Redecked a Dock Today
Redecked a dock. The pressure washing at the end was the most satisfying part. Happily there was very little rot on the 2x6 runners and none on the 4x4 posts. I think it'll look great with some of that deck repair paint glopped on!

But have you ever redocked a deck?
Is it even possible? Once you make it a dock does it stop being a dock? Maybe if the water dries up, but you refill it, you've redocked a deck.
I thought the yellow drill was a rubber duck for a moment so it'd be a duck dock redeck. Not phallic enough for other vowels.

My back porch needs work... Some of the runners must've had rot because there's pieces cut out and extra wood tacked on. Looks shoddy and boards give in from above.
I fixed some of these by patching the runners similarly to your description, affixing and then cutting out all the rot until I got back to good wood and putting wood hardener in. It can definitely be just as strong. My thought on it though is if you already have all the boards off replacing the runners is just as much work as cutting and patching. I'm a big believer in sizing things to whatever length my boards are though to try and minimize cutting (work) whenever possible.
In my case my back porch is elevated so I walked under and can see the work previously done.
I'm probably going to hire someone to do it right. Not sure if patching or replacing is required.
One of the posts needs reinforcement. Crappy concrete pour is loose.
I'd hire someone too if it was high enough to walk under. I've seen too many deck and porch fail videos online to feel comfortable doing that myself.

Too many cypress knees. Almost no space under there. I'm going to have to raise or raze the whole thing in less then ten years I'm estimating

A couple of old running gears from disused hay racks out in the grove, some welded up tubing and galvanized pipe. I built that thing 15 years ago.
That's really cool. I'm trying to be a better welder so I can do stuff like that too. Do you wheel it into the water or are the wheels for mowing under it?
I built it on the running gears to make it easy to put in and take out. Takes 5 minutes with the tractor to wheel it in and pull it out all by myself.

Can I ask how much that ran you? I have a small front porch and steps I need to do the same thing with.
$375 for the wood, fasteners and paint and a roller. To build from scratch it'd be about double that.

I put varnish on cheap pallet would stuff and it's lasted at least 2 years. It just turned a little grey
If I would have thought It'd clean up so nice I probably would have used a varnish but I was not optimistic on how it would all clean up
Just realized I've been talking about Lacquer this entire time. I like like the varnish, but I'm more concerned about Lacquer
