I just moved out of a city with amazing cycling infrastructure to the suburbs of a larger city... this city has okay transit but their cycling infrastructure is basically telling drivers to please not hit cyclists on the shared roads. At least until you get downtown you'll be meandering through neighbourhoods because they don't want to take away peoples parking spots on the main roads.
Lots of complexity in a hybrid, and gas does eventually go bad if you don't use it. Though when I used to have a motorcycle it always ran after the winter in the garage so idk how long that actually takes to happen...
Volvo XC90 T8. I don't want any other car; It's great under scandinavian winter conditions, my entire family fits, and it's genuinely a nice car without being too flashy.
my first car was a V70 Executive with 350 000 km on it.
well, on the rear half.
i was the 23rd owner. it had a phone in the central arm rest, which didn't work because some mongrel had replaced the head unit with aftermarket crap. at least the wood trim and leather seats were nice.
I drive a Manual 2019 Mustang GT convertible I bought of the auction and rebuilt in my apartment ... It was tough to find a car in the height of Covid and I had very little wiggle room since I ended up putting a piston thru the block in my 2016 Genesis Coupe ...
And this is the Genny I killed, she had over 120 miles and I was very lazy with maintenance ... not that their build quality is the best to begin with
My parents have 2 different model RAV4s (cuz you need a car to do anything around here)
It's funny how I always see them on the road and be like "OMG do they have the same car as we have? Why did it suddently get popular? Are they just copying our choices?" lmfao
The check engine light is complimentary with any VW product 🤣 I love how nice the damn things are but never met one who's dashboard didn't look like a Christmas tree.
My golf before it finally became too much to keep up.
The brake, brake wear, blown light, and tps weren't real, they were all bad sensors. The windshield washer fluid was low, and it had emissions issues though.
TBF, most cars do that now a days. Car brands don't make their own ABS systems, they buy them from manufacturers like Bosh and Denso; and they all work on the "CAMBUS" standard, meaning that all sensors talk to each other over a network. Normally these systems light up an individual diagnostics light to let you know if there's a problem detected (low brake pad / fluid indicator, parking brake, ABS light) so to differentiate when there's a system error such as a sensor that can't communicate it lights them all up at the same time to let you know.
For example my 06 G35 did that for a stupid brake sensor, cost me endless hours of troubleshooting to pinpoint.
My brother has one that squeaks and squeals from all its hinges, and often goes to the country side on crappy roads, but it has no damn check engine light
There is/was a group of engineering students at the University of Calgary doing just that. It cost thousands of dollars, but worth it IMO if one can afford that.
2000 lbs, great feeling transmission going out the rear wheels. Tiny, nimble, perfectly balanced. Handles amazing. It's low HP so you need to rev out each gear to drive at normal speeds. It's a blast at legal speeds with the top down on a sunny day. That's what won me over. And it's reliable enough that I can drive it to the race track, lap all day, and drive back home. Maintenance wise it's dead simple, basic mechanically with lots of space to work, new OEM parts available, and a hundred guides online for each job to do.
I could go all day! But what really won me over is it's a street legal go kart (and popup lights)
Currently an old Corsa D. Which is a great car, honestly. It has already gone 210.000km. So it will not last forever and I would like to have an electric car afterwards.
I'm with the bike folks, since I ride most places. For the places I need a vehicle, I wish that kei cars were (highway) legal here. The Shuttle LS vans that run around campus are so cute!
2020 Honda Fit. Love the thing, it serves its purpose and punches above its size. It handles a Canadian winter fine and fits 4 people plus a bench. I fill the tank about once a month.
My dream would be an electric Honda Fit or Mini Cooper
I primarily walk/use public transport but do need a car on occasion
haven't heard anyone here in northern europe call them estates, but it's a 7 speed dsg (2013), not sure that engine even came with any other options. and it has torsen, apparently allroads are always torsen. pics i don't have yet, got it a few months ago and it has been dark and now everything is wet and dirty, summer can't arrive soon enough 😅 also kinda wanted something with a more interesting color than dark blue, but this one had perfect service history and only one owner
thanks, i do enjoy it even though it brings a bit of shame in the current climate situation. oh well, someone would've bought it anyway, might as well be me who only drives like 200 km per month
I don't think we should be ashamed at all, let's enjoy these cars while we can before we have to transition to EVs.
Corporations emit a thousand million times more pollutants than private citizens, but they love telling us to think green and be eco friendly while they continue burning the planet for profit.
The way I see it, you were going to drive a car anyways, the difference between a 1.6 litter and a 3.0 litter is negligible in comparison to what's emitted in power generation, plastics processing and other polluting industry.
I've got a rear rack and panniers on my road bike.
