I'm going to get so celebratory drunk when this piece of shit dies.

I was totally exhonorated

No you were not

You only say that because juries found him liable for sexual assault and fraud.

Oh, referring to you?

That is wholly inadequate for an image full of text.
Ain't no way someone unable to read the image is going to get the whole thing.
Search engines won't find anything by the "text" either.

Don't cheat accessibility.
Do the text alternative properly.

It's a funny quip but of course the person trying to shoot the president was referring to the president in his manifesto about trying to shoot the president

Big if true

He owes Jean E Caroll millions of dollars anytime he says he didn't rape her. Which he did

In New York, there is a legal difference between rape and sexual abuse. It is my (admittedly limited) understanding that digital penetration counts as sexual abuse in New York.

So, according to the legal definition in NY and the idea that in the US people are innocent until proven guilty, maybe Trump can make the general claim "I'm not a rapist" without it counting as defamation. Maybe.

But in colloquial terms, we can absolutely consider this to be a lie. Donald Trump is an adjudicated rapist; a jury determined that, a minimum of one time in his life, he physically forced sexual contact on a woman who did not consent. (And based on what we know about abusers in general and this man in particular, my money is on this not being the only time in his life that he sexually assaulted someone.)

20

It is an objective lie established as a matter of legal fact during the lawsuit. He's a rapist no ambiguity.

11

If a judge has ruled he must pay Jean E Caroll millions of dollars anytime he says he didn't rape her, it stands to reason that “I am not a rapist” is a claim that he didn’t rape her.

You're always allowed to do it (well, "allowed") what's the hold up bucko?

Whatever excuse you give, I guarantee if we solved that you could find a few more excuses tucked away. Just like everyone else.

I'm British, but yeah. I could probably manage an attempt if I didn't care about my kid. I guess that's the nice thing about being from earlier generations, they mostly didn't.

It can't possibly be this hard to kill a president

Unfortunately, it is.

What's the holdup?

Ridiculous amounts of security precautions/pissing away government resources.

That and bad aiming, I guess 🤷🏻

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think the bad aiming was an inside job. No way somebody can get so close to kill a President with modern day security.

John Oliver just did a story on just how overworked, poorly staffed, poorly disciplined and poorly paid the secret service is. It's a wonder there haven't been more close calls for the last several decades.

Most people don’t want to deal with the consequences. The damage to their families, the possibility of being killed themselves either by the cops or death penalty, the lies about them the press and political opponents would make up about them, everyone has some skeletons they wouldn’t want revealed, and the fact they’d be silenced and have no way to make a real case for why they did what they did. At best a lifetime in prison because, even if you're right, they’re gonna make an example of you because we can’t just have people killing presidents, y’know. I think also that they might realize that it’s probably cutting a head off the Hydra, some other PoS would just step up and continue the shitshow.

IOW you’d have to have someone with nothing to lose and the willingness to sacrifice themselves for such a deed, and the skills to pull it off.

Generally the kind of person willing to kill a president isn’t going to be sane, and if someone is sane and has the same idea they understand the price and aren’t going to want to do it. That, and things aren’t dire enough for a sane person to make the leap to do such a thing.

Americans will happily allow armed, masked men to violently kidnap people off the street in broad daylight and haven't fired a single shot. I wouldn't expect many of us to make the needed sacrifice.

3

You can't really be saying "haven't fired a single shot" in response to a thread on multiple failed assassination attempts.

Also about the only context I can think of where people are saying Americans don't have enough gun violence.

It’s been 63 years since the last presidential assassination, it’s not exactly a walk in the park to pull off

I've wondered if he wasn't but figured there'd be more drop.
