Gran Turismo 7 for me.
A helldiver. It'll be exciting, but that means I have a life expectancy of roughly 20 minutes on average.... With my skill set it'll be closer to 30 seconds.

Dr. Adolph Hutter.
I'm guessing that man has an immaculate signature that makes sure it's super clear that there are two t's and no l's in his last name.

Time is a circle. That's why clocks are round.
I don't frequently have these kinds of debates in public, but the closest I've ever gotten to talking a vaccine skeptic out of their position was when I came from the angle of, "these shots are free because insurance companies know they work, and they would rather eat the cost of 100 vaccines than have to pay for every hundredth person to be hospitalized with the flu for 3 days, which costs THEM $40k."

This is amazing. I love the sense of "There's an emergency. Quick, drop your pants and let's go!"
I also love the photos that show people in clear ponchos. Like, "I understand the functional benefit of clothes, but it has to be clear as a matter of principle."

Straight men, what's the weirdest thing you've been told you can't do because it's gay?
Around 2010ish I was thoroughly enjoying some Bells Two Hearted and other IPAs. My brother (2 years older) tried arguing that bud light is man's beer, and my beers were fruity and girly. It certainly doesn't matter to me, but the irony of choosing bud light, out of all the macro beers, is just 👨🍳😘>

I'm not quite familiar enough with Dilbert to be able to tell which "defining detail" was fucked up. Any hints?

What good thing just happened in your life?
We switched my son's Pre-K for a number of reasons. Mostly because they didn't have room for him in the older class (where he belongs), but also because it was kinda trashy, kinda franchisee, and every day we dropped him off he was crying and clinging harder and harder. The new school is just some lady running something out of her house.
A friend asked him what he's thankful for last night and he said, "My new school" 😭😭

Things Drivers Have Sacrificed for Kids
To the right column, I would add, "Occasionally getting stuck behind a school bus, and not being allowed to pass as the stop every block". It's not much, but I think having 1 thing in the right column is a little bit funnier.

Benefits of RSS? Where should I look for trustworthy feeds?
For me, I saw very little benefit to RSS until I hosted fulltextrss. Most of the feeds I subscribed to, the RSS feed just gave you the headline, and made you load up the full website and all the ads to read the article. They don't really want you just skimming the good stuff and skipping the ads.
Fulltextrss basically loads in the full articles, pictures and all (if you so choose). It means I can read stories from all the sources I want, without really leaving my RSS reader.

Man, I love putting my kid to bed.
Yeah it is amazing. My wife breastfed both of our kids unti they werel about 2 years old. I can help with bath and story time, but it means I miss the absolute best cuddles. There are a lot of advantages to not being tethered to the child, especially when bedtime isn't going smoothly, but I'd give it all up for those sweet sweet cuddles.

If you had to choose a new _lingua franca_, what language would you pick?
I feel like Indonesian is a decent start. There are already a lot of people speaking it, and it's REALLY easy to learn.
There's no conjugation and no cases/agreement. I'm a native English speaker and picked up a functional amount of Indonesian in a matter of months, just from reading a couple books before we went.

YSK Tips for a Winter Storm
If you're stuck in a parking spot, and you can't seem to rock your car out, turn OFF your traction control! (It should be a button with a car and wavy lines that you probably have never pressed before). The traction control takes power away from slipping wheels so if they're both/all slipping, you get wheels that barely move as you're stepping in the gas.
Just remember to turn it back on once you're free

I've heard that encryption is only for criminals, and nobody here has been using encryption, therefore nobody in the Epstein files are criminals. Case closed.

What are some things I can do during an ad break?
Have you ever played on boardgamearena? It's a website where you can join a bunch of board games with people around the world. When it's your turn, you have a certain number of hours or days to make your move (kinda like old timey chess by mail) and then go back to your life. You can be in many games at a time.

We had this in our local, small town police department. Female police officer spoke up and blew the whistle on somebody that was accepting BJ's to let tickets slide.
The department "downsized", let her go, then re-upsized to hire a different person back. Then they said her allegations were just in retaliation for being let go. Then she sued for wrongful termination and I THINK she ended up winning.
I might have some of the details mixed up cause this was all going down JUST as I was moving into the town.

My wife forbids me from getting any large appliances for any 1 thing, so I could never convince her to get a ride cooker. Instead we got an InstaPot that we use exclusively to cook rice. It's way different (trust me)

What password manager do you recommend?
After 2 years of ignoring the fact that I use a duplicate password in over 100 places, and that password has officially been in breaches, I finally came to terms with the fact that it was time to find a password manager and generate unique passwords. I didn't do a ton of research and ended up with bitwarden. If I opened this thread to see a bunch of people ragging on bitwarden I was prepared to be VERY upset.

YSK that United has significantly escalated their war against basic economy passengers
I learned this about United this summer. Except the language they used didn't specifically rule out roller bags, it called them "full-sized carryon". I showed up with a checked bag and a small carryon. The desk agent told me wheels make it a "full-sized" regardless of the dimensions. Fortunately, I was able to stuff a bunch of stuff a bunch of my crap into my checked SCUBA bag, and repack my regs and underwear into the backpack I was bringing anyways.
Note: This was on an International flight so I REALLY didn't appreciate feeling like I was flying on a budget airline.

“He Wore Two Bibs.” How a Boston Marathon Couple Got Caught Cheating
I freaking love the dedication of Marathon Investigations. On one hand, I think, "it's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it." But on the other hand I think, "Does somebody REALLY have to do it?"
