I've heard good things about Project Reclaimer at least

Reply in thread

This happens to a lot of people in one way or another. Family traditions, vacations to the same place or event, favorite restaurants, and on and on. Once you recognize the pattern it is freeing to be able to say goodbye to the things that can't be recaptured, remember them lightning in a bottle they were, and move on.

Wouldn't turn down a halo lan party though.

Games you fell out of love with.

I just started skyrim for the first time in December. Stealth archer obviously and then a mage character. I've been surprised how much fun it is. Clearly lacks depth in a lot of areas but damn there is a lot of it. Definitely think I missed out on playing it when it was released.

Prions. Misfolded proteins that manage to get into your brain and just wreck shit. I don't handle anything that would be contaminated or anything but just the idea of this non-living thing that will just replicate and cause havok - horrifying.

Your all-time favorite game? Let's discuss the best options!

Super Mario World - just a fun game. Lots of little secrets and fun to speed run.

Titanfall - I played an absurd amount of this one and really wished there was a 3rd one. 1-2 remind me of the pattern seen in trilogys where 1 sets the stage, 2 deviaties pretty far and polarizes fans and then 3 uses the best of both while trying to feel more like 1. (Mario 1-3, Halo 1-3). My favorites in this pattern tend to be 3 so I'm disappointed I never got Titanfall 3.

Pubg - when it was new. Lost me years ago now but that first 6 months to a year was awesome. So many crazy games and absurd fun.

Zoomers & Boomers are the same

Yep. Why bother learning when it won't work tomorrow. I miss software that was bought and didn't change, says the old man to the cloud.

And I'm pro learning but for most things I'm not a pro user. So my flow is learn something, think wow this is great I can do so much. Set it aside for weeks/months. Come back to it, download a huge update and and spend the time I had to work on it waiting. Come back again later and find out I need something else or whatever. Eventually it works but now I the thing I wanted to do has changed. Pretty much gave up on pcs years ago. Am looking for one for the first time in years because I actually want to try linux again.

TIL that in 1975, after Gillette introduced a two-blade cartridge razor, Saturday Night Live aired a fake commercial for a three-blade razor. Gillette introduced one in 1998. In 2004, a satirical ...

Get a safety razor and a variety of blades. You might need to try a bunch of blades to find the ones you prefer but what works best for you will depend on the razor and you. You don't have to spend tons of money on the razor but you can. I use an old (1950s or something ) Gillette I found on ebay like 15-20 years ago. See nicer new ones but mine works so I just keep using it. Anyway, razor barely matters, blades depend more on you than anything.

Edit: Just looked on ebay. Lol, vintage ones are spendy now - I think I paid a couple bucks for mine. Did see a new stainless steel basic version for under 15 bucks. I'd start with something like that and a variety of blades.

What are some things for a new home owner to consider getting early on?

Create an email address for the house and use it for everything house related. Contractors, mtg payments, instruction/owner's manuals for appliances, etc, all get sent here and it's very helpful. Also suggest doing a first look for manuals now. When you need to fix your water heater - even if you opt to pay a contractor - having read the manual first will put put you in a much better position to understand what needs to be done or what you are choosing to pay for.

Tool wise I'd include a couple pipe wrenches plus a 90° angle one for under sinks. The actual ones are probably less useful for plumbing inside the house but are just useful tools. A pickaxe is useful for small irrigation or electrical trenches. A pry bar for - you'll find a use. Someone else mentioned a hand truck which is really handy. Basic electrical tools, lineman plyers, wire strippers, an electrical tester. Some basic chemicals, acetone, alcohol, bleach, etc will come in handy for cleaning/prepping (don't store acids around tools/metal unless you put them in an airtight container as an acidic pH in the air causes rust). Other basic consumables are good too - a tube of caulk, electrical tape, couple boxes of screws and nails, plumbing tape, a small tube of epoxy, I tend to buy an extra of these kinds of things as I see them so that I have them when I need them. Once you have all this and other basic tools it's awesome to have a project and be able to do it without needing to go to the hardware store.

Not something you can just go buy but I keep an eye out for jars and drawers of junk at yardsales and thrift stores. Have bought a couple of little Grey boxes with the 30 tiny drawers full of odds and ends someone else collected - super handy. All kinds of oddball stuff, hinges, springs, rubber gaskets, cotter pins, that have saved me many trips to the store.

Outdoor bug lights - yellow bulbs that don't attract bugs. Not sure why I'd never heard of these but they make the patio more enjoyable. Not gonna keep bugs away but at least there isn't a swarm of them.

Good luck!

What's the Holy Grail item in your hobby?

This is really interesting. A few years ago I bought this American Chestnut salt and pepper set. The guy who made it did tell me that he got the wood from a beam out of a barn built before the Civil War but I didn't realize why. I just thought it was a really good looking salt Shaker and pepper grinder...

Apartment rents are on the verge of declining due to massive new supply

Reply in thread

I did once. I was young and broke and I saw another apartment in my same building on craigslist for less than I was paying. Tried to call my landlord (who was one guy and not a giant Corp) but he wouldn't return my calls. So I sent a check for 50 bucks less via certified mail - he called me the moment it arrived and let me get away with it. That apartment was 550 and a drop to 500 made a difference for me then. Now... That same shitty apartment probably rents for 2k a month.

I think the exception proves the rule though so I won't make you eat any paint chips.

Cooking Challenge #002

I'd change from 'well stocked' to what is in your pantry.

  • Easy mode : What is in your dream pantry.

  • Normal Mode : What is in your pantry after a typical trip grocery shopping.

  • Hard Mode : What is in your pantry right now (pics or it didn't happen).

  • Nightmare : Only items in your pantry you haven't used in the last 2 weeks.

I tried Turtle Beach’s new Stealth Ultra pro controller and the Elite Series 2 should be worried

Reply in thread

If hall effect sensors used for the thumbsticks do what they say (no drift) then maybe they do. I have v1 and v2 elite controller and both have bad drift. The v2 is so bad it's unusable so I use the v1 and just deal with it because I refuse to ever spend another penny on a controller that is just gonna drift again. Hopefully MS will adopt this for all controllers though.
