“Gaming is becoming unaffordable” — Xbox CEO says the industry has an accessibility crisis

Reply in thread

The more the hardware capabilities and our expectations rise, so does the outright complexity of making the games. I’m sure some of us would be fine with less ”bleeding-edge” games if they were otherwise written and designed great, but I think it makes sense, from publisher’s perspective, to hedge the bets and try to also impress with the fidelity of presentation.

If you are looking for a sofa and find one that smells a bit off but is otherwise functional, comfortable and looks nice, you might think you’d be able to live with the smell and buy it.

You almost certainly won’t and will likely regret the choice, but the sale was made and it’s a whole thing to do returns for something so big and hard to transport and move around.

That’s what you want to go for, even if you think it might smell fine. If it looks good enough, it might nor matter if it happened to smell rank ultimately. Numbers must go up!

IDF Sent in Handcuffed Prisoner to Evacuate Hospital, Then Killed Him When He Left

This is severely disturbing and dystopian, I can not believe we are just letting all this happen, the same as with Ukraine.

Earlier I was talking with my partner about these things from my safe home, far removed from these situations, and we realized this must be how the original nazis happened. It had puzzled us both, and many we had talked with in the past, how it was even possible to come to be.

I guess now we know. This is how it comes to be.

Feels so powerless and diminishing, but at the same time very human. Can’t realistically do more than vote locally when we can, but that’s not going to help anyone right now, or realistically even in the short term of a few years…

It’s so heart-breaking, and it’s bizarre because we probably don’t even know a fraction of all of it…

Guy never bought a game on the Epic Store... Owns 200+

Initially I, too, claimed those, but ultimately I never ended up playing them and often I’d just end up buying them from steam instead. It’s funny how I’m willing to pay for something I can have for free, if it’s convenient and easy. So I didn’t claim them for very long, stopped a long time ago, and still just ignore it if a game I thirst for is available for free.

But that’s also a pretty dark prospect: Because I have my entire extensive library on steam, I’m kind of stuck with them. And while they are not abusing that presently, I’m fairly confident they will someday. And I, along with most everyone playing on pc, will be shit out of luck then.

It’s hard to diversify at this point, when I’m too far gone, and knowing changing or adding services will increase the complexity of using it all and keeping mental track of all the games and where they are.

Ugh.

Apple is closing three US stores, including the first to unionize

I can live with most of the other stuff, since the quality is good and they are hassle-free devices with Unix-like conventions, they last long, feel fantastic to use; Despite the price, despite the ring-kissing of Trump, despite being a mega corporate spreading its capitalistic cancer across the globe… all because the alternatives have been even worse.

Union busting is where I draw the line though, no matter if it’s in the sale or manufacturing or design side or whatever. This is the first one I hear about, I’ve not been aware of any earlier instances, mostly because I don’t follow stuff so tightly, I am almost certain it has happened before, but now that I have it in front of my eyes I can no longer abide it in my blissful ignorance.

This marks the day they lost me as a long-term customer. Perhaps ought to have happened earlier, but for me, it happened today.

I encourage others to consider the same.

Not really sure what I’ll do after these current devices die on me, but now it’s clear to me it can’t be apple. Google’s been dead to me a long time, same for Sony, Samsung, most other big players.

I guess we’ll see what the landscape is like in 5 years.

Fuck this. Fuck apple. Fuck me.

‘A critical moment’: UN warns world will miss climate targets unless fossil fuels phased out

I think we’ve already demonstrated our willingness to change, which is to say, we’ve already demonstrated how unwilling we are, as a whole, to change.

Isn’t much else to it. We will act too late, too little, and we will have some extremely hard times to endure at some point.

My only regret is that I will have brought children to this world to eat the consequences… 😩

A federal judge has gone to great lengths to make clear Trump really did rape E. Jean Carroll

Reply in thread

I think you are (intentionally?) confusing the large gap and missing the nuance between raping, potentially even worse things as we’ve recently got more proof of, and acting goofy and awkward with greetings or whatever. Both can be described inappropriate, sure, but you have to realize there’s a long way between rape, pedophilia, and awkward greetings with kisses to forehead or whatever.

Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?

Reply in thread

Commenting in Reddit felt very claustrophobic in a way. And saturated. Kind of sad, also, if you were some days late to some nice topic, and get buried under thousands and thousands of comments made prior yours, and have zero interactions at that point from anyone, even if you asked a very relevant question or whatever.

But I suspect Lemmy will get to that point too. Right now, though, it’s light enough to actually warrant wasting energy writing anything as a response to anything.

Another one worth a shot is Memmy, which I’ve settled of personally, as a prior Apollo user.

I’d describe it as being halfway the two, but to me, it just feels best to use.

As far as these beta apps go, I’m pretty surprised it’s this smooth to explore and use Lemmy today!

For mastodon, I just found an incredible FOSS app for iOS too; Ice Cubes. It’s mind blowing, really, how far fediverse has got in these past years since I last actively used it!

Huh. This has to be the worst promo site I’ve ever read. Whatever you described here does not seem to be reflected on that notion page.

You are very clearly selling something, so obviously this is a bad post to begin with, but in an attempt to make fun of the substance itself, I found none that is coherent. Can’t even joke about this, it’s so goofy.

Edit: I mean come on, what is this even

Lead Lemmy developer [email protected] Appears to Have Had Their Account Compromised After Moderation Actions Raise Serious Concerns

Reply in thread

Just jumping in to boost this message, posting your own videos is advertising your channel, probably fine if one and done, but consistently I’d consider it advertising or spamming too. Even if not own videos, just persistently posting videos is bad etiquette and I can see how that’d be construed as spamming too.

This op is cringe either way. “This moderator’s account has been compromised! No other way to explain them enforcing the instance rule 4 after consistently spamming the communities with my videos!”… Jesus christ.

Can't play an EA game via geforce now due to quitting a couple of times in one day

Reply in thread

Yup, this is likely the exact reason this happens. Oversight on their part. I contacted support and they told me they’d forward this further up The chain, I think this isn’t intended behavior for that safeguard lock, but rather stop account sharing or something like that.

Just need to check if running on gfn system and not playing an online game (which could have some problems with system hopping for bans or something maybe? Doesn’t seem likely but at least there’s a vector for malicious use, unlike in single player games), and if both are true, just skip the check.

We’ll see. I just got informed it’s a full 24h lock, and it’s set on the launcher servers somehow, which is not accessible on the account data. It’s launcher data, which means the customer support reps can’t do anything about it 😅

Just great stuff, EA never disappoints.