Way faster than my hybrid bike, also with a rear rack and panniers. The hybrid is now my designated winter bike, as to not completely kill my good bike.
The one I wish I did is none at all. I would love to just be able to have a car pick me up and take me where I want to go that was shared with everyone else in town and driverless. I don't really want to own a car at all.
I don't wish to drive a car any longer. I'm done with them. They are a stupid form of transport in their current form. They should be used for local traffic only and all electric. City to City should be trains.
I have a Mirage G4. It has a five speed transmission. It does not have internet connectivity, it doesn't have a touchscreen, it doesn't have keyless ignition, it doesn't even have a fourth cylinder. It's as reliable as a hammer, it still gets me over 40 mpg, and it's paid for.
Dream vehicle? Any motorcycle. I have one, and I ride it sometimes, but I have a family that cares I'm alive and a lot of you seem to need a phone in your face to drive a car...
my friends old toyota 1-ton pickup! i don't really "drive" it per se (i don't even have a drivers license hehe), but i do occasionally operate it myself to tug/tow heavy stuff around very short distances. honestly haven't even touched any higher gears than second.
a purchase of an old 80s subaru wagon may be in the works however, but only time will tell :)
I'd like to have a small cargo van with a DIY electric conversion, as opposed to a ready-made EV loaded with spyware. I'm not a car person so I don't yet understand why an EV is inherently more complicated than a washing machine on wheels, plus a battery system. They made them in the 1920s right? It should be doable with very little software, anyway.
from what i've gathered, many earlier EVs were more so "luxury" vehicles, and a lot of them were made by tesla, notorious for shoving wireless connectivity in vehicles. those other luxury EVs decided to follow suit with that!
but note that "many" i sneaked in there. there were absolutely some that weren't spyware machines! the first that come to mind are the earlier models of the nissan leaf and chevy volt (well, there is onstar, but it is not so hard to disable), but there are certainly others. there is no valid reason for the spyware, i mean these cars easily did without it (minus again, onstar...)!
as for an electric van, i knew a (ex-)teacher who did just that! from what she said, she pulled a couple of the major drivetrain components (motor, battery, differential etc.) from a crashed nissan leaf, hooked up an aftermarket controller, and from what i heard the most fiddly parts were the charge port and getting the axles dealt with. i don't know if she got custom axles made or if she just mashed together the axles from both vehicles, but she said it was ultimately a nice vehicle to drive around.
I had thought in terms of keeping the differential and drive shaft for an RWD van. But IDK. I know there are conversion kits you can buy, and even shops that will install them for you. Old van = $5K, conversion kit without battery = $5K to $10K (dunno), battery depends on size I guess, but maybe $6K (50 KWH) for 100 mile range. I haven't seriously pursued it, just had the idea bubbling around.
Most of the time, I don't need a car, nor do I have a good place to put one. When I do need one, I rent one. When I can, I rent a fun one (last: 2018 BMW M4 Competition convertible).
If it made sense to own a car in my current situation, I really enjoyed the C7 Corvette I rented. I thought it was more fun to drive than the C8.
I drive a 2016 Raleigh Sport with a milk crate attached to the rear rack with zip ties. I WISH I drove a 2026 A.B. E-Cargo with an EP6 motor but those are about 5k and they're not sold locally so...
I currently drive a 2013 corolla as a commuter, a 2005 converted econoline wheelchair van as my house, and an XT225 dual sport for fun/errands, and an old racing bicycle I've turned into a commuter.
I think it would be nice to upgrade to an actual commuter - possibly ebike - with a frame sized for my body. At 6'4", it is difficult to find frames that fit on the used market.
My dream moto is a WR250R. Still light and nimble enough to rip it on trails, but with better specs for riding on the highway so I can zip into town to refill groceries when I'm parked at remote campsites. An electric option would be super cool here, too - but atm, you still can't beat the energy density of petrochemicals.
I think it must be a sign of my approaching middle age that I am becoming increasingly enamored with the idea of 4x4 muscle cars. Yes, they are completely impractical, but imagine: a 1970 El Camino with a slight lift and oversized, street-legal knobbies. Slight lift, but more dune buggy than monster truck, with fender wheel wells sized up to account for extra tire size and travel. Paint it Hayduke blue, and let the paint fade to reveal a stylish rust patina. Runs as a commuter, a friend-hauler (just jump in the bed!), a work truck, and an adventure vehicle. Build out a custom slide in camper (with the Camino's low roof, you could sit up in bed!), and it becomes awesome for hanging in the mountains or desert for months at a time as well. And I could drive it from Prudoe Bay to Cancun and get compliments all the way from Alaskan natives, canuck mounties, Portland hipsters, river rats, desert ravers, dads in the grocery store parking lot, tejano mamacitas, mustascioed vaqueros, cartel foot soldiers, and spring breakers in tiny bikinis. Of course, electrification would also be a great enhancement here, but again, energy density.
