ICE guards are assaulting & humiliating a trans asylum seeker: “I’m afraid of dying here.”

Reply in thread

Most of the world is hostile to us. Even in its current state, parts of the US are still better to live in as a trans person than many places. Parts of Europe and Canada are less hostile, but that's about it.

She was living in New York City, which until last year was one of the best places in the world you could be for trans rights. It's still one of the best places for trans people in the US.

Don't worry

The additions are to highlight the parts of our community that are typically underrepresented, more vulnerable, and facing higher levels of discrimination (i.e. trans people, intersex people, and queer people of color).

It also helps weed out the "LGB without the T" assholes. As a trans woman, seeing just the rainbow flag flying somewhere often makes me think "is this actually a safe place, or do they hate me more than the place next door with no flag?" Usually that isn't the case, but the doubt exists, and it sucks.

Do trans people like to be noticed?

Trans woman here. If you're close with me, and I bring up something about my transition, then acknowledging that and the "that's awesome" part you're talking about is good.

If you're simply commenting on my clothes or something, unsolicited, then simply treat me as you would any other woman.

I'm privileged enough to pass as cis without really doing anything special so this doesn't come up often, but it'd feel weird, uncomfortable, or condescending, and possibly make me feel unsafe coming from a stranger. Now, if I were out wearing trans pride colors or something like that, then acknowledging that in a positive way would be welcome and cool.

Also, as others have pointed out, transsexual is a rather dated term and is generally has negative connotations. The correct term is transgender.

TLDR: Treat us as you would any other person. If you like my outfit or something, and you'd say it to a cis person wearing it then that's good. If you wouldn't say it to a cis person, you probably shouldn't say it to a trans person.

BYD Trolling

The worst thing is GM has a decent competitor (a little bit pricier, but not terrible) in the Bolt, but they are not producing many of them with their new release, and are instead refocusing on larger, worse EVs.

At Davos, NVIDIA, Microsoft CEOs deny AI bubble

Reply in thread

Well nVidia just sells the hardware to the AI companies, so even if the bubble pops, they won't go bankrupt. They will stop making such obscene amounts of money, but they're one (also the largest) of the 3 major GPU vendors. Personal computing still would buy from them, as would non-AI datacenters. He wants to keep the bubble going for as long as possible to boost their profits for as long as he can, but as long as people need graphical rendering and parallel compute power, I don't think nVidia is going anywhere.

Think of them as the guy selling prospectors their tools. They hype everything up and jack up their prices for picks and shovels. When the prospectors don't find any gold to make their investment back, the shovel guy just goes back to selling shovels at normal rates and prices. Sure, he's not making as much profit, but he's still solidly in business.

  1. A minor attempted to flirt with them, they literally ran away
  2. You can't be charged with a crime if you do nothing wrong because you physically ran away and are faster than said minor
  3. Running away was the correct thing to do
  4. They were terrified (and sweaty) to the point where they were not capable of communicating coherently, and thus were not able to inform the minor that healthy adults would not be interested in their advances

Does that help explain it?

Some Weird Things Are Happening And The Grid May Never Be The Same

"Optimal" in what way? On an average day, I use ~10-15% of my max charge, with a max range of ~200 miles, +/- a bit depending on outside temperatures. I actually have the "hilltop reserve" feature turned on so I have regen brakes available always, which stops charging at 87%.

Most people do not need their full charge capacity, it's just nice to have for the occasional road trip. With improved charging networks, ~100 mile range would he plenty for the vast majority of people for the vast majority of days.

I'm hoping that Fluxer will be an easier option for my friends once the mobile apps are a bit more polished. I tried to get them to Matrix, but the experience just wasn't quite smooth enough.
