Got a kid on the way, what are we naming them?

I love Morgana, to the point I convinced the wife to use it if we had a girl (we didn't).

I read somewhere long ago of a study that concluded that difficult names (either writing or pronouncing) caused problems for kids early on, so I had that in mind when chosing names, I also opted out of a middle name (I don't know single person who doesn't have one over here other than my kid) because my last name is kinda hard and long already.

Hope this helps choosing something. And congratulations! Whatever you go with, love is the important part, the name is just a tag.

KDE is actively proposing a Pro-AI contribution policy, with most rejecting any suggestions for AI use to be disclosed, or any consideration for environmental concerns

I feel like using ai is like using drugs, they're bad, but regulating them is muuuuuuuch better than just prohibiting, people will use it anyways.

It's not a one to one comparison but I feel encouraging witch hunts will definitely do more harm than normalizing it.

To be clear, I don't want it either, I'm acknowledging it's the lesser of two evils.

What would be needed for a new video hosting service to overtake YouTube?

I believe the biggest hurdle (even bigger than the mountain of tech and capital needed) is people having the will to try to migrate to something else.

Everyone talks big about stuff beong crap but almost nobody puts an ounce of effort into trying, even when there are viable alternatives, the slight amount of discomfort of actually making the switch is enough of a deterrent to actually do it.

Think of when everyone were doing that reddit blackout where they would solemnly swear they would come back after pretending they would abandon it, lemmy existed, forums existed, nothing was one-to-one with reddit so barely anyone actually did leave or even tried replacing it with something else.

That's how the Caesar in fallout new vegas came to be, isn't it? He was the only one who cared about history and understood the basic concept that history tends to repeat itself so he filled the role before anyone else could.