I have an 20 year old Subaru WRX and an 30 year old Ford F-150 (2 door). Honestly, I can't imagine a better combo if you have the space for 2 vehicles. The car is sporty, fun, and can carry 4 people, while the truck can haul or tow nearly everything I would need. Purchased both brand new, both are still running strong, although parts for the Subaru are starting to dry up.
Although I'm not currently shopping to replace either, they're both gas burners. If they die before I do (feels unlikely), I'd like to upgrade to electric. But I haven't seen anything I would consider affordable - which is to say designed to be repaired by the owner. Slate is the only possible thing on the radar, but their trucklet in this weird middle spot where it's too small to be (fully) useful to me as a truck, while also too big to fill my hot hatch/4door car needs either. Hopefully they'll be super successful and bring more models to the market in the future.
Don't tell me parts for the WRX are drying up! I have a 2003 wrx that I lifted, installed a tow hitch on, and replaced the engine with the block out of a 2019 sti.
It's actually become my "I need to haul things" vehicle. The high compression of the 2.5l block and the 2.0l heads from the original motor has given it a healthy amount of torque. Plus I have the tiniest trailer that is exactly the size of a pallet and weighs next to nothing.
I also have a 2001 MR2 spyder. That's my fun, sporty one. Only mods I've done to that are the head unit and installing a LSD after a bearing grenaded in the transaxle and I had to rebuild it.
Pretty much the only thing thing that'll get me to replace either is if they get wrecked and it twists the frame.
Though the car I WANT to be driving is a catterham.
Short answer on the Subaru - needed a transmission and could not find one at any price. Did eventually find a decent one, but it was more dumb luck & word of mouth than anything.
I gotta say that when I started looking, I saw an alarming amount of "Bugeye for sale, Excellent condition, just needs transmission". To Subaru's credit, every other gasket/washer/seal I needed was still available, right up until I got to actually cracking the transmission itself open. So, can't find a transmission, and can't find the parts to fix one either. So, yeah, if you want to try & future-proof yours, consider keeping an eye out for transmissions.
Speaking of, your WRX sounds bad-ass. I did at one point (briefly) consider putting a tow hitch on mine and ditching the truck, but the only hitch I could find was a class 1. Is that what you are using, or did you find bigger, or simply fabricate your own?
Wait, the block from a 2019 STI fits the heads from a 2003 WRX? Okay, that's... you clearly know more about mixing/matching Subaru parts than I do. I knew the 2004 STI block matched, but that's a 1 year gap, you're talking about a 16 year gap. Wow. Perhaps I should be asking you if there's any other transmissions that drop right in? I'm aware that the later (~2008?) Legacy Spec B transmission is supposed to be a drop in - has the right gear ratios & connections for the halfshafts. But the clutch is different somehow and the pickups for the speedometer have changed from analog to digital. Still, supposedly it can be done. I didn't have any luck finding one of those transmissions either though...
Well shit. My trans needs a rebuild. The syncros are all very worn. I haven't looked at what transmissions are easily swapped. But I suspect a good number would be. I've seen people swap out sti trans into them with the electronic limited slip. But that takes some additional wiring. It was fairly common to upgrade the 5 speed the WRX came with to the 6 speed STI transmission, if I remember correctly the 5 speed had a weak 3rd gear that would give out fairly frequently.
I believe you could swap in the Hawkeye (or was it the blob eye) trans without a problem. You might just need to make sure the rear diff is correct. When I first replaced my rear diff with an LSD I accidentally got the wrong one and when I backed it out of the garage to test it made it 5 feet before I felt it start to bind. I immediately stopped and pulled the drive shaft to move it back into the garage while I waited for the correct one. Still have that cusco LSD sitting in a box, unused.
The blocks for almost all the EJ engines are pretty mix and match with only a handful of parts that need to be updated along side them, like the oil pan and pickup. I went with the 2019 block since it was forged and could handle a lot more power that the STI made and I wouldn't have to worry about the internals. I did swap out to STI injectors too, but I'm not sure that was necessary. I had originally wanted to get it tuned for e85 so it could run cooler.
I still have the original block, which I originally swapped out when it had a slight tap after my headgasket blew around 200k miles for the first ej25 block I built. That lasted about 25k miles before I thought I heard a noise in the bearings. I still have that block too that I was planning to rebuild at some point and just have some spares. Both could probably go back in if I wanted to and they'd run fine. Then I have a 3rd spare block a friend gave me that I split with the intention of rebuilding but didn't have the time to finish.
