You can absolutely want peace and even agree to concessions to Russia to reach a sustainable peace, but this point is absolutely valid: there must be security guarantees, otherwise Putin will just use the armistice to rebuild its strength and attack again.

Get bent, Brenda
If that had happened in Germany, Brenda would have provably committed an administrative offence and should stop unless they want to go to jail:
§ 4 Rest breaks
Work shall be interrupted by predetermined rest breaks of at least 30 minutes for working hours of more than six to nine hours and 45 minutes for working hours of more than nine hours in total. The rest breaks referred to in sentence 1 may be divided into periods of at least 15 minutes each. Employees may not be employed for more than six consecutive hours without a rest break.
§ 22 Penalty provisions
(1) An employer commits an administrative offence if they intentionally or negligently
- contrary to § 4, do not grant rest breaks, do not grant them for the prescribed minimum duration or do not grant them in a timely manner
(2) In the cases referred to in paragraph 1, nos. 1 to 7, 9 and 10, the administrative offence may be punished with a fine of up to thirty thousand euros [...].
§ 23 Penal provisions
(1) Any person who commits one of the acts specified in Section 22(1) Nos. 1 to 3, 5 to 7
- intentionally and thereby endangers the health or working capacity of an employee, or
- persistently repeats, shall be punished with imprisonment for up to one year or a fine.

Largest party by electoral district in the German federal election

Unlikely, they're happy with their result.
It's however possible that the conservatives will run the Austrian playbook. Talks with the social democrats fail, "we have a responsibility to Germany to form a government", then make a coalition with the AfD (Nazis).
Back to your original question: the BSW will likely contest the elections, as they have missed the 5% threshold by only ~14k votes and there are evident irregularities. For example, many Germans living abroad, for example those living in the US, had almost no chance to cast their vote.

PC Gamer: "I'm brave enough to say it: Linux is good now, and if you want to feel like you actually own your PC, make 2026 the year of Linux on (your) desktop"
Reply in thread
Everyone acts like it's all about gaming, but people want to use Lightroom, Photoshop, Excel, their banking and tax software etc. They don't want the alternatives because they're not integrated well, they can't access their Dropbox/Apple Cloud/whatever and they gave Linux their Google password already, why does it need it again for that mail software that has some stupid bird name instead of "mail".

I was about to ask, what's with the privacy policy of that site? How can a website that focuses on an oppressed minority be so shitty about their personal data?
I'm not telling your community what to do, but this seems very unsafe und unwise to use.

"This is so dangerous!", laments the woman driving directly into a Critical Mass bike ride
Reply in thread
The organizers will inform the city that a critical mass protest is taking place, the city will inform the police and they will cordon off the route. If there are enough people talking part in the protest, the public order authorities will have no other choice - thus the name critical mass. The right to protest takes precedence over the right to drive this specific route.

Fuming Florida driver goes off-road to overtake cyclists
Reply in thread
I don't think it's a competitive race. The cars don't have spare bikes, the cyclists don't have bib numbers, there don't appear to be teams, some cyclists seem to have an imperfect setup and mixed sex races are uncommon. I also don't see cars ahead of the peloton. I think it might be more of an organised leisure trip, which would explain why the road wasn't closed.

Ceiling fan for heating and the Mrs.
Look, she has a point too. Let's say your skin has a temperature of 30°C and the moving air has a temperature of 21°C. As the air moves past the skin, heat is being exchanged more efficiently from skin to air, cooling the skin.
You have a point as well, the room is heating up more efficiently for basically the same reason.
I suggest to turn on the ceiling fans while heating up the room for like half an hour or however long it takes to reach ± 1°C of the desired room temperature, and to turn it off afterwards.

I think you're complaining that your lemmy client displays the alt text over the image. Mine does that with videos, which I also find annoying, but not with images. In any case, it is a client issue, so you could ask your developer nicely for an option to disable this behaviour (or look in the settings if it's already possible)
