After Federation diplomats meet with the Klingon and Romulan governments, the Enterprise is dispatched to investigate why ships disappear exactly every 27.3 star years from a certain sector of space. Shortly after the Enterprise arrives, Commander Spock detects a strange signal coming all the way from the Taurean System at the far end of the sector - a signal that sounds like music. Captain Kirk orders the ship to follow the signal to its source. Once there, it appears to Lieutenant Uhura that all the men on the bridge have become entranced by it and calls Nurse Chapel to observe. Despite her vocal concerns, Kirk leads an away team down to the planet and are drawn to a temple filled with beautiful women who welcome them. Shortly after they arrive, they all lose consciousness and are taken to chambers by the women. With the away team disabled, and the men still aboard the Enterprise becoming unresponsive, Uhura assumes command of the Enterprise and assembles teams of female security officer to prevent more men from beaming down to the planet while her and Chapel take an armed away team down to the planet to rescue their missing crewmembers.

"What power supports our battle yet starves our victory?" - Commander Kang

After responding to a distress call from a colony of over 100 people, that now seems to no longer exist, a damaged Klingon Battlecruiser led by Commander Kang enters the system demanding Captain Kirk pay for what they've done to his ship. Kang claims he responded to a distress call as well, and neither side are aware of what happened to the other. Kirk tricks Kang and his men aboard the Enterprise into the waiting arms of security and Commander Spock evacuates the bleeding batlecruiser before destroying it. At first, Kirk tries to reason with the Klingons. But primitive weapons magically appear, which replaces diplomacy with combat and leaves parts of the Enterprise under Klingon control. Communications stop working, a majority of the crew becomes trapped, and the Enterprise goes to high warp on its own while the crew starts to become uncharacteristically bloodthirsty. With the ship speeding out of the galaxy, everyone fights the urge to surrender to blind hatred while fighting for control of the ship.

Several missiles are detected approaching the Enterprise and are shot down. The source of those missiles turns out to be a giant asteroid hurtling through space under artificial propulsion. Deeper scans of the asteroid reveal inner layers with a breathable atmosphere. Commander Spock plots the course of the asteroid and finds it will strike the planet Daran V, inhabited by over 3 billion people, in about a years time. The impact would not only kill everyone living aboard the asteroid, but everyone living on Devon V. Captain Kirk feels obligated to beam into the asteroid to investigate the situation, and offer to help its occupants if possible. Meanwhile, Doctor McCoy confides to Kirk that he is now terminally ill, but insists on joining the away mission despite his condition.

The Enterprise is following an alien ship powered by what appears to be ion propulsion. Commander Scott marvels at the design and wonders what a species who created such a craft could teach humanity. Suddenly, the occupant of the craft beams herself onto the bridge of the Enterprise and immediately incapacitates everyone there, then everyone else aboard the entire ship, merely by pressing a few buttons on her wrist controller. She walks over to Commander Spock and examines him, specifically his head. When the crew comes to, Spock is missing and Doctor McCoy sends an almost frantic message to the bridge that Captain Kirk comes to Sickbay immediately. Spock is there, barely kept alive by machinery. Somehow, Spock's brain has been surgically removed. Unless it is somehow found and reattached, even all of the technology onboard the Enterprise wont be enough to maintain his body. With less than 24 to save Spock, Kirk gambles on a hunch as to where that ion ship fled to in the seemingly vain hopes that whoever removed Spock's brain knows how to put it back... if they're even willing to do so.

I recently started a rewatch of DS9. And it's going so well I found myself in S5 in no time. There are a bunch of mirror universe episodes in that series. I used to hate those when the show came out. I look at them as interesting diversions now. Kind of like making a Muppet Show episode.

