At this point, we should also legalize becoming a President if you're not born in the USA.

Just 27 months for killing a cyclist and lying to the authorities.

Yes, exactly, it's truly fucked up. We should put people in prison for traffic violations, because when you drive a vehicle and you don't follow the rules you risk killing people.
Looking at your phone while driving? Going faster than the speed limit? You may kill somebody.

Jokes aside, I've read that straws help protect teeth while drinking acid or sweet sodas, because you get less soda on your teeth (duh)

Oh, referring to you?

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think the bad aiming was an inside job. No way somebody can get so close to kill a President with modern day security.

If they shut their big system down, it’s gone.
Not only that, but if they enshittify (and they do it) there's nothing you can do. Lemmy, by definition, cannot enshittify.

Italy has been "blocking" sites by forcing DNS providers to remove them for ages.
And that's lucky, I'd say, because it's super easy to circumvent.

Yeah the crazy thing is that most people were using ADSL connections directly from their computer, without a router.
Raw dogging the internet with no firewall, that was wild.

LibreOffice Hits 9.4 Million Downloads in Just Eight Weeks

Yes, LibreOffice uses its own custom rendering engine and that's not the most performant...
But you have to understand that before LibreOffice there was OpenOffice.org, which itself comes from an old German application called StarOffice.
And oh boy, StarOffice! It was quite peculiar: it used to render its own desktop environment that took over Windows Explorer, with its own Start menu!
So, let's all remember that LibreOffice still has that legacy to carry on.

Airbnb hosts are furious they can no longer make guests do their chores

Exactly. Finally some sane choices by Airbnb.
But I wonder what's the real reason, because no company is so nice towards final customers. Maybe Airbnb saw a decrease on booking on their platform because people are rightly fed up with that bullshit and they just prefer hotels.

And that pic is with the classic (Office 97-style) interface.
You can also switch to a more modern style, called "Notebook bar", which is similar to the Ribbon interface you can find on Office 2007+.
(Honestly? In my opinion, the classic interface is the best)

It depends. Some hotels have shareable rooms with doors between them that they can open if a big group is renting contiguous rooms. That's always been nice in my experience.
