Avatar is cursed for remakes like Fantastic Four

I like that in the netflix version they added scenes that weren't in the original. My favorite is the scene of Lu Ten's funeral. Iroh is just sitting there silent but you can see on his face that is he is broken inside but everyone comes up to him and congratulates him that his son died a hero. No one says it but for me it felt like in the fire nation culture you're not allowed to mourn the death of those who died in battle, which is a crazy concepts but fits with the Fire Nations fascist ideology.

I couldn't find the whole scene, but here is the last part of it (https://yewtu.be/watch?v=hwPn2gJ1B_U). For context, Zuko has gone up to Iroh and said that Lu Ten's death is great honor. But when he was about to leave he comes back and thats when the above video starts.

These scenes add so much to the character of Iroh, Zuko, Lu Ten (whose character we did know anything about in the original) and to war-time Fire Nation culture. It's amazing!

Amon was an idiot.

I thought the twist of Amon being a bender really undercuts that seasons story arc. The Equalists were asking a questions that makes sense in their world, benders are ridiculously more powerful than non-benders and in their world's history (at least in Aang's time) held almost all significant offices. The equalists had a fair question about how to even the play fielding for all citizens. But this question isnt answered or considered, Amon comes out at as a bender and the equalist movement is forgotten about

I definitely overthink before sleep, I'm relatively calm in the other places you listed. I never thought about where/when I overthink before, thanks for giving me a new way of framing overthinking, I will try my best not to overthink it

Why don’t more people start profit-sharing companies or co-ops?

I think a lot of people don't know what co-ops are. I have been pretty left leaning my whole life and I only found out co-ops in my late 20s and the majority of people I talked to in real life have no idea what coops are. And from that few that do know, many dont know how big cooperatives can be.

For the uninitiated, I am sharing the [International Cooperative Alliances definition of coops here: https://ica.coop/en/cooperatives/what-is-a-cooperative

and the list of largest coops in 2023 here: https://ica.coop/en/media/library/research-and-reviews-world-cooperative-monitor/world-cooperative-monitor-2023

Revenge of the six

Reply in thread

Kendrick performed Not like Us five times during his Juneteenth concert. The joke here is Drake writing his lyrics saying that he didn't perform it a sixth time bc he is afraid of "the six" which is term that Drake often uses to refer to his hometown, Toronto.

Math question: how do we get an irrational number pi from the ratio of circumference and the diameter of a circle?

Reply in thread

Thanks for the answer. I'm confident you're correct but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around drawing a line with an irrational length. If we did draw a right angled triangle with two sides equal to 1cm and we measured the hypotenuse physically with a ruler, how would we measure a never ending number? How would we able to keep measuring as the numbers after the decimal point keep going forever but the physical line itself is finite?
