Promting to copy is art...I swear.

Yeah with the images now you can just ask a computer to make any image so I feel like the novelty's gone, so why not just try to draw it yourself?

Even an amateur sketch sparks more joy, more connection, and tells me more about your passion than the most detailed most smoothest most super duper HDR style generated image.

In fact I would literally prefer a blank box with some plain alt text describing the image you would have generated. That way I can at least see what you the person were trying to communicate rather than what was statistically inserted based on association, temperature, and whatever advertising partners won the automated micro-bid for placement in the image.

What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?

I firmly believe that there are real artists trying to say things and tell cool stories in these companies, and real shit does somehow sneak out on occasion (see Andor, perfectly imperfect jewel), but the utter financialization and commoditization of media means there's so many filters a work has to push through before it's allowed to survive. Like mass marketability etc — stuff that non artists make up to justify their salary.

PS not hating on non-artists (kind of don't believe the category exists, but as a role) it's just that when the share of people expecting to get paid from a work is mostly admin, marketing, logistics, rather than the people actually making the thing, incentives and culture get warped.

Reddit fades from ChatGPT citations

Remember when we used to write "redit" after a web search to ensure we got some authentic conversation related to the query?

The fediverse will never have SEO like that, but I am gradually finding increasingly niche topics discussed here, or else I start a discussion with them.

Yah it's like "person who doesn't care about others has said repeatedly they don't care about others, insults every decent thing you like, lies, rapes, undermines economic and ecological stability for personal gain, and 'jokes' about taking away your right to vote" and then they happen to do one nice thing and you still don't like them? Gosh I wonder why, like what would it take, maybe two nice things?

They don't get it

Capitalism is an unrealistic death cult.

I think the seeds were there long before the industrial revolution, like for example when you've got large segments of the population devoted to being agricultural workers on land they don't own.

But obviously yeah I don't think you can get capitalism of the form and scale as we recognize it today without the industrial revolution and then the financialization of most lifeways available to workers
