My Dream of a Home Router / Server

I feel this in my bones. I was an English major in college. Now I’m in my late 40s and want to create my ow server so that I can OWN the things I used to own: baby pictures and family photos, movies that I bought, music that I bought. I want to send letters to friends without Amazon, JC Penny and Google knowing what I put in my letter.

I’m starting on my home networking journey. I have a beeline on the way to build my own router…pfSense, OpenSense, OpenWRT…still chewing on that but I’m going to do it.

Fuck it. My dad used to work on his car, I think this is my generation’s equivalent.

"Penny Auction" at a farm, with a noose as a warning to bank agents who might attempt to bid, Michigan, USA, Great Depression, 1936

I think it’s worth noting that many farmers THEN were what we would call “self employed” now. Farmers NOW are probably more closely aligned with the Starbucks barista - because they now work for Epstein class. The Man at the bank who owns the loan is no different than the CEO who writes the check. Both the barista and the farmer are being taken advantage of the Epstein class.

Politicians who have a spine now are putting themselves on record if whether they are standing publicly for the people (people living paycheck to paycheck, or season to season) or the financial class - the bankers; the tech-first, human-second Epstein class elite.

I wish I had the courage to speak out like they do…

You have no idea. It’s unbelievably disappointing and frustrating. But it has reinforced (re-introduced?) that all politics is local and community resiliency and care is really super important. Even if all you can do it bake sourdough or mow lawns, or help with WiFi troubleshooting…do it. That’s how we survive this. There are infinite possible futures, we just have to imagine and live the one we want.