The heads should have a little machining since the bore of the 2.5L block is ever so slightly larger and with the heads untouched, my tuner said they give a very, very small lip where predetonation can occur.
I didn't machine then, but I run a stock turbo and don't particularly care about having high boost or hitting high horsepower.
I do have a class 1 on mine. It hauls everything I need it to, but it definitely has limits. Even with the outback springs/struts I put on it, when I had to move a light tower around a work site I saw the suspension bottom out. Fortunately, I didn't have to go on the streets so it wasn't a problem.
I can't say my bugeye is in pristine condition, she's been beat to hell, but I love her anyway. Always so much fun and she'll take me almost anywhere I ask her.
Besides the multiple exhausts I've put on (and smashed dropping the car onto some big rocks off-roading), she has a catless up pipe and I've swapped the steering rack for a 2007 STI for a tighter turning radius. One thing I really loved about that car is how much was interchangeable with the next several generations of WRC and STI.
I can't say she is the most reliable car anymore, but that's 100% my fault. That's the reason I got the MR2, so I would have something I could rely on when I needed it.
First off, everything you wrote is excellent. And I love the Halloween vids below too - particularly the night shot with the flame bulb!
I did go the bigger turbo route with mine, and was autocrossing & doing track days with it for probably the first 10 years of it's life. So, I wasn't exactly being easy on the trans. So hopefully you've got more life left in yours. Also, good to know that if I ever have issues with the block, it sounds like I have a lot of options.
Only piece I can add is I did also look into STI transmissions. The bell housing side will bolt right to the block, but nothing else fits. The gear ratios are wrong compared to the rear diff, and the mounts for the halfshafts are different as well. In order to do the swap, you need the whole STI drivetrain all the way out to the hub & wheels. Sure you can do that, but finding all those parts is going to require a donor STI. And if you have a donor STI, why aren't you building that out instead...
Ah yea. I suppose you could get the rear diff and find a driveshaft shop to fab up one with the correct mounts so you don't have to completely rebuild the rear end.
A custom drive shaft might be a lot cheaper than going to the hubs. But whatever you do, at least there is a lot of previous work that you can read and learn from before you start.
And I love the look and size of the bugeye. I wasn't a big fan of how large the STIs got. After a while, the ones I saw felt disconnected from their rally cross origins.
If I'm being practical, ideally I'd like to have 2 vehicles
First would some little electric thing, it only needs room to carry me, the wife and the dog or some groceries. It only needs to max out at about 50mph and have maybe 100 miles of range, heat, ac, and a Bluetooth connection to stream music and gps directions from my phone. I do not need any other bells or whistles, and that will pretty much cover all of my chores, commuting, etc. for a week on one charge.
And small 4wd pickup truck, with long bed, single or extended cab (don't need a full crew cab) something like the old rangers/Tacoma/etc (the current Gen is too big) for camping, picking up lumber, commuting in the snow (with some weight in the bed) etc. preferably as some sort of plug-in hybrid. Can't imagine ever needing or wanting a towing capacity over 5000lbs.
Ignoring practicality, I'd really like to have a big ol' Cadillac. Not too picky on the specifics, but it should be a full-sized sedan, or maybe a convertible, from no later than the early 90s, it should be black or maybe red, and I want whitewall tires.
I also have a special soft spot for Land Rover defenders, and old broncos (or k5 blazers, international scouts, etc.)
I also think the Subaru Brat was really damn cool
Would love to have a VW microbus (I think the new EV thing is also really cool)
Getting more into the realm of the ridiculous, '64 Aston Martin DB5, a DeLorean, any batmobile, the ecto-1, a Jurassic Park jeep, the bluesmobile, or Mad Max's pursuit special
They don't really make the STI at all anymore. Supposedly Japan will see a 4-door with the STI badge later this year (Sport#), but it sounds like it's really just a manual WRX.
There's demand for sure, but Subaru really doesn't seem to care at this point ☹️
Manual transmission, manual knobs, decent power, and AWD in a small to medium sized wagon is all I want, and as far as I know, short of a pre 2018 Volvo I don't think such a thing exists.
Both of my vehicles are considered "classic" cars. My Jeep is over 25 years old and my truck is 40+ years old. Both in perfect running condition and pass emissions testimg everytime. I couldn't ask for better vehicles.
I drive a Subaru XV Crosstrek that I bought brand new. I love my car so much, she’s so fucking cute!
The car I wish I drove is the same car except in manual transmission. And I mean a proper clutch and gear shift, not the paddle shifters on the wheel. It would be even nicer if it was an EV. And yes, I would absolutely still want manual transmission EV even if that doesn’t make any sense. I just want a stick shift again!
