it's full of filler - they need to make sure that someone that's only sort of paying attention can still follow what's going on.

My understanding is that this isn't what happened.

Meta laid off a bunch of employees. Meta claims they used an AI to gauge employees' productivity as a basis for who they laid off. The employees are accusing Meta of laying off employees who took too much medical leave.

Your reward for a job well done

That's one of things that bothers me about how AI is being pushed in the workplace. Assuming AI actually does manage to help me get my work done faster, it's not like I get to home earlier or work less days. I'm just going to get more work piled on me.

It's the explanation for why the Allies could spot their planes in situations where they would otherwise not be easily visible. If it happens a few times you might write it off as luck, but if it keeps happening over and over you might get suspicious.

With that said, I don't think they really bought the carrots thing. Both the Allied and Axis powers knew about radar and how it worked. It's just the Allies figured out how to build and deploy their systems first.

My main problem with the current crop of Linux phones is, or at least it's my impression - is that they still struggle with the basic phone part. As in network connectivity (at least in the US), making and receiving calls, SMS & MMS, and VoLTE support. If there's a Linux phone where that stuff is solid and works, I'd buy one. I don't really care about the whole app ecosystem - I barely have any apps on my Android phone now.

Meal prep

Boiling a mug of water by blowing hot air on it is going to take a while. My guess is if someone was to try this (which I don't recommend) it's going to take longer than 10-12 minutes.
