If you could have any pet in the world which one and why?
Assuming time, money, living situation, and the law wasn't a factor. I'd love a skunk. I'd name her Oreo and i'd love her and she'd be my best friend.

Dragon. And anyone who says otherwise isn’t being completely honest with themselves. Everyone wants a dragon.
Can I have a dog-sized dragon? Smaug would not fit in our living room and our budget can't manage dozens of sheeps every week.
Have you not seen Rick & Morty?
You slut!
What about an aboleth or a tarrasque? Either one would be pretty cool.
Hells, I'd take a flumph.
Always take the flumph.
FAR better than a flail snail.
The post doesn't say anything about feasibility/safety, so unless you can find dragon tamers for hire and a dragon-proof construction company, you'd likely end up dead and/or with an escaped dragon.
Also, it was about any pet in the world, so I guess that requires dragons to exist somewhere, sounds like a gamble on if they do...
You say all that like my safety is a concern. Yeah I want a dragon, yeah I don't care if it eats me. Either it's a cool dragon and my best friend or it's an evil dragon and I get to unleash it upon the world. I'm not seeing a downside.
Dragons are also usually sapient, meaning it can't be a pet, just a slave.
You're missing out big time my friend, I don't want a dragon pet, I want to be the dragon !
I'd have my cat. If the devil came acallin' I'd sell my soul for me and the lil guy to be immortal. I could spend eternity in his company and it wouldn't be enough.
I, also, choose this guy's cat.
What a classic
Me too. We're having to put our little guy to sleep tonight, he's too ill. They're pretty sure it's cancer, but he's not stable enough for diagnosis let alone treatment. The poor guy's had basically a soda can's worth of fluid drained from his chest cavity twice in the last 2 months.
That's him away now. I'm just happy he wasn't hurting yet. With the way things were going he probably would have had massive heart failure which is hardly pleasant.
Here's a picture of the wee man just before the vet came.
I'm so sorry. I hope you're okay. I had a cat die suddenly a month ago and its been rough. Please take care of yourself.
My wife is hurting worse than me. He got her through the pandemic, and they really bonded. I opened the cat flap this morning and pulled out his food before I remembered he was gone. Been a tough Saturday.
Sorry about your friend, it's worse when they go suddenly with no warning. Sending hugs.
Sounds like you both have a lot of love to give. Hopefully both your hearts heal smoothly. One day at a time.
That's so cute.
You haven't considered the horrific things that would undoubtedly happen, especially given infinite time, if you were to follow through on that sale.
For the sake of good taste and sanity, I won't list any here, but I'm sure your imagination can fill in the gap.
Nah me and my bud will be together. It'll be fine.
I have answered this the same way every time I've been asked:
A great big fuck-off raven.
Like one you could ride?
No, just at the large end of the real-world raven size range is fine.
I'm not, like, going to Mordor.
Can I have a pet human or is that too problematic?
Is this some consensual sex thing? If so, will you care for them and love them?
On the advice of my legal counsel, I am choosing to invoke my fifth amendment rights.
In that case, yes it's problematic.
Bad take, fifth amendment is based
It's called having a child, and it's a lot different from any other kind of pet.
My cat. I left home for a bit, I come back to see she's gone. Nobody told me or anything. I know she's fine wherever she is, but I still miss her.
I'm sorry 😥
Thank you. We still have her kids, so that's great.
My dog Denver, who died a couple years ago. She was so awesome, my little buddy. Lived 18 great years, miss her every day.
My dogs. Because I loved them, and still do.
I don't really have any firm beliefs in an afterlife, but if there is one and my dogs aren't waiting for me there, I'd prefer oblivion. Please and thank you.
Some kind of a wild cat like Ocelot would be cool assuming they could behave themselves but since they can't, a normal house cat is just fine too.
It's like meowschwitz in here
Apparently Cheetahs behave a lot like housecats if they are socialised from very young with similarly sized dogs.
Penguin. No reason required.
Approve.
Evangelion fan located
A gnu and a penguin named Tux?
A binturong. They have a fluffy prehensile tail as long as their body and they smell like popcorn!
Capybara. Self-explanatory. It'd chill with me and my dogs.
I got to meet a couple capybaras on a cruise excursion. At one point someone in the crowd got rowdy and upset the male, who had to huddle in a corner and stare at a wall to calm down.
