What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? August 25

How did you find DCC in the end, did you enjoy it?

I'm just about to roll over into book 6 of He Who Fights With Monsters. I said it somewhere before but I think it is probably better than DCC in my opinion.

There isn't a lot in it and if you hate the item descriptions or stat regurgitations in DCC like a few people in this thread are saying then you will hate the excessively long stat lists that this has too, but I love it!

Just got books 7 - 12 so that I can just keep on rolling through. I am going to return to Dresden once I'm through with this but it is going to be another 150 hours or so before that happens xD

Which machine or technical sounds do you enjoy, which do you find annoying?

I love the sound of plenty of older performance engines such as an RB25 or RB26, 2JZ, 13b, old Ferrari V8s like in the F40.

A lot of the newer performance engines with these fast shifting auto boxes just sound like wet farts and have "pops and bangs" programmed into the ECU just sound like shit to me.

I know a lot of people hate loud cars but these 90s / 00s performance engines literally throw chills up my spine ans bring a tear to my eye sometimes. Just pushes some visceral button inside me.

Soulseek & Resharing

Personally I don't think you are an arseholes for sharing anything but within my music niche there is definitely a lot of cunt that lock all their shares and are generally very hostile in regards to their shit.

I share an absolute shit ton of stuff, a lot of brand new stuff and I always have hundreds if not thousands of tracks uploaded each week but my niche genre is absolutely full of elitist, gate keeping pricks.

Aside from locking all their files trying to get bandcamp vouchers and shit in exchange for their files when some people want some stuff from me have had a fair few conversations with people saying "yeh you can have access to my files but you have to promise not to publicly share them". I always agree that I won't knowing full well I am going to straight away.

I have also received a few messages when these same people realise I'm sharing "their" music calling me all kinds of things but fuck those cunts!

Piracy is about sharing stuff and making it available to everyone as far as I'm concerned and pissing these elitist, file locking cunts off just makes me so fucking happy.

The concept of locking files goes against what piracy is all about in my opinion and when I do find these file locking cunts when I am searching for stuff myself I will often just unshare all my files from them because they don't deserve all my new releases I share if they are going to act like that.

Long story short, fuck "etiquette", share everything!

And if you are a "dubstep head" sharing locked files on there reading, fuck you, you are a piece of shit.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Wow that is fucking disgusting.

I am not going to be able to refund this shit as I have 120 hours into the game although I got bored very quickly and havent played in a while.

I never really review stuff on steam but after work today I shall be going and giving them a negative review for sure. Fuck this capitalist bullshit!

*Cheeky nandos*

Translation:

It is hard to explain my friend.

It is as if one day you'll be with your friends, browsing in JD Sports (sports shop) and you fancy a curry from the "curry club" menu at Wetherspoons (a nationwide chain of drinking establishments that serve "pub" style food).

However your friend who is male, called Callum, who is also an absolute legend and the epitome of banter (friendly and humerous conversation of a non-serious manner) will say "Brethren (an old fashioned way of referring to a friend you consider a brother) let's have a naughty Nandos (a chain restaurant that specialises in Peri Peri style chicken) instead"

Consequently you will think "Most excellent, let's go there and excel at the process of ordering and eating food"

Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts at Request of Cybersecurity Agency

Why repost this with the sensationalist headline but not include the context provided in the comments by @[email protected]

"The author omitted the complete statement from Reddit:

Hi everyone,

No, Proton did not knowingly block journalists’ email accounts. Our support for journalists and those working in the public interest has been demonstrated time and again through actions, not just words.

In this case, we were alerted by a CERT that certain accounts were being misused by hackers in violation of Proton’s Terms of Service. This led to a cluster of accounts being disabled.

Because of our zero-access architecture, we cannot see the content of accounts and therefore cannot always know when anti-abuse measures may inadvertently affect legitimate activism.

Our team has reviewed these cases individually to determine if any can be restored. We have now reinstated 2 accounts, but there are other accounts we cannot reinstate due to clear ToS violations.

Regarding Phrack’s claim on contacting our legal team 8 times: this is not true. We have only received two emails to our legal team inbox, last one on Sep 6 with a 48-hour deadline. This is unrealistic for a company the size of Proton, especially since the message was sent to our legal team inbox on a Saturday, rather than through the proper customer support channels.

The situation has unfortunately been blown out of proportion without giving us a fair chance to respond to the initial outreach."

What is good SoulSeek etiquette?

Personally I love to see someone downloading a shit load of stuff from me. Someone recently got a whole labels releases from me of over 30gb but that just tells me they have good taste in music as far as I'm concerned so I then explored their files and ended up getting a lot of interesting stuff in return.

I think these people with all their locked files asking for shit like gift vouchers in return for the privaledge of downloading a file from them are scummy, so the way you've approached it sounds great to me, you are sharing so grab whatever you need from people. Hopefully they will then explore your files and the cycle repeats!
