Tiktok users found body pile in CECOT El Salvador Megaprison

I'm prepared to be downvoted to oblivion over this but... I don't think it's a pile of dead bodies and here's a bunch of reasons why.

I feel I need a disclaimer like: I'm not an idiot, I have grave concerns for the inmates and CECOT and I'm certain that many have already perished due to violence between inmates or malnutrition or even violence from guards, however... I just don't think this is a pile of dead bodies.

  • It's never aliens - Sensational blurry images are never what people think they are. You know, the face on mars, et cetera.

  • There are so many more likely things - It could be a pile of chairs, or uniforms, or boxes, or a tarpaulin.

  • They wouldn't make a pile of bodies for us to see - This thing is a cash cow for Bukele. They will be doing their best not to fuck it up. Any idiot would know that if you make a big pile of dead bodies oozing blood outside it will show up on some pesky satellite images.

  • They wouldn't make a pile of bodies outside in the sun - A dead body is a logistically challenging thing to deal with. A pile of dead bodies even more so. Leaving them in the sun even just for several hours would make the whole thing so much worse. The decomp gasses in the digestive tract would make all the dead bodies shit themselves.

  • Industrialised Killing Takes a Toll - Admittedly I don't know a lot about this but the nazis learned killing too many people in a repetitive waymakes a soldier "undisciplined" or unmanageable. I don't want to go into detail but they set up a system where the same soldier never saw the same person alive and then dead. If they were systematically killing inmates this wouldn't be the system.

Kindergarten forced to back down after proposing to charge parents $2,200 for their own children’s art

Before everyone piles on, it's probably worth understanding the context.

Yes, this was a daft idea, doomed to generate outrage, and outrage is an appropriate response.

However, as the article says, this non-profit was insolvent. This type of non-profit is not flying a CEO around in a private jet. Their entire budget for the year was $400k. Enough for rent, several staff, snacks and art supplies for kids.

The budget was very likely prepared by a volunteer, with limited skills and experience.

It's often also unclear what an organisation's total debts are. It's not at all uncommon to realise an error has been made in understanding an award or something and suddenly the centre owes 5 years back pay for underpaid over time or some such.

Suddenly the centre is insolvent and is required by law to cease it's activities.

At this point someone has had the misguided notion that the problem can be fixed by coercing parents to contribute towards the debts.

Explaining the problem to parents and asking for donations would've been fine, but obviously they wouldn't have received $40k in donations so it would've been unsuccessful.

Tying the request to the kids "art" is just poor taste all the way up and down.

So yeah, it's offensive, but it's not nefarious, and while it's really daft I can at least understand how it happened.

RFK Jr. Is Already Taking Aim at Antidepressants

Kennedy said he planned to dedicate money generated from a sales tax on cannabis products to “creating wellness farms—drug rehabilitation farms, in rural areas all over this country.” He added, “I’m going to create these wellness farms where they can go to get off of illegal drugs, off of opiates, but also illegal drugs, other psychiatric drugs, if they want to, to get off of SSRIs, to get off of benzos, to get off of Adderall, and to spend time as much time as they need—three or four years if they need it—to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities.” The farm residents would grow their own organic food because, he suggested, many of their underlying problems could be “food-related.”

Hol up. They've gotten rid of all the people who used to pick fruit in rural areas, and now they want to send arbitrarily diagnosed "addicts" to these rural areas to live for "free".

Andrew ‘had 40 prostitutes brought to Bangkok hotel’

While it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that Andrew would want to do this but it does surprise me that his handlers allowed him to do it so brazenly.

Even not-particularly-wealthy people can go to a resort / brothel in South East Asia and see 40 prostitutes in a few days if that's their desire. Everyone involved would very happily turn a blind eye.

However, doing it on a state visit is essentially the production and provision of kompromat.

It's interesting that the bangkok post has chosen to publish this now.

Thailand has strict Lèse-majesté laws prohibiting any negative commentary about royalty. I wonder if that applied to foreign royalty and if so, whether it no longer applies now that Andy is no longer a "Prince".

Exclusive: Trump Voter 'Almost Died' After Being Detained by Border Agents - Newsweek

Ok so everyone is entitled to basic rights, but if you're a Trump voter my sympathy gets turned way the fuck down.

If I'm reading the article correctly, the guy suffers from high blood pressure and as such he should avoid excessive stress. He asked for medical treatment but when told that he would be under guard at the hospital and then returned to detention for questioning after he recovered he declined treatment.

I'm not a doctor but my understanding of high blood pressure as a chronic illness is that it's a long term game. High pressure on your arteries and heart over many years increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. It's less relevant as a short term problem.

To point out the obvious, this guy was very happy for Trump to be mean to everyone else, just didn't think he was included.