It was sad that we made him uncomfortable, but also pretty cute to watch him sulk.
They're so cute. Fuck whoever upset the lil guy.
Capybara because capybara
tbh, I'd rather be the pet.
I'll stick with my dog family
I also choose your dog. /s
Understandable. She's a high-quality, purebred stray from Croatia.
A service dog so to speak. I'm at her service all the time. Snacks? Yes ma'am. Hug? You got it.
The other one is a Polish stray of the finest quality as well.
I wouldn't settle for less than a rescue, they're simply the best.
Red Panda
Red panda. I'm disappointed that I was the first comment for one
My previous cat from childhood until my early twenties and a Savannah cat.
EDIT: Corrections of the sentence.
An army of pet dragonflies.
Never be bothered by mosquitoes again.
You can get a dragonfly on a flexible arm that clips to your hat. Apparently it works pretty well, bugs see a dragonfly floating around your head and fuck right off.
I'm assuming it's a fake dragonfly?
I'll wear the world's most ridiculous hat if it meant mosquitos left me alone. But I don't want a live dragonfly or anything, that's not cool
It is a small plastic dragon fly
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/dragonfly-wingman-horse-and-deer-fly-deterrent-2-pk-1591692p.html
Seems like they call out specific types of bugs, such as "visual hunting flies"
Not sure how well this will work for all bugs, mosquitos, etc
I was actually was discussing this with my partner, while real dragonflies eat mosquitoes the fake one doesn't scare them because they aren't smart enough to avoid predators.
Having a thermacell insect repellent device would help with many bugs. You can get a tabletop one if you are in one place and it isn't too windy.
Tanuki
Owl
Right before I was born, my mom had a pet skunk named Petunia. She loved her and talked about her all the time growing up.
A common magpie, specially if it can come and go as it pleases and I don't have to do much.
I want an emu. Specifically, I want to hand-rear one from the egg.
I've done this with chickens and ducks and loved it. Emus are basically just giant chickens anyway.
Quokkas are adorable little shits, I'd love to have one as a pet.
Probably this thing called an Aye aye.
When I have guests over, I wouldn't tell them I have it, but I'd train it to sneak up on them in the night and stick it's weird finger in their ear
You guys get to choose your pets? All of mine just invite themselves in the house and then decide they live there now. I'm not complaining about the situation, but I don't exactly remember having much choice in the matter.
Opossum
Red Panda. It will have to be some kind of outdoor climate controlled enclosure because they will pee anywhere.
Always fancied Abyssinian cats but I hate that they're bred and cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Pangolin, maybe? It's probably as close as one could get to a pet draco vulgaris.
Capybara are actually supposed to be already pretty cool. Some selective breeding might make them even cooler.
Sloth could be interesting.
There are some aquaria that would be unrealistic to own now but if there were no limits it'd be interesting to have some of the deep sea creatures.
But also, really, if money, time, etc. were no issue, I'd probably take over an entire american state to build an enormous shelter/kennel/animal hospital/rescue centre for the lost, abandoned, unhoused, or otherwise uncared for pets of the world.
i'd like a parrot or toucan if it had enough freedom. Unfortunately I don't think you can let them fly around by themselves without them leaving you forever or becoming an invasive species. Very region dependant pet.
Honestly gotta have cats though. They're so much fun and they take good care of themselves. I would similarly only have a cat if i had a big garden for it
birds are actually higher maintenance than dogs and cats, more medical costs since you would probably need a vet specializing in birds. also the more exotic the bird the higher the cost, probably cant get toucan or even most macaw species from an ethical source. because of the birds unique respiratory system they would be susceptible to whatever pollution or things you spray in the house.
There you go, I should stick with cats. I'll farm chickens if possible though
A cat, because I love cats. But I live in the city, I think it's not appropriate for a cat to only live inside an apartment, and you can't avoid buying meat for feeding the cat.
cats should not let be free roaming though... It's dangerous for them and the wildlife.
Roaming free is dangerous to all wildlife.
Seems as both are bad options?
That's very location specific, and doesn't apply to most of the world.
Outdoor domestic cats and wildlife: How to overrate and misinterpret field data
That's not really a study at all. That's just somebody referring to an actual published study and saying "I don't think so".
