huh, I contributed hundreds of hand made GIFs to tenor when I was big into Twitch, yet again the hard work of people gets eaten up by a company and closed off. Fuck you Google/Alphabet, I hope your AI eats your fucking lunch

Parent companies shouldn't be a thing. If a company buys another company, it should be fully integrated, and all branding should be legally required to reflect the new ownership.

I think stopping there is best. We don't need companies buying other companies, full stop.

I don't even think there should be a stock market, or companies not owned by the employees. Hell, I might have enough of these to get a bedtime Arya Stark chant going.

Someone should find or make a website with a graphic showcase of corporations links between them.

same....I am full of regret and it's far too late to do anything about it....

Kinda insane how much of the internet is owned by Google. Rockefeller is crying in his grave that his SO got hacked up

This news has been around for months yet I still cannot understand why they are doing this. They can't actually be thinking that anybody would want to go to tenor.com and look at gifs right???

It's like if my ISP decided I needed to drive to a local office in town to pick up my data packets. WTF!?

Discord already moved to using Klipy since early Spring or so. It's ok, I guess.

Has it? My Discord channel shows me a Tenor gif I posted just yesterday that I shared using the native search.

If they are using Klipy, it must be a hybrid solution at the moment.

When I hit the Gif button on Discord it says “search Klipy”. It has for about 4 months now.

It does for me now as well. But I've got gifs shared in my channel on 6/28 and 6/29 with the URL still hosted on Tenor, which I know came from the built-in gif browser, so it may not have been applied to all clients at the same time. Could have been in an A/B state, or maybe different app versions between OS types.

Weird, you’d think they would keep it running just for data harvesting

I have never seen a catbox.moe gif that worked.

Annoyingly, its on one of the most common pihole/adblocker lists, and I could never find a legitimate reason for why it is.

Anonymous file uploaders are pretty commonly abused to distribute malware so considering how popular catbox is that's probably how it got on there.

The thing is, there are much worse services, that serve malware ads, that aren't on the same lists.

Every time i see “chud” I think: Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers C.H.U.D

People who keep all their gifs and memes in a single folder win again.

Is it a bad sign that i have never heard of if before?

5

No, most people haven't heard of it, but you've probably used it because it used to be integrated into a lot of apps that everyone has heard of.

Weirdly enough, although the API was supposedly cancelled, if you have an old client it still works fine. Currently writing this as of 2026-07-02T04:34:00Z.

Discord's gif picker doesn't go directly to Tenor, it passes through their internal CDN, so it may be some caching. But it's still funny that it works.

Where are you hanging out that has you so bitter over gifs? Find a better community or friends.

3

On a related note why are you so bitter over people being annoyed by the enshittification of yet another small source of joy in this hell world?

Is this that sour grapes thing? Or do you have an issue with people using reaction gifs to convey a concept that's either too convoluted or requires too much context to type out?

For example, this entire comment could have just been;

Teams uses Tenor. It’s how I send gifs at work. RIP to me annoying my coworkers with bongo cat.

Good riddance. I hate convos that are just a long list of useless gifs rather than actual comprehensible text messages. I don't want giant images with half my screen moving to accompany each of your three-word texts.
Those are overused, overstimulating, and make conversations dumb.

How dare anyone enjoy being silly. Too much frivolity going on here! Button it up and move along! Chop chop!
