Radishes. First Vegetables of Summer

First vegetables off of our farm this year are radishes. Also green beans but I didn't get a picture of them. These are red radishes planted around 45 days ago.

In the photo I am preparing to mash the radishes. Then I cook sausage and wilt the greens into that while it cooks. Then I mixed the greens and sausage with the mashed turnips. It was very good if one likes a strong but less bitter mustard green flavor.

Why is mercury a liquid?

"Mercury’s liquid state results almost entirely from relativistic effects, said Peter Schwerdtfeger, a quantum physicist at Massey University in New Zealand. Toward the bottom of the periodic table, the electrons in the heaviest elements experience such strong attraction to the atomic nucleus that they move close to the speed of light. At this point, they no longer obey the laws of classical physics, and the resulting quantum phenomena — known as relativistic effects — lead to surprising physical properties. How these manifest depends on the element..."

Curtains

Putting up new curtains,
other windows intrude.
As though it is that first winter in Cambridge
when you and I had just moved in.
Now cold borscht alone in a bare kitchen.

What does it mean if I say this years later?

Listen, last night
I am on a crying jag
with my landlord, Mr. Tempesta.
I sneaked in two cats.
He screams, "No pets! No pets!"
I become my Aunt Virginia,
proud but weak in the head.
I remember Anna Magnani.
I throw a few books. I shout.
He wipes his eyes and opens his hands.
OK OK keep the dirty animals
but no nails in the walls.
We cry together.
I am so nervous, he says.

I want to dig you up and say, look,
it's like the time, remember,
when I ran into our living room naked
to get rid of that fire inspector.

See what you miss by being dead?

Good Medicine

At 48, Sheila Heti found herself thinking she didn’t need to live much longer—not because she was in despair, but because she had a strange sense that life, for her, had plateaued. She was sure that her future would simply be repetitive of her past. To mull this feeling, she took part in a series of psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions using ketamine, DMT, MDMA, and LSD, reflecting deeply after each session. Does she behold God on LSD? She does, but that’s just one of the many remarkable experiences she has on these mind-altering substances.

Good controllers for couch coop?

This post had a lot really good suggestions for couch coop games on Linux and I was wondering if there are controllers people recommend or if all the third party ones are the same? I have an Xbox controller with Bluetooth I might be able to find but they are kind of pricey so I don't want to buy another unless for some reason that's the best thing. I'm open to wired and wireless I just don't want to end up with some cheap piece of shit that makes playing not fun.

Slim Down Debian Install

I've installed debian on an old laptop and am wondering if the 10 gig base system size can be slimmed down by deleting unneeded files.

I ran the commands to look for any runaway logs or other obviously large files and nothing popped out.

Is there a group of folders full of stuff I don't need or is this just the size of modern distros?

EDIT: I ended up doing a netinstall and got a 6ish gig system so I'm pretty happy with that. The netinstall image was able to detect my wifi card even though the debian live installer was not.
