German poll: Majority for return to nuclear energy
Reply in thread
Also the time it would take to build new power plants and get them to run would be something lile 20-25 years. We dont have that much time to get a grip on climate change so it doesnt matter annyways. Either we get 100% renewables untill then or we are fucked annyways.

‘Not acceptable in a democracy’: UN expert condemns lengthy Just Stop Oil sentences
Reply in thread
No, youtube is a breeding ground for idiots when it comes to politics. Every comment and every dislike gives a video impressions so that the algorithm shows it to others. Youtube makes bank with hatret just as fox news does. You can bet that all the jzst stop oil clips will be shown to a audience that hates rhem more than people who feel indifferent about them or agree with them. Why? Because they dont comment on the videos.
These people hate what they see but still watch it and then comment on it so youtube shows them more off it.

Idle power is the only thing they are good at, but for a homeserver a used older cpu is good enough.

Battlefield 6 dev apologizes for requiring Secure Boot to power anti-cheat tools
Reply in thread
No the anti cheat is just very intrusive and does wild stuff to look at what other process3s are doing and checks system calls etc. The fact that bf6 wont run if you have the riot games anti cheat running (wich alsso is very bad) is telling. If one company cant trust that the anticheat of another company may break something when it interferes with yours is bad. Look at the crowdstrike incident.
Microsoft itself wants all this stuff gone from the kernel after crowdstrike. If your anticheat needs root acess to look at every file, process and syscall to check if you are hacking it is a desaster waiting to happen. Look at all the anti virus programs that were hijaacked to get root acess before.

With embedded stuff its still done like that. And if you go from the arduino functionss to writing the registers directly its a hell of a lot faster.

These things don't seem to last very long, do they?
Reply in thread
No absolutly not, dells docking stations are the worst crap ever. We exclusivly have dell at work and these things are so super unreliable. Every time they do a software update something breaks. I had 3 seperate stations that stopped charging randomly and lost the video signal on random. My colleges dock started its fan up on 100 for no reason sometimes after one specific softeware update but no new version fixed that.
The one in your picture is fine, it cant charge and the usbc cable is a little short but it works for now. But id rather buy any other product than something from dell.

Seriusly, if you cant filter information or you are not able to react to your surroundings please dont drive. Half a second of reaction time more is a lot when you are driving a 2 ton car with 100kmh around... that si rhe reason drunk driving is not allowed or driving while high...

Cannonicly joan lambert the navigator is trans, but i dont think that annyone knows this since it is only shown through a medical file that was in some scene. I dont get why this has annything to do with the fact that people apperently ddont think rippley was a female lead since again most people dont know that about lambert.

UK supermarkets to start selling plug-in solar panels for £500. But there’s a catch
Reply in thread
People dont get the problem, with a plug in solar panel you can have something behind a fuse draw more current than what the fuse sees. If your panel provides 800w and you have other appliences in the same circuit behind the fuse that pull high current they can pull nearly the max of your fuse through the fuse and all the current of your solar panel which would be more than the wiring can tolerate without the fuse blowing. That doesnt take into account that that the wiring could not even be capable of handling max current of your fuse as others here pointed out with shitty wiring that has been done in old houses where at some point someone just changed a fuse without really updating the cables in the wall.
My grandpas house in france had so shitty wiring that i would have never trusted it to be safe. Flat cable with broken isolation and no protective earth and a horrendus subpanel.

Learning to solder electronics
A hot air station is nice but the biggest help with small electronics is magnification, your hands will be a lot steadier once you see better. I think the control loop in our brain can handle small movement a lot better once the feedback is bigger. Once i see the tip of the iron under the microscope i can solder miniature smd stuff without shaking at all.
Good tweezers are a must. And a iron with intigrated heaters in the tip like the cheap t12 stations from ebay works a lot better than the stations with tips and heater separated. A nice project is this:
https://github.com/wagiminator/ATmega-Soldering-Station
You can get t12 handles and tips for cheap on aliexpress.
Also the cheap hot air stations are fine but i would check the temps with a thermocouple when setting it up the first time they may not be calibrated correctly.
Get lead solder, if you wash your hands and dont eat the solder its fine, it will flow better and doesnt need the high temps of unleaded solder.
Flux also is really important, you can mix your own with rosin and ethanol for cheap but you can only clean it with ethanol so be aware that its very sticky. If you have questions please ask, its always nice if people learn to repair stuff :)

I dont think you understand the difference between a lossless file format/encoding algorithm and "losless" recording/storing of signals. If anyone ever speaks of a lossless encoding algorith theyy mean that avter encoding and decoding the input and output will be the same e.g nithing was lost. Why would the recording have annything to do with the lossyness of the encoding algorithm? If the music was made digitally there would be no loss in any sense since the output of your daw or midi file etc is already digital. Btw in general you just cant record any arbitrary analog signal but you can record a lot of it. You will also never in no media be able to store the exact signal. There is always noise always some variation. Even if you store your signal analog there is only so much variance of the magnetic field in a tape and only so many atoms of height difference in the groove of your vynil. The thought of lossless recording is just dumb if you think about it because you change the signal by measuring it annyway so what even is the "original" signal?

New sodium-ion battery skips mechanical cooling with 97.9% efficiency

Badly written, i suspect the cells are speecified to have about 210ah and a real test showed 218ah capacity. That would be pretty normal since you always have manufacturing tolerances. But i think in a good article they would have worded it better if thats the case since not all of these batterys will do 218ah.
