Black Swan is about a ballet dancer who, driven by the demand to perfectly play the lead role in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, descends into madness.

It's with Natalie Portman and a truly amazing movie. I absolutely recommend watching it, even when you're not into ballet.

Edit: To be honest just watch Joker too. It tells the story of Joker becoming the Joker and Joaquin Phoenix did an amazing job playing the role. It's completely different from any DC / Batman movies and probably not what you'd expect from a movie that plays in this universe.

Both movies are great psychothrillers.

Eighteen treated for severe nausea in Stuttgart after opera of live sex and piercing

🤔

I heard a short interview with the opera houses intendant (if I recall correctly) and he was pretty unphased unfazed by this story. He said that it was not uncommon that a few of the 1400 guests of the opera house get nauseous during a show especially on hot days when air gets stale...

Sounded like he wasn't convinced the nausea during the Santa performance was because of the play itself.

Learning a new language is easy!

my lack of fucks about der, die, das, dem etc made it very obvious I wasn't a native speaker.

I employ many non native speakers and most of them struggle with their articles and are very self conscious about them. They often consider themselves bad speakers because of this and I fear they sometimes talk less because they don't have the courage to make grammar mistakes.

I always tell them that I don't give a fuck about articles. Most of the time they don't convey any meaning. You can skip them or use a generic "de" to fake any article. For me as an employer it's more important that you practice talking, get a good vocabulary and have your times (especially Präsens, Perfekt, Futur) straight.🤷

You're right, no human being stacks rocks like this.

Although they may be considered primitive by today's technological standards, they were very, very smart and accomplished tremendous things with very little resource.

They were not primitive intellectually. They were smart, capable and intelligent people.

This is exactly the point many people don't understand: People in the past were not less intelligent than today's people.

We developed more ways to discover stuff and more precise tools to measure and detect things and of course with computers we got the ability to handle extremely complex data. All of this gives us an edge over past people science wise but we had very capable thinkers 200, 600 and 4000 years ago. All basic principles of mathematics have been developed a long time ago.

Dog shoots woman with shotgun at Nebraska convenience store

Reply in thread

She wasn't killed but your point stands: The headline, while obviously being clickbaity and maybe even trying to be funny hides the underlying problem:

Somehow, the dog had triggered the shotgun – which had a live round chambered – to fire, damaging the vehicle and striking a female passerby.

[...]

It is illegal in Nebraska to drive with a loaded shotgun in your vehicle.

Which pill do you choose?

Reply in thread

Exactly! In the past, I would have chosen the red pill to change decisions that I made in the past. But today there are some things in my life that are not directly the result of conscious decisions, but that I would not want to miss.