I had bought my 08 Honda Fit (Jazz to the non-Americans) brand new. It got near 190,000 miles and my wife was begging me for a year to pick a new car, but nothing I drove felt like it was worth what it cost.
She decided she gave me enough time, and she went and bought herself a new car and now I'm making her last year of payments on her Hyundai Elantra. It isn't what I'd pick, but the features for the price are amazing and it has about 150,000 less miles. I gave my Honda to my niece as her first car.
The Hyundai doesn't physically fit me well, so if I ever do find a car I enjoy, I at least I'll have something newer to trade. Otherwise I'll drive this until the wheels fall off.
I drive a 2024 VW GLI 6MT, bought it as the best bang-for-buck MT available new. Fantastic car all around. What I wish I drove is my dream 2-car garage. The first would be a classic Cooper S, or any decent Miata, or any decent Boxster. MT on all of them. The second would be a Giulia Q4, or Volvo S60, or an Audi RS2. Any combination of these is dream material for me.
A twenty years old Renault Kangoo to drive to wherever I don't have a bus to get to.
Sometimes I think about an electric car but I don't have a place plug it to and apparently those batteries don't like to be in use for more than a week. I don't use my car much.
I have 99 Dodge Ram with a 24 valve Cummins. I love diesel, but I wish it was newer. It only has a half back seat and I have two kids. I wouldn't even mind the emission controls.
I really want to DIY my own electric car. Find a small lightweight stick shift car that has a blown engine, add a forklift motor and some lithium batteries.
I have solar power so it would be free to power the car. Just have no budget for the parts yet.
2007 Shelby GT500 and ahhh, probably a 2007 - 2014 Shelby GT500. It is the car I wanted all through the end of high school and all of college, and was the first thing I got for myself after getting my first job. I do not regret it at all.
I have a 2004 Porsche Cayenne and a 1996 Ford F-350.
Both were under $2000 CAD and very reliable. I love them both, but I would like to have a second gen Toyota Prius because I Iike hybrids and I really like the air cooled NiMH battery setup. I think they're pretty cute in an ugly way.
Dream car to have again though would be my old blue 1999 Volkswagen Beetle.
I'll never get rid of the truck though...will rebuild it over and over again forever.
I have a 2021 Toyota RAV4 right now. It’s pretty much perfect for all my needs. I’ve always wanted a vespa, but I don’t think I’d want that to be my sole vehicle considering where I live.
minivan and none as I hate cars and driving. I would however not pick something over it. Its seat height is great for people with medical issues and its versatile as you can get and its as fuel efficient as you get for the size. Only thing I see with better mileage are compact cars. About the only downside is its low clearance and turn radius.
Hyundai sonata hybrid, really enjoy it. Im never going back to a nonhybrid if i can manage it. So i guess the answer to the second part is a newer hybrid
Check out the maverick, it has all the utility of a truck with all the economy and comfort of a smaller car. It's kind of a hybrid minivan with a bed, but TBH most people that buy trucks are not really using the bed.
Yeah, I rarely used it as a truck. I was sharing it with my roommates that did. But, now I just want a small car that can comfortably travel in harsh winters. Lasted a long time though, I'll miss it.
I drive a 22 year old large gas guzzling Toyota suv (Land Cruiser). I'm WFH so I just use it for weekend things and fill up once a month. It's very reliable and comfortable to drive.
Since 90% of my driving is within an hour of home I've been eyeing EVs, maybe the new Subaru Trailhunter, but it's hard to justify a car payment right now.
i have a 2012 chevy volt with Opel badges. it's cramped, too low to comfortably get in to, and was built prior to charge port standards meaning i can only plug in with my own cable and it maxes out at 3.6kW, but it's honestly great. just a nice place to be. my wishlist for it is a battery swap (using modern cells would quadruple its electric range to about 200km), a proper compatible onboard charger, android auto support, and adaptive cruise. then i could keep it until it fell apart.
depending on the day i either want a 2024 Polestar 2 LRSM or a Citroën DS 21 Pallas. i don't have to drive much so honestly either would work.
also this week i read a review of the new toyota bz4x that mentioned that it uses radiative infrared heaters instead of resistive elements in the seats and i want to test drive it just for that.
The snarky answer is I drive an 18-wheeler, but I wish I was just driving my car.
My "daily" in this case, is a 2016 Ford Focus 1.0T hatchback. As far as my car needs go, it's perfect. All the cargo space I regularly need, manual transmission to not be boring, Ecoboost package for fuel economy. I'm keeping this thing until it dies, or I die. But I only get to drive it about 30 miles a week, tops.
