Call a tow truck company and get the spotter's fee reward.

129
saltescreply
lemmy.world

Usually. They're slapping a heavy tow fee on. They appreciate people finding the money for them. You're literally calling them to say, "Hey, wanna make $150 in 10 mins?" So a spotter's fee in cash under the table is often 30% or so.

Pelicanenreply
fedia.io

It's super easy, barely an inconvenience.

10
sh.itjust.works

Call police, since our wheelchair cannot pass. They will have it towed gladly with a lot of pleasure. (The Netherlands hates these asahats)

78
TimeNaanreply
lemmy.world

This is poland where the police will come in 3 hours after the car is gone and if it's still here they will send a letter to the cars owner who can just say someone else was driving.

26
freebeereply
sh.itjust.works

Does it matter who's driving? It's your car tank. Registered to your name. If you give the keys to someone else, you're still responsible... unless you report it stolen. Is that really not a thing in Poland???

5

No because there is no requirement to point out who was driving specifically. It's a legal loophole.

9
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Deflate the tires and use the truck bed as a trash can and/or porta potty.

48
feddit.nu

The icing on the cake is having the hitch ball mounted when they've probably never towed anything in their life. Make problems, and destroy some people's knees at the same time.

43
sopuli.xyz

Oof yeah, I didn't even notice that. I woulda totally wacked my shins on it. It would leave a bruise for weeks, and probably ruin my pants with grease too.

Fuck this asshole. I'd put nails in front of his back tires so when he drives away he gets two flats. Stupid games, stupid prizes.

Have my wife wheel me over to where the license plate # is in view and post that bad boy to social media with a sympathetic title like "we had to take a huge detour because we couldn't get my wheelchair around this truck", grab some popcorn and watch as people form a digital witch hunt. Then call the police to have it towed.

38

I was going to say, having a wheelchair on hand would make a great way to scrape the hell out of the rear of the car with plausible deniability.

Your idea is probably better.

7
piefed.social

Roll my eyes and shake my head. Probably make a snarky comment to my companion if I was with someone.

34
startrek.website

Fantasize about violence. Probably no real action other than banging into it when walking on the sidewalk.

31
lemmy.world

Lots of smack talk in here from the other side of the screen. Best malicious compliance is probably just call and report them for parking improperly. Or just walk across their car.

28

I would report, and nothing would be done

So yeah, I'd cut valves and scratch paint

You don't understand what "malicious compliance" is, champ

-2
piefed.social

I hate these fuckers. This happens a lot in my home town. I was young i just cursed the fuckers and kept going. Nowadays i would deflate the tire.

26

I need to get one of those valve stem core remover tools in my backpack. I guess a pair of wire dykes would be faster.

4
lemmy.grey.ooo

use the tyre as a step to step up onto the bed cover, step across it, and jump down the other side.

24

I'm not gonna go out of my way for them, but I might step a bit hard on the bed cover. Oops.

1

I had neighbours around me that did this shit regularly

I would drag a coin, walk over the bonnet with bouncy steps, break wing mirrors and the like

I had a spouse who required a wheelchair for a while, so I took it very personally

21

This is probably what I'd do. It's free money for the town, isn't it?

6

Call the city line and report illegal parking. They will at least get a nice ticket, and if you're lucky, they'll get towed :)

18

No they won't, parking enforcement sucks in poland where this picture was taken.

Pedestrians have to resort to other means such as these "karny kutas" (punitive dick) stickers:

18

Annoyingly, in the jurisdiction I live, the driver will get your address if you report it

11
mcv
lemmy.zip

I used to dream of having a laser to cut the offending part off.

17
lemmy.world

call and have it towed/ticketed? it won’t let a wheelchair pass.

16
lemmy.zip

If there are no cameras or witnesses, there will be a flat if I got something sharp enough on me.

15
lemmy.world

A nail when positioned correctly will cause a flat tire to slowly deflate once it's driven over. Makes it less likely to get caught because the damage won't be discovered at the scene

11
lemmy.world

Yeah, I think it's a case of balancing risk, as is the case with all things like this. A hole caused by a nail is easier to repair, but still an annoyance, especially if the lower risk means more people feel safe enough to take direct action in this way. I agree that a hole in the side wall is way more effective, but it's definitely a riskier strategy

3

No, they just get a hole. It's not like a balloon. Firstly the rubber is very thick and secondly it's got fiber reinforcement all through it.

