What are you watching, and what do you recommend?
Watching the original Bob Newhart show. The casting is just stellar. It’s fun to see how the sets and opening credits change each season. The 70s fashion is a hoot. I’d say season 2 is the strongest so far.

Airbnb opposes Sydney’s call to restrict short-term rentals — But people “rely on it to pay for their mortgages and artificially inflate the housing market”, says deputy mayor
If the owner doesn’t live on site, it’s not a BNB. It’s a hotel. And it should be taxed, zoned, and regulated as such.

Kind of my point. Neighborhoods that aren’t zoned for hotels shouldn’t have hotels in them. Companies are buying up residential homes and basically turning them into hotels without following any of the existing zoning laws.

Most “electronic” voting these days prints a duplicate paper ballot that’s used to audit the vote for accuracy.

Has anyone found a good alternative to Google Lens for (reverse) image search?
For identifying plants and animals, there’s an app called inaturalist. If you have an iPhone, supposedly you can use built-in tools in the photos app to analyze images in the current version of iOS.

Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
Such a great song. Taps into the zeitgeist at the time. Kung Fu with David Carradine was on TV. Bruce Lee movies were showing in theaters. There was even a popular aftershave called “Hai Karate”.

9,000 Miles Of Proof: Electric Trucks Can Tow, But Battery Size Is Everything
Reply in thread
The truck featured in the article offers the larger battery pack as an option at the time of purchase. It’s not mandatory. They sell standard, extended, and max range versions.
I wonder if truck manufacturers could standardize on a battery extender connection, so that RV and other trailer manufacturers could put batteries in the RV/Trailer that the car could tap into.

Texas Democrats seek unity at state convention without Jasmine Crockett
You done fucked up by alienating Crockett and her supporters with those “she’s not electable” ads you spammed everyone with. Way to go Dem leadership! It doesn’t help that Talarico didn’t have the guts to publicly state that he did not approve of that message or strategy.

Americans are probably evolving to adapt to processed foods
We’ve been eating processed foods since the 1950s. Remember Swanson TV dinners? It does make me wonder what has changed. Are the ingredients different? The preservatives?

The over-50s are most likely to overdose. Here’s how older people use drugs
Reply in thread
It doesn’t help that the older you get, the more medications you’re prescribed, and the more interaction risks you run with not only each prescription — but other things you ingest or use like foods, alcohol, caffeine, supplements, over the counter stuff like aspirin or ibuprofen, cold medicines, and recreational drugs like pot, etc.

State investigators issue final Camp Mystic report detailing cascading failures during July 4 flood
Reply in thread
Lots of blame here on the camp, but where’s the part of the report that mentions the state refused to pay for a requested emergency warning system? Or that county residents didn’t want sirens installed?