I just wish we got the wagon version in the US; I've frequently slept in this car, but even with the seats folded down, there's not enough room for me to lay flat in the back.
Aa for other cars I wish I drove? I'd want something else in addition to my Focus, to cover the kinds of driving it can't do. Some kind of dedicated, high-end sports car, maybe with a convertible roof. Or some kind of 4x4 for off-roading.
Currently a Chevy Volt 2017. PHEV.
I want a fully electric vehicle but the best current options now are Tesla and I’d prefer not to give musk any money, even if indirect through a used car purchase. So the long wait for others to catch up continues.
What I wish for?
A better KIA EV6.
I love my EV6, it's a marvellous car, much more fun than the Audis, BMWs, etc. I drove before.
But yet there is room for improvents.
Living the dream - seriously. Cheap, comfy, reliable car that is fairly good on gas. Has bluetooth for music but doesn’t spy on me. Very convenient, secure antitheft system involving a metal key.
As someone who genuinely prefers small cars, I wish we could get vehicles like the Inster here in the US. I had a '07 Yaris and it was the bomb - airy greenhouse and more spacious inside than it had any right to be (considering its footprint). Give me that in an EV, please.
I wish I could drive a car that I could afford. The pricing of vehicles moved to the class above me. I used to be part of the driving class but have been priced out of the game.
2016 Camry. Love it, zero complaints. Car I wish I had? Slightly newer model as they look super nice but holding out to see how that generation fares with reliability. Otherwise I'll drive this one til the wheels fall off.
Driving a 2013 Seat Ibiza, kinda wish I were driving an electric since they do less pollution over long term, but in the short term i dont care as long as its moves me from point a to point b.
Though If I had a limitless cash supply I'd want to drive the BMW M3 GTR, the car used in Le Mans. Yea sure, BMW is not officially selling it and it's much cheaper to convert an E46, but I'd really want to drive the actual thing.
I wish I didn't need to drive
I just moved out of a city with amazing cycling infrastructure to the suburbs of a larger city... this city has okay transit but their cycling infrastructure is basically telling drivers to please not hit cyclists on the shared roads. At least until you get downtown you'll be meandering through neighbourhoods because they don't want to take away peoples parking spots on the main roads.
What I drive: None
What I want to drive: a Car-free walkable city
people don't realise how much better the world would be if we had no cars in cities. You think you do, but you don't.
What I drive: Ford Fiesta (i don't remember the year)
What I want to drive: The Millennium Falcon
Ford fiestas feel like the default car
That is Ford's claim to fame!
I drive a car with an internal combustion engine.
I'd prefer to drive a plug-in hybrid, so I could produce slightly less greenhouse gas.
But I'd really prefer a walkable neighbourhood with reliable rapid transit. Maybe car sharing for trips.
Lots of complexity in a hybrid, and gas does eventually go bad if you don't use it. Though when I used to have a motorcycle it always ran after the winter in the garage so idk how long that actually takes to happen...
iirc, the bigger problem is that the gas separates out a water layer that can rust your gas tank, allowing rust flakes to clog your carb.
Apparently Mitsubishis (and others, I assume) are smart enough to use the gas before it goes bad. 🤷♂️
Driving: A kia picanto
Want to drive: An electric vehicle with cargospace enough for four goats or a 1kubic meter liquid container
Do you have pet goats? I love goats. :D
This is awesome
F R I T Z?
No idea what you mean. Are you asking about my name?
What are your thoughts on the Picanto?
Have: a stage 2 '05 Impreza WRX STi in moderately good repair.
Want: a stage 2 '05 Impreza WRX STi in good repair with an ethanol sensor and new tune to enable selectively running E85.
I have a rusty bugeye wrx wagon :)
Can't believe they killed the STI ... Granted we have the GR corolla, but it's just not the same without the boxer :(
I wanted a WRX hatch back, but not like this .... not like this.
Volvo XC90 T8. I don't want any other car; It's great under scandinavian winter conditions, my entire family fits, and it's genuinely a nice car without being too flashy.
Volvo gang
My previous car was also a Volvo. A 940 tank from 1995.
Looove the older boxy models. I dream about the day I find a clean lightning blue 850R wagon for sale
So boxy.
my first car was a V70 Executive with 350 000 km on it.
well, on the rear half.
i was the 23rd owner. it had a phone in the central arm rest, which didn't work because some mongrel had replaced the head unit with aftermarket crap. at least the wood trim and leather seats were nice.
Yoooo ... Finally a thread about cars ...
I drive a Manual 2019 Mustang GT convertible I bought of the auction and rebuilt in my apartment ... It was tough to find a car in the height of Covid and I had very little wiggle room since I ended up putting a piston thru the block in my 2016 Genesis Coupe ...