8

Even a truck like that does not have enough PSI in the tire if filled right to explode catastrophically. So for a commuter car or truck like that, you can take a small knife and just make a hole in the sidewall that'll leak slowly and cannot be repaired. To explode it would take being over pressured a large amount.

Now I'll tell you what WILL explode catastrophically if you try this shit. Commercial truck tires, they are at such high PSI and often loads along with temperatures they do explode.

3

Call the polizia municipale for removal

After being on hold for 35 minutes they tell you that there are no patrols available at the moment to come to see (although you remember seeing one parked in front of a nearby bar) but they will come to check as soon as possible.

"As soon as possible" they meant after 6 hours and the pick up is no more parked there

Btw I don't understand those that are buying this kind of penis enhancement devices (no. It's not used for work), parking spots in Italy aren't designed for this size. If you have anything longer than 4 meters it's hard to find a place. Getting a 5.5 meters vehicle just for showing off, it's simply masochism

15

Wish I had the balls to scratch a little penis in the paintwork with my keys.

What I really do is make a picture (with visible license plate and added points for having a person in wheelchair with a sad face next to it) and send it to the city...

15
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Ball style tow hitches are usually removable by a very visible cotter pin! Free ball hitch!

15

Fun fact: you're not supposed to keep your hitch on when you're not towing because it is directly connected to your frame, which means you lose the protection of the crumple zones and the bumper. If a misplaced sledgehammer were to land on your hitch it could seriously bend your shit and warrant very expensive repairs

15

14
sopuli.xyz

Screw off the vent cap of a tire, find a really small piece of gravel, put it in the lid, screw it back on ever so slightly, so that you hear air leaving the vent.

13
lemmy.world

always do this to at least two tires.

Most cars have 1 spare on board, not 2.

3
modusreply
lemmy.world

2
Frenchgeekreply
lemmy.ml

Just park next to someone with the same kind of wheels as yours. No need to carry four spares.

1

I actually had a friend almost do something like this once. He hit some kind of metal object that pierced both his tire and wheel. He had a donut, but was tinkering with the idea of stealing the wheel off a nearby car of the same make and model. I don't think he followed through, but I'm sure it was tempting. It probably would have confused the person he stole it from too.

1
lemmy.world

Just push the valve aside and stab the rubber with a fine blade

Do two tyres so the spare doesn't help

2

Two tires on different axles if you want them to have to replace all 4 rather than just 2.

2
fedia.io

I always keeps a bucket of cow manure with me, for just this purpose.

17

Everyone called me weird for it, but i always knew i wasn't the only one

15

There was someone that parked like this all the time when I lived in an apartment complex. I called the management office to complain, and they explained that their towing enforcement contract was only Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. You know, when everyone is at work, and therefore not parked.

The truck owner went on vacation, so her truck was parked like this on a Monday, and I called. The office worker decided they had to give a written warning first. So nothing ever happened with it.

11

"Uh oh, is there a baby in the back seat? That's super dangerous! We better get the baby some air!"

"...oh, there wasn't? Oops. Well, my heart was in the right place."

10

Oh, I never realized before that I wanted a "The Scooby Gang Fights the Klan" story. Gene Luen Lang's Superman story about the same thing was amazing, I bet a Scooby-Doo story in the same vein could be really interesting.

1

I'd take a sharp object and write the following notes on their door:

"Hi there, I was going to write this note on paper but I didn't have any on me so I figured this was the next best option. Anywho, just wanted to let you know that your car is parked on the sidewalk and blocking people from walking safely away from the street. I know it was probably an accident, so no biggie! Just wanted to let you know for next time so you can be mindful of others. Have a great day, friend!"

Bonus points - If I have them on me, bb pellets and super glue. You take the air stem cap off their tire valve, put in a drop of super glue and then a bb pellet. Screw it back on. It will slowly leak air out overtime, and the driver will go crazy trying to figure out why that tire is slowly letter air out.

10

Get a grinder and remove the part that is on the sidewalk

Would be very funny

More realistically take a pic WITH license plate and post online anonymously with GPS location

And inform the cops of course

I am not sure if you are allowed to call a towing company on your own, may depend on country laws

9
lemmy.world
  1. Put a fake tow notice under the wiper so the owner thinks they have to move the truck.