It's more someone referring to a published study and pointing out that every single one of the news articles written about it are misrepresenting its findings.
Boston Dynamics Spot, for no reason.
Otter.
Yes, I know it would bite the shit out of me, but they're so cute.
A donkey but I don't know how to take care of them
You going to ride that ass?
If going of imagination, I want a polar bear. Yeah they're dangerous, but if we assume they're pets then they're just a giant fluff ball.
Imagine snuggling up to a pet polar bear.
Even though I don't really want to get a pet because I don't want to get too attached and end up heartbroken when it dies! If I ever change my mind, I'd get a dog. I also really like owls in general, but I don't want to get a bird just to keep it locked in a cage for the rest of its life just because I want to feel like Harry Potter lol!
Get a Galápagos tortoise. Problèmes solved.
My dead cat, gimme that little fuck back 😔
Either a penguin or a horse
i think a horse is more reasonable.
As long as there are stray animals, that is the only moral choice.
Almost no species makes a good pet so I'm going to stick with my dog.
I want a fully cloned megaraptor. I don't even care if it's trained or not.
just release it in Florida for me when it's done.
A senator. They're apparently a great ROI if you can afford one.
I know here in Canada it's illegal to own a skunk, but there are places you can get them "de-stinked" and have as a pet. They supposedly can be pretty chill too if they're domesticated and not wild.
Be better than a guard dog too IMO. Someone comes on your yard and sees a fart cat they're not going to want to get out of their car.
Cats and dogs are the best pets but I also make sure to be nice to the crows; and if I could have any group of working animals I would love to have a flock of vultures to rent out to clean up dead animals.
I also often wish for a shoebox sheep, a couple of sheep as small as a very small dogs, as lawnmowers.
An American nazi. And I'd abuse the shit out of him!
The first time I saw this was about 11:30 pm on TV.
I laughed so hard and long, my partner ran upstairs to see if it was having a seizure!
A giraffe. Because it's a giraffe, I believe no further explanation should be necessary.
FYI they have giraffe hotels where they can just stuck their head in your room
Counter point: elephant.
Also valid, I just think I personally would prefer giraffe
pet skunks are a thing, you have to get its anal glands surgically removed though.
You don’t have to. You can train them not to spray as long as you get them as a kit. I’ve known a few people with skunks that they raised from babies that didn’t get their scent glands removed.
Yeah I wouldn't descent mine. I believe it would be unethical to surgically alter them to better suit humans. I want a skunk for the lovable, smelly floofball they are.
A powerful politician. The reasons should be obvious.
Found Elon's account.
I've been interested in snakes lately, they are actually quite a very interesting topic, I didn't realize just how many hundreds of morphs there are and not to mention variations of species.
Annnnny?
I'd probably have my two old boxers again. Same memories in their heads but as puppies. And guarantees they'll make it to 15.
Little monkey if they still have full free will and behave like they really would in real life.
Big gorilla if it was a "magically tame and loves you" situation.
honestly. cats and dogs are pretty great and off them goldens are super awesome. Not sure I would want anything above that necessarilly. I mean if I was going to reach for the fantastic maybe an orangutan like in every wich way but loose. its also so amazing the way the one that learned sign language learned so many aspects of humanity. still if I only had one pet and did not have to worry about providing for it then golden all the way.
assuming no ethical implications of keeping wild animals captive for your own personal entertainment.
Hmm, so the vegan version would go something like: if you could live with any animal in it's native habitat, which one would it be?
An ankylosaurus magniventris.
Sonmething with fingers like a monkey, a raccoon or a midget bear. Or even a crow
None.
Pets are anchors.
I knew somebody would use this scenario to bring back slavery.
Do you want to volunteer?
Is there going to be creepy sex slave responsibilities?
Because I'm out if there's not going to be any sex slave stuff.
Not into it, sorry. Maybe a few sex-related requests per year when I'm super horny
Good luck finding your slave. I just don't think we're going to be a good match.
Ahh thank you! Good luck to you too! Find the sex slave position that kinda fits you well
It's the nature of the job. 🤷🏻♂️ Every good sex slave is constantly searching for new positions to get filled.
Is that what you think pets are? As the other person says, that's a slave. You just listed all the adjectives a slave trader would have used. Trolling or psycho?
Lol, yours is worse. And now it gets "weird slave master" added to it before I block you.
