No, you don't escape this one Microsoft!

So anyway, the owners of the company I work for had a global call last week on Wednesday at 5am local time. I was ready with a 15minute alarm so I could have time to spare. Just find the item on my teams schedule and click the link thought.

So Wednesday comes, I wake up, run to the laptop, plug in my security dongle hit the on button... The thing takes a fucking 4 minutes to start for whatever the fuck reason. Hmm ok, I have a few more minutes, no problem! Click the.... Fuck! It's just a photo!!!! Ok find the original invite! Found it! Click the link! Surely this takes me directly to the meeting, right? Right? No! Its a fucking download! Oh ok where did that shit go? To the downloads folder! Ok click! Ok now getting into the meeting! Finally! Shit! No volume! Where's the un-mute! The fucking unmute! What's she saying? Fuck! There! Done!....

"So that's how you can enter information into our database... If you have any questions feel free to contact me directly blah blah thanks for joining, good bye!"

So I scrambled to the link to find a make-up session. Found it, signed up. Now for 38 minutes ago local time fucking midnight. Same fucking ordeal to get to the stupid fucking teams meeting for a fucking recording!!!!!!

Holy fucking donkey shit! They made me do all that for a recording that could have just been sent as a link for me to see at my leasure at any moment during a normal business hour???!!!!!!

I need two uncomfortable foldable chairs, duct tape and a bat. Not a corked bat. I need a 2X4 with a handle or a lead pipe. One chair is for the asshole who figured out a way to make computers so fucking useless at Microsoft. The other is for the total wackjob who thinks you need a midnight or 5 am meeting to watch a 10 minute video recording. You both should be very ashamed of being people. Heck, no, be ashamed of being animals at all. Things that are not inanimate. Holy jeezets you both are so stupid!

Ok, now I'm going to sleep. Goodbye! Have a wonderful day y'all!

I went to a zoo today

I posted earlier to a different sub about going to a zoo. Not a huge fan of zoos.

Anywho, it's a zoo where you can feed all the animals that are held captive live there.

The infuriating part was when I realized, standing in line to buy food to give to an animal, that my admission price helps to cover the cost of food. Then I paid another premium to buy that food again, only to do the job of a zoo employee and feed the animals.

I paid twice to do the job of a zoo employee. For 3 people.

I found pre-installed (unremovable) malware on my phone, and ESET doesn't seem to be checking system apps... (Ulefone Armor 24)

TL;DR: If it's also integrated into firmware, it has full-device access. If it's just this specific app, per Kaspersky, it still has "elevated privileges" and can install crap. It cannot be disabled without breaking the UI.

Doing a scan without copying the apk:

As you can see from main screenshot, the APK would have been accessible for scanning.
I copied it to Download directory as that one gets real-time monitoring, but it will pick it up elsewhere after a scan as well.

Anyway:
VirusTotal report

Found 4 months ago by Kaspersky

And I found my device in list on blog post from Sophos. Unfortunately, they only provide a partial list, as they mention this affects "nearly 50 models".

From listed domains, with help of strings I found launcher(dot)szprize(dot)cn, although it doesn't seem to resolve to anything at the moment.

Also something interesting from Kaspersky:

When integrated into the firmware, the malware behaves differently depending on several factors. It will not activate if the language set on the device is one of Chinese dialects, and the time is set to one of Chinese time zones. It will also not launch if the device doesn’t have Google Play Store and Google Play Services installed.

Now what?

I've been using it for nearly 2 years, so there's that...

I am thinking of contacting the retailer I bought this device from, as it's still in sale. But I am not sure if they will care about it. Also, the only way I seem to be able to contact them is via tech support, so there's the chance of just getting a copy-pasted answer.

As for my particular unit, I'll probably try to update the software to newest version to see if it's still (visibly) present.
Unfortunately, updates on these devices are unstable as fuck, so I'll have to deal with that. I also hope it won't make me loose access to MediaTek EngineerMode band selection as that's something I quite want to keep using.
Or perhaps try to return it under warranty.

Since QuickStep also controls navigation (both gestures and 3-button) it can't even be disabled even if I used alternative launcher.

Over-Sensitive HP

This is going to require some story.

Sometime ago, I bought what was said to be an unused HP LaserJet M234dwe printer/scanner that someone bought for over $200 in 2021. I got it for $10 at a thrift store. Whether or not it was unused, that's anyone's debate (it didn't have the box so right away I was skeptical). What I thought was a great deal, in hindsight would later turn to be frustrating with a company that has long degraded from its simpler days.

I didn't know it already have a toner in it, which made me having to go find and buy another one a spared cost. So, about a few days ago, I went to try and get it to print. It wouldn't print. It'd just turn on, seemingly budge the paper inside and won't do a thing. I tried everything I thought I could, from using HP's bloated mess of an app they have called HP Smart (or HP Dumbingly Frustrating) to trying to work around the basics of making the printer work with Windows 10 with proprietary drivers.

Still wouldn't print a single page, both testing and just a demo page. So I call HP tech support and I had two rounds with them, both ending in unresolved cases. I was informed that because this machine is out of warranty, which I didn't care, and if I needed extended support, I would have to pay $20 for paid technical support. Additionally, the other option was to pay monthly for a newer printer.

Both options were out of the question for me, because the problem wasn't just because the printer wasn't printing, but also the HP shitty app couldn't be bothered to register my printer because there's some unknown connection timeout with their shitty cloud servers or something. So I took to the HP site to try and bring the issue there. During the midst of my frustration, I worked around what I could say about how utterly useless and careless HP is. That is what lead to the banning here in this image and I don't regret it.

This is what HP has degraded to, all this time. Moral of the story - get a printer that's not HP.