  2. Chain the axle to that fence back there and lock it.

  3. Kick the driver's door so the alarm goes off.

Driver hears the alarm, checks out his truck, gets pissed about the busted door, sees the tow notice, goes to move the truck, and since they obviously have no idea or concern for anything behind them, doesn't check the vehicle and ends up dragging the fence (or if it is really well put in, breaking an axle.

Sometimes I have to wear a duty belt. That duty belt has some heavy-duty pointy metal things stored on it. I'd just make sure my duty belt is nice and secure before I squeeeeeeze past.

9

Probably ignore it, and hope they got a ticket of some kind. I don't think my area has any parking narc program.

8

Kick it as hard as you can in the fender and key it as you walk around it to indicate what a problem that is

7

Police indifference to parking violations probably translates to police indifference towards vandalism. I carry a pocket knife. Two flats requires a tow.

7

discuss.tchncs.de

Refer to the pic for the answer. They park on sidewalks, occupy multiple parking spots, and stick out onto the street. This size of cars needs to be banned inside cities before it's too late.

10

Like this. Or in the bike lane.

Assholes in Europe imitate those in the US closely.

8

Really depends on where you are. I mean, we have actual trucks, not pick up trucks, but like those box trucks that deliver goods to shops and such. They drive around in cities no problem. Of course, some early medieval town in Germany or Italy is a different thing, but those are more a exception than the rule. You got to remember, Europe was bombed quite badly during the war and then in the 1970s there was a big obsession about building infrastructure for cars. That has been slowly reversed back to more pedestrian friendly cities, but still, they are not built in a way that prevents larger vehicles to use the streets.

The main reason for the lack of american style pick up trucks here is tax and fuel costs. People who need a pick up truck would rather drive around in a 2.4 diesel Toyota Hilux, than a 28 litre V8 motor Dodge RAM. Most of the people driving with Yank Trucks are people who fantasize about being a good ol' boy from Texas, while not having traveled more than 25 kilometers outside of their home town of Kauhajoki.

4

Pickup trucks are useful and common in rural areas in Europe. However they are usually half the size of these bloated egomobiles.

1

They've been here for a few decades now, they're just such a niche vehicle that you don't see them often.

It has the feel of it. Unusual cultural mixes and the weird AI shine. Weird details that make no sense. Unusual geometry everywhere. The image is crowded the way AI images are. The shadows are particularly bad and non-existent in some places. The curb kind of shifts elevation without any raised sidewalk or ramp.

Though the most glaring is the text on the license plates.

0
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Oh my fucking god...no, it's real, there is nothing wrong with the image and the text is just because of the low res, it's not giberrish or strange and the font def match with the ones on the european plates;

Also, this is a real place called Kraków

I could debunk all you said but it's not worth my time, long story short: learn to look at the images better and maybe get out to see how the world looks like

Alright. I was clearly mistaken. I take it back. Sorry for doubting you.

2

Not my idea, but I'd like to get a pad of fake tickets and write him up for parking like a dickhead.

Once, about 10 or 12 years ago, I was taking my handicapped girlfriend home from her infusion treatment (Multiple Sclerosis) so we stopped for lunch at Wendy's. We pull in just in time to see a couple of chuds pull into the last available handicapped space in a shiny new work truck (F 250 with tool boxes and ladder rack). We parked across the parking lot. Back then she could still walk with a cane (she's wheelchair-bound now). The two said chuds sat down to eat, but I had other plans. We took ours to go, and I nonchalantly keyed the fuck out of the side of his shiny red paint high up on the door. My plan, had he seen me, was to wait for the cops to come. I'd cop to the keying, but he would have gotten a $250 ticket for not having a placcard. I realize it was kinda dumb because people are fucking crazy, and here in the US half of them are probably packing.

7

Liquid from a can of Surströmming down the windshield. They won't be parking there permanently.

6
sopuli.xyz

Is it parked like that regularly and overnight? If so, well, you can buy a knockoff battery powered Makita angle grinder off Aliexpress for very little money and it's very useful to own one anyway, especially if you also own an old car where bolts keep rusting shut so bad it's easier to cut things off.

In this instance, I'd recommend doing just the tow hitch. If you get caught there's less damages to pay, it creates enough space for most people to pass, and the owner of the truck will probably get the message. Plus it would take way too long to cut off any part of the bed

6
MBechreply
feddit.dk

I'm sure af nice sanding of the offending parts of the car would send a message?