So if we put to the side the notion that MU episodes are acting bones thrown to the cast by the writers and producers. And that this is sci-fi and you have to suspend disbelief: how come most of the characters in the show DS9 have mirror copies? If we just look at relationships: MU's Sisko and Jennifer hooked up but had no children. MU Smiley was never forced to eat Sushi or Cardassian food with a botanist of our acquaintance. There is no Molly in the MU. Kirayoshi hasn't been born yet where I am on the rewatch. If Molly avoids all temporal trap doors and grows up, beams over to the MU for whatever fabricated reason, she'll come back disappointed. Same with Jake and his offspring. That's just three examples of people who don't appear in the MU. What are the odds that Bennifer, Kira, two Daxes, Bashir, Quark, Rom, Nog, Garak, Odo, Brunt, O'Brian - all of these guys make an MU appearance. All their parents met up and procreated (or they got shot out into the universe for fun by the MU great link). This doesn't seem likely. We have three examples of a group of people of about a dozen main and recurring characters who didn't get born in the MU. The family tree is cut off in about 10% of the characters I listed. That sort of variance must accumulate through time. Identical MU copies should be the absolute exception, not the norm.

If we go to Disco, MU I'm gonna name you Saru is there. In a universe where they eat Kelpians. What are the odds his parents survived long enough to meet and make a really tall baby?

How can this make Star Trek sense?

Is the Vulcan mind meld the ultimate crime or yes?

It doesn't just violate the body

The Federation has finally been allowed to send a representative to Gideon, a very secluded planet that wishes to become a member world. They have requested Captain Kirk, specifically, so the Enterprise has been dispatched. But when Commander Scott beams Kirk to the designated coordinates, he never arrives in the council chambers. Commander Spock immediate begins investigating the Captain's disappearance while the Gideon Council play bureaucratic games with him. Meanwhile, from Kirk's perspective, he was never left the transporter pad. Except now he's the only person aboard the ship. The transporter room, the engine room, the bridge, are completely empty, until he finds a young woman wandering the corridors.

"Someday I'll learn." - Captain Kirk

The Enterprise is escorting two robot ships containing a critical supply of Quintotriticale for Sherman's Planet, which is suffering from crop failures. Klingons have been reported in the area and there is intel that they are testing a new weapon. Sure enough, A Klingon Battlecruiser appears, firing on an unknown ship of Federation design. While attempting to intervene, the Klingon ship engulfs the Enterprise in a kind of stasis field which prevents them from moving or returning fire - the rumored super weapon. Captain Kirk uses the robot ships to outflank the Klingons which forces them to overexert themselves, allowing them to rescue the occupant of the ship they were chasing. But satisfaction from causing the Klingons to turn tail quickly leads to dismay when they realize the person they rescued is Cyrano Jones... and a giant litter of Tribbles.

The Enterprise officers are conducting a diplomatic mission on Dramia. Just as they are about to leave, Doctor McCoy is served with an arrest warrant and taken into custody. He is charged with causing a planet-wide plague on Dramia II, which occurred shortly after he left there 19 years ago. McCoy is to be put on trial for the mass murder of every single inhabitant of Dramia II. Unsatisfied with the Dramen's conclusions, Captain Kirk and Commander Spock return to the Enterprise and make best speed for Dramia II to conduct an investigation of their own. But Dramen justice is swift and harsh. What little time McCoy has might not be enough to prove his innocence.. and he isn't completely sure he is innocent.

The Enterprise is sent to investigate a phenomenon near the edge of the Milky Way galaxy. Once they arrive in the Pallus 14 system, they witness the planet Alondra being consumed by a moving cloud of some sort. Worse, the cloud seemed to change direction directly towards the planet Mantilles, home to 82 million people and no way to evacuate everyone in time. In order to buy Mantilles time to save as many people as possible, Captain Kirk races to intercept the cloud while Commander Spock slowly discovers that the cloud may be alive.