And this is the Genny I killed, she had over 120 miles and I was very lazy with maintenance ... not that their build quality is the best to begin with
Toyota RAV4, and maybe a slightly nicer Toyota. Because I've been a Toyota stan since high school. Those dudes know how to make a fine machine.
My parents have 2 different model RAV4s (cuz you need a car to do anything around here)
It's funny how I always see them on the road and be like "OMG do they have the same car as we have? Why did it suddently get popular? Are they just copying our choices?" lmfao
I drive a Golf 4 with a check engine light and I wish I drove one without a check engine light
Tomorrow it's going to the electrician and it would better come back fixed!!!
For example my 06 G35 did that for a stupid brake sensor, cost me endless hours of troubleshooting to pinpoint.
i have! the fun part is while the malfunction lights weren't lit up, neither was anything else :D
I HAVE
My brother has one that squeaks and squeals from all its hinges, and often goes to the country side on crappy roads, but it has no damn check engine light
Mine is a city baby and has one, dammit
Look at you, bragging about your working check engine light
You can disconnect the battery for a few seconds to reset that light and enjoy a clear dashboard until the issue triggers a sensor again 😜
Well for me that would be just a few hours later
Also I have a code reader but yea that works too haha
Have: PHEV Crossover with enough ev range to get me 99% of the places I need
Want: public transit for 98% of my travel, and a cheap sports car like a miata for the weekends or any long trips I might take
I drive an old Toyota, wish I could convert it to EV
There is/was a group of engineering students at the University of Calgary doing just that. It cost thousands of dollars, but worth it IMO if one can afford that.
1993 Miata. I would prefer a late 90s RX7 but for reliability reasons I do already have my dream car.
What is it about Miatas that won you over?
Currently driving: Subaru Outback, Miata
Wish I drove: Subaru Outback, Miata
I drive a Ford Ranger and it is the vehicle I want to drive.
Currently an old Corsa D. Which is a great car, honestly. It has already gone 210.000km. So it will not last forever and I would like to have an electric car afterwards.
I still have my Corsa C! Only about 50k miles but its still going strong.
What I drive: 2009 Audi A3
What I want to drive: cheap Chinese EV
I don’t drive often so a huge 50,000 USD loan for some gigantic EV is just not in the cards.
Currently driving: no car
Car I wish I had: not applicable
I drive a Subaru Forester (2017). I wish I drove a newer or less beat up Subaru Forester.
I primarily walk/use public transport but do need a car on occasion
i drive a6 allroad 3.0 tfsi, but with gas prices skyrocketing again i wish i drove a suzuki x-90
Alright! Gotta love a German power waggon ... or as you guys call them "estates"
Got any pics? What gearbox on it? Not sure if they only come with the ZF 8 speed or if the allroad package brings the DCT as part of the AWD
Is the 6 on the Torsen? or Haldex drive train?
haven't heard anyone here in northern europe call them estates, but it's a 7 speed dsg (2013), not sure that engine even came with any other options. and it has torsen, apparently allroads are always torsen. pics i don't have yet, got it a few months ago and it has been dark and now everything is wet and dirty, summer can't arrive soon enough 😅 also kinda wanted something with a more interesting color than dark blue, but this one had perfect service history and only one owner
Amazing, enjoy.
thanks, i do enjoy it even though it brings a bit of shame in the current climate situation. oh well, someone would've bought it anyway, might as well be me who only drives like 200 km per month
Premium only, I hope?
95 octane, but the price is very premium at nearly 2€/L
I ride a road bike, and I wish I rode a hybrid bike with a rear rack and panniers.
I've got a rear rack and panniers on my road bike.
Way faster than my hybrid bike, also with a rear rack and panniers. The hybrid is now my designated winter bike, as to not completely kill my good bike.
I drive a Toyota Yaris Hybrid. I don't care enough about cars to wish for anything else.
I inherited a Suzuki Ignis from my mother in law. Weird little car but it gets me from A to B. I don't care what car I drive.
An aging one.
The one I wish I did is none at all. I would love to just be able to have a car pick me up and take me where I want to go that was shared with everyone else in town and driverless. I don't really want to own a car at all.
2019 Camry Hybrid XLE
A Chevy Bolt (2017). I wish I didn't have to drive, but the Bolt is a nicer experience than my much older Honda Accord (2006).
my friends old toyota 1-ton pickup! i don't really "drive" it per se (i don't even have a drivers license hehe), but i do occasionally operate it myself to tug/tow heavy stuff around very short distances. honestly haven't even touched any higher gears than second.
a purchase of an old 80s subaru wagon may be in the works however, but only time will tell :)
Since I have the MR2. I use the WRX as a Halloween prop every year.