5

Did you know you have to be suuper careful when refill your brake fluid resevoir because its practically melts your paint immediately.
Because of this I would reccomend NEVER carrying an open container or leaving the lid unscrewed whilst walking around, one trip on some uneven footpath paving could be disasterous l.

1

Saws-all. Cut it in half right over the sidewalk line and trash the part on the sidewalk

5

Remove the trailer hitch and throw it through the back window... I mean... Ninja rocks.

5

If the city has an app to report this kind of stuff, I'd use it.

4

At the very least, key the tailgate as I squeeze past it. Maybe clip my big keyring to one of my belt loops, so I have an excuse if someone sees it.

3

I'd walk behind it and not worry so much about not scratching the tailgate

I don't carry around tire-popping tools lol

2

A few lentils can be used under the valve caps to cause a slow liberation of air from the tires. No property damage, but quite an inconvenience to get refilled.

1

Probably walk by with my key out and drag a large scratch across the side, then go all the way around the tailgate of the truck. Dunno, what else am I going to do about it?

1
lemmy.world

I think it's strange to omit the fact that this truck has custom, racist registration plate

1

Of fucking course it’s a pickup truck. Who keeps buying these goddamn things?

I keep saying I’m going to design and print out exceptionally sticky stickers that simply say “Big Truck. Small Dick.”

-1

Keep walking and live my life. I feel like there's a good reason we can't see the fronts of the cars, and what I imagine we're missing is that if the truck didn't back all the way in, the smaller cars would have a problem getting out. If there's no parking for full-size vehicles, the truck is going to be inconvenient somewhere. So if it's not in my way and I can avoid it, I'll just do that.

-15
kungenreply

Then they shouldn't be parked there from the start.

If there's no parking for full-size vehicles

Then, again, they shouldn't be parked there from the start. It's not a difficult concept.

No one has forced them to buy an oversized vehicle. And if the area is obviously not zoned to allow oversized vehicles, they shouldn't even be driving it there.

if it's not in my way

It is obviously in the way for all pedestrians, as there's like less than a quarter meter free space behind the truck, and people need to be especially careful to not fuck up their legs on the hitch.

You don't need to be enraged by idiots, but you don't need to defend their behavior.

31

Aside from the lack of care for others I think there might be two problems:

  1. the local government is so carbrained this isn't illegal
  2. the local government is so carbrained the fines are too low or the enforcement sucks in another way.

This car should get towed in my opinion. Sure i can walk behind it, but how about that single mom with a stroller or a veteran in a wheelchair? Sure those are stereotypes but we can't have those people deal with this shit by themselves everytime. I think you are right, just because we can pass doesn't mean we should let this be none of our business. Especially if we have a loved one who wouldn't be able to pass this car we should do something about it. Even if we don't, we shouldn't sit idly by if we can do something about it (not saying we should slash their tires though, that will probably only extend the time the problem is there).

5
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Or I could just not be bothered by what other people do.

It's easy to sit in a chair at a computer and talk about what other people should do. It's harder to lead a successful life. Easier to make decisions that affect others. Harder to deal with the consequences of those choices, so the decisions are arbitrary and can be dismissed with as much thought as was put into them.

I get it, you don't think anybody should have cars. Okay, but some things need to happen for that to even start to make sense. Until you can begin addressing those issues, it's all just wishful thinking. At the very least, you can be the change you want to see in the world.

-2

I get it, you don't think anybody should have cars.

Who has said that I think this? It's a privilege to drive, not a right. No one needs to accept someone else's idiotic decision to buy a vehicle that's too large for the streets' zoning.

1
lemmy.zip

i'd walk around it.

you're encouraging the same kind of mindset that makes people hate bike riders.

-16

What mindset? That people should follow the law?

If I setup a picnic table on the sidewalk but it's too long and blocks 3/4ths of a lane of traffic, how seriously do you think people would take it?

Do you think someone might yell at me? Call the cops? They can just drive around, or take a different route. No problem, right?

6

Bikes aren't supposed to be on the sidewalk. Wheelchairs on the other hand are. This may violate whatever the local equivalent of the Americans with Disabilities Act is and if the country in question doesn't have laws mandating accessibility to the disabled it should.

And under no circumstances should I need to walk into traffic to avoid a truck.

3

enabling the dickheads will not solve anything.
