I've been using Kindle Paperwhite since 2013. The hardware is fantastic, but their locked down nature is less than amazing. I'm currently looking at options for upgrading and moving away from the kindle ecosystem, and the the Kobo Clara BW is a compelling option. Or maybe wait and see if a new BW Libra comes out.

They still use them today in some supermarkets, now they use them to send packets of cigarettes through the store.

For backpacking it's a matter of having to carry it all with you. Most people will likely bring a phone anyway for safety, so no need to carry a heavy camera on top. Also it's another thing to keep charged.

I'm glad I started converting all my amazon books long ago. When I finally got a Kobo last month, there were no issues since the work was done.

Interesting! I just recently upgraded my old 6" Kindle to a 7" Kobo. I'm very happy about it, and the extra size is nice. If a more portable reader that doesn't compromise on screen size exists when I'm ready to upgrade next I'm all for it

By the time i got my current pc I hadn't booted into windows for several months in the old one, so it never got installed on this one.

I don't remember actually honestly believing it at any point. It was more like a fun thing in my family, and I was even Santa Claus myself for my little brother when I wasn't that old.