Toyota Camry, and I'd be content if I drove it till I'm dead.
Eyyy! Also drive a camry! But I wanna drive a GitS Tachikoma. They look fun.
Now: ICE minivan and SUV Want: Electric subway train. They're building it now. In 10-15 years it will be ready.
None, none.
Congratulations!!
2007 Toyota 4runner
It's a fine compromise vehicle for me.
2014 Subaru Impreza outback
What I want to drive is a hatch back Subaru WRX but they don't make them anymore.
Guessing my next car will be either a Forester or STI.
Kia Sportage Hybrid. No desire to drive anything else. This car is nice and does everything I need it to do. My fourth Kia too. I like Kias.
Kia EV3. It's generally nice and I don't want a different one. But I'd prefer not to drive a car if that were practical for me right now.
My daily a 2025 GR Corolla, my toy is a 2013 Audi TTRS, my dream is a 1968 Ford GT40.
I have 99 Dodge Ram with a 24 valve Cummins. I love diesel, but I wish it was newer. It only has a half back seat and I have two kids. I wouldn't even mind the emission controls.
I have a gas car, but…
I really want to DIY my own electric car. Find a small lightweight stick shift car that has a blown engine, add a forklift motor and some lithium batteries.
I have solar power so it would be free to power the car. Just have no budget for the parts yet.
This is something I've wanted to do for a while, but like you... Money.
Have: 2007 Subaru Liberty
Want: almost any sort of hybrid/EV
More than I need anymore. None.
Have: 2000 Toyota Echo Want: pretty much any used PHEV or electric
The echo is simple, cheap and robust. But I'd love to stop burning gas for inner city travel.
Currently, a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq EV.
Wish I had an EV with longer range and more upright seating, something like a Volvo EX30 (if it ever comes out of beta). And a Miata.
minivan and none as I hate cars and driving.
I'm looking for a new vehicle. The f150 surrendered, wanting something small this time so I can drive into the city and not spend a week's pay on gas.
My main vehicle is a 2008 BMW E92 328.
What i wish i drove: a better version of mine.
Mine is garbage. lol
Ford transit camper, couldn't be happier with it
I drive a 22 year old large gas guzzling Toyota suv (Land Cruiser).
Renault 5 Alpine EV coming to Canada in 2029.
Cool. But still a long time from now.
I drive: KIA EV6.
What I wish for? A better KIA EV6. I love my EV6, it's a marvellous car, much more fun than the Audis, BMWs, etc. I drove before. But yet there is room for improvents.
A large SUV I bought from a friend who was selling it years ago.
I wish I had something smaller thugh, like a Mini. Though, that probably won't be long as my current car is very old and is already having issues.
a) 2012 Honda CR-V b) 2012 Honda CR-V
Living the dream - seriously. Cheap, comfy, reliable car that is fairly good on gas. Has bluetooth for music but doesn’t spy on me. Very convenient, secure antitheft system involving a metal key.
Drive a Toyota Corolla currently and with gas prices going up I wish I was driving a Prius
The current BMW X1 (Diesel). It's my company car and MAN I hate it, or rather the endless stream of problems with the infotainment system.
I'm currently thinking about going back to a privately owned car. The Hyundai Inster seems nice and affordable.
edit: I also own a VW T3 oldtimer, but it needs quite a bit of work to be done, especially on the lower chassis.
As someone who genuinely prefers small cars, I wish we could get vehicles like the Inster here in the US. I had a '07 Yaris and it was the bomb - airy greenhouse and more spacious inside than it had any right to be (considering its footprint). Give me that in an EV, please.
Drive: Gen 2 Toyota Tacoma
Wish I drove: Toyota Hilux Champ EV
Unfortunately the Champ doesn't come as an EV, and even if it did you can't get them in the US.
Chevy Silverado
Wish I had a Tundra
I have a volvo c30 T5 manual face lift edition as a daily driver. Its fun but not comfortable.
I wish I had a volvo s60 T5 classic with an automatic gearbox as a daily driver and the c30 could be my toy car for hard driving and track days.
I wish I could drive a car that I could afford. The pricing of vehicles moved to the class above me. I used to be part of the driving class but have been priced out of the game.
Fuel, electric
I'll also take autonomous. No, a horse with umbrella doesn't count!!
I drive a 2018 tesla model 3. I wish I did not drive a tesla... Some other EV that can use the supercharger network would be good.
Chevy Bolt. but hang onto the Tesla because it's nigh worthless in the used market.
I've got 2 of them and we will just drive them until they die. It's the only option.
2019 Audi A4. Wish it was an RS7
My other ride is your mom
