Spotify introduces QR code checks for Family plans, missing verification could mean a year-long ban

They grew 14% to $20B, yet they look for more and more ways to fleece their users.

We need to stop enabling them! It takes 5 minutes to move to another platform with all your playlists saved.

Spotify has detailed the procedure on its support page, explaining that Family plan members may need to “verify they live with the plan manager by scanning a QR code”.

So is it a family plan or a "lives in the same house" plan? My sister is my family, and therefore on my family plan, but she doesn't live in the same house as me.

Why are these companies so stingy? It's pathetic.

Are you saying you can export data from Spotify, like playlists, and import them into another platform? I haven't heard of this before. Got a link?

I have used https://soundiiz.com/ a bunch of times to jump between streaming services. It works pretty well. You can test it before shutting down your old account.

Thanks to everybody that replied! I appreciate the help. That is great news! I've got some homework to do

Most other platforms, certainly Deezer, Qobuz and (I think) Tidal, will offer you temporary free access too one of these services so you can transfer everything. Transfer usually takes a few minutes, unless you have a massive library.

These companies really hate having customers, huh?

Unfortunately it works for them. Netflix only got more money when they stopped password sharing

Havent used Spotify for years. Bought music on Bandcamp and some other sources, play it drm free.

As much as I hate Spotify and would like to move to another service all the other services have trash libraries that dont include all the niche stuff I want.

I'll continue to keep paying Spotify for as long as I can continue to keep ripping as much music as I'd like from them to keep expanding my library and sharing with soulseek.