The Enterprise finds a derelict ship with a single survivor while patrolling the Federation side of the Romulan Neutral Zine. That survivor turns out to be none other than Carter Winston; a philanthropist and explorer that went missing years ago. While everyone is excited to get to meet a living legend, especially Winston's fiance who happens to be serving aboard the ship, Doctor McCoy is bugged by how Winston's medical examination readings are slightly off. He initially writes it off as equipment error until random crew members (including himself) start suffering from narcolepsy and reportedly doing things they don't remember doing.

The Enterprise has returned to "The Time Planet" which contains the Guardian of Forever - a place where all points in time converge to conduct survey missions through time. After returning from ancient Orion, Captain Kirk and Commander Spock are surprised to find that no one remembers who Spock is. Least of all the First Officer of the Enterprise, an Andorian Commander named Thelin. After consulting computer records and learning that there was a Spock on Vulcan that he died at a young age, Spock requests the Guardian of Forever to allow him to travel to Vulcan in the past where he must prevent the death of his younger self without causing any additional changes to the timeline.

The Enterprise is on a starcharting mission when it gets caught in the gravity well of a dead star. Lieutenant Sulu manages to pull the ship into an orbit around the negative mass of energy. There, a fantastically large and damaged alien ship comes into view. It registers as completely dead, so Captain Kirk and a team beam aboard to survey it. They find that all of the damage to the ship seems to be self-inflicted and make their way to a control room with an automated message waiting to be played back As they are presented with a warning that some malevolent force is hiding on the ship and that the crew intentionally disabled and abandoned their ship here to precent it from escaping, an unknown forces starts to break down the door.

The Enterprise has been sent to survey a region of space called the Delta Triangle, which is infamous for being a place where many ships throughout history have disappeared without a trace. While surveying, the Klingon Battlecruiser Klothos appears and attacks the Enterprise. But in the midst of its attack, the Klingon ship vanishes just like so many ships before. More Klingon ships appear and blame the Enterprise for the destruction of the Klothos. Out gunned and surrounded, Captain Kirk decides to take the Enterprise to the exact spot the Klothos disappeared and she also disappears into a pocket of starless space with a vast graveyard of derelict ships... ships that match the descriptions of those lost in the Delta Triangle. When the Klothos finds the Enterprise to resume fighting and their weapons no longer work, Captain Kirk and Commander Kor are beamed off their ships and stood before the Council of Elysia - made up of the survivors of the vanished ships - and are told that here there is total peace... and no possibly of escape.

The Enterprise is sent to evacuate a research station on Minara II. However, when they arrive, the station is deserted. As they begin searching the station, a massive solar flare threatens the Enterprise and Captain Kirk orders Commander Scott to take her to a safe distance and pick them back up when it is safe. Commander Spock plays the station's security recordings and they witness the researchers vanish one by one after hearing a high-frequency noise. Just as they see this, the landing party experiences the same high-frequency noise before disappearing one by one. They awaken inside a dark room with an alien woman who cannot speak. Doctor McCoy concludes that it's natural for her species and Spock deduces she is an empath. Without warning, two older alien men appear and immediately assert dominance against everyone with advanced technological abilities. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are lab rats in some kind of experiment but they do not know to what end. Or why a frightened, empathetic woman is involved.

The Enterprise responds to a distress call form Triacus. When they beam down, they find the entire research team dead, except for one who appears to be paranoid and unable to recognize people before also dropping dead. They are survived only by their children, who are found playing together as though nothing has happened. Not only can Doctor McCoy not understand the motivation for what appears to be mass suicide on the researchers' part, but he is also confused and concerned by the childrens' inability to accept the reality of the situation. Even during a funeral for their own parents, the children can't sit still for a moment before running off to play again. Once back onboard the ship, Nurse Chapel arranges for the children to be cared for until they can be transferred to a Starbase. But they don't want to do anything but play. As Captain Kirk prepares the Enterprise to leave the planet, himself and other crewmembers start to exhibit the same symptoms as the researchers down on Triacus did before they killed themselves.
